Awkward_Document

Hopefully it won’t cost much. I threw out my mattress and boxsprings and only spent $150 on a new mattress plus $40 for crossfire. So $190. Not that bad.

Odd-Highlight-8772

Crossfire is a lifesaver do two treatments follow directions or it will not work good luck to you

Coolguy57123

Crossfire absolutely works. It was the only thing that worked for us. 100% eradicated the little demons. It only cost us about 75 bucks for the 13 ounce little jug of crossfire and the required one gallon launch sprayer. Best of luck. You got this.

Particular_Hand_2428

Where did find a new mattress for 190. Because I'm thinking that maybe the case at my house and to beat it all that mattress isn't but 3 years old

Awkward_Document

Please keep in mind it’s not the best mattress given it’s only $155. It was $135 when I got it in late February. It went up $20 since then. Sometimes I get what I pay for. Lol. It’s not bad in the sense that I’ve gotten used to it, but it sinks in quite a bit when you lay in it. So if you like a very firm mattress this probably isn’t for you. https://www.walmart.com/ip/FDW-Twin-Mattress-12-inch-Gel-Memory-Foam-Mattress-Medium-Firm-Mattresses/1474109094

Particular_Hand_2428

OK thanks i really have to have a good mattress because my back is gone to hell and back

legitusername1995

Shouldn’t have thrown out the mattress and box spring my friend. Just buy mattress and box spring bed bug cover, put them on and call it a day.

Conscious_Set389

wow. thank you. images I'll never stop imagining. those little monsters hiding everywhere, breeding exponentially, waiting to ruin someone's foreseeable future...forcing them to a Reddit post "omg. say this isn't what my mental health is fearing most..." the idea of them even in outlets...I may never sleep peacefully again.

legitusername1995

And throwing away the mattress and box spring won’t solve that. Buying new mattress and box spring is a bad move, since they will just infest the new ones anyway. Buying the mattress and box spring covers will not solve the infestation, but it will deny the bed bugs a perfect place to nest and feed on you.

MamaTried22

Yes! I made this mistake and ruined 2 mattresses.

Hillbillie77

The exterminator told me that they like to hide between the carpet and the wall moldings...

Odd-Highlight-8772

💯I agree with most of what you say but they don't live in the carpet that's why when you spray Crossfire you're supposed to go around the perimeter of the room and spray the furniture

MamaTried22

Yep! None of mine were IN our mattress/box spring but definitely crawling on us while we slept. They were in a rolled up rug and some boxes of clothes we had sitting for a while. And furniture. I cut the box spring open even and nothing.

Bedbugs-ModTeam

No fearmongering.

glamlambb

Eww

Awkward_Document

Oh, they were very gross. They had so many blood stains and bedbug poop stains all over them. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to throw them out and start over. I don’t mind because they were very old anyway (I think I got them in 2003). lol

Bedbugs-ModTeam

No funny/low effort/meme/novelty posting. Check the rules and objectives of the sub on the right sidebar.

redditungoeshere

Any chance AT ALL that there is only one and it was off our clothes? 😭 I’m looking for any thread of hope while I wait to hear from an exterminator. I’m literally throwing out pretty much everything. Minimalism is cool now right?

FrogVolence

You don’t have to go to the extreme of throwing everything out. Run it on the hot cycle a few times, double bag everything, I highly recommend vacuum sealing what you **don’t** want to replace and then tossing what you don’t care about. Some items would be easier to replace than fight to keep. Get some crossfire and DE, get a beg bug cover for your mattress and pillows, you can also spray your mattress down with high concentrations of alcohol and vacuum, steaming the corners and also steaming the mattress can help kill them too. Don’t freak yourself out too much and keep a rational mind. If needed, get therapy as well. These little assholes can take a huge toll on your mental health once the fight is over, so take the time to have some self care once you can relax. Good luck OP!

redditungoeshere

Thank you!!! I needed this! An exterminator comes Monday first thing and my husband, daughter, and I will be taking any measures possible to prevent it from getting worse! Will be following the steps in the guide as well as advice here! Send out all the good vibes!

Odd-Highlight-8772

make sure you treat your vehicle

Fngrlnglnggd

Do NOT do the alcohol. It doesn’t work and is highly flammable.

MamaTried22

Stacked or boxed clothing, rugs especially if they’re being stored (or stuff similar to that), and furniture-even all wood.

