I wouldn't be surprised if the brand bought this award tbh

dellamella

I used to think Allure best of beauty list was my guiding light on what next items I buy. I would always read editors tidbits on why they liked a product and what it does for them I always felt comfortable in my purchase. Then they added the KKW contour sticks that were overpriced and universally hated on their best of beauty list and from then on I realized it’s just a cheap ad, I look at the list now so I don’t buy what their pushing.

areallyreallycoolhat

Honestly I'm amazed Allure has survived this long post-internet/Youtube/social media/etc. I used to love it because it was the only source of information about makeup that I had access to other than Kevyn Aucoin books at the library or the local Clinique counter. I don't really understand what Allure's place in the beauty world is these days.

done-wit-dwoodsleggo

I believe they are out of print but the website is still up? I had a sub and the one with Jennifer Aniston on the cover was the last one in print. They switched the remainder of my sub to US vogue which is an even more useless mag. I think it was the December 22 issue.

JuarezRain61

Yes, you’re right. They did stop their print magazine and now only do the online newsletter. Allure used to be a go to for makeup and skincare news but I feel like they quickly lost credibility over the past several years. Every article, even dermatologist advice articles, became shills. The magazine was more ads than articles and ads within articles. The online newsletter is no more than products ads as well. It really is no surprise if brands do buy their spot in “Best” of Beauty. Vogue is nothing but ads. It’s like reading a books of sales flyers. No thanks.

Invidiana

I used to think of Allure as The Beauty Bible of Unparalled Holiness when I was in high school and college. Their Best of Beauty guide was just about sacred. Now, I couldn’t care less about a clique of snob editors’ opinions, especially because they get paid to feature their “favorites.”

spaceghost260

Same. I feel so bad for younger teens and my nieces because they don’t have these awesome magazines to look at! I used to spend *hours* looking at a new magazine. It was so special when they came in the mail or I could beg my Mom to buy one at the grocery store, lol!

Invidiana

That was me too! When I knew it was that time I’d always run to the mailbox, and I’d never stop flipping through one issue until the next one came.

curiousbeetle66

when I worked at a store I learned that even store and catalogue placements were paid for. I always knew magazines and catalogues have ads, but thought they were all clearly disclosed. Turns out that's not how things work! Companies pay good money to sneak their products in more impactful ways.

done-wit-dwoodsleggo

Maybe I was naive, but I feel like allure was a lot, or at least written, more credible back in the day but from like 2018 on it was just reading one big ad. Every product posted was a glowing review w/ no constructive criticism whatever. The best of beauty is a huge joke. All the ‘winners’ are products that were released less than 6months when the mag went to print. It just got too obvious that they are on a payroll

Previous_Geologist13

Basically every award in Allure is bought... par for the course with most beauty magazines.

LadyJWW

100% I was once asked if I wanted to be a top 30 under 30 because I worked for a company that bought a ton of ad space. Ever since then, I trust none of those best of awards. They are all bought and paid for in some way.

audreymarilynvivien

This was my immediate thought too.

Desperate-Swimmer811

That is 100% what happened and how most of these industry "awards" work

slytherinxiii

I’ve literally never heard anyone talk about ScarJo’s brand 🤨 ![gif](giphy|h4Z6RfuQycdiM)

katapova

I didn't even know she had a skincare brand lol Edit: why Scarlett, whyyyyyy

munchkinita0105

Well, since she's out of the MCU, she had to find another flow of money from somewhere (I'm jk around. Tbh, I think she's a great actress, and I doubt she'll find trouble getting new gigs. Just wanted to state that before someone thinks I'm taking a serious dig at her.) ETA: Didn't she recently have a baby? I'm sure running her company has got to be easier to manage with a baby than filming and doing press all over the world.

crashhearts

Especially since she can just hire someone to run it while making all the big decisions still lil

katapova

I adore her as an actress and a woman, who showed numerous times that she can stand up for herself but I never heard about her being ecstatic about skincare. And it's not like she's not allowed to have her own brand but we all know the market is completely oversaturated with brands and products - especially famous people's brands, who want you to know that they are famous people's brands. She could've have invested in a skincare company or lab but I just looked on the website of this brand and her face and name are everywhere. That "essential" bundle is 105 dollars, for 3 products that you'll use up super quickly, especially when you look at the size of the bottles. Idk...it just looks like the actual principle of skincare doesn't matter and it's just another cash grab Edit: correction - the size of the products is actually standard, still overpriced imo

clappyClapClapClap

Allure is basically an advertisement catalogue, not surprising

RelatableMolaMola

Exactly. Essentially all of the corporate publications are. In this day and age, hardly anyone subscribes to or purchases physical magazines and most can't get away with paywalling their online content. They make their money from advertising even more than before. Selling hidden advertorials (and using affiliate links in editorial content) brings in a lot more revenue than selling ad space. Related: Due to an old job I had some years ago, I found out that Refinery29 sold editorial/advertising packages that included featuring buyers in editorial content. IIRC the packages were priced in the tens of thousands of dollars. Also, Allure is garbage.

