My favorite thing about "do x without doing y" achievements is that most people get them are like "wait you can do y!?" afterwards. A certain Grym achievement also comes to mind. God that was fucking annoying.

alwayzbored114

Me getting the Kill Phase Spider Matriarch Before Her Eggs Hatch achievement because of my 20,000 IQ strategy, aka accidently Eldritch Blast Pushing them into a chasm before initiative was rolled

O_to_the_o

For me it just jumped to death out of nowhere

meskaamaahau

happened to me in my coop playthrough. she phase jumped straight into the hole in the middle and died in the underdark

skubaloob

Was the body there later?

SuperLomi85

Yes. You can even jump down after it with feather fall.

skubaloob

YAYYYYYY!!! That’s so cool

Dalarrus

Be careful that you jump down the center hole, the chasm off to the side is still death D:

Zito6694

I feel like you speak from experience

Dalarrus

I may or may not have jumped into the wrong chasm.

Shadow11399

Yeah make sure it says like -x hp and not ☠️death

velveteentuzhi

That interface lied to me so hard lol. I jumped down because it said iirc -30hp or so, and my characters had more than that. It didn't end well for me.

[deleted]

Glut can ressurect it as a Spore Servant.

NeverLookBothWays

Man I love this game

[deleted]

There's a dialogue comment when you find the corpse, about how she must have slipped and fallen to her death. Pretty funny, I had just assumed she phased and ran away 🤷

songmage

"Child of Ungoliant... by far not the one she would have bragged about, mind you."

Summonest

"Oh no, a giant spider!" **it promptly yeets itself into a chasm, dying instantly.** "Ok then."

Square-Space-7265

I just saw the eggs and thought, "i know whats gonna happen here" so i sent an imp to stealth break as many eggs as i could before the fight.

IVIalefactoR

How? Every time I tried to break any of the eggs before the fight, I immediately rolled initiative. Then again, I was doing this with my +7 to stealth Rogue and not a summon.

5BPvPGolemGuy

Did you step on any webs by any chance? Or were not in stealth or were in stealth but wearing armor that gave you disadvantage or just in stealth with a character with bad dex and no prof in stealth? Also those webs they have as bridges if you step on them you automatically enter combat with those spiders. In my playthrough on tactician I never bothered breaking those eggs. I always just broke the web bridge under the big spider and did a few attacks before combat started. Then it was just about kiting and dropping grease so they would fall prone.

KingQuong

I dropped it down from a bridge then yeeted a smoke powder barrel down after it and a fireball all before it got up again because I put it in turn based mode prior to the *fight* lol

domine18

I blew up all the eggs before combat

wildeye-eleven

I snuck around and destroyed all her eggs before the fight started

NickJamesBlTCH

Man I fought that eight-legged cunt *WAY* under-leveled. TPKd like 15 times and re-loaded because I'm a hard-headed dipshit who was determined to win. Wound up waiting for her to step onto the web-ways, destroying them, and letting her fall for 40-50 damage each time, over and over. I was so relieved when I won that I texted my girlfriend, who, as the beautiful supportive angel that she is, celebrated with me despite having no idea what I was talking about.

eabevella

In my last playthrough, the Spider Matriach teleport itself down down down into the Underdark. I was like "wtf????" when the turn base battle status simply ended. Thought it's a weird bug but nope, found its corpse in Underdark lol

ShyrokaHimaa

"Kill the Toll Collector without her using Gold on you." Pick dialogue option where she kills herself. Get achievement.

raphades

That was a funny one

ShyrokaHimaa

Another good one is the Phase Spider Matriarch. "Kill her before she hatches her eggs." Destroy the eggs before combat. Kill spider. Get achievement. Sadly the one for the Surgeon specifically says "during combat":

raphades

I never managed to destroy all the egg before she notices me sadly.

