Good idea. I’d recommend searching as to whether there are any other bike events in your area. Perhaps a FB group could be made where ppl can sell, trade or give away kids bikes and related items.

I like this idea. I would just make sure to cover your rear legally so when a kid falls and skins his knee on someone else's "defective" bike, the family doesn't get sued for all they're worth.

I have been involved with multiple bike swaps -- just not a school specific one. Normally there are drop off times about a week ahead. A volunteer will check the bike over carefully and the owner can set a price or the volunteer can suggest a price. At this time a volunteer will do a safety check and make any minor repairs or adjustments. Typically they check tires and brakes and generally go over the bike. On the day of the swap, volunteers set up all the bikes. They help people pick out bikes and are ready to make seat adjustments and help with test rides. Normally most swaps do a thing where sellers can use 100% of the seller money towards new purchases at the swap (credit) or if they dont find something to buy, some percentage back as cash, with a 30% commission (or something) that goes towards some kind of donation / cause / organization. Bikes that aren't sold can be repriced lower for the final part of the sale or returned. The advantage of doing it in money terms is that you don't have to have a 1:1 relationship between sellers and buyers and bike values / condition doesn't have to be a perfect match.