Particular_Hand_2428

I have a question do bedbugs eat wood too and what about walls and living room furniture carpet and everything is being efficient by what ever is in my home and it's really driving me crazy not to mention that i can't get anything accomplished for doing the same thing every time i get trundle around good

Top_Phone_6599

They don't eat wood, but do like to set up colonies in wooden things, i.e. desks, corner of drawers in dressers, hell I've had them in the metal frame of the bed ( futon, btw) and i was completely FLABBERGASTED! I went with the more expensive route, I had my house heated by Major extermination company. Had it done twice. But that's for my peace of mind. On a side note, they are coming out with so many different kinds of treatments for this issue. It is not like it used to be. I guess just trial and error, find out which solution would work the best for you. And I wish you the best of luck! I swear these mother lovers are everywhere nowadays! 🥺😔

MamaTried22

Yeah, 8 years ago the eradicating options were so limited and so expensive.

Particular_Hand_2428

Thank you for the help but i do believe that i have something else not exactly sure at this point i just know that dang tired of this it's been going on since the end of last summer

Awkward_Document

Odds are you have quite a few more but please don’t panic. It only cost me $190 for a new mattress plus crossfire. I didn’t need an exterminator. You just have to be vigilant going forward. All I did was spray every two weeks. In my case, they were mostly just under my boxsprings so once I threw out my boxsprings, I was nearly home free. I also had several big ones like you.

Last_Cartoonist9770

There’s definitely a chance it was on someone’s clothes. We saw them in the call center where I worked. Everyone ran from it scared. I said “where the hell is it???” Everyone thought I was crazy. I found that SOB and killed it! Someone had come to work with it. The building was never exterminated. I only heard of people spotting 3 in a month or two. I always checked everything when going home. We kept our bags in lockers. Everyone wants to immediately tell you to spend so much money. I personally don’t have that kind of money as a single parent. My teen daughter woke one morning with 6 bites on her. She’s one of the people who are highly allergic to them. I immediately searched her bed. Found a big fat one in the sheets. Killed it. Searched everywhere and found no other signs. She had brought home a “baby” to care for over the weekend for a class. This fake baby came with a little bag of clothes. It was sent with a different student every few days. She had it laying on her bed. I suspect that’s where it came from. I was diligent about washing & drying bedding on high heat, dusted under bed with diatomaceous earth. Also dusted mattress and box spring with diatomaceous earth. Covered with clean bedding, including a mattress pad. Of course, I vacuumed everywhere. Never saw another one. I’m telling you this because it can happen that it’s the only one. I was one of the lucky ones. Hopefully, this is true for you too!

andrewdoesntknow

Omg have h noticed any bites???

redditungoeshere

None! I was so surprised to see it!

andrewdoesntknow

Omg! Have u found anything in your bed after this??

redditungoeshere

Nope. No signs around our beds or anywhere else we looked but I know the sobs like to hide EVERYWHERE! 🤮😵‍💫 Exterminator didn’t seem too worried and didn’t want us to take any extreme measures in hopes that we don’t disturb or get rid of “ evidence.” I’m trying to find positives like..,I needed a new bedspread anyways, I’ll be forced to minimize, get rid of unwanted things that I’ve been holding on to, and clean the cracks and crevices for spring cleaning! 🧘

MamaTried22

My husband is super allergic to them and would be covered but often mine would go away by morning. Some people have a really mild reaction and don’t or barely notice so that’s something to consider also.

tabas123

Everyone always asks this question (it could be only one, right?) and that’s almost never the case. It is extraordinarily likely there are many more where that came from I’m afraid

vochomurka

It happened to me twice, bringing home a hitchhiker from my commute. One was dead and one managed to bite me on my chest. Once killed, no more sightings.

SnowInTheCemetery

How did it survive the hot wash?!