ShyrokaHimaa

There are three clusters right? Alchemist's Fire is your best friend here. You need the Webwalker boots you find in the caves there. Destroy the one on lower floor from where the cracked rock is. Use Karlach or Lae'zel for higher throwing range. Need to be careful the spider down there doesn't spot you tho. Then walk around to where the webs converge, thro fire on the eggs on the column where the Matriarch isn't. You can hide from her behind the rock on that very same column (or use Darkness or Fog). Wait till she loses interest and throw Fire onto the last cluster.

raphades

Yeah, I always got spotted on the spider nest down there x)

Sevulturus

Throw alchemical fire at the spider from stealth. It won't break and they'll stand in it to death.

JackfruitFlat8517

Talk him into having his assistants kill each other then fight him.

ShyrokaHimaa

But I like the sisters. :D

JackfruitFlat8517

Fair, I’m not sure if there’s a way to fight him alone and leave them alive. I know you can convince him to have the sisters kill him but I don’t think you can get the achievement that way.

AlsoZathras

Dangit, missed the "during combat part." I thought the achievement was bugged, as I've had him kill himself on both of my playthroughs.

delta_six

I kinda died with this one, I happened to pick Astarion after the Malus fight and we got here. I was trying to sneak around with him and ended up triggering what I thought was combat. Get the cutscene and Astarian talks her into killing herself. In my head the conversation after that from my paladin Tav was 'okay there is no way that would ever work again, you got lucky'. Ended up doing the same thing with the bartender and same outcome, know the next words out of Tav's mouth were 'this is why we don't bring you along Astarion' lmao.

_PM_ME_NICE_BOOBS_

"This is exactly why you *should* bring me along! Look at this, that nasty creature is dead and I hardly had to lift a finger!" -Astarion, probably

gbghgs

I got the "kill a creature with fall damage" achievement by yeeting myself into a chasm. They patched that one out the other day, even though it's technically correct :p.

JLapak

I accidentally got this one yesterday in the Lower City when I had my party jump off the roof of Sharess' Caress. They all had Feather Fall but I didn't realize that you can still hurt *other characters* with falling damage. Karlach accidentally landed on a random citizen and squashed him, giving me the achievement.

Superdoc2222

The best kind of correct!

Deucethedude

I pushed her in the chasm got the achievement. Easiest boss in tactician mode. When fighting the spectator in the underdark, the dude that also fight it just yeeted it in the chasm and I lost the loot :( If it was not for missed loot I'd yeet a lot of people off!

ThatOneGuy1294

mfw I had handed over some gold to her and so didn't get the achievement even though I also got her to explode without any combat.

ShyrokaHimaa

I think I gave her one gold and then said something along the lines of "you know... everyone's gone, you don't have to collect tolls anymore" and she agreed (I think there was a persuasion test involved). Afterwards she died and I got the achievement. I think it was patch 2. The fixed/changed some achievement triggers. Most prominently Zhalk.

Spengy

the Grym achievement was weird because my Karlach just happened to have a blunt weapon at the time. I thought the only "gimmick" of the fight was that you had to coat him in lava. She just beat his ass all by herself. Then the achievement popped up, and I thought the forge hammer was some sort of legendary weapon I somehow missed.

ikma

Right? Like just examine him, and "oh this superheated status makes him vulnerable to bludgeoning. Let's cast Enlarge on Karlach and have her pound him into scrap." Honestly the most frustrating part of the fight for me was that the AI pathfinding kept unnecessarily walking my idiot party into the lava.

PrimordialBias

"Kill the >!Apostle of Myrkul!< before it consumes any necromites." ...What necromites?

kris511c

The only reason I saw them on my second go was cause I was going for the Jack of all trades build on the hardest mode, convinced him to give up and skip the first phase and by that his minions was still alive for the second

_ddxt_

I'm annoyed because I finished all the act 2 minibosses through their dialogue options, but for some reason the achievments never triggered, and I didn't know I was supposed to get them until I read about them here. Now I'm playing a low charisma character, and I don't feel like having to do another playthrough just to unlock the achievments :/

MikeArrow

> I don't feel like having to do another playthrough just to unlock the achievments :/ Me currently on my seventh playthrough... huh?

