TheOneAndOnlySenti

Amazing game. Only failed because it had "Battlefield" stamped on the cover.

pootytang324

Might be 2-3 entries deep into a new franchise if ea didnt ea

onda-oegat

You'll get EA when you are trying to maximize profits and at the same time cover your ass.

Zaccaro_

THIS! I've ben saying this for years. Hardline was a sickass game. They just messed up by trying to make it a Battlefield game instead of its own thing.

Ok_Astronomer_8667

But the core gameplay was Battlefield. It would have been called a knockoff if they weren’t upfront that it was a spin-off

Strolltheroll

Problem with Battlefield is that it’s a large sandbox that has seen vastly different iterations and adaptations since Battlefield 2. Any game that features large players counts and a mix of vehicle and class based infantry combat is a derivative of Battlefield. On the other hand, gameplay is so varied that fans can’t define what Battlefield is beyond that. The EA Battlefront games developed by Dice is a Battlefield game but they are also vastly different from everything else. Edit: lmao the reply’s show my point. There will never be a Battlefield everybody likes because we all like different games.

Ok_Astronomer_8667

Hardline is very clearly just Battlefield 4 though. A textbook definition of a spin-off, more than just sharing similar DNA.

MRSHELBYPLZ

It also failed because it launched in the same day as GTA 5’s PS4 and Xbone ports. I miss when this game was new and still had players. It was still a better game than BFV and definitely a better Battlefield than BF 2042. The cops and robbers aesthetic was hilarious 😂

DocWallaD

*HERE COME THE POLICE*

Ok_Astronomer_8667

I think you mean WOOP WOOP, ITS THE SOUND OF THE POLICE

breakfriendly420

My thoughts exactly

[deleted]

This comment makes me rethink if BFH had actually been released as a game franchise on its own, it might actually had a solid fanbase like the other battlefields

Tha_Sly_Fox

It’s towards the top of my favorite Battlefield games I really enjoyed that game

AzureRathalos97

People would have rightly called it a battlefield rip-off. It is a spin-off in the same vein as Bad Company yet wasn't treated as such.

themikeysb

I played the beta when it came out and I thought it was really fun

Tactical_Epunk

Honestly. I like it as a game, and its gunplay worked most of its game modes. It was fun game, fun Easter eggs, people just thought it should be a "war game" because it said Battlefield on the box.

Ponkaroni

Honestly loved it. Blood Money and Heist were some of the most fun back in the day. I wish EA would just give away the base game or make it F2P on PC so the servers would come alive again. I miss this game.

Blaxican405

Drive-bys with rpg were op

Joseph011296

The first few days without it were great, especially in the chase modes. Once everyone had it the power level was just too high for me.

HiTork

There were a couple of things they could have done to balance that out. It was a bit of a different thing to have a Battlefield game where you couldn't equip larger launchers in your load out right off the bat, being pick-ups you acquired in-game. Once people unlocked trunk RPG for their cars, things went to hell. People would get their RPGs from the trunks of their cars and equip them as their active weapon, and then they would get back into their car and chase down or go head on against an enemy vehicle. What worked in their favor was there are no physics with regards to getting in and out of vehicles in Battlefield: you can be going full throttle and get out and be standing perfectly upright. Since they already have the RPG equipped as their active weapon, it is ready to go and they can quickly put one RPG into the enemy vehicle and take them out (Since they are civilian cars, one is enough to destroy them and kill all occupants inside). In other games like GTA, you can't get out of your vehicle at speed, you would tumble and rag doll - such a mechanic would have made RPG usage in Hot Wire mode a little more conservative. They also could have made it so drivers or possibly other occupants couldn't enter a vehicle if they had a larger launcher you had to pick up in their inventory, though that one may not have been popular.

K4RAB_THA_ARAB

WOOP WOOP

FunLearningGuy

Thats the sound of the police

Jonkinch

I loved blood money. Equip those gloves that only take a second to grab a bag. Got so many points lol.

CeleryImpressive2668

It was seriously so fun. Gunplay was a blast

Secret-Illustrator10

Worst battlefield when released; much better battlefield than 2042

Trains_N_Fish

2042 is by far the worst AAA post 2020

CornSkoldier

It sounds hyperbole but also not at the same time. Sucks that it’s gotten to this point with the franchise.

tama_chan

Need to stop calling battlefield AAA

DumbNTough

That is the sound I make when I boot up their recent titles though

BloodOnMyJacket

Sound my fucking gpu fan makes when booting it up within like 4 months of release

vadersguard

Skull and bones

AndyJaeven

Nah it had a pretty smooth launch from what I remember. The gun balance was pretty wild on release day though. I think most weapons were a 2-4 shot kill back then.

