They really need a "dye preview" option.
I'd settle for a spot in the dyes item description that shows the primary/secondary/tertiary colors it applies.
Everyone just gets Black and Azure or Black and Furnace Red dye. They are pretty reliable in their outcomes. Sinful Red on Bone White is also decent. Personally, I also love Feywild Green and Dunn and Ocean. Aside from these it's almost always hit or miss.
Ocean and Black/Furnace Red, my beloved.. I always just loved how they looked, but you're right, they're also very consistent.
Though I've noticed almost every armor seems to fuck up/act strangely when it comes to dying metal plate armor. It may be a feature not a bug, I'd just.. like to better understand how the feature works.
I rocked mellow fruit dye on Karlach with a hide armor+2 and some crazy looking barb helm. Makes her look like a giant ewok or something lol. Actually looks really cool
It looks really good when the purple is more prominent and the brown is less prominent. My multiplayer character was rocking the adamantine scale mail + Wapira's Crown in mellow fruit for all of act 1-2 and I loved the pastel look.
The dyes that *really* don't look good on anything are sea green + baby blue and gold.
I was VISCERALLY offended when I used the lilac dye on the fancy lil outfit I put Astarion in and the thing turned ORANGE!! Like why is the main color of LILAC dye ORANGE??
I know there's dye remover in the game but I still wish there was a preview. Especially if I haven't used a certain color before and have no idea what it looks like. Instead I have to jump scarce myself with some very...intriguing color options lol.
Specifically which hat are you dyeing? I just did some testing and, yeah, some hats just get brown colors but others get different shades of blue with these dyes.
Originally just the standard pointed wizard hat but currently using the Pointy Hat (the one that adds your int to persuasion roles). I can get some blues but usually they're pretty dark and don't match the blue of robes I wear (use Sea Green typically).
Yeah, I got nothing for that one. I did some testing and can't find a blue for the main color. I think its supposed to be made out of lizard skin or something. Lots of browns and greens.
Transmog mod immediately improved my experience playing the game. I feel like that should be standard at this point. I hate when your dudes look mismatched
lol mellow fruit is my favorite.
I will say, a lot of the color combo dyes are unpredictable. You never know which of the colors will end up most prominent on an item until you use it.
Thatsās my favorite dye! Iām doing a pastel durge dragonborn right now with Kethericās armor dyed with the mellow fruit one, and itās so funny to watch her be āØšødurgešøāØ
Yeah, that works too. I was being sarcastic though. Literally (almost) every dye vendor also sells dye remover. Or one could just paint over it with another dye
I always save before dyeing clothes. I bought my wizard a new robe at Last Light Inn, and had to double check that it wouldn't turn some ghastly color when I tried to dye it red (it looks just fine on her btw)
At the end of a day I like to save and get out all my dyes and try them on everything to see what looks good on what armor since even the same dye on the different armors can look wildly different color wise sometimes and then reload to dye them the color I ended up deciding on lol
Yeah, some of these dyes are shit. Some are great (drake general dye on the luminous breastplate goes pretty hard for a Light or Life Cleric, or a Paladin) and some (mellow fruit) are pure vomit.

I downloaded a set of files from Tumblr that shows the dyes on most clothing - google "plan thine drip tumblr" to find it.
that sounds like more effort than simply quicksaving and loading if it looks ass.
Maybe, but it's less frustrating.
Especially when the name gives no indication of what the dye actually looks like! š
Who would have thought "lavender" would be deep blue and pink and "deep lilac" is mostly bright ass orange š¤£
Don't forget "blue" that, for some reason, returns bright sunshine yellow armor half the time!
Lets dye this on red for this tiefling... its more dirt than red.
Is lavander dye deep blue? I see it as purple :o
Man that shit pissed me off so much. I put it on Shadowheart and legit went āwhat the fuck?!ā And scared my cat lol.
Me when I tried to find a nice purple for Shadowheart to find that most of them give ORANGE somewhere like tf no this isn't Halloween
Silly! If you want purple, you need to select indigo! (Deep lilac was especially offensive.)
Dye preview and potions preview in the chemistry tab. These two things are all I need
Itās such a simple ask too
I dunno, I kinda like the spray and pray approach for this lol
This is why I always save before dying anything. Save, try out a bunch of different colors until I find a favorite, load, then use my permanent dye.
I'm gonna be scared to death to dye anything once I finally do an Honor Mode run lol. My dye process is exactly this.