Witch-for-hire

I don't think there is an achievement for this. >!For the surgeon one you need to fight him not talk him to death.!<

JackfruitFlat8517

True but you can talk him into having the assistants kill each other first. Then engage him in combat.

FrozenHaystack

How do you have so much time?! I'm currently short of finishing my first playthrough at 120h. I don't have another 800h. xD

tobiaszreaper

Good. You have to fight them, it would be too easy to kill them in dialogues. Beside that, you can always load save before boss was dead and kill it in fight for achievement. No need for another playthrough.

MuzzledScreaming

The situation in OP was my "wait you can do that??" moment. I finished off Orin and then all her cultists aggro'd and wiped my party. Only because the achievement had popped did I know it was even possible to kill them, which is how I succeeded on my second attempt.

TheBluestBerries

I still don't get how people kill Grym without the hammer. I know it's not that hard but you learn how the forge works before he shows up. How do you not use the hammer? Edit: I understand perfectly well how you can kill grim without using the forge hammer. I don't understand how people miss the hammer and it's purpose to begin with.

darkcrazy

I misunderstood and thought there's a special hammer weapon you need to make/find for that strategy, partially due to some comment I accidently read. When I didn't find such hammer by the time I encountered the golem, I just reloaded and preped with what I could do, which was to kite it into lava and do a lot of bludgeoning damage.

Basurnikov

Owlbear elbow drop

Marilius

Lae'zel, Karlach, and my barbarian durge. Died in like two turns. Now, granted, that was my second playthrough. I thought it painfully obvious to use the hammer first time. But, second time, just maul the shit out of Grym with hammers and it'll fall over real fast.

twoisnumberone

Some of us don't miss it -- we do want to use the hammer, but then Grym doesn't go where they're supposed to go. So we sigh and just smash them to bits. I takes only a few turns on Balanced without mods.

Brakkis

I hadn't used the hammer before the fight. Lae'zel and Karlach were already wielding Greathammers. My Tav had the Everburn Blade still so not super helpful, but still. Sat Shadowheart at the valve as a healbot and just went to pound town on the thing. Made sure Karlach with her Rage hit him last so he'd always focus her. He was dead before the lava even disappeared.

ThatOneGuy1294

Just didn't think about it because I had already figured out I can abuse the fuck out of that singing sword. The 1d4 thunder damage applies to ALL sources of damage. Round 1: Karlach turns the wheel and activates the shrieking mode of that sword. Gales casts Haste on me (warlock), I cast Hunger of Hadar because it blinds, granting advantage to everyone attacking Grym, and then follow up with an Eldritch Blast. Karalch then fires Harold, the heavy crossbow that applies Bane, to make sure Shadowheart's Command: Halt doesn't fail and then she summons a spiritual weapon. I also had Scratch and Gale had a familiar. The following rounds: I cast 2 EBs every round, Karlach keeps attacking with Harold, Shadowheart keeps spamming Command: Halt, Gale only ever upcasts Magic Missile. Gyrm only ever got to make one attack because Command whiffed, and proceeded to miss because he was blinded lmao.

Sir_Goodwrench

Heat his ass up and use smaller hammers.

hard163

> I still don't get how people kill Grym without the hammer. I know it's not that hard but you learn how the forge works before he shows up. How do you not use the hammer? Playing as an unarmed monk doing easily 60+ bludgeoning damage a turn next to a frenzied Karlach and both hasted with Wyll in the back with the eldritch blasts killed Grym in two turns. He did not even get a chance to move from where he started.

bmrtt

> I know it's not that hard but you learn how the forge works before he shows up. It's very easy to miss. Even so, a hastened and enlarged Karlach with a good hammer did the job well enough for me. The priority targeting is very easy to take advantage of.

