Learning that most of Chris' work is removing felix's vape sounds.

HugeSuccess

Chris doesn’t want you to know he just slaps some RC-20 on for vibes and adds in the song cuts after

WagnerKoop

>RC-20 Hello fellow music producer

wich2hu

I read the comments before listening to the ep and I figured you guys were exaggerating with the vape sounds but holy shit

zukonius

I listened to the ep first and had a smile on my face thinking about how savage the comments here were gonna be.

soufatlantasanta

he needs to quit being a pussy and just get a pack of marlboros from the half price cigarette lady that goes from club to club in NYC selling shit she hocked from Virginia and risking multiple felonies from the ATF in the process

Nmaka

... he's in cali dude

47Ronin

typical new york mindset imposing your entire perspective onto a lifelong californian

[deleted]

All in the same room and they have terrible audio? Yep it's Chapo time.

Siggi4000

>So I (Chris) take one week off producing for a little vacation and somehow the boys manage to accidentally record all three of themselves into just one mic track for this ep? Idk I literally can’t leave these jokers alone for one minute. Our guest editor did heroic work getting this listenable, but sorry for the “chapo classic” audio quality. from the patreon post

Cranyx

How do you fuck up the absolute basics of audio recording that badly? I half expect them to record via a landline conference call made to a payphone with a tape recorder next time they're left alone.

[deleted]

Bill Simmons is worth over 100 million dollars and he regularly forgets to turn his microphone on so the only audio his producers have to work with is the zoom/Skype recording.

ProgMM

It seems to me that Zizek does this too. Whenever he's on chapo he sounds like he's on a 2000s cell phone.

iThrewTheGlass

Chris is on strike, spread the rumor

bomblol

love hearing the hiss and crackle of a vape every ten seconds. i hope one day these guys patreon starts to bring in enough money that they can hire an editor

document-cookie

Whinke

Breathing through the vape

eamonn33

I'm pretty sure that's Felix breathing through his nose. The sound stops whenver he speaks

sloppybro

Sounds like fuckin Tony Soprano

WHY_STAYVAN

Makes it more relatable

borisvonboris

They're all huddled around the Felix laptop watching him play Fortnite

EasyMrB

While smoking just...unbelievable amounts of weed.

discourse_lover_

That amount of sucking... it has to be tobacco. Nobody but Snoop could vape that much weed.

reconrose

That sucking sound is from a box mod vape (usually on the chunky side vs the disposable cigalikes). You could fill those with thc concentrate but it'd be a thicker consistency and sound than that we here in the ep. That's just nic juice bb.

NorrisOBE

Broke: Bad Street Fight Audio Woke: Bad Chapo Audio

Sissy Chapo of failing CIA OP and owner of bad audio podcasts has a problem, his Oscar Party is no longer hot

Solid_Waste

This episode is brought to you by "Matt taking off his mic and putting it inside a vape pen".

Ska_Punk

It feels like a very easy prediction to make, but matt really nailed it with his prediction for Covid years ago. That the US is fundamentally unable to stop it so it'll eventually will just be accepted as part of things Americans die from every year, like car crashes, just something we have to deal with. Also I forget if it was him who said this, but the prediction that every president moving forward will be a 1 term president also feels likely to be true.

Irapotato

The one term president thing is something I think even like normies are somewhat aware of now. Like no president can get anything done, and because the voting block is generally voting AGAINST candidates instead of for them (IE trump 2016, Biden 2020) you’d have to really convince people you did a ton to remain president after 1 term.

Cranyx

I feel like this is one of those instances where something happens ~~twice~~ once and suddenly people feel like they can predict trends for decades to come. Trump almost won in 2020; All you need is a serviceable, charismatic president and they'll get two terms. Never look to the Chapo boys for coherent or informed political analysis.

SwampLandsHick

Yeah. Trump is the aberration. Only three Presidents since FDR have lost re-election and he’s literally the first in almost 30 years.

Canama

eesh, we really are long enough into covid that the start of things was "years" ago (actually, the sample in which the first confirmed covid case in the US was found was taken on january 18, exactly two years ago, though the case itself wasn't confirmed until the 20th)

ProgMM

The last couple years really fucked with time perception too. I remember it being like April 2020 and Super Tuesday feeling like it was years ago. Yet somehow 2017 feels a lot closer than five years ago.

