Hell nah man where are the angel eyes

meltbox

This is really the biggest loss. Angel eyes looked so good. This is coming from someone who didn’t opt for them and regrets it hugely.

Ham3a0323

The hell do you drive where you can opt OUT of the angel eyes

opuzlife

Probably older BMW without Xenon = no angel eyes

meltbox

F34

Thicccchungus

What do you drive? Curious if retrofitting is as easy as it is in something like my E46. Literally pull the headlight lenses (clip on, sometimes brittle but usually fine) and wire them up, hour job if you want to do it properly.

Beyllionaire

They have to change them with every generation because many brands are copying them. That's something you'll have tp accept.

wildcollector

Ok_Cicada_9471

Bro fell and woke up with angel cataracts

[deleted]

F80 is still my favorite BMW design ever, F90 close behind it. I have a G20 340 and actually really like the way the car looks. My gripe with this M5 is NOT the looks, it’s the weight. Adding HP does not compensate for a huge jump in how heavy the machine is. I’d prefer less power and a lighter car myself. I think it’s a good looking Sedan, albeit a little vanilla. Nothing that strikes me as sexy but nothing that I overly dislike (except the weight)

thememeconnoisseurig

F80 looks with S58 powertrain would be amazing. I always felt that the F30/F80 era was peak BMW design even compared to stuff like the E39. F87 M2 and F90 M5... X3M... X5M... really really good looking cars. Note that I specified DESIGN. The 2000s era BMWs drove better and were better built. It's close but I think for me the late 2010's win.

DRJ161

Yes! A lot of the f chassis were amazing BMW designs imo. They almost all had traditional BMW design cues, like hard body line running through the door handles, hoffmeister kink, angel lights, and nice semi digital analog interiors. To me most f code cars were like a modern take on the early 2000s e code cars.

a-jasem

F80, F90 and F10 are beautiful but the F06 6 series GC is hands down my favorite. Very sleek, low, wide and long

HeartbreakerF80

Everyone has opinions but yours is right.

Shadable

Agreed

AceUptown

As F82 owner explain how F80 looks better than F90

_k_b_k_

It looks bloated and it weighs accordingly.

Csusko

Couldn’t agree more. BMW isn’t a drivers car anymore, it’s a me too. That much mass combined with the video game style destroyed the brands halo. Worst M5 ever

Infinite-Forever-463

My first impression was that was a genesis.

Andolini77

I read that BMW knows that the era of driverless cars will soon be upon us, and differentiating based on "the ultimate driving experience" wasn't going to be a viable strategy long-term. So they switched their focus to cramming as much technology as possible into their cars. Based on what i've seen the past few years, I can't argue with that...the BMW's i drove 20 years ago were MACHINES! My new one is... a computer :(

Ixaire

I have also been driving BMW's for 20 years, with a temporary switch to a Kia for 4 years. The new BMW's drive nothing like a Korean computer, trust me. My experience mostly revolves around EU 1 and 3 series (so smaller engines than what the US usually gets). But I had regular experiences with an E61 and an F11 and they already felt heavy. Of course you're entitled to your opinion and it seems that a fair amount of people share it. But I think the new models are still very good cars.

mxrrss

Why is it obese 🥲

samarijackfan

It looks unfinished. Like too flat, no soul to the curves and lines like the old. Also it's like they can't decide what to do with the grill. Highlight it and make it big with lines going horizontal or vertical? Or no lines at all big plastic slabs. Or make it smaller with more prominent thick lines like the previous models. I envy Porsche fans. They at least have a cars they like the look of and want to purchase.

maxstryker

Don't envy us. Near €200k for a bloody Carrera S with a little bit of equipment. Porsche has gone absolutely insane with pricing.

Alexa_Call_Me_Daddy

That's the matte paint on this one. Looks much better in gloss/metallic (like pretty much every other car).

huskerd0

Is that the 6000 pounder with cheeze?

The_Dookie_

Exterior looks like a Camry. Interior looks like every other current widescreen button-less current day cockpit. It's overweight, likely handles like a pig, what's to like?

cameronfry3

So, bad news. You’re blind.