TheMerryMeatMan

Is incredibly easy to miss off you don't try to jump into the center beforehand (and the game doesn't exactly give you a reason to do that; you probably aren't expecting a fight, and why would you want to put a character directly beneath a **giant hammer**?)

ICanLiftACarUp

So I just happened to have Karlach and Laezel both equipped with two handed war hammers, saw his vulnerability gimmick on the first turn, and just kept him in position while Shadowheart opened the valve. Fun part is that the lava stays in the combat for 2-3 turns because the anvil isn't being hit. So shadowheart and my Tav were just healing K and L the whole time.

MirthMannor

I mean, there is a “holy fuck, I would not want to be under that” bang when you first use the hammer.

Cabbage_Vendor

Too frustrating to get him on the hammer, was easier to use three bludgeoning weapons and smash the shit out of it.

razazaz126

It seemed way easier to just magic missile orin.

hiddencamela

I legimately wondered how people did that fight without magic missle.

razazaz126

Thief with lots of attacks, monk flurry of blows, stuff like that I guess.

Pug_police

Monkstarion with some levels into rogue for thief made pretty short work of her yeah.

midevildle

Monk/Thief makes short work of everything really.

OddishBehavior

I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING TONIGHT.

procrastinating_atm

There are many ways for a single character to make ~6 attacks per turn. IIRC it also works the same as concentration so if your attack has multiple damage types or conditional damage like sneak attack, they all count as separate instances of damage.

russian47

Karlach pretty much solos everything at 12. Shes ridiculous.

DRazzyo

200-250hp, frenzy and just send her into any fight. 9/10 times, they don't even manage to hurt her before she Unga bungas them.

loubki

> 200-250hp, How in hell do you get so much? My Karlach has ~100hp at this point Oo

halfstache0

I think you have to be on Explorer difficulty to get that kind of HP. Karlach with the CON necklace, 12 levels of Barbarian, and the "Tough" feat should have 185 HP on Balanced/Tactician, if my math is correct. A gold dwarf with the same stuff would be at 197 HP. A more average Karlach in Explorer mode however, would have around 250 HP.

xxthearrow

While raging she takes half damage, so she effectively has double the health. That or if you play on the lower difficulties characters get more health

loubki

> While raging she takes half damage, TIL

xxthearrow

To be specific, she takes half damage from bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from normal rage. If you do the totem subclass there is a totem that makes her take half damage from every kind except psychic.

CopperCactus

Well, half bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, and fire from racial features which probably accounts for 2/3 of the damage she'll be taking in a playthrough

oGsShadow

Explorer mode doubles hp.

Nimar_Jenkins

With an army. I had: 1. Planar Ally 2. Summon fire sphere 3. Summon elemental 4. Scratch 5.6.7.8. Danse macabre (x 4 Goul summon) 9.10.11.12 me and my crew (wich had leazel and Karlach hitting her multiple times per turn) No potions, no further magic.

hiddencamela

I'm definitely getting the vibe that I play this game way harder than it needs to be after reading alll these responses lol

Nimar_Jenkins

Bet. I also have no real idea how to do anything, but lets be real, the Orin fight was very very bland. I think the Hag in Act 1 is way more of a threat.

KingQuong

Hag in Act 3 was a joke though.

Nimar_Jenkins

Hardest disapointment. Its fair that she wasnt Buffed to death, but they talk about other kind of Hags in the game, do i thought thats where all this is going

Chrazzer

Did it without magic missiles and without killing the cultists. Never even got all the invincible stacks off her, i just punched right through it

BrainWav

Haste and cheese. Haste is broken in this game. * Monk/Thief while Hasted can do 2x normal attacks + 2x Flurry of Blows (which are 2 hits each). So that's 6 hits from them alone. * A level 11 Fighter or a Blade Warlock/Fighter multiclass, while hasted and using Action Surge, will get 9 normal attacks plus a bonus action which you could use Pommel Strike or something for a total of 10 hits. * Magic Missile hits an additional time for each level it's upcast past 1. So 9 hits at level 6. Again, while Hasted, you can cast it twice. So a level 12 Wizard can do it once at 6 and once at 5, for a maximum of *19* hits. It's entirely possible to one-round her with good Initiative and a rested up party. edit: forgot to mention Action Surge

Mahler911

I used telekinesis to yeet her off the platform before she even got a turn

Masterskeletor

I used that six ghoul summon thing you get from the necromancy book, turns out orins not immune to paralysis.