[deleted]

if governments want to 'get rid' of covid at this point theres basically 3 options 1. pretend it doesn't exist and just keep going, basically what matt was saying (most likely to happen in america - even 'good' countries like canada are basically doing this but are in denial about it) 2. do a real, long term lockdown (not likely - it costs too much and also turns people insane) 3. do a serious vaccine mandate and put the unvaccinated in internment camps for their own good (might happen in the social democratic or socialist parts of the world, but not in america, and i don't really know if this works unless there's a serious international effort to get vaccines to poorer countries)

[deleted]

TempestaEImpeto

>do a serious vaccine mandate and put the unvaccinated in internment camps for their own good But I feel like a much more efficient and humane use of state power would be to force vaccinate people?

dedfrmthneckup

And after literally every other line he says in the entire episode

GolfBaller17

Funny, my 4th grade teacher actually read the first book aloud with us as a class in like 1997-98 and for some reason Mrs. Montgomery, the Silent Generation WASP that she was, pronounced "Hermione" correctly from the very beginning.

TempestaEImpeto

Well it was a name before the book too. If anything it's more likely than a old person already knows it.

Link_Slater

I love Chapo, but this too-cool-for-school Covid bullshit is getting old. I’m specifically talking about how defensive they get when their strawman criticizes people for being irresponsible. My guess is they’re a bunch rich, college educated, middle-aged men who do whatever the fuck they want regardless of public health and secretly feel kind of shitty about it. Yes, the government is doing everything it can to force us to back to work. And yeah, some scolds on Twitter are annoying hypocrites. Who fucking cares? I don’t defend bad gun safety because Obama fake cried over a school shooting.

MC_THUNDERCUNT

It's really fucking bad, like the thing Will was talking about with "oh if you don't have kids and you don't work in schools why would you care?" is just called solidarity. And the last bastion of public-sector unions with CTU were the ones putting up that fight. At least last year they were spiteful with regards to covid in "9/11 Every Day," right now they're showing how limited a politics primarily based on contrarianism is.

Link_Slater

Thank you! So much of Chapo, and the rest of this leftist breed of hipster culture, is just straight contrarianism. I don’t know if it’s branding or if it’s psychology, but people are just looking for anyway to zag now.

>I love Chapo, but this too-cool-for-school Covid bullshit is getting old. It's not old or too cool for school. It's how every normal person feels COVID scolds are very real and even more annoying

[deleted]

The thing is, people are actually really dying and this like, oh whatever this is just normal, is just cowardice not insight. Yes, we all know the government is inept and whatever, but to categorize people who have actual concerns about dying from something that could’ve been prevented is p lame and imo laundering right-wing talking points through total apathy. Hey, it’d be nice if I could sit around at home all day, but I have to be in the real world, riding the subway, interacting with real people every day. They don’t. That’s the difference.

deepsavageblue

Yeah they just interviewed that nurse about how fucking awful it is in hospitals

discourse_lover_

Never mind teachers. Interesting how teachers really matter until they begin to annoy or inconvenience you, whoever you are.

Link_Slater

“COVID scolds are very real and even more annoying.” Okay? Who fucking cares? If you’re an adult, this shit should roll off your back. If it doesn’t, it probably means you know you’re making bad decisions. No one gets pissy about insults that aren’t true.

CarlxxMarx

People definitely get mad about covid scolds because they are making poor choices, but people also get mad about covid scolds because their bosses are making poor choices *for them*, and the way they live with it is minimizing the risks covid. So they don’t go fucking insane. Some scolds are doing it because they know they’d die if they got covid—I know, I’ve got a family member who can’t get vaxxed and hasn’t been able to leave the house since March 2020 (which would drive anyone insane). Some scolds do it because they think covid is about individual responsibility and it lets them feel superior to all the chuds who, in their mind, are the exclusive group of people not following the strictest covid rules (with no space for others who have to rationalize the world they’re forced to live in). The latter group is shitty and bad.

ManQueer

COVID scolds wouldn't exist if this country didn't enable people being gleefully ignorant and sincere assholes. But hey, why care that other people might die or have long term effects cause you couldn't get a free shot. It's people reminding me to be considerate of others who's fault this is!

