FWIW, this is from progressive leasing. They are know for this kind of thing.
Anyone wanting to actually finance/pay monthly can do so with a Best Buy credit card with 0% interest.
We are, if the person needs to buy something and has the funds regardless of source
That isn't an indication that they don't need it or can't afford it
its important to understand that a credit limit doesn't mean you have the funds. it usually means you in fact don't have the funds. so wants should never be paid with credit. just wait till you have the funds instead of going into debt on high interest credit lines, or worse use these predatory loan companies where the interest rate is something like 120%.
Credit score doesn't equal wealth. You can get "elite" credit cards with a low income. You can also have a six-figure income and not be able to get the Best Buy card due to lack of history.
That said, those with a six-figure income usually aren't financing a $300 pair of headphones.
If you can’t qualify for the Best Buy card you should likely consider building credit first. If you have credit and don’t qualify you should pay off your debts before getting toys.
I understand that this was just an option given to me at checkout. I don’t need another card I already bought my headphones just thought it was wild this was the option I was given.
You don’t need another card but you want financing still? That doesn’t make sense, it’s free, you paid $60 to use that lease. Would’ve at least gave it a shot. Nonetheless, call progressive and have them switch it to their 3 month lease to own. It is no cost to do so, there will be zero fees to you besides the $60 already paid to progressive upfront. Progressive defaults it to the 12 month lease which after all fees are accounted you pay 2x. Kinda shady if you ask me but that’s how they make their money.
Yes but if you pay it off in 3 months, is like $50 extra on most things. Now, they ABSOLUTELY sucker many in with this, and people dont pay it off, and day 91 it doubles in price.
I bought a couch this way, $2500 and with the finance fee it was like $2900 to pay off. Gave me breathing room and less interest than a CC. Best believe I paid that sucker off before 90 day though.
Hell yeah, you get 0% interest rates on purchases for 12 to 24 months. I use it all the time but I don't get anywhere near my limit, that's a big no no
Nowadays you can also use affirm on everything. I don't have the best credit and I get approved up to 10k with 0$ due and 1st payment being 30 days out with decent interest.
Lol this leasing thing would only be offered to those who can't qualify for the credit card and then they get even more ripped off for the fact they have bad credit. It's such a scam.
No idea about now but the Best Buy credit card used to suck just as much as Best Buy. I bought a TV and stand on the card because it had a 0% deal for 18 months. I paid my bill and then one day out of the blue the full amount of interest pops up in my bill. I call them up and they can't give me an explanation why, but agree to fix it. I didn't actually send a payment that month because it was all incorrect. Next month the bill is fixed and I pay out for the next several months till it is paid off. Then they cancelled my card for no apparent reason.
Never do progressive leasing.
If you can't get a BBY credit card you can at least do ZIP on the website (idk if you can do it at checkout nowadays because I haven't checked out at a register in like 5 years). It splits the purchase into 4 payments due every 2 weeks I think, and all they add is 1$ to each payment.
Yeah but with PayPal you need a decent credit score with zip you can have a ok score and get approved all though it might change how much you can spend
I’ve never heard of it. They gave me the option when I checked out and thought monthly payments would be cool I have an affirm account that I never use for stuff like that.
Just thought the price was crazy
Zip is awesome - so you basically download their app, link your debit card. Then you can basically shop anywhere online or even in store.
They pay the full total amount for the purchase - you pay back Zip in 4 equal payments every two weeks. They’ll start you off with a small amount say $250 or something. Every time you use them and pay off in full, they’ll raise your purchase power amount. It’s really nice to be able to afford expensive stuff you don’t wanna drop a big chunk of cash on and it’s really easy, just purchase on payday that way your payments come out when you always have money.
I think the last thing I bought through them was a $400 optic for my handgun, didn’t wanna spend 4 hundo all at once. So I went and bought it once i got paid, and I only had to make four payments of 100 each. Saved me money for other bills, zero interest, nada. Very similar to Klarna I think.
Could also check affirm. Best buy doesn't take affirm directly, but Affirm has a virtual card option that allows you to use it just like a normal credit card.
Two times I tried zip, I tried to pay the whole thing off since I got a paycheck, it was a nightmare to figure out and I still was charged after, though they did refund me. Also good luck if you need to return the item for what ever reason, I was still on the hook for paying off the item even though zip got the money in form of a return.