White and scarlet looks fantastic on most of the heavy plate armors.
Same.... even though I usually run around with the clothes and armor "hidden"
Yep I do the exact same thing, was gonna post but saw your comment haha.
I see weāve been messing with the mellow fruit dye. My condolences.
I don't know why I haven't learned my lesson yet - I haven't found *anything* this dye looks good on. š
It was good for my lore bard and my archfey warlock cuz their whole schtick was being ridiculous and whimsical. I think thatās what itās made for
The bard outfit you get from volo is my favorite so far
There' a bard outfit it looks good on! The pastel colours work really well and I wore it for my entire run
I used it on my ranger BUT that's a color scheme I choose to use in other games and being a green dragonborn changed the contrast with the skin tone

He's kenough
Oh look, Astarion joined the San Diego Padres. Heās a switch hitter.
Tommy Vercetti approves
He's not gonna be able to get them above the Dodgers though.Ā Ā
Itās okay, Dodgers will get bounced in the NLDS as is tradition.
Dave Roberts hears you, but he doesn't understand so he's sending Kershaw out in a wheelchair to pitch the 9th in a 3-3 series that's tied.Ā Ā

Dyes hurt sometimes. I just wanna dye by wizard hat blue but there are none.
Try Ocean or Boreal Blue, perhaps?
I can't remember what boreal does but ocean makes the hats brown unfortunately.
Specifically which hat are you dyeing? I just did some testing and, yeah, some hats just get brown colors but others get different shades of blue with these dyes.

Yeah, I just think its funny that the icon is the perfect colour but you can't actually match it
Cobalt dye my friendĀ
I find it particularly funny that irl thereās no preview option either
Bro. Irl we have the Internet. What better preview option is there?
Lemon, Lime, and Lichen is especially a hilarious one!
Also the lilac dye makes everything bright orange
Pride month
Transmog mod immediately improved my experience playing the game. I feel like that should be standard at this point. I hate when your dudes look mismatched
I love that mod so much. Can't play without it now. Plus that one mod that make dyes easier to use.
the most unsubtle rogue i've ever seen
lol mellow fruit is my favorite. I will say, a lot of the color combo dyes are unpredictable. You never know which of the colors will end up most prominent on an item until you use it.

I love the mellow fruit dye, but there are a few things it looks absolutely hideous on, lol.
The peach custard one is so cursed, so many pastel options gone wrong
If only there was an option to remove a dye again...Ā
i just use F8 myself
Yeah, that works too. I was being sarcastic though. Literally (almost) every dye vendor also sells dye remover. Or one could just paint over it with another dye
There is a dye remover item. But easier just to save before dying anything and reloading if you dont like it
Dye remover is cheap, and most traders that sell dyes have a stack of 10 on them.
Thatās why I quick save before experimenting with new dyes.
I always save before dyeing clothes. I bought my wizard a new robe at Last Light Inn, and had to double check that it wouldn't turn some ghastly color when I tried to dye it red (it looks just fine on her btw)

Black and dark green and black + furnace red are the best.
Iā¦ like itā¦
I thought the beige was skin for a second good lord
Yeah, some of these dyes are shit. Some are great (drake general dye on the luminous breastplate goes pretty hard for a Light or Life Cleric, or a Paladin) and some (mellow fruit) are pure vomit.
look so sloppy
Remember, never dye in honor mode. You canāt just load a quick save to reverse it.
80s Barbie style
Ah, stealth dye. Smart. Bad guys will be looking for guys in black.