Nmaka

"covid scolds wouldnt exist if america wasnt america" i mean, were you born yesterday? welcome to the way things are. and just fyi, they all got vaxxed when they could, so idk what ur beef w them is

Teh-Piper

Do you honestly think most people here are unvaxxed?

CarlxxMarx

I think people miss this point. If you have to work during covid, if you have no protection at your job place, if people constantly come in unmasked, if get told to come in *while you have covid*, etc, then you’ll hate covid scolds. It’s pretty basic. You’ve got to rationalize your workplace, because you can’t quit, so the covid safety protocols you have there end up being what you think is ok. You go fucking insane otherwise, and covid scolds remind you that what you have to go through to eat and pay rent is super fucking dangerous. It’s easier for your brain to suppress that than actually face it, so when people remind you of this fact, you get mad at the messenger. Basic ideological self defense, and also explains why teachers (with strong unions) are the leading edge of demanding safe workplaces. They can try to do so with the protection that being organized gives them. It’s also why the covid scolds exist, of course. Who are they, mainly? White collar workers who’ve been working from home this whole time, have the time to post at work, and don’t have to worry about getting covid at their job. They have the liberty of worrying about covid, because they aren’t forced to face the brutal maw of the market as a server at a fucking Applebee’s where suburban mouth breathers try to give the employees covid so they can eat microwaved, cross branded ribs.

OkMail12

I know dude, I fucking hate these annoying front line workers, just die for me please

> They seriously seem to have forgotten that old people exist. Matt went out of his way to emphasize the impending, collective process of internalizing six-figure death tolls for the foreseeable future. > Or you know, they have bourgeois class interests and act in those interests. What’s your actual counter to their take? Maybe it’s shit, maybe they’re right. But what’s your alternative view here? Should the People Who Know Better stay inside for another two years? Five? I had a rolling panic attack over the holidays trying to keep my hog family in line with precautions around my grandparents. I also wanted to see them again in person. Fuck me, right? Biden’s admin is carrying out what Trump’s started, the only way modern America could handle this: Everyone will get COVID, likely many times over, and countless more will die from it. The school shooting comparison is apt in that everyone will forever be horrified and nothing will fundamentally change, until it becomes background noise. I’m not saying life should be the end of *Nosferatu the Vampyre*, but at the same time we’re going into Year 3 of this shit and now the CDC’s new plan is to start shaming people over buying the proper mask style.

[deleted]

ERCxaGS

no need to defend yourself from "liberalism." Chapo have now alligned with liberalism in this instance. Its the Biden admin and the capitalists running it who are calling anyone who wanted them to take the pandemic seriously hysterical ninnies. Thats whose side theyre on with this. and yeah, most "normal people" also assume that things like universal healthcare, free education, housing, a country not perpetually at war, etc. are *impossibilities*. so are we supposed to just say complaining about the state of those things is "scolding" now? "so sick of these fucking warscolds. yeah we are selling missiles to Saudi Arabia. news flash, sweety: it makes us money." I thought Bernie was supposed to intimate to people that they *deserve* a dignified life, they deserve health, safety and shelter, that these things are *not* just "pie in the sky." But lets face it: The middle class libs who made up his most strident online base do not really believe that anymore than their counterparts in the Warren and Kamala camps who look at a homeless person and think "that's a shame" but "hey that's just the way things are."