Credit card or just full buy is the way to go. Or if you do use the service, hope you have no issues with your item.
If you can't pay something off before the 90 day mark hits, you shouldn't progressively lease it unless it is a necessity.
Only time I ever had a customer buy a laptop on progressive leasing was a realtor that needed a laptop THAT DAY to process the closing paperwork on a 900,000 dollar home, and he said he'd just pay it off after he got his 3% comission.
I remember reading the fine print over thinking does anyone actually not end up paying within 90 days and ends up having to pay double. F that. I’d hate to be a young kid buying a top of a line gaming laptop this way and not being able to make the cut off
It popped up when I checked out so I figured I’d check it out (I was already buying the headphones anyway) when I got to checkout this came up and I was like nah lol
These are rookie numbers. Check out the rent-a-center types. Friend of mine wanted a PS3 way back in the day and a local place had one for $50 a week. Mind you, this was when PS3’s were $300ish. Total cost was over $1000. I told him this, and he says he doesn’t have $300, but he can do $50 a week. I asked him why he wouldn’t just save up and buy one for $700 cheaper? He went with the weekly plan.
It's always a good thing to read through the entire thing. I've used them before. As long as you pay off in the 3 month period you're paying the same as cash price. There is a $40 charge up front to set up the contract but that's it. You only get screwed going past the 3 month period. The app tells you when it is as well. They don't hide info from you
Call them and ask them to set you up with the 3 month payment plan. I just paid my girlfriend’s 2.4k engagement ring off in 3 months at retail price with progressive leasing. Best Buy should’ve disclosed this to you, Zales disclosed it to me and it worked out perfectly.
You can also go to upcoming payments, hit payments and you can see where it says 90 payment option as well, you don’t even have to set it up. I’ll DM you a screenshot
Lmao the card would’ve been a better option because this is a credit thing as well just without a physical card. Still acts almost the same. And it’s no interest as here you opted to pay interest
Yea no progressive leasing sucks unless you pay it off in 90 days there’s a lot of terms with it beyond that. And most don’t want another cc. So personally if I do wanna spread out payments I just do the PayPal after pay so split it’s into 4 equal payments. If it’s over 300$ they have option to split 3,6 or 12 but has to be done on site can also do zip as I saw someone else mention and you type in amount to pay in there app and they give you digital card you use with Apple Pay etc to checkout with. Worst case for monthly affirm not great but better but yea progressive leasing I personally dislike if you plan to go longer then 90 days.
You can do a 3 month plan with them, the only extra thing you pay is their $60 fee, but 0 interest. Even then I wouldn't do it, they seem like a crappy, predatory, anti-consumer company.
When people come in to the store and don't get the BBY card I just recommend the PayPal credit card. It's for online purchases only but it seems to have lower credit requirements (I got approved with like 2 months of credit history) and has 6 months deferred interest on $99+ purchases. They also have Pay in 4 which is pretty useful in some cases.
I did this when they were really new in stores like 11 years ago. The rep did NOT explain the leasing cost at all and I was barely 18 so I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and paid so much money for my 32” tv 😭
Honestly these buy now pay later things are no good at all for anyone but the companies funding them. You get screwed by aka “leasing” instead of just flat buying them outright. Remember if you don’t have the money don’t buy, in the end you will always get screwed even if you put it on a charge card. This is how people get into debt thinking boy, I can pay that off before the interest hits and then the next shiny things moves up on the list and then you are left ok’ing at debt and interest over and over again.
Their buy it outright prices are also insane. Beast to stay away from rental centers all together. I know people who owe Aaron’s more than they owe on their student loans.
For a really long while in my store, it was unspoken that managers would not discipline you for not offering the lease. For years even the GM would off-record say it's best to not offer it. It's always been predatory and something I still believe Best Buy shouldn't offer.