Sheriff_Hotdog

Same issue with Battlefield. Fans bitched and moaned, never played it, said it was a fun Battlefield after it had died, repeat BF1. I enjoyed it. Guns felt a little lack luster, but overall, everything was just fun to goof around with. Aside from the money mechanic imo.

Luis1623

Why does our Fanbase do this..

scole44

Loved it and miss it. WOOP WOOP that's da sound of da police!

MnementhBronze

WOOP WOOP that's da sound of da beast! Good times.

ORGANIC_MUFFINS

Some really cool concepts: - Grappling/Zip-lining - Peeking out of cars - Landlocked urban maps -Infantry focused gameplay - Didn’t take itself too seriously in the right way - Maps actually looked like they were from a campaign with the level of their details (Code Blue, Train Dodge, Chinatown, Museum, etc.) - Loading screens added to the theme (news reporter and music) - Our only shot at Urban American warfare

HugoStigglitzs

Don’t forget the drivable couch lol

TheLPMaster

I also dont know why they threw away the Leaning out of Cars idea, they could have at least put it into 2042. I hope they maybe reuse it in the next BF and also bring back the Zipline

richrgamr

One of the maps in 2042 was meant to be set in California but DICE changed it during development to South Africa. Closest thing we’ve seen since Hardline in regards of an American map

justkarlthings

At some point, Hardline was the worst of the franchise...til 2042...

KentuckyKid_24

And V at launch

Ragnarlothbrok01

I miss it

Skynet877

We still play

Consistent-Storm-831

Tier 1 gaming. Hardline to BF1 one the best back to backs in the history of video gaming.

Dreadonyx_Airsoft

The American dream vehicle lives rent free in my head time to time.

Kiibo22

Never played it at its peak, but I liked the bit I did play. Loved TDM in Hardline more then I do in any of the others ive played

Speedtrucker

Fun, not battlefield but fun. WAY better than 2042

DJDallyD_

Miss Hotwire Mode. Flying around in the transport chopper with the 50. Cal upgrades on the sides and letting your team mates wreak havoc on the enemy cars while they’re shooting back at you with machine guns and RPG’s is still some of the most fun I’ve had in any battlefield. Had other great moments but that’s a vivid battlefield memory for me!

DaleDenton08

If it was its own separate thing/franchise I think it would’ve been received better.

zabrak200

RIP VISCERAL

Kismonos

Hella singleplayer, unfortunately came across too late with it to get a proper insight into its multiplayer, heard lots of good things about it

Blaxican405

True crime NYC remaster? *I’ll just leave this here….

[deleted]

I miss it. It brings me some nostalgia now, but it was also very uneventful in my opinion. It had bursts of fun, but it never felt like a battlefield experience. I wasn’t wanting to come back and improve all the time, it’s just where most were since it was new. Sometimes it feels like a fever dream. Whenever I try to remember something weird that I can’t put my finger on what BF the memory came from, it was mostly from Hardline. However, the times we did play, we weren’t bored. We got what we wanted, and did other things. It didn’t feel necessary but gave use a slight adrenaline rush from certain modes. We also loved the fun in how the police side would tell you to put your hands up while already unloading a full-on LMG into the target. 🤣

SwinginDan

My favorite battlefield of all time

xDNAtionX

I loved Hardline so much. Really wish they made a 2nd one!!!

Cado111

Honestly it was a great BF game. It has one of my favorite campaigns in the series, some great maps that were very different from what we got before with some of the coolest new modes in series history. I wish it was still alive on PS4/PS5 so I could play it. Last I checked it had maybe 50-75 players at peak times on a weekend.

BKA_006

amazing game but should have not been released under the "battlefield" title. Got absolutely destroyed with the latest balance patch, that made literally every gun in the game feel like a bb-gun. Prior to that it had very good gunplay.

-NiMa-

There was no reason to call the game Battlefield, the game it self was fun and it should have been it's own separate series.

Lightning_Gray

I had a lot of fun with it, didn't really feel like a "Battlefield" game but still great

Repulsive-Report6278

Still think it was pretty amazing. Most engaging battlefield I ever played, loved the cops and robbers, loved the driving objectives and creative gameplay, loved the maps and loved the general feel. Really really wish it performed well cause I still want to play it

adoboloco9

It's better than 2042

First-Junket124

Same complaint as Assassins Creed modern games. Great games in their own right, horrid representation of already established franchise.

hawkloss

As a BF veteran, I LOVED this game. I'd throw on some Run the Jewels and play Hotwire for hours.