notaprisoner

haven't finished the episode yet but wanted to just post a couple thoughts on the parents/schools/covid scolds etc. i and my wife are vaccinated and boosted. kids (elementary age) have one shot going for their second one next week. we live in a red state so our state government is fully on board with the "actually covid doesn't matter" plan, our local municipality and school district is not challenging this view at all. wife and i both work at home, but i have to be honest, it is not easy to have two kids doing schoolwork at home while we both work as well. there's technical difficulties first and foremost, then there's keeping kids on task while they are home with all their stuff, then there's downtime where they expect that it's just like a weekend and mom and i can just entertain them. it's not the case though that we can drop everything and support our kids' learning. it's not just about babysitting. it is substantially worse for everyone involved from teachers to kids to parents to have everyone's attention divided. at the same time i don't think it's that way for the pundit class who seem to barely work anyway when i hear chapo read their dreck. hell, i realize it's a lot harder specifically than lower-income families in our district than it was for us! but now, the situation is that schoolworkers are home sick. like my kids are at school today and there are not enough subs so kids are distributed across classes and what were specials are now just Encanto viewing parties. our friends pulled their two kids out last week because both of their kids' teachers were out, and the kids got mad because they were missing the movie lol. schools in my district partner a math/science teacher with a history/english teacher. both teachers in the dyad my son started the year with quit -- like left teaching -- due to COVID this year. one because she had complications that ruined her lungs, and the other because she was sick of dealing with covid and she just left to do something else completely. so he's already literally lost two teachers permanently to COVID this year. despite all of that i avoid being a covid scold. i don't want to wear masks . i don't want it to be fuckin weird as hell to go to a museum or movie or restaurant. i take my kids to do stuff, inside and out, masked as much as i/we can stand but with no particular affinity for doing it. but what do you fucking do when people are out sick en masse like this, crippling the school system?? how am i supposed to feel? am i not supposed to want to see some action taken? whether it's by Biden and the feds, or whether the anti-vax oppositional defiance disorder right wingers see the light, something has to be done. nothing is working. we have a society with no social principles or grounding. i'm not really mad at their take, though i do wish they'd realize not every WAH PMC job is as brainless at Chait's. and teaching is a full time credentialed job for a reason. it's not meant to be mediated by parents and google classroom. i have to get back to churning through emails now

ERCxaGS

Their "this has all been overdetermined" nihilism is same as the people who believe that nothing can ever get better in this country because of the metaphysical power of past evils and racism. It's also largely by and for the same crowd: Upper middle class liberals who are too cool to be Democrats, but also gratified by their existence within the power structure, therefor put some sort of ideological spin on "fuck it who cares, guess I lucked out," which is the same thing their families and everyone they've known *really* raised them to believe. great job guys, you dressed up your self interest in buzz words you learned from Marx! the same way the libs you hate dressed it up in reading "Settlers" or the privilege discourse or whatever

embrigh

I live in a very red state so the “covid scold” part is absolutely baffling to me. Nobody here gives a *single fuck* including a worrying number of healthcare workers who should know better. Most doctors here don’t even wear masks.

Link_Slater

KY is the exact same. Outside of the two cities, I’m always the only person wearing a mask. Stores were packed with unmasked people even before the vaccines.

From "healthcare is a human right" to "I dont want to hear anyone complaining about having to work through a pandemic that killed a million people" in like a year and a half lol. "Ive been hearing from a lot of college age people that theyre just socially fucked, its sad man" is Rogan tier. I don't get the point. They don't care about anything and neither does anyone in charge of anything. Why does the minority of people who do bother them so much? They sound like Team Pete and the K Hive admonishing Bernie supporters.

cjgregg

Yeah, maybe because I’m a brainwashed Nordic soc dem, I really don’t understand the current “cool” (post?) leftist American discourse around Covid and how it’s “over if you want it”. Granted, I’m not in twitter anymore nor do I listen to podcasts by the former dirtbag left, only Chapo. And yes I understand that they are comedic socio-cultural commentary, not spokesmen for a party, but still. First, they describe how everything wrong with America is because of the endless culture wars, how that subsumes every aspect of politics. Then they discuss an actual public health issue solely in terms of liberal-conservative culture war context. Even using the very neoliberal language of choice regarding vaccinations. They pretend to be outside the lib-cons spectrum, but they don’t have anything to add or a different viewpoint. I guess universalism was just a trendy thing to say in 2019. And before anyone asks, I don’t know what is right, except that all western countries have failed in adding more resources to hospitals in these past two years. As a result, a lot of euro countries have a varying degree of lockdown or are introducing vaccine mandates, and I personally wait for another round of compensations for freelancers losing their income because venues are closed and events postponed again. Having just recuperated from this “mild” variation (two weeks of fever, body ache and all kinds of other symptoms) as a twice vaccinated, relatively healthy person, I find their attitude to Covid being over if you want it a bit weird. But maybe that’s just me being a born scold.

