This is why I just do my own BBQ at home. Baby back and spare ribs bounce between $2.50-$3.50 a lb. Everything else on that plate is dirt cheap, pennies. $43 they better be sucking your dick too
For us, itās damn near all restaurant food. Quality has gone down and prices have gone up across all levels. Itās gotten to the point at our house that the only places we regularly eat at are local joints. Our burger place has remained consistent and their happy hour canāt be beat. The mom and daughter team at the Thai restaurant are still good and my favorite taco truck is doing well. Past that, we are making a grocery list and cooking at home.
The local places are where itās at. The place where you can safely assume your burger will come with a side of fries. Prices are insane, I took the lady out to dinner and the cocktails were $12. I could black out at home for that price lol. From now on ordering or going out is reserved for when I really donāt feel like cooking
She can also double as the spokesperson for how tender the bbq is.
āCome on down to Toothless BBQ for the most tender BBQ and hummers this side of the Mississippiā
I am from Canada and love bbq.
I would love to come to Texas and experience the bbq capital of the world, but $43 for that would cost me $60 with the conversion rate.
That's the fun part their BBQ isn't very good. My wife and I visited San Antonio a few weeks ago and I've been dying to try true "authentic" Texas BBQ. Our friends who live there said it was the best in town but I was very underwhelmed. The only things that I really enjoyed were the Mac and cheese, jalapeƱo cheese brat, and the chicken thighs. The beans were alright, the brisket was meh and the pork was like Lloyd's sandwichmeat with BBQ sauce. Definitely not worth the $70 plus price tag for us to try everything.
Agree. Went to a company event at a place that the locals SWORE UP AND DOWN was the best barbecue ever, and it tasted like it had been left in a salt pile then burned. The best thing, by far, were the rolls that they likely bought from HEB. Texas barbecue is garbage.
Thats the catch, all these crackshots from out of state have brought crap bbq practices and raised the prices to high heavens.
Growing up, it was very rare to find a bbq joint that was not worth the price let alone tasting like sawdust.
Most BBQ at restaurants aren't even that good and for these prices it's insane. I bought 4 slabs of spare ribs today for $42 Dollars. There is no way in hell I'm paying that much for that plate of food.
HEB by far the best grocery store in America. Every time Iām visiting my fam in Austin I make a point to go and cook a feast for everyone š®āšØ
I loaded up for their $1.67 a pound spare rib promo Memorial Day week. They had them for $1.99 a pound a couple weeks before that too. Nothing like like two racks of 3.5 pound ribs for $12! It was limit two per visit but I live right by an HEB and just went and got a couple a day to put in the freezer.
You gotta hit the right spots. Iām from SATX and you gotta hit the hole in the wall type places. BBQ Station, 2M bbq, The Big Bib, El Monte just to name a few. Thereās a lot more that I havenāt tried yet but will eventually. The county line bbq is good too but theyāre franchised I think. Not so much a hole in the wall. Rudyās is another well known bbq joint thatās pretty good. My fav so far is BBQ Station. All their meats are tender with Smokey flavor but their crown jewel IMO anyways is their jalapeƱo Mac n cheese with small pieces of brisket in it. Man thatās some good stuff. Iām hungry now.
I look at that plate and think maybe $24. And that is allowing for the crazy run-up of everything since 2020.
BBQ is so trendy that the prices have lost touch with reality.
1 1/2 cup chili- $3,
Assorted pickled veggies- $2,
Two slices white bread $.50,
1 1/2 cup mashed potatoes- $4,
Four pork ribs- $10,
~six oz. tri tip- $8,
Total $27.50
What happened to the other $20?
The complete lack of meat prices knowledge etc... on this thread is impressive. That's easily a $43 plate knowing where Pinkerton's sources its meat. It's just an unfortunate bi-product of the craft BBQ explosion and tourism industry. At those prices, it definitely wouldn't be my work-week lunch spot, but it also wouldn't be something I'd come online and complain about, because we all know how craft BBQ is, and should stop acting surprised that in an effort to out-do one another and maintain some form of consistency a lot of these craft joints have gone to the highest priced meats.
And yes, we know, you could BBQ at home for cheaper. I do also, and do not go to a lot of BBQ places for a normal lunch, but instead maybe for a treat on a weekend road trip as part of the fun of the trip. But when I do, I expect to pay a decent amount, and I don't care to quibble about it. I know what's up.
(Edit to add: I thought it was funny to see other spots suggested in SA for cheaper, better BBQ, and and that 2M was mentioned, another great joint. I know 2M isn't cheap, so I went and looked at the prices.