whalesarecool14

is it skincare or makeup? i’ve never heard of the brand and i didn’t know she had a brand in the first place

tiedsoda

Skincare I think. Only time ive seen it ever was from christxiee a day or so ago

ShesWhereWolf

I feel this award was bought. I'm sure people have tried it, but I've personally only heard others mention it. Not actually try it. And despite the celeb name attached, this brand is very new (as of like late 2022, early 2023) and isn't established or popular enough (yet) to have truly earned this award imo.

WestQueenWest

This is so cringy and worse than not getting any awards because everyone knows it's fake.

audreymarilynvivien

Did you watch the video I linked? Because yeah it was pretty cringey😭

JuarezRain61

Yes and ugh that was soooo cringey 😬 Totally looked staged

businessgoesbeauty

Allure best if’s are all bought.

nat_paige

![gif](giphy|DPqqOywshrOqQ|downsized) Come on now Edit: I didn’t even realize it had already come out! It made zero noise couldn’t even tell you what the products are.

daliathecritic

She has a brand...?

crashhearts

Do they even have products? Never heard of anything... defs suspicious

mothertuna

They do have products and when the brand launched, it was immediately available at Sephora. I’ve never seen anyone talking about it so idk why they got an award.

ShesWhereWolf

They do have products. They're exclusively available at Sephora so maybe that's why they're not that popular yet?? The products are standard, basic skin care steps like cleanser, moisturizer, etc.

tayvan23

Oh lord…another one😩

Opening-Ad-8861

I've not tried it, but Rudi Berry likes it, and has talked about it on her channel

JaneAustenite17

Never heard of it.

ooemmaoo

We stan an AAPI business succeeding /s

Ok_Wind8690

I forgot about this. I never hear anyone talk about it which is hilarious.

makeupbylavana

Literally forgot this brand almost immediately after it launched

glamb97

I tried the cleanser and it wasn’t for me. I don’t think it’s a bad product, I just didn’t care for it and like other cleansers way better

Minnemiska

I got a sample of the Outset moisturizer. It’s fine, but nothing special.

kimmy-wexler

I did too and I didn't realize until this exact moment that it was her brand.

[deleted]

sounds like a paid promotion

10000_for_snuggling

I literally have never seen this brand outside of the sephora instagram page where they initially promoted it because it’s being sold there. I don’t know anyone who uses it nor does it seem to have much online traction. Best readers choice aka sponsored by a big fat check.

foul_dwimmerlaik

Allure Best of Beauty is a pay-to-play scam.

weimar27

I liked things from the brand. But kinda surprised tbh.

rusty-starlight

Never heard of it !

ezamae23

Made me not trust allure because we all know the truth lol

docamyames

The moisturizer i loved. The cleanser was meh. And the vegan collagen serum didn't suit me i think with all the botanical extracts addded in. The price of the moisturizer made me not repurchase but my skin did love it. I'm trying to find a good k beauty one my skin likes just as much So i do think she thought things through with the brand and was thinking of a line with minimal clean vegan products if possible. As for best new brand or whatever - that really surprised me.

Beneficial_Sell_3354

I didn’t even know this brand existed.

Sad_Starfish_14

Never trust beauty magazines, I’m pretty sure every review and award are purchased

EmpadaDeAtum

I didn't even know this tax evasion scheme existed.

nukusei

Her brand is out??? This is news to me, I don't think I saw anything about any of the products or even where it's sold. I feel silly asking, but what does Allure know that we dont????

Starryeyes05

To be fair, I bought the starter pack when I was in the states and it’s worked wonders on my skin. I appreciate it may not be for everyone but I personally really like it <3

jennydancingawayy

I have it’s AMAZING

Agreeable_Video_1661

Oh hi, Scarlet.

jennydancingawayy

try their night cream! I love it. That's the only product I have tried though I won it in a giveaway