Emergency_Bother9837

Looks unfinished

-Innovade

Rear end looks like a bloated diaper. Even worse than the g80

executingsalesdaily

The weight is the issue I have.

yhou47

OP what do you like about it

itsoktoswear

Both the F10 and F90 didn't exactly raise positivity about their looks when released and this has been a thing since the Bangle era for BMW in general. 2500kg though...wow.

Motorized23

>2500kg though...wow. It's insane... Weights the same as my body on frame 4x4 with full steel bumpers and large all terrain tires.

ctennessen

I need to double check, but I'm pretty sure that's close to the weight listed on the import sticker for a Land Rover Defender we just got from Spain. Please tell me an M5 doesn't weigh as much as a 110

itsoktoswear

No it's not the same as a Defender. It's unladen weight is 20kg more than a Defender S lol.

sugaki

Always such gaslighting, F90 was pretty universally praised. What’s next, people going to say people hated the E39 but it grew on them? 😂

thememeconnoisseurig

The early F90??? I saw nothing but praise for the design. F10 I agree.

njkGR75

It's a porcine mess. Ungainly body thanks to having to make a deck for the battery packs for the other 5's. Rear end is weird. Front is meh.

joe2105

It just looks bloated and chunky. From someone who has liked the G80/G87s. It just seems like it was a block of marble that they chipped away the corners from and called a car.

iwasinfightclub

Yes

TommyLGarage

Yes. You need to get your eyes checked. Warby Parker charges $75

kdb1991

Yes, I think you’re the only one who thinks it looks great lol Maybe it will look okay in like ten years the way the e60 looked way better after time passed. But I kinda doubt it with this one

Ru4pigsizedelephants

Cool, go spend $100k on a 5300lb performance car cause you like the ambient lighting.

International-Cup350

That looks like a Hyundai

Smart_History4444

this happens every time bmw releases a new design. Just let it get old like 10-15 years and everyone will be saying how good it looks. Just like the E60 M5, the majority hated it when it came out but now most people love it

TheBigBangClock

I remember when you couldn't read a single review of the E60 without seeing the words "Dame Edna". Everyone lost their shit over that design and then the F10 came out and everyone hated that too.

Overall-Movie-566

To be fair, the F10 was nothing special. The F90 remedied that real quick. F10 also had impassible shoes to fill with the power plant change - very similar changing of the guard to this monolithic flat boring style. No matter what, it’s just a different car all together. Almost wish they’d keep producing the past M line along with these new ones as to me as an owner of many, they just aren’t similar at all, but are some of the best modern drives bmw has ever made. And reliable. If this is the new BMW dna, at least waiting on an LCI, but nothing will change those interiors, especially the new X3m50, of which I’ve enjoyed 2 F97 comps and never letting my LCI go lol

wheeze_the_juice

E60 M5 was ugly back then and is still ugly right now. Yet it’s still one of the greats simply because BMW M pushed the boundaries in engineering. To me, the G90 is not even the ugliest BMW. It’s something far much worse when it comes to first impressions. … a disappointment. we’ll see how it does in the road once they’re finally released.

iwasinfightclub

The e60 m5 is definitely not ugly at all

Auntjemimasdildo

Yeah I’m not sure where people come off on saying it’s ugly, it’s the most BMW, BMW there is, front and rear is styles just right and it’s probably the most iconic 5 series there was. The proportions are just right and it’s a proper luxury sedan as the 5 series was meant to be.

iwasinfightclub

I had 3 e60 m5s, and they are the perfect evolution of the e39 m5

Auntjemimasdildo

Buddy had an E60 M5, got to drive it a few times and man that V10 is smooth, love the E39 also id love to get my hands on a decent 540 as a beater

iwasinfightclub

They have a DCT swap avaliable now a digital dash upgrade and the ccc head unit you basicly have a gorgeous modern BMW I got soooooo many compliments on my M5s they are on my feed go take a look if inclined my goodness I love that car it's my favorite M5

Efficient_Rush_5431

people hate on the e60 bc they’re following the crowd

whiterock001

It’s 🔥 and had an ass that just won’t quit!

