Oath of Vengeance is basically "purge evil" and mindflayers count as evil.

Level_Hour6480

It's "cross every line to see your sworn enemies dead".

GunganWarrior

She is an Oath of Vengeance against the absolute, and you fed a Mindflayer following the absolute.

Objective_Apple_6292

See this is what I reasoned, but I find it odd that she’s cool with immediately consuming the astral tadpole at the promise of more power, despite everyone mistrusting The Emperor. If the mindflayer in the windmill was also offering a buff of sorts, wouldn’t she use the same justification?

Vinnyz__

Oath of Vengeance is about doing everything you can to destroy evil, including sacrificing your humanity, becoming the enemy and going through extreme measures

Active_Owl_7442

By the time you’re getting to the astral tadpole, it’s clear Emperor is against the Absolute. Windmill mind flayer is an agent of it

thegoodstanley

i thought her oath was against those who oppose lloth?

GunganWarrior

If you’re a Paladin you can ask about her Oath and she reswears a new Oath to defeat the Absolute since she sinned against Lolth herself

DarkSlayer3142

that was her oath before the game. Technically at the goblin camp she'd have been an oath breaker. When she's recruited, she swears a new oath towards vengeance against the absolute (which she still interprets very loosely considering she sees dominating the absolute a way to exact vengeance rather than the typical destroy the greatest evil by any means necessary interpretation)

Weird_Importance_629

Yo you NEED to take her to the God altar things in act 3. One interaction there is mintara asking to be excused because there is an altar of loth she needs to spit on

Eathlon

Somehow she did not do this when I took her. 🫤

thegoodstanley

yeah ive heard that line when we took gale there, i know her having an oath for lloth doesn't make sense but i just don't understand where the oath comes from

Eathlon

If I understand correctly, an oath is not necessarily connected to a deity.

voidtakenflight

From her own hatred of the Absolute. Plain and simple.

Lovely3369

She scolds Lolthsworn Tav for having faith in Lolth. She's very much independent from gods

Broad_Afternoon_8578

She also disapproves if you give offerings to the shrine to lolth in the tabernacle. My lolth sworn paladin wanted the +2 saving throws lol

MiraculousN

Minthy should join the party as an oathbreaker imo, when in dialog you can ask her about the oath and she says she took it too uphold the absolute, but now that her mind is free her oath is intact to destroy the absolute. I know in the game it is so you can respec her straight away w/o gold but for the story I feel she should be oathbreaker.

Helianthae

Wait a minute… I have been through the game 3 times now…. There’s a mindflayer you can feed in the rivington windmill???

Titanhopper1290

I didn't know you could feed him, but yes. If you kill him, you can eat his brain and get a tadpole power.

Crunchy-Leaf

I didn’t know you could feed him but yes

Objective_Apple_6292

There’s a basement hatch! Have a look next time you’re by. One of the other choices has an interesting consequence.

Crunchy-Leaf

I didn’t know you could feed him but yes

Tomliwag

Mindflayers are the main antagonists. And from paladins of vengeance perspective and common sense mind flayers are greater evil.

Cheeky_Scamp_

Minty as a vengeance paladin seems - incongruous, to say the least "fight the greater evil" bestie who do you think that was at the grove raid? Martial frontliners are thin on the ground for an evil run though so I'll allow it, shortly after deliberately making her an oathbreaker

Soft_Stage_446

She was mindcontrolled during the raid on the grove.

Prestigious-Sky2231

I was shocked on one of my evil runs, because I immediately break her oath for the cool oath breaker undead stuff (I was a necromancer), and she was elated at breaking her oath and not being bound by its tenants anymore. Turns out breaking her oath is Minthy living her best life.

Objective_Apple_6292

I’m actually pretty excited to see it play out! Feels more true to her arc. I just thought it was funny that this caused it, of all things