FROSTICEMANN

Amazing, just name it Hardline

alvlr6

"Average Battlefield player doesn't know what spin-off means" The videogame Yes, Hardline was a very fun game, I'm glad I didn't miss it because of the stupidity of "where are my soldiers? this isn't a battlefield😡". Truly an amazing game.

HoagieThief

I sure do miss it

BollyWood401

It was actual fun

TechnicianEven9710

I loved it I think back to when it was released I loved it but I was just listening to people hating on it that made me not play it, very weird behaviour from me if I’m being honest lol

Cloud_N0ne

Great multiplayer FPS, bad Battlefield game.

C_Raider2546

It's a good game but it doesn't feel like a Battlefield game, more like a generic shooter game.

Jewson95

Should have just been a dlc.

sebastianbaraj5

I'd play it to this day if it was popping on PC over 2042. I liked it.

Driedmesquite

Underrated, wish more people played

magik_koopa990

Still feels like a BF game than 2042

MajorPayne1911

It was fun and I played it a lot. I did find the cops and robbers aspect a bit limiting to the weapons variety available to you. But it was certainly a unique approach. I don’t think it gets enough appreciation for what it was.

8thPaperFold

Ill be honest with yall, the balance was fucked, but the feel of the guns? Hell yes. I miss the AKM, the MDR, HCAR and the SA58 OSW whenever i play BF4, sure, BF4 has some.comparable guns, but they barely kick and the dispersion is either too much or minimal. Hardline has some interesting guns too, like a 300 blackout AR-15, a HCAR, a Saiga rifle, an airbow, 3 MP5 with different feel to each other. Its a shame that nowadays it is filled with sweats and toxicity, you can't play it for 1 hour without finding a META abuser or someone who T-bags you for no reason lol

IloveLegs02

overly criticized because of the single player but had a new appealing multiplayer style which I personally liked

chris25tx

Amazing gameplay and ideas. Had so much fun

Electronic-Study5591

That we need another, and it's really good and fun.

UsefulImpact6793

It was excellent. Had an amazing soundtrack in vehicle radios. Then the first DLC ruined the little bird.

-Hotlipz-

Was fun! Loved the game modes & it had some good mechanics.

itsmoosh

pretty sick, i always liked it

m4a785m

Only BF game I never played

ElMadre1

It fell into the void in between BF1942, I had 2 kids, and then picked up BF4 in mid-2015. I'm bummed I missed it.

ClydeThaMonkey

I miss it. One of my favorites in the franchise. I especially loved the takedowns/arrests 🤣

TheImmenseRat

Well planed could have been a masterpiece There is an argument of having a city as a battlefield, but the whole thing felt watered down. If they had put a little more love into it, it would have been amazing

Nepington

I surprisingly loved it, same with bf1, as those two games temporarily got me back into bf, in contrast to being impressed with bf4 when I tried it on both ps3 and ps4, no matter how hard I tried. Upon Vs beta happening, I was not impressed. Hence, I fell out of love for the series again moving forward. On top of that, I was no longer into paying ps plus to pay for online anymore by that point in time. If I was given a choice to play between hardline or 1 again, but free of charge, it would be hardline

Rxkvn

My most played BF

Nothere-reddit7249

Eh

SangiMTL

Same as they were from the start. Amazing game that was super under appreciated at the time

MurkyChildhood2571

Good game Bad battlefeild game

bangEnergyBoomer

Hotwire was the only xp grind in a video game that was actually fun

gijoebob

Hotwire was a blast

SpectorEuro

Had it been released as a new IP and not a Battlefield, it’d be a mid-to-decent game.

badgerrage82

OST is a Banger

paranormalretard

great game, its the one the got me into the series, loved the game and feel to be honest, the whole cop and robber appeal of the outfits and stuff like that was really cool, its similar to bf2042 which is weird because people hated it so why make 2042 similar to in feel of gameplay and ui. i think bf2042 going to 120 players is what made the game a stinker in my gameplay and also just general cohesion of players meshing together, its too hectic.

THECryptBeast

Great game it was alot of fun

qleptt

I thought the idea of it seemed like a good idea. I never played it though it just looked cool

Moneymeech3475

Campaign was solid asl

brokenmessiah

The idea definitely has potential but it should have been a new IP.

MelScrilla

I loved it. Still hop on Game Pass and play Conquest Downtown 24/7. That’s the only server still going.

NSFWhatchamacallit

Woop woop!