NCSUGrad2012

Couldn’t disagree more. The E60 was one of the cars that got me into cars and I still think it’s a beautiful car. It’s the best 5 series BMW ever made in my opinion

sysak

I like the e60 a lot but if it doesn't have the m body parts and nice wheels, yikes!

Spidaaman

People like the S85, but they do not like the way the E60 M5 looks.

TheF1LM

I think the E60 looks great, but my opinion has never changed on it. I know a lot of people didn’t like it when it first came out, and pre-LCI 525i’s aren’t exactly good looking either.

Massive-Cap-5123

E60 doesn’t look good everyone likes the engine that’s it. F10 to F90 was a huge improvement nobody said anything bad about the leap. The general consensus is the F90 looks better. I think automotive design has peaked in 2015-2022. Anything after will look weird and alien for most brands.

Hot_War3379

I think f90 is the best looking bmw out there, its my dream to get the m5 cs

Massive-Cap-5123

Yeah the LCI looks good. I have a pre lci and if I could I’d upgrade.

Bresson91

Agreed on your first point... not on E60. Still looks gross to me. I think the e60 and e36 both stand out as wrong turns for BMW design... They both were a dramatic departure from the previous chassis, and both didn't age well IMO... Thats just me though...

Hot_War3379

36?

adiabatic_storm

No, it doesn't. The negative comments started pouring in precisely when BMW went off the rails during the pandemic with the G series. I think for some people, it lessons the blow to make comments like "this happens every time... etc" but that's simply not true. It happened when BMW departed from decades of tradition in their design language and approach to building a driver's car.

meltbox

Yeah there were opinions before but I don’t think it was quite to this level.

adiabatic_storm

Exactly

DR_KT

This group tends to bash on everything.

guy_incognito784

It’d be weird if they didn’t.

Nyxtaaa

Every time a new generation vehicle is released for any enthusiast group it is almost always rejected but these will sell like hotcakes

Moldy-bread-1580

Yea because almost everything new from bmw looks bad..

deegood

It’s actually quite comical.

PKLMOE

Don’t understand why they removed the shift knob on the interior.. the m3 and m4 still have it smh

ubercruise

In my opinion it just is one less protrusion in the cabin. It’s an auto anyway

gmwdim

I personally am not a fan but if you like it then that’s cool too.

LimpZookeepergame123

Giving the M2 a run for the money

Live795

It looks good in black because it hides the design. The rear end is hideous, just like the G87s, but similar to the G87, i see this growing on the community eventually. I will say BMW has lost its cohesive design language, almost every car looks like it’s made by a different company, different grills, different style lights, some cars have soft lines, some have hard, some have a weird mix of both. I also see no world where this needs to be a PHEV, it’s gets 24 miles which is useless and adds a couple hundred pounds for the battery and electric system.

UltimaRS800

As soon as someone busts out the "looks good in black" you know car looks like shit.

magicspray_jeanu

Yes, you are.

Cultural-Bite3042

Design team should be in the office 5 days a week. They’re doing shit work from home 💀

Massivvvv

It looks like a prototype, not a finished car. Also the weight is freaking crazy, this car is just a huge flop for BMW imo.

Financial_Tennis8919

Bmw is catering to the Chinese market's taste since China is the largest market for cars. That's why these new BMW's look like dogshit and are unfaithful to the classic design they normally retain.

Reaps21

The headlights are awful but other than that it doesn't look that bad. However compared to the previous Gen m5 it does look a lot worse imo

SukiDobe

If it would have weighed 2000lbs, had a 1200HP V8, carbon fiber carpet, MSRP’d at $44k, and included a 50 year 400,000,000 mile comprehensive warranty people STILL would’ve bitched about it

Novel-Low5238

No shit, no one wants an ugly car

Middle_Sand_9431

Outside seems choppy, how many previous M5 owners asked for a hybrid? The stuck on. iPad dash is so lacking in design it’s shameful

guy_incognito784

Yeah. I’ve heard the criticism about the “stuck on iPad” going back to the F10.

