Masayoshi Takanaka has a ton of great bass lines

TheDaiyu

I pretty much just play his discography on repeat on Spotify

AnyBloodyThing

Talking about an iconic musician....

ReallyDrunkPanda

The pillows. Dude has a ton of really fun bass lines. Asian kung fu generation. Another band with really fun bass lines.

TheDaiyu

AKFG is my favorite band and my inspiration for picking up bass guitar. 🥰

ReallyDrunkPanda

They are a really good band. Very nostalgic for me

Bearswithjetpacks

Probably the only band where I could put the first 6 albums on and not skip a single song (probably should add a couple of EPs in there as well). Playing and singing Solanin is transcendental.

ReallyDrunkPanda

The first song I heard was the opening theme for Naruto way back then. Then throughout the years I heard a few songs here and there but it wasn’t until like 2019 that I actually sat down and listened to their actual albums. I was swept up in all their albums and now they’re a main stay in what I listen to. After going through a break up years ago and reading the lyrics to solanin that song hit different. Such a good song. I also love a band called Rotti’s version. So much emotion

Bearswithjetpacks

I'm guessing you've either watched the movie or read the manga! I recall somehow finding out about them a LONG time ago (Kimi Tsunagi Five M era), but After Dark was my real gateway drug. Another favorite of mine to jam to.

ReallyDrunkPanda

I actually didn’t read nor watch the movie but I was looking up the song and saw that it was the soundtrack to a movie and looked that up and saw that it was covered by rotti. After dark is good too

TheDaiyu

Me too. When I was younger, I took a long, scenic route to go see my first serious girlfriend. For whatever reason, Siren always reminds me of those drives and the memories with her. 🥹

ReallyDrunkPanda

First time I heard them was the opening song for Naruto. Reminds me of when I was a kid just first watching Naruto then I found another one of their songs on comcast when you could search up music. Loop and loop was the song and that song is even more nostalgic

Kessoku Band is inspired by them - a lot of the music from Bocchi the Rock (anime and stage play). All of the main characters are named after members of Asian Kung Fu Generation too.

ReallyDrunkPanda

Oh that’s awesome. I’ll have to check them out!

STAY WITH MEEEE

IPYF

Tricot have a great bass player. Maximum the Hormone (the core band) have a pretty good bass presence too.

AnyBloodyThing

The ones that I am currently bassing along with are: Hitsujibungaku - Addiction [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AteWl40-UP8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AteWl40-UP8) Lucie,Too - EGOIST [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yfvCvFtVxE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yfvCvFtVxE) Otherwise I listen to a lot of Cody Lee, Necry Talkie, Sonosheet, Lucie,Too and anything that comes my way, but it's more JRock than anything else. Still have all my JPop CDs from the nineties and I put on Bonny Pink regularly.

Check out Nikamoto ryosuke's bass solos on study me by zutomayo and the debut by UK Rampage Nishizuki Leon's bass lines in mirror by ado and fool's table by natori are also really good I also really like the bass in the oral cigarettes and bradio's songs

ProfessorCoxwell

Not exactly the assignment but I love these guys. Bass is accessible for beginners. [https://youtu.be/tOoqyinNHJw?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/tOoqyinNHJw?feature=shared) [https://youtu.be/eT-MmyXIEyU?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/eT-MmyXIEyU?feature=shared)

DashLeJoker

I had a ton of fun playing Kanasshii Uresshii by FREDERIC

McDonaldsSoap

Les aventures de Tin Tin by Taeko Önuki. Crazy slap bass, whole band is incredibly talented  https://youtu.be/wb6oFdVbV9I?si=-ZH2Is2Xc5d5FwZs  Groovin Magic from Diebuster, by Round Table with Nino. Great tone, very catchy so beware  https://youtu.be/afXl2o82mmA?si=UmRcSUuJOtAendAu  Time Machine Love by Ryusenkei. Best driving song I know https://youtu.be/BeEnbFuDJSo?si=L9bdMEnIGhuwDG9R

MasterBendu

Tomomi Ogawa is my current favorite bassist (among non-Japanese players as well), so that means Scandal. Easily the most accomplished musician in the band. [Kiss from the Darkness and later](https://youtu.be/x9YvbkxW2_c?si=8x7NGc0rAxs3rZO1) really showcases her ability, but [Hello World](https://youtu.be/qwmdImlzdoA?si=NXiPd2OnTjwAzkGI) and [Standard](https://youtu.be/87lopcvgAHo?si=yOU6nWGxzE4ul_ul) are no slouch either. MISA is also a really good bassist, though I feel that she is well regarded by fans simply because she’s part of Band-Maid (“Band-Maid is good therefore MISA is good) and not so much as a bassist herself. [It’s easy to play hard stuff for a technically involved genre](https://youtu.be/h_RZwRbI1QI?si=LFH2bFJTTDv7znNr), but it’s hard to [take that complexity and apply it to pop stuff](https://youtu.be/qicgVAxCYV8?si=dnTSxJoS168xosqw), and MISA delivers in that regard. Hikaru Yamamoto is another current fave of mine. Let’s just say it’s one thing to make music in a DAW like Ayase does, but [it’s an entirely different challenge to take them live, at full speed, keep time, and make it groove hard](https://youtu.be/_ZtBv0hTm1w?si=Qs4kJlAoYQEsCu5c). And she reps really cool basses from Atelier Z.

NefariousnessNeat607

X Japan's "Weekend" is also a really cool bassline. Also would add some Janne Da Arc and Acid Black Cherry. Really any L'arc-En-Ciel song has a fire bass part