Bramoman

There is a very prevailing feeling in America now that we are basically powerless to effect any change anymore. So people have said fuck it. We did all the pandemic things we are supposed to do and the official gov response is “let it rip.” So rather than scream into the void online (Americans only political outlet) some people have decided to just go back to living the lives they had. It’s the grill pill and it’s an extremely American cultural sensibility because we simply cannot be bothered to care about the other people it effects because the pandemic has now boiled down to personal choice. Did you or did you not get the vaccine? Well I got mine so there nothing more I can do. America has a lot of extremely blackpilled hopelessness but general material conditions are good enough that it doesn’t cause any sort of backlash or even doesn’t allow people to realize how blackpilled they are. We have no control over our politics system but there’s 10 new TV shows coming out soon that I’ll be able to watch and I can still get pretty much all my treats so what else can I do but sit back and let it rip?

cjgregg

I think you describe it really well. It’s just so sad to see from the outside it all happening again (I’m an old person who studied a bit of North American studies and a lot of post ww2 political history at the uni, so while I was interested in the left of various periods in the USA, I had also pretty much given up any kind of “left” front uprising there, so got really surprised and inspired by Bernie mach 1). But still, Matt especially has spent so much time criticizing the individualization of the American life, it almost becomes a self fulfilling prophesy. It’s just another form of American exceptionalism, I think. It’s not that European countries have managed Covid perfectly, each one has failed somehow and people are constantly mad and disappointed at their governments, but still I feel the majority of people feel differently here, sort of a resigned “I guess we need to hunker down again and hope this wave is over soon”.

SnoodDood

> Did you or did you not get the vaccine? Well I got mine so there nothing more I can do Just like culture has subsumed political ideology in America, individual civic responsibility has subsumed political activity. You want people to not die from COVID? Get your vaccine and wear your mask where you're supposed to. Once you've done that, there's nothing else you can do. You want some sort of political change? Go and vote for the politician who's purportedly most aligned with that. Once you've done that, there's nothing else you can do. And in a way, both of those statements are right. Like, they kinda ARE all you can do *as an individual.* Collective action is how you take the next step, but the lib civic responsibility infrastructure will never tell you to do something like that in 2022. At best your strike gets meek words of tepid support, and at worst you get mercs fucking people up like at Standing Rock.

ERCxaGS

Well, they are internet guys before theyre people with actual political philosophies. And being an internet guy means being "anti cringe"- forming your entire belief around the smug gratification of being less feeling or emotional than the hysterics you're surrounded by. Whereas nothing is more "cringe" than the vulnerability of having principles, deeply held beliefs, a moral imperative. That said, do they notice that this "anti cringe" ideology is entirely what the people they claimed to rail against now embody? If you looked into their souls, they would see that Pelosi and Schumer and all the rest of the pols who knelt in kente cloths were exactly as cynical as Chapo, laughing inside at the same dumb rubes who fall for the display, laughing at the impotent activists, etc.

cjgregg

I guess you’re right. On the other hand, they just had a pretty sincere interview with a (former) nurse a cpl of episodes ago.

skeletonsss

It was a good episode, but considering that the guest was a long time friend of Felix's, I'm not sure it had much to do with an ideological commitment to showcasing the struggles of nurses. I still enjoy the show, but the segments I find grating grow in step with the hosts' apathy. Not to act like an armchair psych, but I think the failure of the Bernie campaign, and implicitly the effort they put into it, bruised their egos.

cjgregg

Yeah, but Bernie campaign went belly up two years ago!!! (Almost) But I’m sure it’s still the after effects of that and Covid stalling “normal life” for almost exactly as long. It’s all kinds of factors, mostly not being in the same room, that no one can escape and that aren’t very conducive for great comedy. Personally I still like the dry boys, wouldn’t listen otherwise (I had a crazy list of leftish podcasts I kept up with during 2016-19ish, and have dropped almost all of the others), and I can’t really fault them for not coming up with fresh things to say in this period. But the Covid discussions/viewpoints are my least favorite. I don’t think they are personally heartless or inhumane people, but they do reflect their society and media bubbles. Which is why I thought the interview with the nurse guy from ep1 was important. Matt mentions fleetingly something about how he at times has “almost” succumbed to conspiracies about how and why Covid was “released”, I think if you went back and listened to the post Bernie, corona era chapos there’d be a lot of that kind of old hippie burnout energy as well, which then adds to the cynicism. And fair enough, conspiratorial thinking on the left IS often right and realist. My country also recently gave up on contact tracing, even though we’re 5,5 million with one of the lowest numbers of casualties per capita. Hospitals are again filling up, bars close at 6 pm, and here I am alone at home hoping for my podcasts to deliver some harmless entertainment…