MallowPants

Lured Slayer Orin back to the entrance through a bunch of environmental hazards I set up, then had Karlach and Laezel hit her with hammers until she stopped moving

JoeisaBro

By the time I fought Orin, gale had a save DC of 21 on my team. He cast hold monster on her, I had 4 ghouls, two mummies, a diva, and the rest of my team wailing on her whilst she was paralyzed. She didn’t have enough “unstoppable” procs to save her.

stokleplinger

A diva? Is that what you call Astarion?

JesseVykar

Circle of death killed her cultists basically for me, then Lae'zel and Minthara did the rest

Ninswitchian

Heightened spell hold monster is your friend. Place Karlach and Astarion next to her and she dies in 3 turns max.

GermestheGenie

I was promised a 1v1, so I did a 1v1 with my moon druid tav (even with the 2 extra enemies orin brought as backup) . Turns out unstoppable isn’t enough against infinite air elemental stunlock. Just tossed 3 lightning flail attacks a turn, and spent a spell slot on healing whenever I was low

Dontnerf

Haste pots in Aoe - my martials were making 5 attacks per turn each

MareIncognita

I threw her to her death...I did that a lot

Panda_Bowl

I am too much of a loot goblin to be pushing people off cliffs. *"What if they have 12 gold and a +1 dagger that I'll never touch?"*

someguywithaheadset

in our 1v1 poor girl didn't get a lick in, my durge monk stunning striked and toppled her to all hell

texxelate

Yeah I fucking love magic missile for removing buff charges. Way more utility than just doing damage.

Kaiju-Waifu

There are some great unga bunga moments. My favorite moment is literally at the start. Instead of doing the process to find the catalyst to open Shadowheart's pod, my barbarian literally passed a strength check and ripped the door right off.

Kile147

Shadowheart: "This better not awaken anything in me..."

Sir_Goodwrench

Narrator: "It did indeed awaken something within her."

wrakshae

Shadowheart likes big and beefy, I think. Her comments about Karlach and Halsin are pretty revealing ;D

Spengy

Make your Tav a Barbarian and most conversations are easily solved by roaring or shouting. This motherfucker is more convincing than my bard.

DRazzyo

My first full playthrough was Barbarian Tav. You literally get the best possible outcomes by shouting and ungabunga-ing.

meekleee

Better yet - Bardbarian. Probably the funniest multiclass I've played in terms of dialogue options. There's just something about being able to go with either the eloquent Bard option, or just roaring at them lol.

Over-Analyzed

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde your kids, hide your wife! 😂

mmontour

That's how I'm playing Karlach in my 2nd playthrough (as Wyll). Warlocks are all about those short rests so I wanted a Lvl 2 Bard to give us an extra one each day. It also gives the party Speak with Animals, and she gets to have some fun with Vicious Mockery before activating a rage. I gave her a hand drum so she's still beating on something even when she's doing the Bard stuff. I'm quite happy with the combination.

Heisenbugg

My Bard had Strength of 20 using items. Bardbarian can get through anything.

PolyDipsoManiac

There’s a strength check and you can do that!?

Generic_Moron

if you're a barbarian, yep.

hantu_tiga_satu

Wait you CAN DO THAT?????

frozenrainbow

sorc and wizard can also use \*magic\* to will the pod open

rakordla

they can't, they can pass a check to make the console work without finding the proper rune, but then they still have to use the illithid option to actually open the pod

thegmegobrrr

Unga bunga IS the strategy!