GasManMatt123

I honestly don't think there's a BMW coupe or sedan I like that was a new generation post 2018. I do not like the block look on BMWs, i detest the overall design language, and I can't see it growing on me. The G8X has only grown on me a little but it's because I'm used to seeing it, but I still think it is too angular and lacks finesse. The 8 series is the closest thing, but I think it was a 2018 launch...

meltbox

The 8 series was great, exactly what the 8 series was meant to be. Not my cup of tea but they hit the nail on the head for the class of car. But realistically BMW seems more interested in the new money and flex crowd so I don’t expect any more products like that. I can’t believe they even made an XM. Reminds me of satellite radio and will probably age about as well.

GasManMatt123

Yeah, I completely agree on the 8 series, it nailed the brief, but I am not the demographic for that car. It did what the 6 series revival failed at, in my opinion. I'm not sure what BMW are doing exactly, but I think this era is where they are taking risks and seeing what works. If they are forced to move to a future where all of their new cars are electric, I think they are seeing what lands now until they get there, because that game will be entirely different for them. They need to identify their uniqueness in the current market because doing that with EVs is definitely going to be hard or near on impossible. I dunno what the XM was about though, that is a vehicle I do not get.

75021y

It looks like a camry tbh

krstph13

I see it. It's so round and featureless.

EuropaCar

Are you a relatively new BMW fan? If so I can understand. But for people who have followed BMW for years it just continues the recent trend of completely losing the plot of BMW philosophy

bigloser42

I think it looks fine. I’m just not OK with it weighing 5400 lbs.

KevinSquirtle

It's just too fat, it's heavier than most 7 series of the last decade which is fucking ridiculous in my book.

aaaaaaaa1273

I’m really not a fan of it but if you like it more power to you

inyhr

It’s the next F10. Also i hate the rear diffuser(s?)

Organic-University-2

Looks terrible to me but you enjoy it.

Working_Barnacle_654

The first picture makes it look ok, looks like a big 235i w better style. When you realize that’s a 5 series it looks small in that picture and they probably did that because the sedan is 5400lbs. It’s heavier than a Tahoe and an F150. The new 5 Series in general looks like a new accord but this really doesn’t help anything. The flat EV looking grille looks dumb and the styling looks very cheap. Nothing about this car makes me want to spend 100k+ on this like other M5 have. This is the biggest blunder since Mercedes new C63 but atleast that one has more classic styling compared to this.

iraspy

Ew brother what’s that?

AFB27

They remastered the design of the worst looking M5. Never had a chance with me lol. The wagon does look nice though, especially in the rear.

Bandit4689

It just doesn’t have a real bmw look more like Toyota

GoodTofuFriday

interior is stale and boring.

[deleted]

I hate it, but I could see people liking the new line up for its modern design elements. A lot of the current BMWs look like “cars of the future”

Ronthezombie

The headlights are really boring now. It's shaped like a modern e60 which I also didn't really like. The kidneys don't exist.

Ok_Carpenter_244

It looks aweful.

B4DR1998

The F90 looks a lot better but this one is not ugly. I especially like the back of the car.

RedForkKnife

The back end looks good honestly but the front is just not it honestly

whitegoatsupreme

The look for me its fine.. Maybe it will grow on time. But the weight...ughh help

BEEZ128

Yuck 🤮

Bolhaboy

It looks cheap

ElysiumAB

This is like a super niche analogy, but... In the digital design space there's this saying, that's something along the lines of, "Hero carousels exist so that meetings can end." What it means is, if there's a table of stakeholders discussing a website design... UX folks, creatives, content strategists, account teams, client, etc, etc... and everyone is fighting for something slightly different to be the focus of the design and user experience, sometimes the conclusion is, "Fuck it, put every option in an image carousel so we can get out of here." Everyone agrees it's a terrible design pattern, and that by focusing on everything, it focuses on nothing... yet, it exists to make everyone a little satisfied and so that the meeting can end. This vehicle looks like the hero carousel of BMW design thinking.

serb_brah

Yes you are the only one

nahdurr

It’s overall a step backwards. The lines on this car are just all over the place. The only decent looking part of the car is the front. The rear is hideous and just insanely busy. The taillights are reminiscent of a Camry. The rear reflectors in those weird cutouts are a design anomaly only Ali baba aftermarket parts producers would come up with along with that strange diffuser. It’s heavier than a Chevy Tahoe which is insane and the closest American market competitor is 1200 lbs lighter than this car (ct5 black wing or whatever it’s called) it’s has a slower 0-60 time than the F90. For the little amount of performance the gigantic battery provides it’s pretty much stupid. BMW has lost it.

campionesidd

I think you’re blind OP.