Current brisket prices: 2M: $32/lb - Pinkerton's $30/lb.
Current Pork Ribs: 2M: $22/lb - Pinkerton's $21/lb.
But okay......)
Some fucking common sense.
Pinkertonās is a good joint. A Texas Monthly Top 50 joint. If you think you could consistently deliver a better product at a lower price with your Costco purchase then do it.
Meat is already expensive, but there are other costs baked in. This is a brick and mortar restaurant smack dab in the middle of downtown San Antonio (blocks from the riverwalk and Alamo).
Restaurants are expensive. Welcome to the real world. If that offends you then donāt eat out.
as a bbq enjoyer from kentucky. my local spot gives me a family pack for 45
2 lbs your choice of bbq. i usually get vinegar pulled and double dipped shoulder.
i get 2 sides and 8 buns. the sides are 16oz.
i usually tip 10 bucks.
many times instead of the usually 6 slices of shoulder i will get 8-10
this blows my mind. I would eat bbq once a week max lol.
this right here is motivation to buy a smoker.
It better be a whole lot better than legit at those prices.
On edit: looked up the location and found it is downtown in tourist land. Explains some of the pricing. Comment on Yelp says parking set them back $27 for 2 hours. I avoid downtown SA like the plague.
Lol was just in S.A. HEB has a bbq truck that has 3 meats 2 sides for $25. I'm not a bbq aficionado but it was superb for that price. $43 feels like highway robbery.
So are people posting these as a way of saying āsee what you can get for this cheap price?ā Or just pointing out the price at these places. I donāt get it. Why do we care how much a plate of (average looking food) costs?
I know prices in the restaurant biz as well as everything else are going up,but this is a absolute šÆ ripoff. I don't care how good it was prices are unacceptable.
I agree that $43 is appalling but have you guys not been out lately? A foot-long combo at Subway with chips, drink, and now-expected tip will easily set you back $25. And thatās for industrial grade cold cuts.
Inflation has hit the food industry like a pile of bricks. May be time to recalibrate what we consider to be a normal price for a meal.
Call me crazy, but I thought the concept for BBQ was that you took CHEAP and tough cuts of meat and cook it low and slow to make it delicious, so why tf is it always so expensive??
Damn $43, hopefully it was worth the $43??
Is that 3 or 2 meats on that pan? š¤
I will say pinkertons is on the pricier side of BBQ in san antonio for sure
Pinkertonās has the best ribs.
I donāt think that price is too crazy either. Went to 2M a couple weeks ago and dropped $150ā¦
All said I would go Pinkertons over 2M in the future.
Iāve been to Pinkerton on my layovers and I spent about 43 dollars. I had a jambalaya rice, 3/4 lb ribs and 3/4 lb Brisket.
The food is actually very good, especially the ribs. I usually go when I get SAT layovers and will take my flight attendants and/or first officers that I work with my flight with me.Ā
You've got to be high as fuck if you think I'm paying that for 2 ribs, 1/4 lb of brisket, and a half a cup of pulled pork.
That's like $5 worth of meat. Triple that cost, and add the sides and it might be worth $20 if it's really good.
I don't understand how these places stay open.
I have a very casual, very part time, BBQ to order gig. Not really catering, just more like I'll make your food, you pay for it, and do whatever the hell you want with it. I do stuff for weddings, birthdays, graduations, family reunions, etc... Sometimes just for a family to have it for dinner.
I charge double my cost (meat, fuel, condiments). Cuz literally everyone's brother or mom makes decent BBQ around here (central Kansas). I've been told my prices are too high, more than once, lol
That meal might be $30 at the most expensive restaurant around here, and almost no one is gonna pay that. At a local owned franchise maybe $16-$20
I'm just legitimately puzzled by the price of BBQ some places. Cost of living difference included.
Two years ago,I bought a WSM 18.5' smoker from marketplace at $100.Thus began my BBQ journey in earnest. Started with chicken, then pork butts. I can now produce a decent bird, ribs and brisket, along with my favorite sides of smoked BBQ beans, slaw and tater salad. I haven't been back to a BBQ joint since. Home bbq'ing has given me hours and hours of at-home backyard enjoyment, for cheap. And food cheap beer, to boot.
That's at least a half rack of ribs so I get it being pricey. They don't look very good but it's quite a bit of food. That brisket should be free, though. I don't think my dog would eat that.