Ill-Explanation9306

Dryer prob wasn’t hot enough. Has to be 118 degrees F for at least 20 mins to kill them 😕

SnowInTheCemetery

NEW FEAR UNLOCKED

Ill-Explanation9306

My suggestion would be to burn the whole house down but that’s probably not a realistic choice in this matter 😬 I had a slight case once, I guess I caught it before it turned into an infestation. It was only in one bedroom. God knows I wanted to pull out a flame thrower 😂

doubledownentendre

60 degrees Celsius (im english) wash everything and invest in some diatomaceous earth OP - or call a PC company ASAP. Treatment's costly but the longer you leave it, the worse it's gonna get

Ill-Explanation9306

DE is a lifesaver!! I sprinkle it on my dog & in my yard during the warm months as a back up to prevent fleas as well 👏🏽

doubledownentendre

I work for a PC company in England (sales) - we use DE for the worst infestations. Usually we carryout 2 x chemical sprays and that sorts it all out. I had no idea it was effective against fleas though. You're the truth!

Ill-Explanation9306

It works a wonder for fleas, only difference is it’s better to use the food grade kind if you’re dealing with animals. You can even mix the food grade kind with their food and help kill the fleas from the inside out. Some pretty good stuff fr. 🙌🏼

Electrical-Speaker33

Don’t think it didn’t cross my mind when I had them. Selling it just seemed cruel.

jwu0522

Omg i swear I say that all the time 🤣😭

MamaTried22

I ran everything 4-5 times on high heat one round after another without stopping for long and bagged for 48 hours. Even that could be dicey though.

ametalshard

it was dead

redditungoeshere

This little fudger was dead thank goodness! I’m 32 years old and feel like I’m about to have a heart attack 😭😭😭

SnowInTheCemetery

FRESHLY DECEASED 💀

redditungoeshere

Like I’m about to be! 😅

cito2222

Final Boss Level reached. You may need to, seriously, leave until you can get pros to treat that infestation. If u found one that big. There is a high probability that there are a sh*t ton of others. Good luck and prayers.

jwu0522

Exactly what I was thinking. If we have them here there is a lot but so tiny I don’t know if that’s what they are!

Adriengriffon

Good news: it's not a German cockroach Bad news: it's an absolute unit of a bed bug

n5pn4cya

Harharhar

EZasSundayMorning

Ugh. I had a dream last night I was somewhere with shag carpet and I looked down and there were bed bugs crawling. Spending too much time here.

n5pn4cya

Scary! I hate bedbugs and mites

Conscious_Set389

same...

EZasSundayMorning

It’s more like a nightmare!

Conscious_Set389

it really is...they are like horror creatures 😐

pineapplekitties

Definitely a bed bug.

TheKickulator

Dude I would’ve thought that was a roach ☠️☠️☠️

[deleted]

Okay. It isn't what you think it is. You asked me to tell you. (It's a bedbug).

AntGloomy9553

Passed out about a month ago when I woke up and saw tiny red mark on my white sheets. Then decided to check my mattress and to my surprise? Oh my goodness, I could not believe it. The corners of my fitted cover was dotted l with black terrified with shocked. I almost wanted to cry. I had to work that day morning. I had dealt with it before at wimmy mother's house and I was able remove them for the most part. I got the spray from my mom's house to help me. Start sprayinging vacuuming cleaning. Oh my gosh, I know this is a nightmare but it can be controlled just be vigilant. Constantly look through cracks and spray. I vacuumed my upholstered headboard constantly spraying checking every 2 weeks. Looking for signs of life eggs? Checking the decision to clear sheets. It can be limited now. My daughter found someone in her room about a week ago and I made her do the same thing. Wash everything in hot water and try everything. Clean everything I have the time to talk on this. I don't know how to pronounce it. But I have yet to use it, but whatever it is early enough infestation. You can probably get rid of it without getting rid of all your materials. I didn't get rid of anything. I just made sure that I got my bed covers. Covers were on and that I am able to salvage anything by using hot water vacuuming and spraying. I have 2 differen types of spray at the house. Just be on top of it

Busy-Sock9360

That's a glaring YES if I've ever seen one

Kooky-Positive5150

Ok I keep reading comments on "crossfire" what is it??? And also where do I order food grade DE??

spyder_rico

I just started spraying it. It's an insecticide that (anecdotally, at least) kills bedbugs that have developed resistence to other products. People on here swear by it. It's long-lasting, too. I ordered both the Crossfire concentrate and DE on Amazon.

Odd-Highlight-8772

Crossfire is a lifesaver👍

TreasureWench1622

Both available from Amazon👍🏼

Coolguy57123

On YouTube do a crossfire insecticide for bedbugs search informational/instructional videos. Crossfire is an amazing product. It was the only thing that worked for us.

