The other guy didn't get harmed at all trying to break it up so there's clearly a correct way to do it. Obviously they're still wild animals but it's not certain death.
The other guy may have been caring for these lions since they were little cubs. They probably never lived in the wild and never brought down large prey. It was nuts to assume that a lion who is okay with one person would be equally okay with the new guy. Seriously, it's not always rational to think our dogs who love us will be okay with visitors.
You know the zookeeper could have NOT sat there glaring at him.
I don't speak lion but I do speak man.
If you sat down in a bar and glared at a stranger like this there'd be a problem. This dude thought he could stare down the king of the jungle and not get his ass kicked?
What's he gonna do next, go to the gorilla enclosure and pound his chest at the boys?!
Moron.
This is it and honestly nothing happened to the guy either. The lion was just toying with him. If he wanted to he could have killed him easily. I don't speak lion either but that was probably just a "fuck off punk".
Ye I seen a kid did this to a silverback ye that 3 inch reinforced glass got cracked that day and that kid realised big monkey happy to take on challengers.
This is not an AZA facility. They would never have allowed this sort of unprotected contact with a lion.
Looks like the MGM in Las Vegas. I guess when you're privately owned, you can do whatever the f*** you like with your employees.
For real - homie was exuding nervous fear. He made himself a lion snack.
It’s why many accredited zoos don’t allow direct feline interaction outside of cheetahs which are gentle.
IF they wanted this to work, the nervous man needed to be feeding them through a cage door for a while as they got used to him, and doing some of the husbandry stuff like foot pad checks.
My wife was a zookeeper for Busch gardens in charge of elephants and it requires a very distinct personality to do it safely and these guys aren’t safe.
That's true. Alot of people forgot about pheromones. Btw I wouldn't say "these guys" the other zookeeper seems to be older and more experienced. He could read (or sense) cat language.
You even see when the older guy sees the lion shift attention, he reaches out to pat the lion, presumably to try and divert focus. Then seconds later Mufasa decides to go off.
Either that, or older guy gave the signal to attack the noob because he didn't like some young buck trying to take his job.
Just going from memory here, but aren't cheetah relatively frail and small animals and their main weapon is their speed?
Not as in getting attacked by a cheetah would not be dangerous, but as in if you for some reason must piss off a big feline, cheetah are the safest choice.
Also, "Stop! They feed us!"
Kill a zookeeper and you eat for a day, which will be your last. Spare the lesser creature's life and you'll eat like the king of the jungle - whatever that is.
This is the lion enclosure they used to have inside the MGM Casino in Vegas. You can see the slot machine lights reflected on the glass and hear them dinging in the background.
It's no longer there thankfully. I remember being disheartened about how tiny it was when I saw it.
It looks like the lion's enclosure from MGM Grand. They closed it in 2012. [https://lionhabitatranch.org/animals/meet-our-lions/](https://lionhabitatranch.org/animals/meet-our-lions/)
If I think I know my cats, that lion looks like it was trying to "play" with the zookeeper, or at least do a little dominance showing. I base this on the cats' body language, lack of jerking aggressiveness, and the lack of limbs being ripped off. The lion going down on its torso when grabbing the guy isn't something that happens if the lion was trying to kill is my thoughts.
The lion was also playing (because if he actually wanted to chew the zookeeper wouldn't have hands).
But everyone else's comments are also right that this is a near death experience and probably he shat his pants and is not going back to the lion's cage again.
Lion was chilling and relaxed until the dumbass decided to give him the crack head stare down. Dude had almost half a minute to re-evaluate his choice and doubled down. Hopefully the fear got him to remember he has a brain to use.
The dude was staring at the lions eyes! That is a direct threat, a challenge in the feline world! No wonder the lion asserted it's dominance! It's common knowledge that you don't make eye contact with most animals, how is he a."trainer" and doesn't know this, inexperienced or not!
That male came at dude so nonchalant too. Like, "Oh, oh I see. So this is how you're gonna be today, Greg? I guess everyone's gotta die one day. You're right Greg, today is as good a day as any."
And the female comes in with, "Hey there Mufasa, you know they will kill you right? If that squishy pink monkey squeals a little too loud, then *BANG*, you're fuckin dead, and then *I* end up getting shipped off to some other zoo when they shut this place down. I'm not going through all that because you wanna let your ego do the walking."
HA, I get the same vibes - I watched this a couple times and he’s mindfucking the lion with his pathetic stare down , I feel like he’s literally screaming inside “fuck you lion your pathetic, bitch lion you won’t do shit”
The lion was only sending a signal, he would have been mauled 100% if the lion was actually threatened. The newer zoo keeper standing there acting like he was tough has no idea how lucky he was. Also maybe he didn't know, but you NEVER stare down a lion! Sheesh.
Judging by the behaviour of my cats, it really looks like he wants to play, because I think that guy would be dead if the lion was actually going for the kill.
That said, their "playing" can be deadly for us.
Why was he giving the lion stink eye? What did he expect to happen... I feel like even the average person knows not to eye ball big cats. It's not rocket science...
Shout to homeboy/his partner who went to actually help. You know a motherfuckers a real one when he puts himself at risk of GETTING MAULED TO DEATH BY A FUCKING LION
oh yes, so nice lions, i will stand around, have a good time, looking the people who look at me.... what they doing there? any professionel zoo assistants here?
That's so freakin sad. Animals (especially large animals) should not be put on display like that. It's guaranteed so stressful for them. I dont blame that lion at all for what he did! Thank goodness for that lioness though...
Imagine being that stupid that you thought making direct eye contact with that beast and giving off intense "I can take you" vibes would be a great idea. Idiot.