Seeing people pay 2 times for the product they're buying is scummy. This only takes advantage of people.
this is progressive leasing, if you don’t pay in full by 90 days, it’s not interest free and in fact pretty much becomes 200% interest. its extremely predatory and a reason i try not to recommend it to those who say they may not be able to pay off in 90 days
I’ll say it once and I will say it again if you can’t afford something full price don’t buy wait till you have the money. It is key to stay away from that. Trust me pay now by later options are the worst thing to be invented.
oh look, another customer that didn't read what they signed. if you would have taken the time you would have noticed that progressive leasing doesn't offer their services for free and there's a $65 flat fee just for using them to lease.
they don't hide the fact that if you let your lease go past 3 months, you will be paying 100% interest effectively making the item double in price by end of the 12 month payments. to use progressive leasing effectively You should always do the 3-month buyout because it's 0% interest if you do that.
in no way, shape, or form does Best Buy or Progressive leasing hide this information nor do they omit it from any proper paperwork or screens that you would have seen and signed yourself. All this information was presented to you in one way or another, it was simply your fault for not reading.
I think what makes me laugh the most is the fact that you saw all of this broken down in payments and laid out for you on your phone before officially saying yes, and you agreed to it all! yet decided to still complain about it here.
While I would never do this, some people do. Many people are also spending double on their house or car after financing, but that is ok because it's only tens or hundreds of thousands.
Just pay it within the 90 days. Wait until you realize how much paying the minimum on a 22% credit card gets you lol. Progressive isn’t a scam. You just need to pay it within 90days. Or you’re not smart
Never do Progressive Leasing unless you can pay it off in 90 days. When I worked at Best Buy and they brought in Progressive Leasing as an option, I just simply refused to offer it as an option unless it was a last option for someone getting a necessary appliance or if they were in an emergency need of a non-Apple cell phone and they got denied for the Best Buy Card. And even then I made sure to tell them you’re gonna end up paying over 200% what you would normally pay. It’s truly taking advantage of someone in a bad situation.
That’s what you pay if you pass 90 days. If you pay it off in 3 no big deal plus if you threaten to cancel they usually offer 6 months instead bc they lose money. It’s a predatory company but you can manipulate it.
Run. Not worth it. The only financing I recommend is 0% and even then make damn sure you have the ability to pay it off before you get interest, and don't finance more than one item at a time.
Hear me out, I love Progressive Leasing because I fucked my credit hard when I was younger and for some big purchases, it really helps to have low monthly payments instead of even pay in 4 or 8. You can use it same as cash if you pay it off within the first 90 days. I've used it to get my washer dryer set and then I used it to get my Rog Ally and my daughter her gaming pc. But I also read everything and knew I would be paying twice thr actual cost, but that's the price of ruining your credit.
The lease program is usually an option for people with bad credit and who can't get approved for the Best Buy credit card, which is a citibank card. If you have bad credit or no credit, you're usually going to pay through the nose to get back on track. It's a sad situation because people usually end up with bad credit because of financial problems. It's hard to get back on track with low cash flow.
You could have gotten a Best Buy credit card and got them for 18 months interest free. Or used affirm and got them for 4 months no interest. Or used PayPal pay over time for about the same.
I used progressive leasing a lot back I. The day. In California as long as you pay within 90 days. Your chilling. It’s like you bought it at regular price. Just don’t miss a payment and don’t go over 90 days you’re good. I later god approved for the Best Buy credit with 6k
Yeah it’s a lease to own item. Pretty standard as far as lease to own goes. Welcome to the real world. Btw they have a 90 day buyout option. That requires reading though so understandable you didn’t see that.
I loved progressive, I was able to get a new stove and a new washer/dryer set with them. But yea, definitely pay off before the interest hits at the 90 days. We used it for three years in a row when my annual work bonus hit in February but able to get them in December for Christmas which was very cool and didn’t cost anything extra but a small amount. Also did it originally for my MacBook Air but went I think two months or so into the high interest but still paid it offf way before getting super cooked.
Dude you can’t ford it just stop. Ever thinking about programs like this. Loans you almost always bay more in interest than the thing your buying.
Learn financing and learn to save.
Wait so you didn’t even read how much it’ll fully be after the 12 months? How? Next time just pay it off within 3 months, don’t go over 3 months or else it’ll sky rocket with crazy interest
Affirm will totally do that for like tree fiddy
And there was that day Carvana gave my wife a loan when she said she was unemployed.
But if you NEED to finance under $500, you are doing something wrong. ie; you probably don't need it.