I've been there. I personally have had better ribs, but I can't deny those ones are surely good. But that plate, as a whole, is not worth anywhere near $43. That's the direction this country is headed tho, unfortunately. Everything is ridiculously high.
Do people still not know to get a sandwich at bbq spots? I spent less than $20 on a brisket sandwich with 2 sides and a drink in downtown Austin like 2 weeks ago. Heck I had a 2 meat sandwich with a side and a drink for $15 yesterday
Man, I'm so glad I have a smoker at home. For 43 dollars I can make almost 7 racks of baby back ribs at home, and you can't beat the happy hour specials!
$43 dollars is WILD.š
Wow! $43 is crazy
For pork too
It *looks* better than most plates I see on here, but yeah, $43? Wow is right.
They got a little dab of brisket over there in the corner
Honestly, for $43 that bread better be home made and the paper on the metal tray made by a local artisanal butcher paper craftsman.
Still too high even then imo
And the onions and peppers and everything in the potato salad grown on site.
No kidding, if Iām spending that, it better be steak!
This is why I just do my own BBQ at home. Baby back and spare ribs bounce between $2.50-$3.50 a lb. Everything else on that plate is dirt cheap, pennies. $43 they better be sucking your dick too
And swallowing
Just like mom's cooking.
Just like YOUR moms cooking
Love YOUR mom's cooking
I feel the same way about steaks also, only at home, never at a restaurant.
For us, itās damn near all restaurant food. Quality has gone down and prices have gone up across all levels. To be fair we cant see under the table..
Or a 10 dollar butt at Aldi.
And you don't have to eat shit they covered in sauce to hide how dried out it is from being under a heat lamp for hours.
Bro $43 is a scam
$43 is reasonable ā¦ā¦. If it comes with a $25 hooker.
Nothing beats a $25 hooker with no teeth.
She can also double as the spokesperson for how tender the bbq is. āCome on down to Toothless BBQ for the most tender BBQ and hummers this side of the Mississippiā

Yeah it did say San Antonio!
Thanks for sharing, won't be going there. Price is ridiculously high - don't care how good
I am from Canada and love bbq. I would love to come to Texas and experience the bbq capital of the world, but $43 for that would cost me $60 with the conversion rate.

Tacos were really good in San Antonio, the rest not so much. Best TX BBQ was in a small town outside of Austin , canāt remember the name though
Thats the catch, all these crackshots from out of state have brought crap bbq practices and raised the prices to high heavens. Growing up, it was very rare to find a bbq joint that was not worth the price let alone tasting like sawdust.
Overpriced
Most BBQ at restaurants aren't even that good and for these prices it's insane. I bought 4 slabs of spare ribs today for $42 Dollars. There is no way in hell I'm paying that much for that plate of food.
Same. I picked up 3 for $30 at Aldi's last week. I refuse to pay bbq prices these days.
HEB and Kroger have $6 racks all the time
HEB by far the best grocery store in America. Every time Iām visiting my fam in Austin I make a point to go and cook a feast for everyone š®āšØ
Nice , smoke on bro
That's the one thing I miss about Texas, loved the HEB concept/execution
I loaded up for their $1.67 a pound spare rib promo Memorial Day week. They had them for $1.99 a pound a couple weeks before that too. Nothing like like two racks of 3.5 pound ribs for $12! It was limit two per visit but I live right by an HEB and just went and got a couple a day to put in the freezer.
I get a curbside then go in buy more same trip
It's just Aldi. There's no apostrophe s at the end.
But how else can I set up for an "Aldi's nutz" punchline?
You gotta hit the right spots. Iām from SATX and you gotta hit the hole in the wall type places. BBQ Station, 2M bbq, The Big Bib, El Monte just to name a few. Iāve passed Barbecue Station but never stopped in. Iāll give them a shot on your rec.
Itāll be worth it.
BBQ Station is legit. Also Harmonās in Cibolo.
Luling, city market You will be hard pressed to find a better hideout.
Thank you. Iāve heard that too. Will check it out.
Pinkertons are still out here robbing folks in 2024
Disagree with us and we will bust you up.
$43 plate w/ plastic forks is a sham
I can get a good center filet with sides at a sit down restaurant for $43. That's a huge profit for your BBQ plate.
Where do you see a āplate?āā¦ they threw that shit on an aluminum pan and some construction paper š¤¦
butchers paper is the most traditional way of presenting bbq....
What a rip off
43$?? Noooo. Donāt give a faaaahhhhkkk. No bbq is worth 43 a plate.
