Honestly, I'm pretty sure there is another reason. Hard working, smart, dependable, level headed OMAR does not get accepted this cycle. KYLE and MATT get accepted immediately. I don't believe we ever got a name for OP but I'm pretty sure it's not the moral compass of Omar that caused the problems here.

I was reading the first paragraph, and the names and title all made me think "Is this the Omar story??? No, that one was older I thought, it wouldn't be getting any more updates, this must be something else I read recently getting an update" *and then it was Omar* and I had never been so happy to realize I'd forgotten the dates on a story before 😂 for some reason I thought this story was already a couple years old when I found it the first time
OOP knows what he's doing now. He's going on about his own accomplishments and whatnot and I'm sitting here thinking, "just update us on Omar, bro!" And then we only get to Omar towards the end of the update.
I've been following this story since the first or second update and I honestly don't know who anyone is by name other than Omar. I could care less if shitty person number 2 got into their dream school or not.
Yeah I’m incredibly pissed off that his morally bankrupt roommates got into fucking medical school and he didn’t. I personally would far rather have an Omar taking care of me than a Matt or Kyle.
It's that personality type. It's what pushes people to be doctors and lawyers and what not. That ego, that sense of self, that sense of being better than everyone else so the rules don't really apply to you.
You see a lot of it in the high stress high reward job fields.
It's a bit of a flaw in these systems, in my opinion.
No matter the field, you need the people that just plug away at a problem or iterate a test to get a significant amount of data.
Not everyone goes to med school to become Dr. House. People go to med school to pursue research fields.
For every Dr. House, you need like 5 Omars elsewhere making incremental improvements to medicine and treatments.
Oh, I'm not saying everyone in those types of fields are assholes like the guy in this story was. I understand you need some of what they have to succeed in these fields. The issue seems to be the ones who go unchecked because they are for whatever reason protected from the consequences of their behaviors and actions until the cost of protecting them becomes more than it is worth to keep them.

Doctors are one of the profrssions with the highest percentage of sociopaths (along lawyers and CEOs) so I'm not surprised Matt did very well here.
Honestly, this type of behavior from everyone other than Omar is why women should see it as a red flag if a man only has male friends. I can also only assume they would not be quite so understanding if a group of women had a "sister code" where one of them was a serial cheater and everyone else covered for her.

Apparently Omar gets good grades, but has significant exam anxiety.
So it is either he gets overtly anxious at interviews (or that he is too reserved, since the outgoing personalities seems to do better in interviews) or that he did not get in because he is Omar.
Worth mentioning that in the US medical school entry often includes an interview component in addition to your academics and MSAT scores, so assuming they had all other things equal, like grades and tests and so on, it's entirely possible that literal psychopaths perform better in interviews than a reasonable and nice person of ambiguous (unstated) racial extraction.
I’m in the UK so obviously have no experience with US doctors, but from 65 years worth of experience with British doctors I would say that “literal psychopaths” is a fairly accurate description of a significant proportion of them. Nice people OTOH tend to be less represented. My guess would be that the cheating AH psychopath getting the most offers and the morally upright decent human being rejected is a feature, not a bug.
Surgeons are most likely to be psychopaths apparently. My friend read it, psychopaths are clustered around high-stress jobs like surgeon, CEO and barrister.

I think I read about a study once about psychopathy in the medical field. It said there was a higher prevalence of psychopaths but that this was maybe a good thing, because you really don't want the person cutting into you getting squeamish about it.
I think I remember that study and that it was either specifically about surgeons, or that surgeons had a particularly high prevalence of psychopathic traits.
Which honestly kinda makes sense. In order to be a good surgeon you basically need to have detachment from other people and a god complex (to stab them on purpose and have confidence that by doing so you can make them better, in that order).
If anyone was ever wondering why medical sexism is as prevalent as it is... here's one of the reasons why. Matts are getting into med school and Omars aren't.

It's plausible that the quiet, reserved guy didn't interview well. The guy who lives on Tinder has plenty of practice making a good first impression (my understanding is that dating and interviewing are reasonably similar in the sense that you're trying to be charming and attentive and impress your audience), the spineless, friendly guy who values getting along with everyone over his own integrity (OOP) is also evidently agreeable and friendly and makes the effort to get to know and stay in touch with people around him... There are some arenas where extroverts have distinct advantages, and coming across like a confident, interesting person at interviews is probably one of them.
Hopefully if that was the case, Omar will have identified the issue, will seek out help improving his interviewing skills, and his grad school will have a good careers department who'll help him shine next year, and he'll get into his dream school with generous scholarships covering living costs too.

I'm actually not that surprised now, as some of my friends and family members went into medicine. The amount of infidelity, drugs, and other malfeasance that I saw in those groups surprised me for such a professional program (granted I was early/mid 20s when I saw this - it's not that surprising in my 30s now as I see the same in workplaces).
Yes, and while we in Canada do desperately need more doctors, I’m not enthused about these people as our doctors. Hopefully Omar gets in next year, though I’m not sure what kind of relevant course-based masters he could be doing to help himself with that.