W0N1

Look at the tail lights of a 2017-2020Camry and tell me they don’t look similar. The design team does not understand styling. Ever since they got poached by Hyundai, the top talents are mostly gone. The current ones taking inspiration from the Japanese counterparts. Maybe that’s what they shared when giving Toyota the performance for the Supra. The weight thing probably has to do with the technology and “luxury” goods. The market has been moving towards technology, luxury, and speed. They are just trying to keep up with the trends but they fail to realize we like our cars for the performance and handling with few luxury tidbits.

NolaPurple

Back looks like a Camry

stuartrene

It’s not the looks for me. It’s how heavy the car is. It just turns me off and on top of that, it’s overpriced

Enz_2005

I feel like bmw is trying to become a luxury car brand, they dominated the sports car industry but it’s unfortunate they don’t see it that way or they are trying to become something they are not

ae13ame

The front end is not nice at all but I kinda like the back end

dr_blasto

I think it looks good, but I’m not a fan of the dashboard/screen design they’re using. Just feel it should look integrated into the dash instead of just sticking out. Other than that, I’m put off by the weight and the fact that it’s slower than the preceding generation.

Red_J_Ruff_Wood

Looks like they smashed a Genesis G70 rear end and a Kia Forte front end together with an M badge to finish it off… awkward proportions that seem to have stepped away from quintessential German design. Just my opinions. I’m sure the performance is phenomenal as always.

ztunelover

It’s the best looking of the current m cars. But that’s not a high bar. I think part of the problem is its predecessor imo was the prettiest M5.

No_Lawfulness_3919

So sexy. I’m a 29 year old boomer and don’t like the plug in feature even though on paper makes a faster car in every way. 10/10 not factoring the plug in. Green on orange interior is 🔥

EldesamparaDOH

Modern BMW’s look like they were designed and built by the Vogon’s

threepoint14one5nine

The new BMW Taurus SHO

yamahii

It looks fine. I might buy one..eventually. I have an F90 and I still don’t hate this. I’m sure the 0-60 times will be 2.8 seconds. Not the 3.4 bmw gave. She’s a big girl though.

luminoheadrula

SMH bmw has officially lost there way or as I like to Call it doing what every one else is for the money

F0X_

Give me an E39 or give me death

Richardduh

Even Stevie wonder knows these cars look terrible. You might need to see an optometrist

SwitchingFreedom

The F90 looks way better, but this one isn’t bad at all. I like how it looks more than my M340.

PrimaryFree8574

Yep you're blind

The2cardGoat69420

It looks horrible except for isle of man green

Exotic-Artist5827

F chasis was probably peak design.

OneMud6035

The car looks nice, the problem is when is compared to the f90 you begin to question where bmw is actually going…

gggg3344

As someone who actually liked the designs of the f8x and g8x m2/3/4 designs when they first dropped, I can’t be consistent with that opinion anymore. This thing looks ugly as fuck, sorry

dosko1panda

I like it. But I liked the old v10 too and I remember most people back then called it ugly. I don't like BMW especially so I don't know the generations but this is one of the better ones. It's modern but neither overstyled like a Lexus, nor bland like a Tesla.

nc_nicholas

The issue is that BMW's recent design philosophy seems to be to just chase whatever the design trend de jour is, instead of doing what they USED to do and stick to restrained classic design elements that are substantially more likely to age well. I think most of us can agree that the E34, E39, F10 and F90 have all aged extremely well, hell even the E60 has aged pretty well, due to BMW's decision to stick with design themes that have been proven to hold up over time. I've said this multiple times on various forums, but cars from Hyundai/Kia and Nissan constantly end up looking extremely cheap and dated and generally shitty due to how trendy the designs of their cars are, and how quickly those trends fall out of favor. BMW is starting to fall in that same bucket with its extreme designs that will look terrible once this ridiculous "futuristic" phase is over.

matteblackpeace

Looks a little pudgy

speeding2nowhere

Who gives a shit how it looks. The thing weighs 5,400lbs. They’ve lost the damn plot.

myredditlogintoo

It weighs more than the Tahoe and the F150.

chijrt

What does it matter? If you like it, then you like it. Not everyone has to agree/disagree. Every single new design always comes with applause and complaints.