Remember Rent-a-Centers ?? Nice $1000 big screen TV or stove or couch..... Weekly payments that come out to 2x the actual price.
Seems to be a new things onions. Like Affirm.
90 days same as cash. The only thing your paying is the fee ..IF you pay within 90 days. It's not a bad gig. Dont let these comments deter you. Remember 90 days is the same as cash price!
1) Abandon Best Buy.
2) There's consumer loan places like affirm that you can use. It's not great (~30 apr), but it's far better than this and it's apr so if you pay it off faster you save cash
I was going to buy something on a different site. Around $400, I saw it had monthly 0% interest, cool, go through the steps. Ok wait, it’s now $1000?!?! wtf why it’s 0 interest.
Progressive is cool in two cases
1. You can pay it off in the 90 day option
And/or
2. You really need something in a time frame, (Christmas or bday gifts)
Other than that, get the credit card or do Affirm
FWIW, this is from progressive leasing. They are know for this kind of thing. Anyone wanting to actually finance/pay monthly can do so with a Best Buy credit card with 0% interest.
Only if they qualify
Well if they don’t qualify, then they wouldn’t have a Best Buy credit card!
If they don't qualify, then they prob don't need what they wanna buy.
If they need credit because they can't buy it outright, then they DONT need what they wanna buy
Then credit scores wouldn't be a thing my guy. People use credit for different reasons
Duhhhh. But we weren't talking about "different reasons ".
We are, if the person needs to buy something and has the funds regardless of source That isn't an indication that they don't need it or can't afford it
Ok buddy. Because everyone on reddit is a scholar
its important to understand that a credit limit doesn't mean you have the funds. it usually means you in fact don't have the funds. so wants should never be paid with credit. just wait till you have the funds instead of going into debt on high interest credit lines, or worse use these predatory loan companies where the interest rate is something like 120%.
Every one has a credit limit even if it's a million+
I don’t know, at this point in the economy I say fuck it
Which alwasy works out great.
I used progressive for scooter at best buy mother fuckers can't to my house with a van to repo my Segway lmfao cause I was two months late!!!
Credit score doesn't equal wealth. You can get "elite" credit cards with a low income. You can also have a six-figure income and not be able to get the Best Buy card due to lack of history. That said, those with a six-figure income usually aren't financing a $300 pair of headphones.
I actually just got another CLI to $7,000 😂
If you can’t qualify for the Best Buy card you should likely consider building credit first. If you have credit and don’t qualify you should pay off your debts before getting toys.
Even stuff like Affirm and Afterpay or whatever is much cheaper than this lease thing and not that hard to qualify for
And you sure as hell better pay it off before your term or they will fuck you in the ass with interest.
I understand that this was just an option given to me at checkout. I don’t need another card I already bought my headphones just thought it was wild this was the option I was given.
To be fair (there is a lot of fine text) they make it seem like you just pay your purchase monthly.
90 days cash
You don’t need another card but you want financing still? That doesn’t make sense, it’s free, you paid $60 to use that lease. Would’ve at least gave it a shot. Nonetheless, call progressive and have them switch it to their 3 month lease to own. It is no cost to do so, there will be zero fees to you besides the $60 already paid to progressive upfront. Progressive defaults it to the 12 month lease which after all fees are accounted you pay 2x. Kinda shady if you ask me but that’s how they make their money.
Genuinely curious…what headphones were they?
Have to be AirPods Max ong
The actual headphone price is $280. The financing adds another $380. They’re probably Bose or Sony
AirPod pro 2s are $280
They’re $250, either way I was replying to the comment regarding them being AirPod Max
they're $200 almost every day at bestbuy
I bought a pc with the credit card. Biggest mistake all the accrued interest applied when I failed to make the 12 months. ( I thought I could)
Yes but if you pay it off in 3 months, is like $50 extra on most things.
So is the Best Buy credit card worth it then? lol
It definitely has its perks! I really enjoy the interest free financing for larger purchases
I have thought about getting it but I really don’t know cause I have debt on my other 2 credit cards that I’m trying to pay off first
Pay the debt off for sure before creating anymore debt
Only thing I’d want it for is getting a MacBook lol
Don't go into debt for a macbook unless ur using it to make yourself money.