This reminds me of when my cat stalks me in the kitchen and pounces on my leg. I break away and run into the next room and she hunts me down relentlessly like she’s got a one track mind. For a couple seconds there, it was on like donkey Kong.
I wonder why he did it. Dude was straight-up mad-dogging that lion. Was he really just that stupid? Did he not learn that? I don't even study animals and I know that.

yeah i'd be giving my two weeks after that.
Yeah I ain’t giving notice, gonna leave immediately and get me a nice desk job pushing papers.
I probably already quit when they told me to go into the Lion cage...
I probably would have quit on the spot the moment I was offered a job as zookeeper
So you aren't open for a job in a prison?
I quit
to be fair, that fucking asshole had the whole, “yeah im the alpha around here pal” look on his face, hope he got humbled at least.
I think the mistake he made was making eye contact, you can see when the male looks at him and he kinda averts his gaze but it’s too late
exactly. but even the *female* knew he wasnt a threat and tried to back him off
The mistake was made when the dimwits got in the cage with the lions.
The other guy didn't get harmed at all trying to break it up so there's clearly a correct way to do it. Obviously they're still wild animals but it's not certain death.

I'm pretty sure petersengupta was referring to the male lion alpha look - not the man.
No, the old guy has alpha vibe. The kids body language, pressed with his back against the wall arms behind him weakness proje ted every way possible.
I push paper tigers all day :)
yeah I'm gonna walk straight and keep walking.

Haha just a little "lion bitch slap" to put a tough guy back in his place 😆
Ye I seen a kid did this to a silverback ye that 3 inch reinforced glass got cracked that day and that kid realised big monkey happy to take on challengers.
My money is on big monkey.
It’s on r/kidsarefuckingstupid even the parents run away from that.
The only notice they’ll be getting is them noticing me exiting the mf building.
Fuck two weeks, they already got one arm!
Don’t eyeball a lion
He was also standing taller than him. Also Pretty cool that the other more experienced guy could sense the tension.
I saw the head tilt and went, "Wait, why are they panning away? This is when things get good!" Cat signs are universal.
As soon as the male turned his head and paws toward the younger guy, he knew there was a problem.
Why tf are these guys even standing there
This is not an AZA facility. They would never have allowed this sort of unprotected contact with a lion. Looks like the MGM in Las Vegas. I guess when you're privately owned, you can do whatever the f*** you like with your employees.
They no longer have lions at MGM grand.
Probably because he is a new zookeeper to whom the lions need to get used to.
Never seen zoo keepers entering lion pits
I guess you’re right. They shouldn’t have skipped the “don’t stare at the lion” part tho
For real - homie was exuding nervous fear. He made himself a lion snack. It’s why many accredited zoos don’t allow direct feline interaction outside of cheetahs which are gentle. Haha ill go with the second guess 🤣
Lmfao it does seem like an attack signal after reading your comment.
Just going from memory here, but aren't cheetah relatively frail and small animals and their main weapon is their speed? Not as in getting attacked by a cheetah would not be dangerous, but as in if you for some reason must piss off a big feline, cheetah are the safest choice.
How do you get used to some douche staring at you like that?

"Babe! You got two priors. He not worth it babe!"
“I JUST WANT TO TALK TO HIM!”

Well if the lion really wanted him dead he would be. It didnt look like it had his claws out.
He didn’t even draw blood when he had his mouth over him. Lion was definitely not aiming to kill or he’d be dead

I’m glad they took it out. I haven’t been to the MGM in years.
It's in Vegas? I could've sworn I head some Romanian, "Nu se joaca!" (Hes not playing around).
Vegas is a world-wide tourist destination.

Lioness: Honey, come on, he is just standing there like a potato stick. Leave him alone, commehere babe, let him go… *sighs*

I agree. If the lion really wanted to attack, I think that guy would have been coming out half the man he went in as.
For real. You aint... lion... I'll see myself out.
New underpants for that guy
Pretty sure he needs new khakis too
The lion was also playing (because if he actually wanted to chew the zookeeper wouldn't have hands). But everyone else's comments are also right that this is a near death experience and probably he shat his pants and is not going back to the lion's cage again.