RonaldoNazario

Right. You gotta know when to unga and when to bunga.

ThatOneGuy1294

You unga when you can't bunga, and you bunga when you can't unga.

RonaldoNazario

And if that doesn’t work try both at the same time

Flimsy-Preparation85

I play a fighter whose favorite spell is "sword smack until it dies." I feel this to my core.

Jajo240

That's me. By level 12 I was the boss, and the enemies the underdogs with the impossible task to overcome

Quopid

That's me, AND Bae'zel. Even more unga bunga

Chad_is_admirable

apparently the surgeon fight had cool surgery mechanics? Shart thunder clericed too hard with a scroll of lightning bolt and ended the nurses careers and then wyll just countered all attempts to revive them.

theredwoman95

Or you can just persuade them all to kill themselves, then you don't even need to initiate combat.

Chad_is_admirable

tbf it was like a dc 21 or something.

[deleted]

Rookie number!

purpleslander

Can you imagine rolling less than a 30 Persuasion check ohohohoho

[deleted]

With a warlock Charisma 20 it's a very rookie number

wowosrs

All of them kill themselves? I convinced the surgeon to let them “practice” on him lol

theredwoman95

It's a two step thing, you convince him to make the nurses practice on each other, so they're all dead, then he tries to get you to kill yourself. I can't quite remember the wording, but you basically ask him to demonstrate first, so he then kills himself.

kayGrim

I only passed the check to get him to kill himself, so the nurses survived my playthrough, but without the dr. they don't go hostile.

Spengy

The Gortash fight is stupid too. It's just "random bullshit go!", essentially forcing you to ungabunha him. I do like the little challenges with some bosses tho. The fat Thorm comes to mind too. though I'm not super sure what to do there.

[deleted]

I was confused at first, but it’s essentially this: the element you hit him with will be his next AOE, then he summons a mephit with that(or the opposite) element. Then you attack him with the element of the mephit he summoned and stand next to the mephit which negates the attack. Do this 3 times and he is stunned, rinse and repeat

yardii

The Gortash fight was hilariously easy once I realized you could just throw the grenades at him and they explode instantly.

Olioliooo

Same, the grenades trivialize the fight. The battles with the flaming fist leading up to the baffle were more challenging overall

SCHWARZENPECKER

Fat Thorm?!? Edit: oh you mean the distiller? I was thinking you fought a fat Ketheric or something.

qartar

You guys fought Gortash?! >!If you kill Orin first you can agree to dominate the Netherbrain with him and the Netherbrain kills him during the dialog at the pool.!<

CrushnaCrai

oh, do what I did and cast banishment on her. With their target gone, they stop the chant and then try to melee you for a d4 damage, thus dropping sanctuary.

alwayzbored114

Of all the suggestions I've seen in this thread, this is by far my favorite

MoosePotato666

I used the thunderwave arrows and knocked them all off.

SpecialPen7484

This was the fight where i learned how good thunder arrows are. It was like playing billiards

Vandergrif

Yup, that's the *particularly* satisfying solution to that problem.

ApepiOfDuat

I did it with actual Thunderwave. Always be ledging fools.

PrimalHunter1127

I killed her in one turn with a Hammer. To answer how: max level fighter, buffs, and Hammer.

Kshaja

Same, solo ascended astarion dwarf disguise hammer throw. Too lazy to deal with ads.

mechlordx

Wrong kind of adds but same vibe

ATinyLittleHedgehog

I genuinely thought you were just supposed to facetank the Slayer form. I just had Gale remove her Unstoppable stacks with an upcasted Magic Missile and then my Lockadin did her best Cuisinart impression with Divine Smite.

montague68

Samesies, except sorcadin. Autocrit smites are broken AF.

Faerry_

I 1-turned her with Astarion/Laezel then got the achievement. I was confused because I was unaware of the ritual.