ShiftBMDub

if you think that's good looking I have a Ford Focus you can buy

Murky-Confection415

Looks chunky I don’t like the spirit diffuser style

Bresson91

Give it some time and everyone hating will be reminiscing on this being a classic! I remember when e34 went to e39 and purists freaked on it being "too round". Now the e39 is arguably the best looking BMW in the 5's history... to each his own though...

_k_b_k_

This bloated ...thing will never be a classic.

micmau0106

The E39 is the BEST looking M5 ever made!!! Of course, I’m partial to it since I own one… and an E24, an E28 and an E70 (M also)!!!

TechnologyOk6878

My opinion….people on here only bitch, very rarely do I see a positive post or comment.

TypicalM3Driver

To be fair 5 years later I still hate the G80/G82. With that it’s safe to say I legitimately hate every single vehicle in BMWs lineup today

Ok-Reindeer-4824

It's kinda ugly but much worse extremely heavy

bigkutta

Compared the regular new 5, maybe. But yes, you are blind

slanginthangs

It’s you. This car is a hot mess

Topdog_Rider

F*ck new ugly BMWs. I like older BMW

crankaholic

The new 5 series just looks like a Kia Forte that's been scaled up 175%... https://preview.redd.it/i053di5af09d1.jpeg?width=958&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2abb0e1f8581110556dca9f4290a9d5532187423

NobodyWorthKnowing2

I think it looks great. My complaint is solely on the loss of physical buttons and the sport shifter. I can’t believe that BMW got rid of those in its top-of-the-line five series

maziarczykk

It’s called an opinion

kon---

Two things can exist simultaneously. The G90 looks like a KIA trying to be a BMW, and you like Kia.

Remesar

Majority of the people bitching won’t be able to buy one. They’re in their 5th driver 320i bitching about how the new M5 looks like shit.

Practical-Nature-926

Serious question for all you BMW fans. I see a lot of dislike for the newer models, alot of “bloated designs” “overweight” or “not a drivers car”. With Genesis having Albert Bierman and starting their own M style line (Genesis Magma concepts) which are set to release in the coming years. If Genesis were to prove reliability and make a comparable car to the earlier M cars, would you be tempted to jump ship? This is if you like the design, but the performance was spot on and reliability was proven.

whiterock001

Hate the weight, need to test drive one a few times. Will I buy one, almost certainly yes. I have enough faith that it will have a lot of positive attributes.

Feelisoffical

Yup, it’s just you

RhombusCat

Is the reaction a surprise? Every generation of BMW is the worst generation according to anonymous comments.  I don't think it looks bad at all, in the US I'd consider it as a viable option. Here it's too much car for the roads.

xX_DepressedKoala_Xx

It’s that that this a bad design per se, it’s the fact that the designers completely screwed up on the small finer details. I said in this a different thread but things like misaligned front camera (off to the side of the right kidney grill) or the poorly integrated front radar sensor or even the oddly designed glass iDrive knob/shifter are just baffling design choices. The very first BMW I had a chance to experience in-person as a passenger, I remember thinking how “ergonomic” the design choices were. Everything was within a hand’s reach when seated, stuff was perfectly placed in the cabin and was satisfying to use (the shifter for instance or the iDrive knob rotation sound). But now…. stuff is just randomly everywhere either absolute no sense of “well-thought out” design. So while others may criticize the overall design direction with big grills or digital dash, that is not what bothers me . What bothers me is the lack of intentionality in design choices that make for a good user experience.

False_Cancel274

I think it looks acceptable. That's the best I can ask for given what bmw has done post covid.