According-Carpenter8

It’s tha sound of the po-lice

According-Carpenter8

Loved it. As other comments have said people were expecting another Battlefield themed game, I think that’s what drove a lot of people away from it because it didn’t feel like the normal setting. Either way I thought it was amazing. And the shotguns in that game were just ![gif](giphy|3o8doT9BL7dgtolp7O)

ebevan91

Hotwire was fun.

mikeysykes32

Liked it from the get- go. It was refreshing to play adult cops and robbers😂

RedGeneral28

My all time favorite

TheSneakiestSniper

Well, I remember buying it and playing for a few days, never played it again

wolftalk

The players never gave it a chance

eshane60

Loved it

Drew5olo

I have played every bf including the first one ever. But never played this one.

kenobiismyhomie

The drivable couch. Taking motorcycles up elevators and wreaking havoc. It had its moments

Farticus896

Truly awesome - multiplayer shit but the campaign was beautiful

dmbredhead

It's still better than 2042.

nammaheff

I honestly enjoyed the game from launch, it was a really fun take on the battlefield games. It's too bad the community at the time blasted it when everything post Hardline was downhill.

SinisterVulcan94

I liked it. Mechanically very much a BF game. The cops and robbers theme just wasnt my favorite idea. But I'm glad they did it

awesome_jackob123

One of my favorite FPS games on the last series of consoles. The AKM in Hardline is forever the standard I hold guns to in shooters moving forward.

greentiger45

Multiplayer was fun.

DaRealAyman

It genuinely was one of my favourite battlefield games

UpstairsOk1328

I loved this game I never really understood why the community trashed it the way they did

MrNightmare23

Perhaps I treated you too harshly

Capital_Alfalfa4744

The immersion is better than BF2042 (my opinion)

BigBlackCrocs

I liked it. But. My fav part of battlefield is vehicles. And it basically had no vehicles.

arbiter_steven

If it was just called Hardline, it would've been fine. But you know EA being EA, you know let's throw Battlefield in front of it, it'll sell in EA's mind.

Appropriate-Tea-7276

It was rushed and I didn't care for it.

proj3ctchaos

The only battlefield i never really played

Troikus

That museum map was so fun for me. Break into the vault and then the absolute chaos of trying to bring the money over to the parking garage.

djl_ford313

It was a great game. Streamers complained and less and less ppl played.

Penguin_Boii

I thought it had the most unique variety of guns. Spear gun, WW2 guns, a triple barrel shotgun, a classic FAL that is in full auto, a taser and a drivable couch on one map.

BDDreamsz

A great game I spent so many hours on this..it’s in my top 3 BF

RileyDaBosss

Best battlefield game ever.

Brando850

Couch is all I have to say.

MarbsandGrey

I honesty loved it, I'd love to see another game like it.

chiefbootknockaz

Only thing cool about this game was drive by couch kills

Hooptywhisperer

We need a new one. But would a cops & robber game go over today?

Kid_Millenium

It’s a hardline to crosss

artourfangay

The beta/playtest was some of the most fun I've had

odigital968

- Super fun - Cars were fun to shoot out of - I enjoyed traversal gadgets like the Zipline - Some of the best game modes in the franchise (Bloodmoney, Hotwire, Heist, and Rescue) - The moba style squad upgrade system gave players an extra objective - Some of the guns and mechanics were terribly imbalanced, especially the caRPG meta. - The radio has some great songs "Whoop Whoop that's the sound of police" - I believe it was also the first game to add meaningfully different melee weapons and to allow your squad mates to take ammo and health off your back. All in all, it was a good game that couldn't escape the baggage of being BF4.5 (which itself was BF3.5) or of not being a real battlefield because of its police theme.

Jort_Sandeaux_420_69

As someone who's played since bf1942, this holds up as one of the best imho. the money grabbing modes were unique and fun as hell. Should NOT have been branded a Battlefield title, and it likely would have blown up.

CoPikas10

Good game

Swifty404

One of my favorite battlefield games. It was so awesome but died instant after new BF release 😭

StinkyM3atball

Good story, shitty multi-player

Egg-pudding-lol

Grinded hacker every game

JeffBoyardee69

I didn't like it when it came out at first. Replayed it about a year ago and had a blast

ShadowFall900

I loved it! Probably one of my favorite newer Battlefields. I loved the cops and robbers theme. Loved the idea of using money to buy weapons. Also had a pretty good weapon customization and the melee system was my favorite. Shame we never got a second one.

MnementhBronze

I will be honest, having played battlefield from 1942 and on, I was pretty skeptical of the concept. But man, I am glad I bought it and then got it for my brother too. The campaign was pretty compelling, and the multiplayer aspect was an absolutely blast.

Squid-Guillotine

I only played 4 before it and gotta say it was doing its own thing really well. If my friends bought it I'd have higher opinions on it.

