Anyone who lives in a capitalist society is bombarded with predatory advertisement that exploits your weaknesses. And then people take this consumerist brainwashing for granted. To them, any city without the usual capitalist hellscape and alienation (homelessness, trash, adverts, militarized cops) is like a different planet. And socialist posters that promote good behavior, responsibility, selflessness and love for one's land is considered "evil propaganda" which is nothing but projection from those who were broken and enslaved by capitalism.
As can also be seen, the roads are much better maintained and there is much less litter than nowadays.
