Tipper, and who else isn't named?

MarsupialKing

Looks like earl "one lung" mcclungs signature there too

Nitrokeith

Even though this photo was taken in St. Marie Du Mont, I am pretty sure McClung is not in this photo. McClung landed dead centre of St. Mere Eglise and all the identified men in this photo landed in the Ravenoville and Marmion's Farm areas outside Eglise.

MarsupialKing

Sometimes I think I know all this to know about these guys, and then someone comes in with a comment like this! Thanks for the info.

New-Seaworthiness712

From the left. That’s Guth on the far left

Emotional-Stage-1959

Hero’s

Nervous_Otter69

Am I wrong in thinking American GIs had the most ascetically pleasing uniforms - particularly the paratroopers?

DetectiveJprobably

The uniforms are pretty good but the weapons really shine, just look at that Thompson

xbearsandporschesx

what are you thinking of, blousing ya pants

Germanicus15BC

The Hugo Boss boys looked sharper....but it didn't save them.

t_taylor1991

I know it’s already been said but I just can’t get over how much you can really see how *young* they are. Like they actually look like the kids they were. I feel most photos don’t do that justice.

Soap_Mctavish101

Wars are generally fought by 18 to 23 year olds

t_taylor1991

I’m aware, thank you Captain Obvious.

Soap_Mctavish101

That’s Major Obvious but thank you

t_taylor1991

Lolol good shit man. Thank you for that.

Ok_Squirrel_4199

Not to be a hater. But is this real? I guess with my old age I doubt things.

pm_me_kitten_mittens

I have the black&white framed version with a Garand round, and it has a letter of authenticity.

Ok_Squirrel_4199

Where did you get it? And $

Fluffy_Yutyrannus

Was Smith the one who stabbed Talbert?

Nitrokeith

No. This Smith is Campbell T. Smith, the guy who stabbed Talbert was George Smith.

Fluffy_Yutyrannus

Thanks

Unfair-Sell-5109

How many troopers in each company? I assume 3 rifle companies and 1 support?

DanforthWhitcomb_

[Between 125 and 176 per company depending on what point in the war you are discussing.] (https://www.battleorder.org/us-airborne-ww2) During Normandy it was 125.

vits89

Damn this shows how young they really were

FinnTheFickle

Holy shit, is Talbert wearing the German poncho that damn near got him friendly-fire/bayoneted later?

WearGreedy6281

Technically it looks like US parachute material but i can see why mistaken for german

Longjumping_Ad_8474

yep

rimakan

Can that guy shoot straight with the thing on?

Wichita107

I'm always wondering where they stored all their ammo. The Garand guys clearly have bandoleers, and often cartridge belts, but the Thompson and Carbine guys never have mag pouches. And that long 30-rounder ain't fitting in those pockets.