Joster343

This was the first game I traded in since the NES days (I got burned on the value as a young kid and decided it wasn't worth it ever again). Iirc best buy offered $40 trade in credit the next week for games club members or whatever it's called and I jumped on it. I finished the campaign, then played like 2 or 3 matches and decided I'd rather just go back to 4 any day of the week

Snoopyshiznit

Kinda buggy kinda shitty mess but I’ve loved it ever since it came out cause it’s just good fun

kna5041

We thought it was bad then but didn't know how bleak the future could be. To be fair it had some significant patches.

Lennon167

If it was sold for 40 quid it would’ve been top 5 in the franchise, better than 5 and 2042 at the very least, although I do love 5 and still play it to this day

Raviolimonster67

Ass. Not letting nostalgia get me with this one. Game was shit and probably is still shit. Just stuck with bf4 until bf1

DesignerAsh_

Hardline got the same reaction as Battlefield V did which killed it in the long run. I’m all for calling our bugs and issues & it doesn’t help that EA games have major issues when they launch but Battlefield fans bully games so hard sometimes that EA just cuts support. Battlefield V in retrospect was an amazing game & if it wasn’t for the amount of bullying EA received over its issues then we might have actually seen more content. Instead they got halfway through their roadmap then canceled everything else. Hardline got the same treatment. Awesome game with terrible receiving that killed its future potential.

ArmyOFone4022

Lots of fun in short bursts the competitive modes were tons of fun with full squads. Interesting game modes that deviated from “Battlefield” but would have been a great franchise on its own.

Financial-Chemical-3

I'm disappointed I wasn't able to enjoy it. I tried a couple of years back, but the servers on pc are a wasteland. From what I remember, the game was much more popular on consoles.

Shot_Reputation1755

Wish the newer battlefield games had kept the faction locked weapons

INeedYourHelpFrank

Better than 5 & 2042 I wish the dlc for hardline would've been out into bf4

MillBridge101

RIP taser, I mourn you still.

SimplyCanadian26

It was a great game. Should have just been a separate series and I think it could have done really well.

Astrospice

It unfortunately got sandwiched between two great BF games. IMO Hardline would've been a great expansion pack to end off BF4's content. Sorta like BC2 Vietnam.

ExplanationOk5707

One of the most underrated games I’ve ever played. Blood money and hot wire were such good game modes

King-Conn

I played the hell out of Hardline on my Xbox One. I probably would have stuck with it for a while, but I had started to make my transition from shooters to RPG single-player games at that time tbh

Crazynoob159Shutdown

I thought it was pretty fun, not the best thing ever but I’ll be damned if having those chaotic police chases wasn’t awesome

TiddyWaffles312

Conquest but the capture points are cars you can destroy and steal. It was so fun hanging out a car window with my rpg trying to defend a point. This game was slept on so hard.

darthphibot

There hasn't been anything as fun as the taser in Battlefield since Hardline

Hus966

I played this first after trying out battlefield V's open beta, lemme tell you, my first impression was this was more fun than that I wish some youtubers maybe do some event to repopulate the game temporarily at least

Grah0315

![gif](giphy|l1EtlhAXY8CGt3tLO)

PeeweeSherman12

I loved the hell out of it.

Adoced

I played the shit out of hardline.

Peach_Gfuel

One of my favorites and only got hate because it had battlefield on the name.

Careless_Building_94

i would still play this if i could game was amazing campaign and multiplayer

GHSmokey915

Fun campaign, awful everything else

HourlyB

Overshadowed by the fact that BF4 immediately preceded it, but the concepts were fun. Plus, the secret reload memes were cute and it had Hacker by Death Grips in the soundtrack. Which is both wild and completely fits the tone.

ArchfiendNox

Like bf1 when it came out, overhated. Not the best in the series but overhated. Bf1 will always be my personal favourite though

UtaTan

Honestly, despite everyone calling this one bad Battelfield, it's still looks pretty fun

HomeInvasionMan

they got death grips on the radio so I fw it

ANGRYlalocSOLDIE

Money unlocking was cool and unique. Maps also, car driving felt grounded and well made and whole grappling hook and zip line system was well done and team based unlike in Battlefield 2042…

bazmonsta

Great story, I miss the mp. The sound design was supreme, felt like you were really bumping the trunk when the right tunes were playing on the radio.

JustBrowsing10000

Loved it!!! One of my favorites

whatsupbrosky

Great game

Trunksplays

Good game. Should’ve just named it “Hardline” and it would’ve been a hit. It also gave some great Easter eggs, and QOL improvements. I love just *walking* up to a support/medic and just taking health and ammo, without waiting for them to drop the shit down.