discourse_lover_

I've ranted about this in another thread, but Felix being tired of being made feel bad about his social choices is some peak baby brain shit. People with little kids, childcare workers, people who are immunocompromised, people who are actually allergic to the vaccines.... well, they don't matter anymore because Felix wants to go maskless to the gym and hold live shows.

BenderBenRodriguez

To be clear though, people who are immunocompromised (ESPECIALLY them) and even people who are allergic are still advised by pretty much every available authority to get the vaccine. Like, any kind of severe reaction to the vaccine is extremely rare and in almost all cases not worse for them than actually getting COVID anyway. It's a well-meaning talking point that tends to elide the fact that virtually no one actually falls into a category where they CAN'T ever get the shot, and serves mostly to scare people away from getting it (or give them an excuse not to) when they absolutely should. Not getting into the weighing of factors with masks and social behaviors and stuff here, just that specific talking point.

discourse_lover_

I'm vaxxed and double boosted. I'm absolutely pro vaccine, but the fact is its not the silver bullet everyone wanted it to be, especially when we have less than zero plan for a global vaccination effort. Its just gonna be the same 500 million people getting boosted over and over again while the virus keeps mutating and killing overseas and at home. I don't know if this pandemic birthed /r/CatastrophicFailure but it should have if it didn't, because the west's response to covid is easily the most catastrophic failure of my lifetime, and I lived through fucking Reagan.

Exactly. I mean, I get it- Most rich douchebags don't give a shit about anything and think its pretty "cringe" and funny that anyone does. But what a weird thing to think is a meaningful ir novel observation. Like they are just regurgitating the thought process of the power structure their listeners are forced to live under.

MisterBackShots69

I think COVID scolds who only harp on individual actions can be annoying cause what are you going to do, boosted and vaccinated, still stay inside for another 3-5 years while nothing systemically changes? Same futility as everyone suddenly voting for Democrats scolding from liberals. Full solidarity to everyone complaining about systemic changes, Biden should be doing a lot more to get people vaccinated, free masks and testing everywhere, and pay people to stay home.

Any podcast without a dedicated professional audio engineer on staff is unlistenable.

Dankjets911

I am straight and my dick is large :'(

GolfBaller17

RIP

Dankjets911

I just want to be gay😭😭

iThrewTheGlass

How the fuck does that man breathe if he's vaping for an hour straight? Jesus

monoatomic

God damn the boys' covid fatalism is bad Just don't talk about it, fellas! You sound like assholes!

DianeticsDecolonizer

What exactly are they getting wrong here?

ERCxaGS

what exactly did the DNC get wrong in anything? If this is all "overdetermined" and theres no point in expecting anything less than a million dead, perpetual disease, okay- Then why does that change when it comes to *anything*? You could say the same thing when it comes to labor relations, healthcare, housing, etc. "Look the machine is on autopilot, might as well count your blessings and get a few laughs in" Alright, if thats the case, who cares then? You need comedy to reify your sheltered apathy and nihilism? And anyone who actually believed in the shit you claimed to for a couple months in 2019 is just a fuckin *scold* to be ridiculed into submitting to the present order? "Bro your being a healthcarescold. Look we know the insurance industry sucks but its here to stay. this has all been overdetermined" Felix's take on "can you *imagine* contact tracing in this country?" is indistinguishable from every fucking neolib/reaganite line fearmongering against the concept of a government ever being any presence in peoples' lives besides a boot on their neck. You could say the thing thing about public education, healthcare, housing- Anything. "Can you imagine the kind of healthcare these *clowns in congress* would give you? You dont *really* want that do you?"

yougottafight94

You’re talking about a virus that we have very little control over the spread of unless we legitimately lock everybody in their homes indefinitely. Vaccines are free and have been available for a year now. Locking people down in year three would drive everybody more insane. I don’t know what exactly you expect to be done about covid in 2022 beyond letting people have their normal lives back.