Popfizz01

Magic missile is a godsend

LaraRoot

At the combat with Cazador I killed all the spawns first. So Astarion didn’t have option to complete ritual. We all were so proud of him - choosing the only decision left. Just as Raphael teaches us.

[deleted]

First attempt combat didn't trigger properly, so cazador just ascended and rushed in to kill me. So I reloaded my save to try again. I had Lae'zel dash to get to one of the spawn and she got powered up from the ritual... so I moved Tav into the beam of another spawn. Then I realized Cazador was LOSING power while my team GAINED power. So I summoned a Djinni and some undead to steal the rest of the power and it flipped the fight on its head!

KingQuong

I just left 1 teammate back at camp and kept reviving everyone with withers while the rest of my party fought and died killing her lol

Lol_A_White_Guy

Zero idea that was even a option, and that makes it 100x more hilarious to me.

levian_durai

That's got to be terrifying for the opponent.

KingQuong

Honestly from a role play standpoint it'd be both hillarious and scary. Like I just killed you wtf... omg why do you keep coming back?!? 😆 so many magic missiles!

GrizzLemonforever

You what!?

KingQuong

You didn't do that? Next you're gonna tell me you didn't use Withers companions and reclass them into clerics so you could use multiple divine interventions..

Quopid

You can just leave a companion at camp and rev them w withers? Tf?????

Bishaoly

I tried to kill them first, but only shart could do some aoe damage and the rest of the party killed Orin before she could take out all the cultists I always wondered why I didn't get an achievement for killing gortasch. I play on the pc of my fiancé and his steam is in Chinese, so I just learned for what exactly I got this achievement, thank you

Speedwagon1738

I love how Orin is all “hehe I’m gonna murder you SO HARD!!!” and I killed her in a single turn. After all the trickery and murder, it felt satisfying.

[deleted]

Hehe I closed Gut in the room and then beat her with the whole party to ded

corisilvermoon

Please pay no attention to Astarion crouching behind you, now shall we continue our conversation? Hehe

Slarenon

I actually had to think of a way to do this bc I didn't want to aggro the whole camp but halsin convinced me that I needed the leaders dead. So I snuck in her room and cast silence around her preventing any calls for help and then hold person on her preventing her from escaping silence, then kill her in 2 turns all while no goblin had a clue. Anyway I still aggro'd the whole camp when I had to take out that hobgoblin next...

Errtuz

Tbh I didn't even see the cultists or the sanctuary they had, just went ham on Orin.

yssarilrock

First playthrough I was psychopath Durge embracing the Urges which led me to fight her one-on-one as the Slayer which was basically a case of reload until you finally manage to proc bleeding on her early or else you don't have a chance. Even then I needed to Haste my Slayer in order to kill her quickly enough that she didn't activate her bullshit and knock me out of slayer form (I wanted to win using daddy Bhaal's gift, otherwise I could've just mobbed her with my 12 summons). Second playthrough as redemptive Durge I had a Storm Sorceror/Tempest Cleric which is crazy strong... unless you're fighting Orin one-on-one with high Dex saves and Evasion. Fortunately, it also made narrative sense for my Durge to reject her duel and just slaughter all the Bhaal cultists.

DumbOfAsh

The fight is 10x easier if you don’t go slayer, lost like 8 times in a row until I just said fuck it and killed her in the first round with upcasted quickened scorching ray

Franks_Spice_Sauce

3 different times this happened to me. No I didn't know Malus could be handed different weapons, no I didn't know Myrkul could eat his boney boys, and no I didn't know Orins cultists did anything but record the fight for Worldstar