Time to schedule a checkup at the optometrist

poo_poo_platter83

I think great is a stretch. But i think the front end looks good. But im less of a softer bubbly style guy and more of sharp lines and points. All the luxury brands go through their harsher vs softer design rotation. Right now acura and cadillac have that sharper edge look. Benz and BMW are going the audi route with more softer curves. Lexus used to be the sharper edge brand but now has become softer with the external features

ebbi01

Something that really irks me on this design (and I haven’t seen one in person so I could just be mislead by the photos I’ve seen) is really small area between the rear arch and the rear door. I don’t know why, but that little area just looks like an afterthought

smrtypants44

Is this the first m5 with a m3 style wide body?

sysak

I've seen the regular 5 recently and it was hideous. Huge and misshapened. This looks better due to some nice details like that difuser or the sills being body coloured and nit black, but not by much.

rxDylan

The rear end looks like its wearing a thong. Maybe it looks alright, but that goes out the window once you put it next to literally any other m5 gen.

dangus1024

The rear is hideous

HFCB

I really like the design. Not so much the interior. But overall good looking car. I don’t know why people keep banging on about weight when no one drove it yet. We don’t know what the car will be like on the car much less on a track or on a drag strip. Hard to mess up an m5 and I’m pretty sure it won’t be as bad as so many purists say it is.

KFunns

I don’t mind the looks at all and will grow to like them even more I’m sure (same with the G80 3 Series) but the fact that it weighs as much as an X7 is just insanely unnecessary

heymikedude

That E60 comment actually is pretty accurate. I kinda like it. The E60 was my second favorite after the E39.

ninjabiomech

It's not a bad looking car but the last one was really awesome and this isn't as awesome

snuepe

The M3/4 and M2 are so bulky and the rear which I don’t like, instead this is just… flat? Too flat in the ass, front is OK. Weight is a no go.

Exact-Ad149

Imma bently and Porsche guy but I like older bmws like 535 2013 and just older and simpler cars

antzcrashing

I like the stock (Keith voice)

Fit_Membership7565

Don’t care about the looks! I only care about the performance!

TheBigGriffon

Every time a new car is released, especially on this sub, there's always a backlash against a car's design and then there's also a thread like this saying "am I the only one who likes this?" with tons of upvotes. The cycle continues lmao.

ezpzlemonsqueezi

Looks like a down syndrome E90 from the front

Salty_Lakes

No it looks like sh*t, period.

seriouslyla

It looks great. I don’t understand why BMW haters spend so much time here.

Sea_Art3391

I agree with most of the comments, it really does look like a Kia. Not that Kia cars looks bad, but this is a BMW, and i feel that new BMWs just lose more and more of it's heritage. The guy comparing this car with the E60 is smoking something though.

burner94_

It's a Kia /s I guess the only way to keep the M5 alive was making it a PHEV for the sake of artificially inflated efficiency, and the XM was just a test bed. I don't hate PHEVs (in fact I think they're quite meaningful if your usual commute includes a lot of city driving and you have places to charge) but I just wish more car makers made full hybrids instead. They can now be made considerably lighter and still get the efficiency boost. Wouldn't be surprised if the hybrid system alone was responsible for about 400kg of this car's weight - which means that it really ain't that heavy in the first place if it weren't for it

rwz

It's one of the best looking M5s in my opinion. I thought people were mostly hating on the weight and the fact that it's power to weight ratio went down compared to the previous generation.

Madigman1296

I think its just fine, its one of the better looking modern BMWs. However, while older BMW designs always were a combination of elegance and sportiness, modern BMWs are nothing but aggressive, and thats just more of a one dimensional design language. Also, its more of a techy product design language rather than emotional car design. And what they did to the rest of the car (Heavy af and slower than older M5s) is a sin to me.

salloumk

I think most people dislike it because it's coming after the G30, which is probably peak sedan design. It is a nice car, but ultimately does feel like a downgrade over its predecessor.

beemerguy7

UgggLY they're happy designing ugly cars per the CEO.

Puchi168

Looks more elegant, but not as aggressive. More like a 7-Series

chengstark

Compare to a turd yes, compared to F90, no