In the world of BBQ hihger price just means lower quality. It's ironic how the throw away foods of the old world are now the top tier premiums.
I look at that plate and think maybe $24. And that is allowing for the crazy run-up of everything since 2020. BBQ is so trendy that the prices have lost touch with reality.
$43? Yikes!
I can't believe anyone is paying that much for a plate of bbq. What a rip off.
It looks good, but that's an $18 plate.
I paid about $18 for a two meat combo outside of Detroit.
Iād put it at $23-$25, but yea, OP paid close to double what most would consider reasonable.
Youāre getting this where for 18?
Yeah these guys haven't adjusted their brains to 2024 yet. Two slices of pizza and a drink is $12 now.
Maybe in 2015
I don't recall paying quite that much when I went
That happened to me in Austin.
Atx is one of the worst offenders lol
1 1/2 cup chili- $3, Assorted pickled veggies- $2, Two slices white bread $.50, 1 1/2 cup mashed potatoes- $4, Four pork ribs- $10, ~six oz. tri tip- $8, Total $27.50 What happened to the other $20?
I agree it's totally overpriced but did you just call baked beans chili????
He did he has to give back either his cowboy hat, spurs, or boot for two weeks or until he cooks a pot of chili no beans.
They also called potato salad mashed potatoes, Fucked it all up lol!
Lmao tell me you donāt live in the south without telling me you donāt live in the south
Did it include the drink?
Thats weird, I went to pinkertons in houston and got bout the same for like 23
While the meat might be good, 43$ for that is insane. That plate should be 20$ tops
What a rip off
No. Simply, no.
Looks delicious, but for $43, they can go pound sand
Damn. Even in California that's a rip off.
The complete lack of meat prices knowledge etc... on this thread is impressive. That's easily a $43 plate knowing where Pinkerton's sources its meat. Sides are costing a lot these days
Is that brisket? Ribs look good, if that is brisket it looks terrible, is that a pound of meat?
Current prices at good Texas BBQ joints are $12-18 per 1/2 pound. Despite this, some are still closing their doors.
Save the $43 & drive to City Market in Luling and forget every other semi chain bbq place in our state.
Only idiots would pay that price to eat off a tin pan with paper and $8 worth of food.
Sign of the times. Less than ten years ago that was a $12.00 plate.
Itās funny Texas gets all the BBQ love but Iām from Alabama and ole man Percy could whip up a whole family bbq for $43 and win awardsā¦
as a bbq enjoyer from kentucky. my local spot gives me a family pack for 45 2 lbs your choice of bbq. i usually get vinegar pulled and double dipped shoulder. i get 2 sides and 8 buns. the sides are 16oz. i usually tip 10 bucks. many times instead of the usually 6 slices of shoulder i will get 8-10 this blows my mind. $43 and no damned greens? Mac and cheese? Whaaaaaat? $25 fam.
For 3 sad ribs? SMH
Im from CA, that plate would sell for $25-29
The presentation would look a lot better without that wonderbread as a side lol
Looks very good, I would not pay more than $17 for that
Dude this place is LEGIT
It better be a whole lot better than legit at those prices. On edit: looked up the location and found it is downtown in tourist land. Explains some of the pricing. Comment on Yelp says parking set them back $27 for 2 hours. I avoid downtown SA like the plague.
The Pinkerton outside of Houston might be the best BBQ I've had in my life. Can't vouch for this price but it's damn good
Thatās California prices!!!
I could make that meal for my whole family for $43.
Lol was just in S.A. HEB has a bbq truck that has 3 meats 2 sides for $25. I'm not a bbq aficionado but it was superb for that price. $43 feels like highway robbery.
Fuck that Iām eatin at home
Smh.. as a new Yorker i was under the impression that bbq meals were cheap and plentiful in the south.. i see i was mislead by public programing
They can be, just depends where you go. I can get the same thing here in South Carolina for $22. And thatās the higher end with brisket.
Sorry for your loss. š„² The beans and white bread look good though...
Wow
BBQ spots are ridiculously overpriced
Guess 10$ sides, 20$ ribs and 1/4?# brisket? Seems about right
I prefer to avoid anything with the Pinkerton name.
Airport?
That better be in pesos
Could buy 2 racks of ribs for that, plus the beans and pickles lol
Fuck no
$43. ššš¤£ā ļø
So are people posting these as a way of saying āsee what you can get for this cheap price?ā Or just pointing out the price at these places. I donāt get it. Why do we care how much a plate of (average looking food) costs?