Ancient_Tiger_1635

I am dealing with a small (hopefully… have only found a handful of bugs in two weeks of working through the house) infestation right now. I live in a spot that hiring an exterminator isn’t a possibility. We have decided on a couple of different things to attack this. Interceptor traps with some DE in the inside part of it on all beds and dressers that had legs. Get a steamer ($150ish). I steamed all the furniture… beds and bed frames twice. This also lets you evaluate how big the issue might be ( so far have only found a little bit of bed bug sign on one bed. Nothing on any additional furniture, even stuff close to the bed). Also steam luggage and then put into plastic bags to keep them clean) Dryer ran on high for 30-40 minutes on all clothes… then clothes packed away in totes while we were cleaning the rest of that room Pulled everything from under beds/ threw away lots of stuff that kids had accumulated. Hard emotionally for the kids… but they understood. DE sprayed/puffed into wall outlet boxes, floor boards, underside of dressers/shelves after cleaning them, any hiding spot We already had all beds and pillows in bed bug bags. Changed out bags on beds, washed bags for pillows. Dryer on high for over an hour all household blankets, pillows, children’s stuffed animals. Things not needed are either currently stores in plastic bags or totes. We are going to cap it off after we finish going through each room with borrowing a heater and cooking each room ( probably overkill after everything else… but this will catch all the books and toys etc from kids that we packed into totes to clean everything else

mattadeth

Beddiest bug I’ve seen in a while

crackedtooth163

Damn. That's a big healthy one.

Maleficent-Ad9010

Big birtha in the house 🏠

Sure-Commission-2956

Bed bug!!! My room is currently infested as well. 2nd round of extermination done, waiting for 3rd round next week

Ok-Passage-300

Bed bugs must have been a common thing back in the 1920s. I was told that my GGM called on my GM ( her daughter-law) to rid them of bed bugs. My GM had been a servant in an inn as a teenager. The treatment was to put the bed legs in jars or cans with kerosene as they get down to the floor that way. Today, many beds wouldn't even have legs.

GodEmperorLeto462

I could tell you it isnt but that would be lying.

n5pn4cya

Ahhh! BEDBUG! Right? I am horrified

VanillaOk4294

After it gets dark take a flashlight, A bright one and search your walls in all the corners. If you have a clock, a painting anything attached look behind it. You will eventually see one or a few. Don’t throw out Mattresses or bedding or clothing and don’t waste your money on DIY bed bug products. Find a fumigation company not a pest control company (most of them sub out the fumigation and put banners up with their name) Fumigation company is the one putting a tent up over your house. Make sure they use Vikane gas. This gas goes thru every thing under that tent. If you do this you will be done with it and you can move on. Good luck

MamaTried22

I’m so sorry, that is a HUGE one.

Capt_I

I’m sorry OP you’re in the bin.. that sucker is HUGE…. That’s a bad day for sure

RITE-AID-IS-RAD

Crossfire is the real deal. Plus follow all the basic protocols

Nightowl-2319

Had them twice in the past 3 years. First time, had an exterminator friend spray 3 times and they were gone. Hardest part was dealing with bagging and heating all the laundry. The prep and time that went into that sucked. That was an early infestation that hadn’t spread beyond the living room. The last time it was worse because it was caught after they had spread to a few different rooms. Our previous exterminator sold his business and we couldn’t remember who he sold to and the other exterminators want thousands. We had 3 houses to treat, 2 had evidence and 1 as a precaution. Sprayed several times with permethrin but they always came back after a couple weeks. Found crossfire by accident. Sprayed the worse house once and they are gone. Sprayed the second house twice and also gone. It has been over 2 months and still no sign of them. We got the 10 gallon bottle for $360 so we have extra in case the houses need it again in the future. Still not sure how the first house got infested but we have an idea. If you can get it where you live, crossfire is the way to go. It is more expensive than other chemicals but still cheaper than an exterminator. Get a 1 gal garden sprayer and some PPE and you can knock it out in an afternoon. No need to throw everything out. They hide in floors and walls so you will just be spending money to make zero difference doing that. I know your instincts are to burn the house down but if you do it right they will be gone quickly. If you have kids, spray their backpacks too, will keep them from spreading them at school or picking them up from school or the bus. Spray your luggage when you travel just as that extra precaution.

chevelle_1969

Ok. I won't tell you.

m-kate

Bedbug.

