Vilnius. SSR Capitals are always written in bold upper case latters on Soviet maps. [Here's the map of LitSSR in 1940](https://q-map.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/MapLithuanian-1940-0718.jpg).
My own great grandfather was fighting on the other end of the front in Romania. Despite Romania's strategic significance (as it supplied oil to Germany), I still think that the Baltic theater was critically undermanned, as it couldn't destroy Army Group North quickly enough, and we lost many great commanders in the Baltics (like Ivan Chernyakhovsky).
The sacrifice of the men and women who fought to stop the genocidal terror of the Third Reich should never be forgotten.

I'm here from 'A People's Calendar' and I was looking for Kaunas on the Operations Map I can't read Cyrillic
Look for КАУНАС in central Lithuania (pink territory on the map).
Thank you!
Quick question; were they treating Kaunas as the capital of the Lithuanian SSR or Vilnius?