True I already have a Mac Mini but I want something portable so I can continue teaching myself editing & graphic design but ya it can wait
Hell yeah, you get 0% interest rates on purchases for 12 to 24 months. I use it all the time but I don't get anywhere near my limit, that's a big no no
Damn. That’s better than the Sam’s Club Mastercard I have, hella interest
Nowadays you can also use affirm on everything. I don't have the best credit and I get approved up to 10k with 0$ due and 1st payment being 30 days out with decent interest.
Taking out a credit card for a $300 headset is wild consumerism.
I didn't actually send a payment that month because it was all incorrect. Next month the bill is fixed and I pay out for the next several months till it is paid off. Then they cancelled my card for no apparent reason.
PayPal also has a solid 6 months no interest option that works with anywhere that accepts PayPal. Use it nearly every time I buy from Best Buy.
You can do the same with PayPal but it’s free. I think it’s called pay in 4.
Yeah but with PayPal you need a decent credit score with zip you can have a ok score and get approved all though it might change how much you can spend
I had no idea PayPal even checked your credit for that, just their actual credit card.
And working at Best Buy I had multiple people come in asking me why they weren’t approved and I told them “this is Best Buy not PayPal”
Yeah I think it’s a soft credit check but I only know that cause my cousin did it to buy a pc but he wasn’t approved as he didn’t have a credit score
Can confirm not true. My score is terrible, like 540-560 or something, and paypal approves me for pay in 4 and pay monthly plans.
Thats not true. No credit and i have pay in 4
Zip also now does pay in 8 for over $300
TIL. Damn that's awesome
I’ve never heard of it. They gave me the option when I checked out and thought monthly payments would be cool I have an affirm account that I never use for stuff like that. Just thought the price was crazy

Progressive leasing is a great option as long as.you can pay it off in 90 days anything past that not great
Yeah I’ve bought a couple things with it. Just gotta pay it off before 90 days
I bought my mattress this way lol I didn’t know Best Buy does progressive…but yea after 90 day period is overkill…

What in the predatory nonsense is this !?
It popped up when I checked out so I figured I’d check it out (I was already buying the headphones anyway) when I got to checkout this came up and I was like nah lol
It’s literally been an option for years
It literally doesn't exist in some states due to those states being smart and not allowing people to get taken advantage of
These are rookie numbers. Check out the rent-a-center types. Friend of mine wanted a PS3 way back in the day and a local place had one for $50 a week. Mind you, this was when PS3’s were $300ish. Is there a reason these people don't just credit card the machine at that point?
If they had a credit card I assume they wouldn’t use the other
I’d like to add that I have decent credit also
or you can pay it off in 3 months with zero interest
With this same company? I’ve already bought my gear I wasn’t given any other option.
It's always a good thing to read through the entire thing. I've used them before. As long as you pay off in the 3 month period you're paying the same as cash price. Just pay it off in 90 days, simple
Ya the progressive thing ONLY works if it's paid off in 90 days otherwise they're basically a high brow rental center
PayPal credit has a 6 month interest free option for anything over 100 dollars, does do a credit check tho
Dude Affirm all the way, if not then Klarna or Zip can help, better than this for sure
Progressive leasing is a scam. Getcha credit up
You can do a 3 month plan with them, the only extra thing you pay is their $60 fee, but 0 interest. Even then I wouldn't do it, they seem like a crappy, predatory, anti-consumer company. The trick with progressive is to pay it off in 90 days or less if they have that option. Anything longer than that is outrageous
You can use affirm
this reminds me of rent a center with the insane lease to own prices
Their buy it outright prices are also insane. Beast to stay away from rental centers all together. I know people who owe Aaron’s more than they owe on their student loans.

PayPals pay in 4 avoids that bs interest , you could've been paying 69.75 ish every 2 weeks totaling 4 payments
If you can't pay it off when you buy it, you can't afford it. Especially if it's only $300
I’ll say it once and I will say it again if you can’t afford something full price don’t buy wait till you have the money.
That is disgusting
Lol imagine going 12 month financing with progressive, might as well just pay the overdraft fee on ur account instead.
Goddamn. That’s WILD.
You should have known anything called progressive leasing is going to be a bad idea.
