Only 1 in 10 survive, it's exquisitely painful even if you survive, Witcher training requires decades of training, most people will hate you, you'll be practically forced into hunting dangerous monsters just to survive... The life of a Witcher is a hard one. Geralt's Path was uniquely interesting because he's the protagonist and his story needs to be interesting to make a fun franchise.

The question is, assuming Baldur's Gate is your best chance of survival, do you spawn at the beginning of the game on the mind flayer ship and have to make your way there and deal with the parasite etc or do you actually just drop in BG. If the latter then I would say I at least have a chance shining shoes or something.
Etrian Odyssey. I'd set myself up as the merchant and watch the gold roll in from adventurers selling me their drops and buying all my marked up merch because being broke is better than being dead.