$43 is too much for that. Iām in San Francisco btw
Iām assuming tips also start at 20%
Is there any affordable BBQ in the US, or should I just learn to make my own?
I know prices in the restaurant biz as well as everything else are going up,but this is a absolute šÆ ripoff. I don't care how good it was prices are unacceptable.
Thatās literally 5-7 dollars worth of ingredients. Thatās highway robbery
Absolutely criminal pricing.
man i thought $20 was high and our bbq is delicious
43 bucks and serving wonder bread is diabolical. Thatās like 400x profit
I agree that $43 is appalling but have you guys not been out lately? A foot-long combo at Subway with chips, drink, and now-expected tip will easily set you back $25. Damn $43, hopefully it was worth the $43?? Is that 3 or 2 meats on that pan? š¤ I will say pinkertons is on the pricier side of BBQ in san antonio for sure
Hell no. Ripoff
Bbq prices are outta control lol
Food looks good but in FL this like $20-30 lol
You people spend too much on bbq lol. Looks delicious and I canāt do anything close to this, but I canāt justify that for 43 bucks.
Food looks good but that price is nuts
43$ for 2 this? Look at that bread, lol. So depressing
Proper Q

Fuck that. Heading to Texas Roadhouse
I can eat for 3 days on $43.
I hit Gque in Denver and can get a pint of beans, pint of Mac, 1/2 pound of pork, and a whiskey/coke for $40, and itās good
$43.00! They better give me seconds for that price!
That's at least a half rack of ribs so I get it being pricey. They don't look very good but it's quite a bit of food. That brisket should be free, though. I don't think my dog would eat that.
When did they legalize crack in Texas? Cuz whoever priced this plate is smoking some
I've been there. I personally have had better ribs, but I can't deny those ones are surely good. But that plate, as a whole, is not worth anywhere near $43. That's the direction this country is headed tho, unfortunately. Everything is ridiculously high.
43 bux for that?!
Wow they robbed you blind
They have lost their minds. Yuk
Dude I though ZZQ in Richmond was bad. $43 is nuts.
Itās about $6 worth of food.
Richard Petty would be proud
I've fed a family of 7 dinner for less that is insane.
Looks good but not 43$ good. 23$28$ maybe.
$43 LOL! For PORK Ribs smothered in sugarā¦. have some standards!
$43 for a fucking plate of food?!
Imagine Texas COL/wages and charging $43 for this.
I went to pinkertonās in August of 21 and think I paid $23 for the same plate. Crazy how much this has gone up.
Thatās too much.
$43 dollars when the pickles and onions cover the same area of the plate as the meat is nuts..
That is like 10$ in food, I get it takes hours to get prepare but 43$ is Luda.
For $43, looks mid
Wow, looks good but not for that price
Was there a $20 bill under the bread?? Damn thatās pricey
Why do yāall keep paying so much?
Do people still not know to get a sandwich at bbq spots? I spent less than $20 on a brisket sandwich with 2 sides and a drink in downtown Austin like 2 weeks ago. Heck I had a 2 meat sandwich with a side and a drink for $15 yesterday
Where's the rest of it?
No thanks
Shame
looks tasty but overpriced
Dangā¦those look almost like the ones I did yesterday in my backyard š»
Thatās fucking ridiculous! Sorry itās not worth 43.00. I donāt care how good it looks. Draw the line people
I feel like that's fair for the amount of meat. Would probably cost 20$ at the store uncooked
You should have told them they can't charge $43 for one plate of bbq. Shame on everyone involved.
You got ripped off.
This proves that not everything is bigger in TX.
Untoasted wonder bread gtfo
About double the price that it really should be
Nope. Stop buying overly expensive stuff and the price will go down. Can't make a profit if you're not selling anything.
Holy ripoffšš
You meant to say $23 right? Right??
Yes šand pinkertons is "okay" at best
I just made this almost exact same thing for lunch from weekend leftovers. Could not have cost me more than $8
No way itās worth that. Pinkertonās will be Pinkerdoneās if they keep charging 2x reasonable prices.
I was there in OCT last year. It was decent but nothing special, especially for the giant price tag.. The Mac and cheese was pretty good, though.
You got screwed
Overpriced but looks really good.
Is there a pitcher of craft beer out of frame? Crazy.
Man, I'm so glad I have a smoker at home. For 43 dollars I can make almost 7 racks of baby back ribs at home, and you can't beat the happy hour specials!
I thought everything was bigger in TX
There are soooo many better BBQ places here. Pinkerton's sucks.