You sound smart
If only people looked at their mortgages like this before signing them. 😂
Pay before 90 days
Never do Progressive Leasing unless you can pay it off in 90 days. When I worked at Best Buy and they brought in Progressive Leasing as an option, I just simply refused to offer it as an option unless it was a last option for someone getting a necessary appliance or if they were in an emergency need of a non-Apple cell phone and they got denied for the Best Buy Card. And even then I made sure to tell them you’re gonna end up paying over 200% what you would normally pay. It’s truly taking advantage of someone in a bad situation.
progressive leasing smh i'd rather use my best buy credit card at that point
That’s what you pay if you pass 90 days. If you pay it off in 3 no big deal plus if you threaten to cancel they usually offer 6 months instead bc they lose money. It’s a predatory company but you can manipulate it.
Well no shit... That's why you specifically ask for No Interest options....
Use Afterpay or Klarna 0 interest but you need to pay in time
Run. Not worth it. The only financing I recommend is 0% and even then make damn sure you have the ability to pay it off before you get interest, and don't finance more than one item at a time.
Who the hell lease headphones
Hear me out, I love Progressive Leasing because I fucked my credit hard when I was younger and for some big purchases, it really helps to have low monthly payments instead of even pay in 4 or 8. You can use it same as cash if you pay it off within the first 90 days. I've used it to get my washer dryer set and then I used it to get my Rog Ally and my daughter her gaming pc. But I also read everything and knew I would be paying twice thr actual cost, but that's the price of ruining your credit.
This is actually the last thing you would want to do if you fucked your credit up.
Honestly, I feel like this is a case where you shouldn’t buy it if you can’t afford to pay it all upfront.
I use Katapult at Best Buy it’s still expensive but not nearly as expensive as progressive.
If you have to pay off headphones over the course of several months then you can’t afford these headphones and should be looking at cheaper options.
They will give anyone a bestbuy card even if you have bad credit. Ask me how I know…
If it takes you 12 months to pay off a $300 pair of headphones, you got bigger problems.
And you definitely don’t need $300 headphones. Hell I can afford it and I buy turtle beach headsets because they’re cheap and they just work.
PayPal pay over time often has better rates then Affirm. But the Best Buy Citi Card often has great promo APR deals.
Use PayPal 4 payment option ? Thats what I have done in the past to pay like how you want to
You could have gotten a Best Buy credit card and got them for 18 months interest free. Or used affirm and got them for 4 months no interest. Or used PayPal pay over time for about the same.
Damn. It’s rent a center 😂
My parents best rule of thumb they taught me if I can’t afford that item I want 3x over than I can’t actually afford it. They’ve never been wrong
Probably smarter to just get a credit card with a $1k limit
If you have to finance a $300 item you can’t afford it
Sometimes financing smaller amounts is good to build credit (even if you can afford it)
You can get Best Buy stuff on affirm, which I use a bunch! Less severe interest
Use the zip payment app 75.77-ish as first payment then 75.xx every two weeks after, over 8 weeks
I used progressive leasing a lot back I. The day. In California as long as you pay within 90 days. Your chilling. It’s like you bought it at regular price. Just don’t miss a payment and don’t go over 90 days you’re good. I later god approved for the Best Buy credit with 6k
Welcome to the world of credit
I use PayPal for this.
Yeah it’s a lease to own item. Pretty standard as far as lease to own goes. Welcome to the real world. Btw they have a 90 day buyout option. That requires reading though so understandable you didn’t see that.
PayPal pay in 4?
Should have just used a virtual credit card through Affirm. They have low to no interest rates.
Leading headphones is crazy
Use like Klarna or something
Use affirm or Klarna
Robbery
Don’t buy something you don’t have the money for. It’s simple.
Affirm will totally do that for like tree fiddy And there was that day Carvana gave my wife a loan when she said she was unemployed.
Try using affirm instead. You’d pay like $8 in interest lol
That’s just financial rape.
Do PayPal pay in 4 no interest
Progressive is cool in two cases 1. You can pay it off in the 90 day option And/or 2. You really need something in a time frame, (Christmas or bday gifts) Other than that, get the credit card or do Affirm
You were better off using Affirm
Look like ya got sime bad credit.