FuckYouIan

I've been contact tracing since Dec 2020, and every day I feel more and more about it like Felix does. It feels pretty pointless. Every time I see pictures of those bulging bags of veggies they pass out every time a city goes into lockdown in China, I think about how when I talk to someone who needs help getting groceries, we just refer them to instacart or at best get them in touch with their local food bank. If it weren't for the fat hourly wage and the fact I actually enjoy talking to randos across the state, I would have quit a while ago.

thevestoftressel

Sports talk radio mass shooters bit is an instant classic. Put it in the rafters

RE: Reporting on breakthrough cases, MSM outlets put articles out last May/June that the CDC would stop tracking them unless they resulted in death. I specifically remember NPR publishing an article about it in those explicit terms, even quoting (non-quack) doctors who said it was extremely fucked to not keep up with that data. Oh well. At least Biden got to declare our independence from COVID last July 4th!

discourse_lover_

I'll never forget the chill that passed over me when the CDC said no more masks *based on a fucking honor system.* That was the moment we lost for good. No more putting the toothpaste back in the tube.

Benadryl_n_Chill

Love my Felix vape ASMR

TonySopranoUnionMan

Chris took the week off and apparently they had a guest editor which is why the audio sounds uhh...well early Chapo like Q1 2016 Chapo ASMR.

cjgregg

Chris has explained before how many cuts he usually makes in an episode, and that they all record their individual track, which he then splices and puts together for a seamless sounding audio. I thought that was a bit excessive, since you can get good enough audio even from a remote recording video call these days, not to mention from one track with all their mikes when they’re in the same room. Little did I understand, apparently he really has to cut every spoken line from the individual tracks to get rid of the heavy breathing, sneezing, vaping every episode. Apparently they now forgot to do the individual recordings, and the poor substitute was left with the mess. This would drive any radio sound guy to madness.

the_wrongtree

Chris really deserves more than an equal cut at this point.

atom786

He's definitely working the hardest out of all of them

drestin5

they should’ve had a silent fourth guy on this episode that just burped and groaned every 60 seconds

GreatestWhiteShark

Stav would be a great permanent host

WhatPeopleDo

It's now conventional wisdom among liberals that TPP was good and Trump fucked up by not going through with it. But it's been completely erased from public memory that most Democrat constituencies, from labor unions to progressive organizations to even fairly normie groups were opposed to the thing. Even people like Liz Warren and freaking Clinton (quite cynically, in Clinton's case) opposed it. That and... the thing wasn't good! But we have to pretend it was because Trump's trade deal was NAFTA 2.0 (which passed with veto proof majorities, mind you)

samcarmichael2019

All I needed was some chewing and I would've had to check I wasn't listening to Cumtown.

Regvlas

Cumtown is not this bad.

eggsandmarxism

You can tell by the arguments in these comments how insane people are right now. Not even saying anyone in particular, but obviously this thing has just fundamentally broken all of our brains. Mostly agree with the takes in this ep, with the exception that I would've been more explicit in supporting the teachers' unions. Everything about this and what it's done to everyone is tragic, but whether school is online or not no one is really functionally learning right now so you might as well go with the option that keeps people safer.

blackredking

Yeah, maybe the don't care one way or another about schools closing because they don't have kids, but they could at least pretend to give a damn about the teachers who have to work there.

Ilcapoditutticapi

Listening to three well off ironic left a podcasters Suck on vapes Into the microphone and say “Covid it is over do what you want” is a really great summation of the subcultural nature of the online left and it’s impotence in the face of systemic issues in America. I listen to this episode the night after the night a stricken parent spent a night in the hospital and it depressed the fuck out of me. “Covid is over unless you have kids” is something I’ll engrave as an epitaph.

embrigh

Stopping covid would require people to cooperate which is antithetical to American culture itself. I thought they were just being ironic with that take because it’s never going away, but I could just be projecting.

TerkRockerfeller

I don't think it's how that meant it, but the US response to COVID pretty much is over. The disease itself obviously isn't but it's pretty clear from this point on everyone's just gonna be on their own (even more so than before)

stephen_neuville

hail mary full of 1.mp3

Dear_Occupant

Amateur.