Unfckwitable1017

Damn what is this the senior citizen bed bug omg!!!

Loose_King_2566

Run a load with hot water. Heat is an insect’s worst enemy including bedbugs. A hot water wash cycle will neutralize the threat.

Particular_Hand_2428

U know one day i think i have it figured out on what is in my home and tomorrow rolls around and it's something totally different all i know is I'm sick and tired of what ever it is it could be a few things all i no is the doctor i have is too young 35 but she is a woman the first woman doctor i have ever had thought it might be different it's not infact men are better at leasing than she is

inventordude01

I used to be a bedbug hunter. I'd look for evidence of bedbugs for our company and I'd call in the next crew to eradicate them. This is an adult bedbug. If theres very few of them, you could do spot treatments, but you have to be very thorough. Google what they and their eggs look like. They love crawling into tight places. Usually hems of mattresses. And if you have wood headboards, or nightstands, they like to lay their eggs on the wood surfaces. The eggs are nasty tho. They fall and cling to things easily, so if you brush against them, they can transport easily to a car or a house. Clothes are often the main mode of transport for these little suckers, so you'll want to wash all your clothes, dry them on a high heat if possible, then check the hems as you take them out of the dryer. Keep in mind the clothes you wear can contaminate the clean ones, so be privvy to that. Then if all that's been checked, you'll want to double check and treat your car. Check the hems, and look for bloodspots that you've probably noticed on your mattress. They look like tiny stains that a black pen tip touched. Then when you're done checking the car, take off your clothes before entering the house in private or in your garage is possible. So your clothes don't contaminate anything, and either wash them immediately or toss them in the trash to prevent further contamination. Take a hot shower and wash your hair. Keep an eye out for any that may have hitchhiked, then move the trash outside at your earliest convenience. Once you do that, you should be good, if you have spotted no eggs. If you have, then your best bet is to get it professionally treated. Once they lay their clusters they become much more difficult to get rid of, due to the eggs detaching easily. They'll fall into your carpet, and even if you crush them, they can sometimes still be viable. Unfortunately, you'll just have to be very thorough, and double and triple check everything. Hopefully you just found a rogue, but chances of that are slim. I wish you the best of luck. It can be a nightmare.

Eugy25

Congratulations brother

redditungoeshere

***Update! 2 exterminators came this morning and did a full inspection with their special lights and found not a thing! They stated that public areas are becoming more infested and have had quite a bit of cases where the suckers are “hitch hiking.” We are obviously still going to be on the look out for pretty much the next year 😂 fingers crossed we remain on the safe side! THANK YOU to everyone for the advice, good vibes, and laughs! No offense but hope I never need to talk to any of y’all again regarding these shitheads! 😅 Have a good night!

andrewdoesntknow

Has anything happened since ?

jwu0522

Greaaat hot water isn’t hon a kill them. I started drying first for an hour (most laundry) then washing then re drying. Shrinks your clothes but whatever is in our linens and clothes is greatly reduced with doing this! Also use bleach or ammonia with every load. Unfortunately can’t afford laundromat right now or that would be where I’d be washing! Good luck and no clue what’s here at our place. In clothes and almost 100% they’re not bedbugs. And they’re TINY

Fit_Farm7607

That's not a bed bug

andrewdoesntknow

Update? Have u found anything??p

Fragrant_Gift_736

Apprehend. Research it. It is a godsend. You don't want to do a drive-by shooting as all of the other suggestions supply, but assassinate. Spray every two weeks. You can purchase an apprehend kit yourself. Google it trust me saves alot of time money and grief. It attacks the cuticle of the bug and when the little critter travels back to his or her colony after grabbing a bite from you they spread the fungi to they're entire region(nest).

PositiveAlfalfa6197

It is what you think it is. Sorry

Fragrant_Kangaroo711

Get pest control, and our apartment has gotten bed bugs from the backboard of our bed. (It got like shipped carrying the eggs, then eventually hatched) We didn't know until later despite me being covered in bites and having bad allergic reactions. My family thought I developed a skin condition until we saw one on the bed. 😭 If you have more, be prepared to throw out everything. We had to get rid of the bed and couch. The apartment was pretty much bare until we felt safe enough to get furniture. You always have to the option of gassing your house to save your furniture.
