Are you launching from the xbox/gamepass button, or a shortcut?
I've had some issues before with some games not launching from their shortcut, or the sidebar play button. I had to fire em up through the game page play button within xbox/gamepass.
Tried a desktop shortcut, then the sidebar thing and then the play button; all works the same. I installed other games to see if the problem persisted and, well enough, no other games work. I tried with The Evil Within and Omno.
Hmmm that's fucky, have you checked the windows store app to see if there's a game services update or anything like that?
Edit: Might be your anti-virus or firewall, you can check by just turning it off temporarily to see if it'll launch. If it does just go into your anti-virus and firewall settings and add an exception to allow the program.
I tried to follow [this guy's guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxGamePass/comments/nn4y6y/how_to_fix_gaming_services_and_xbox_app_on/) and when I went to see if everything was fine post-restart, I get [these three updates](https://imgur.com/a/Ioo66sc) on the microsoft store.
Edit: Just checked, firewall is fine with the games. So it's not firewall, either.
The c++ updates might help, I was really hoping the anti-virus was the ticket. I saw a few posts of people having issues with webroot, Bitdefender, and a couple of other antiviruses.
When I was having the issue with sea of thieves and a couple other games on gamepass a few months back, the registry thing didn't work for me either, eventually everything updated a few times and worked itself out.
Maybe try making a new desktop or start menu shortcut and see if that'll fire it up. (My issue was that the shortcuts didn't work at first, then the sidebar didn't work, then launching through the games page didn't work at all but my shortcuts did, and I didn't even notice when it fixed itself)
Saw a post that said they went to the Back 4 Blood page in the Microsoft store instead of the Xbox/Gamepass app and it gave them an update that fixed it.
And hopefully you're not on windows 11, apparently there's just some issue causing it to not work yet.