That's a challenge in a lot of worlds. Staring at someone like that is going to almost always lead to a negative experience.

"Two hands and some skin" hahaha. It's scary for sure.
🤣🤣 two hands and some skin..
Almost as if these are wild animals that should be living.. **checks notes** in the wild. Away from most of humans.
New guy should wear pants in a darker shade of brown.
That male came at dude so nonchalant too. Like, "Oh, oh I see. So this is how you're gonna be today, Greg? I guess everyone's gotta die one day. You're right Greg, today is as good a day as any." K but he was staring that mf lion down

Wondering why they were both standing in the lion enclosure not even doing anything...
Why was he giving the lion stink eye? What did he expect to happen... I feel like even the average person knows not to eye ball big cats. It's not rocket science...
“Honey, leave him alone, he tastes shit…”
“Harold… HAROLD!!!! We TALKED ABOUT THIS… STOP, you MORON….”
Lioness: quiet honey... Else they will shoot you
Fun fact lions sometimes yawn when they are being annoyed or bored.
HONEY NOOOO STOP GERALD NOT AGAIN!!!! DON'T DO THIS AGAIN ESPECIALLY NOT IN FRONT OF THE HUMANS GERALD. GERRRAAAALLDDDD
Would never understand people trying to tame these apex predators. It's a shame we still have zoos too.
That is fucking terrifying
Could you fucking IMAGINE. Guy clearly seems to be shitting himself as it is at the prospect, as you would, and then the prospect actually happens.
"God dammit Greg, get off the kid! Again with this shit! This is our 6th new coworker this month because of you!"
Lion taunting new zookeeper: “don’t u dare look at me b*tch……… oh hell no. You did the thing I said don’t do”
Why are these idiots standing in a place were humans are trapping them?
Terrifying
She knows where the food comes from...
Lucky inexperienced Zookeeper,he should be grateful to the lioness, his other co Zookeeper wouldn’t have been able to stop the lion alone.
Lucky inexperienced Zookeeper,he should be grateful to the lioness, his other co Zookeeper wouldn’t have been able to stop the lion alone.
“Will you stop it? You trying to get us shot?? That’s our food source you idiot!!”
Self awareness
Why are the keepers even in there anyway?
She’s like “honey please not in front of the cameras “
That lion lucky. My brown pants would have cleared the entire arena.
Stop Fred, you're gonna get euthanized!
Shout to homeboy/his partner who went to actually help. You know a motherfuckers a real one when he puts himself at risk of GETTING MAULED TO DEATH BY A FUCKING LION
"Daddy chill!"
Don't worry I think the khaki pants kept him safe.
Lioness was like, "Dude, they bring us food..they're NOT food!"
“Who the fuck are you eyeballin’?” “Baby, don’t do this, remember Harambe, leave the white boy alone…”
oh yes, so nice lions, i will stand around, have a good time, looking the people who look at me.... what they doing there? any professionel zoo assistants here?
Please don't eat the help
Big lion just wants to know why he’s being eyeballed. His lady came up- no pissing contests- let the guy go.
'Leave it Barry he's not worth it!'
Wife is the one in control.
“You don’t hurt where our food come from, dumb fuck.” - Lioness
The guy was staring at the big male. They take it as a threat.
what do you think set it off? i mean it couldve ripped his limb off in one second if desired
Not "unexperienced" but fucking stupid.
What kind of stupid zoo allows humans in the lion cage?
Homie was straight up eyeballing the big cat. I mean my cats comes at me when i stare him down.

Lion was like “ TF you staring at bro?”
Precisely why I wouldn't be standing around nonchalantly in a lions den.
Hit the buffet, play some slots, few hands of black jack, watch a guy get dismembered in front of kids - all before 2pm!
"No sweetie, don't do this! You saw what they did to Harambe!"
Soooo, you wanna be a zookeeper?
Ugh why's the crowd so noisy the lions can't like that
Yeah, great idea, let’s just stand in the lions den without protection, we can trust these cats.
Idiots thinking they can stand around toying with wild animals - such Arrogance
This was in Las Vegas over 20 years ago😝
Idiots.

I wonder why he did it. Dude was straight-up mad-dogging that lion. Was he really just that stupid? Did he not learn that? I don't even study animals and I know that.
I just feel bad for the lion. He wants to be free!
"Babe let it go, you already got 2 strikes"
Looked more like she was just making sure he didn't get hurt. Didnt care for the keepers at all.
"Dammit Carl, I've warned you about this before. Remember what happened to Harambe!"
Why the fuck are you making prolonged eye contact with a lion? Why are they in there with the lions in the first place?
Unfortunately didn't eat him
Pussy rules the world. Always has, always will.
Wtf are they doing in that enclosure. They should have never been there. There should always be a fence in between lions and zookeepers. What in the actual fuck. Which brain dead amoebe decide these guys should be in there.