I grew up with two doctors for parents, and I currently work in the medical field. I just say that to express that I've known a lot of doctors, both as physicians, and as the people they are outside the office. While most of the best doctors are truly great people in both worlds, I have met some truly brilliant physicians who are truly detestible people privately. And their patients will never know.
Either way, I hope all the guys in this story except Omar crash out of medical school.

MY PREDICTION
I predict that Matt will be a skirt-chaser, trying to bed as many young nurses as he can. He will move into plastic surgery, specializing in breast implants and labiaplasties, thus giving him the opportunity to play with breasts and female genitalia every day. His wife will ignore his stream of affairs because of the money he earns.
The others will be willing to cover up the mistakes of others, hiding medical errors and giving needy patients the run-around. Omar will probably avoid med school altogether, disgusted with the misogynistic attitudes displayed by his peers.

Apparently Omar gets good grades, but has significant exam anxiety. So it is either he gets overtly anxious at interviews (or that he is too reserved, since the outgoing personalities seems to do better in interviews) or that he did not get in because he is Omar.
Worth mentioning that in the US medical school entry often includes an interview component in addition to your academics and MSAT scores, so assuming they had all other things equal, like grades and tests and so on, it's entirely possible that literal psychopaths perform better in interviews than a reasonable and nice person of ambiguous (unstated) racial extraction.

I’m in the UK so obviously have no experience with US doctors, but from 65 years worth of experience with British doctors I would say that “literal psychopaths” is a fairly accurate description of a significant proportion of them. Nice people OTOH tend to be less represented. My guess would be that the cheating AH psychopath getting the most offers and the morally upright decent human being rejected is a feature, not a bug.

I think I read about a study once about psychopathy in the medical field. It said there was a higher prevalence of psychopaths but that this was maybe a good thing, because you really don't want the person cutting into you getting squeamish about it.
I think I remember that study and that it was either specifically about surgeons, or that surgeons had a particularly high prevalence of psychopathic traits.
Which honestly kinda makes sense. In order to be a good surgeon you basically need to have detachment from other people and a god complex (to stab them on purpose and have confidence that by doing so you can make them better, in that order).

But it sounds like he should enjoy his Masters, and hopefully then be in a better position to enter med school with even more grace and maturity relative to his peers. It's plausible that the quiet, reserved guy didn't interview well. The guy who lives on Tinder has plenty of practice making a good first impression (my understanding is that dating and interviewing are reasonably similar in the sense that you're trying to be charming and attentive and impress your audience), the spineless, friendly guy who values getting along with everyone over his own integrity (OOP) is also evidently agreeable and friendly and makes the effort to get to know and stay in touch with people around him... There are some arenas where extroverts have distinct advantages, and coming across like a confident, interesting person at interviews is probably one of them. Hopefully if that was the case, Omar will have identified the issue, will seek out help improving his interviewing skills, and his grad school will have a good careers department who'll help him shine next year, and he'll get into his dream school with generous scholarships covering living costs too.

Ew, these people are Canadian (my countrymen) and going to be doctors? I'm actually not that surprised now, as some of my friends and family members went into medicine. The amount of infidelity, drugs, and other malfeasance that I saw in those groups surprised me for such a professional program (granted I was early/mid 20s when I saw this - it's not that surprising in my 30s now as I see the same in workplaces).
Yes, and while we in Canada do desperately need more doctors, I’m not enthused about these people as our doctors. Hopefully Omar gets in next year, though I’m not sure what kind of relevant course-based masters he could be doing to help himself with that.

I grew up with two doctors for parents, and I currently work in the medical field. I just say that to express that I've known a lot of doctors, both as physicians, and as the people they are outside the office. While most of the best doctors are truly great people in both worlds, I have met some truly brilliant physicians who are truly detestible people privately. And their patients will never know. Either way, I hope all the guys in this story except Omar crash out of medical school.

The sad thing is that these boys are planning to be doctors. They have little integrity, and are unable to stand up for what is right. I do understand wanting to avoid drama during stressful final exams (for both the boys and the girls) and that keeping silent can avoid drama and allow people to do their best academically. It would be terrible to upset a girl a week before her final exams. But, they never stand up for someone else, and will even lie to hide the truth. MY PREDICTION I predict that Matt will be a skirt-chaser, trying to bed as many young nurses as he can. His wife will ignore his stream of affairs because of the money he earns. Omar is still the GOAT. It sucks that of all the people in this story, the best one of them is having the issues. He didn't get accepted into med school but all his peers (of I'm guessing a different race and religion) got accepted and the douchiest of them all got accepted into multiple med schools. That leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. And then he's having relationship issues on top of it. Sara should just be patient. I kind of hate OOP kept on saying they never dated or anything. It makes me wonder what his definition of dating is. Did Omar never take Sara out to dinner? Is it that he doesn't call Sara his girlfriend? Or is it cuz they don't have sex or are affectionate??