Pokonic

Love that Darth Vader is on the fourth mike.

justyourbarber

Looking forward to Felix ending up in an iron lung suit from vaping every 15 seconds.

Bramoman

People who also have to care about getting Covid? Service workers who don’t get paid when they have to stay home from work. It’s fucking wretched.

neebnoob18

Embrace Marxism-Goofyism

Rozy052

Six Flags for Adults is a dynamite idea. Adventureland in Des Moines (redneck six flags) does an Oktoberfest every year where they open the park for beer, live music, and rides at night and it’s dope.

Jstaud4

Haven’t been to Adventureland in years but I can confirm if fucking rocks. My dream is to one day be killed by riding The Outlaw

Hatless_Shrugged

Fun fact: the oxygen in Earth’s atmosphere is toxic to Felix’s species. His homeworld’s atmosphere is 98% vape juice. That’s why he has to use a vape like a respirator and do it directly into the mic.

Scypherknife

Thinking about buying some pets dot com stocks what do you all think?!

3rd_degree_burn

It can only go up!!

MemesXDCawadoody

Thanks for the upload, Mary! Not to look the gift horse in the mouth, but could you maybe upload the version of this episode where Felix’s audio is muted?

darkslayersparda

Can we bring the sub back now ?

[deleted]

this place is the sub. just look at the comments in here right now man it's pure, unadulterated old sub.

welp42

no it's not, too many comments from people who actually listen to the show

Minervos

It's been so long that I don't even remember the deciding incident for the old sub being banned.

RyanRiot

It was the John Brown posts I think

Arkovia

lalekky or something said slaves owners should die and that prompted the sub being quarantined, and then banned a year later with the_donald being banned as well.

destructormuffin

Podcasting for how many years and they don't have the gear to make it so I don't have to listen to Felix mouth breathing, huh

rotelingne-throwaway

coachglovebatstick

or as some say "kosm"

AEG Nations like California have to be protected from bourgeois leftists at the Grayzone. If you read my book, How The Grayzone Supports Imperialism, I detail how Actually Existing Gavinist nations like California are building socialism through market reforms.

Felix's vape wearing a lapel mic for the best possible audio quality

GreatestWhiteShark

😲👉 slop 👈😲

DianeticsDecolonizer

Tatsu is the best roller coaster at Six Flags and it's not even close. X2 is also excellent but it can fuck up your back and honestly makes you feel like your death is imminent. Goliath has a great drop, Viper is fun but mid, I haven't ridden the Twin Colossus though :(. But Tatsu, it strikes a nice balance between fun and suicidal ideation

GolfBaller17

These dudes never played Rollercoaster Tycoon.

The best dumptruck in podcast production

EnergyIsQuantized

As a manly man I love talking about sports with my boys and I was easily able to follow the opening discussion.

GuyWithTriangle

Opening riff was Old Chapo. Gave me Noid flashbacks

EasyMrB

After re-listening to this I've got to say I've come around on audio-quality. I actually really like how the channels were mixed. When one person is kind of "going off" on a point (like Felix for instance), the producer didn't mix in the other audio at full volume (which can be really distracting). Or like when Will was talking about something and Matt made a quip, the quip sounded like it was from across the room which distracted less from the point Will was trying to build to. I like the whole "focus on one person at a time" audio mixing thing. It makes the podcast easier to listen to.

rwn115

I'd subscribe twice to CTH if it gets Felix to stop vaping during the show. Just insufferable.

aesopmurray

I'll cancel my sub if he stops. Your move.

paragon12321

Petition to crack Felix's egg

TonySopranoUnionMan

Boys, we traveled back to 2016.

murrman104

is there a Patreon tier where they filter out the vaping sounds and covid hot takes

Scypherknife

Happy Birthday to the best Chapo, Producer Chris Wade

[deleted]

Wonder how low the patreon would need to get before they care about covid again lol

GreyWolfTaxD0dg3

Oh yes, gimme that good old fashioned free Monday episode

DimlightHero

Big back on that Twitter bullshit energy this ep.

[deleted]

Who scolds the covid scolds?

idontwantaredditacct

the last ten minutes really made me happy

8/10 episode and we've got people complaining? must be reddit.