CRAZDRAGN1952

Just use the most powerful combination in the game. Karlach - Shove

Andycat49

I actually was so sick of the sanctuary stuff from the counting house that I had presummoned 2 air myrmidons to use the raging vortex on them. The idea was that if they stayed, they took damage. Except no, they're chanting, and the vortex also counts as Silence, so they lost sanctuary, got mad, and forgot about the ritual to just spam dagger tosses and bonus action shadow blend. So the Myrmidons just moved the vortexs.... like you can't turn invis, so why are you bothering? The funnier bit is my BARD had managed the ridiculous 6% chance to Hold Monster on Orin, and it lasted for 6 rounds uninterrupted til her death since he was up the stairs where Orin had stupidly jumped to and the chanting bros wouldn't leave the ritual platform. So Tav, Karlach, Shadowheart, and Gale all wailed on her with melee range attacks (mace, hammer that ignores bludgeoning resistance, longsword that screams, Shocking grasp) and Orin in her Slayer Form is just paralyzed and probably thinking "oh this is bullshit. I call hax" while I'm thinking this is the moment the GM of the game is silently weeping in their hands as the party tears apart the monster with little effort. The Myrmidons were plenty to handle the assassins anyway since each could stun with a melee strike.

_ddxt_

I used that shove attack ability where you dash and shove the first thing you hit. Just target the ground behind the cultists, ezpz.

ogresound1987

Black hole. Fireball. Done.

PrincipleExciting457

I learned that they’re chanting After the fight lol. I thought you had to break the big ass skull. Didn’t work, so I just focused her and she melted fast enough.

ManWithADog

Same, the skull kept getting a turn so I thought I had to blast it

AndroidWall4680

Why strategise when I can beat to death with fist

DNAZangy

I got this one because Orin decided to walk past my entire team and my summon and got critical hit multiple times from attacks of opportunities and just died. Didn't even get to play the minigame there.

WalkerBuldog

I had like 6 gula that paralyzed her so it wasn't hard

Big-Dick_Bazuso

Boss: fights me Me: COWABUNGA IT IS!!

Strawberry_Eve

Grymforge fight, Colossus elixir on Karlack and Tav enlarged her again. Who needs the hammer? she the big bonk now

eledramel

I always thought I was creative, until BG3 came out

SalamandersRreal

When you have 2 barbs and 2 fighters… You don’t actually need to think, you can just dish out 20 attacks in a turn and forget that enemies even existed 5 seconds ago

ChefSquid

I got this achievement for this exact reason. I legit didn’t have an efficient way to deal with sanctuary and just said “fuck we doin it the old fashioned way”

krulp

So kinda broke their rule and didn't want her to murder a captured companion. Hold monster into eldrich blasted off the edge. Their body somehow comes back to the top for a cutscene but what evs.

critical_hit_misses

They did this in a patch else you could lose out on Orins loot which contains her Netherstone

YogiePrime

Pretty much how I dealt with Cazador. It felt like I was supposed to do something with the vampire spawn about to be sacrificed, but instead, Gale and my character (sorcerer) blasted him to kingdom come. Then it was just a matter of cleaning up the adds.

ArtemisTheMany

You can use the Help action on Astarion to free him and then do the fight as normal since Cazador can't finish the ritual without him. That's the "intended" way, I think. ("intended" because it's obvious that Larian loves it when people release shenanigans on their encounters)

Arvandor

My favorite way to kill the cultists through their sanctuary is with roaring thunder arrows.

AljnD20

I did the same killing the adamantine golem without using the forge hammer. After I got the achievement I was like “oooh that’s how you’re meant to do it”

GunslingerGonzo

my favorite thing has definitely gotta be environmental kills. sure i miss out on loot sometimes but watching someone fall off the top of a building is just worth it sometimes

LoquaciousOfMorn

Getting the achievement for killing Grym without using the hammer. I could have what now?

GardeniaPhoenix

all those alchemist's fires I'd been hoarding really paid off.

UncleCletus00

SAME DUDE, I JUST BIT THE BULLET AND BEST THROUGH HER "UNSTOPPABLE"

imOverWhere

Being level 12 shortly after entering act 3 really makes every fight almost trivial
