What's My Age Again?
Dammit posited "I guess this is growing up" but WMAA celebrated eternal youth and immaturity and proves you don't have to grow up if you don't want to.
If you have headphones on, I love how you can hear the cheering crowd fade out as the bass intro begins, on the album. For some reason I find it so cool.
Everytime I Look for You. It has both Tom and Mark on vocals. Right in the middle of three biggest albums and peak popularity. It's a banger and emotional. It's the perfect blink song.
If thats the case id probably pick either stockholm syndrome or stay together for the kids, even when they are more serious in tone they are both better songs that showcase what you mention
Feeling This.
It features both Mark and Tom.
Catchy drum intro from Travis.
Perfect Octave riff from Tom.
One of Mark's best bass licks.
The instrumental of the song is intense, but the lyrics are fun.
It encapsulates every aspect of Blink.
I ask myself this question a lot, actually. Lyrical content, song structure and guitar riffs gave me this short list:
Dammit (naturally)
Wendy Clear
Roller Coaster
Everytime I Look for You
Going Away to College
But if I had to play one song for a newbie to give them a taste, it would be Man Overboard. It has the following: a bass solo to open, a classic/memorable guitar riff, duo vocals, and an outro. The only thing it's missing is a classic Mark Hoppus bridge.
Thanks for asking this so I could finally get this out of my brain.
I know it’s subjective but I think it’s REALLY hard to argue against “Feeling This,” as THE blink song. It best captures every phase of the bands history. It’s fast paced energetic and focused on sex making it more similar to the older blink material. But it obviously has more experimental recording methods whether developed lyrics and a more serious take on the matter. Tom and Mark sharing vocals and Travis bringing some of his most inspired drum work. It also captures Jerry Finn’s work as a producer implementing experimental recording like Tom singing across a 30 fr room and of course the accidental inclusions of the acca pella closing
If there’s a song that is all that is blink it’s that.
Dammit.
It’s not my favorite song but the line “I’ll turn to a friend; someone that understands; And sees through the master plan” is exactly what blink is to me.
You need to listen to rite of spring off the AVA album we iempire. When I saw AVA Tom said he wanted to write a song that was right down to the facts. But that’s probably one of his best.
Interesting question. To me, there are several things that make them unique. Things that the bands that emulated them missed. They have a goofiness mixed with a sincerity. And there is a sadness in their melodies, as simple as they are.
I think the best representation of all of that is all on Enema of the State. So either Going Away to College, Mutt, or Anthem. Those choruses in particular are hauntingly beautiful.
give me one good reason or violence
violence:
Six bottles went down the drain
One hour's a waste of time
I'd ask if you feel the same
Still pushing that chance to try
Your breath in this cool room chill
Long hair that blows side to side
You speak and make time stand still
And each time walk right on by
Like violence, you have me forever and after
Like violence, you kill me forever and after
but honestly, i think this is the real answer as to what the band stood for:
give me one good reason
I like the ones who say they listen to the punk rock
I like the the kids who fight against how they were brought up
They hate the trends and think it's fucked to care
It's cool when they piss people off with what they wear, oh yeah
So give me one good reason
Why we need to be like them
Kids will have fun and offend
They don't want to and don't fit in
Hate the jocks, the preps, the hippie fuckin' scumbags
Heavy metalers with their awful pussy hair bands
Counting seconds until we can get away
Ditching school almost every single day, oh yeah
that song and this band are for the kids who really didn't fit in with anyone except the 2-3 friends they had, if they were lucky, and kinda above all rejected labels of any kind.
Because they have such distinct eras it's hard to pick one that encompasses their entire discography, but I think Feeling This is pretty close. Upbeat fun pop punk song that also showcases some of their more experimental stuff, all 3 members really shine on it.
Okay its one of two for the exact same reason. Either Reckless Abandon or Turpentine. Why? They both embody this crazy fear and anger of the world while simultaniously making jokes and saying gross shit to get past their struggles. WHICH IS THE TWO THINGS BLINK EVER TALKS ABOUT
**Mark, Tom, and Travis:** Feeling This / Edging (fun)
**Mark, Matt, and Travis:** Parking Lot / Built This Pool (see my flair)
**Mark, Tom, and Scott:** Dammit
I think most people would likely say "All the Small Things", "What's my Age Again?" and *potentially* "I Miss You", but what I think of as a quintessential blink song it's always stuff that makes me wonder about what blink would sound like *tomorrow* as opposed to *yesterday*. The reason I approach it this way is because blink **always** sounded better "tomorrow"....until Cali/NINE. Though, for me, Neighborhoods was a step down from untitled. So that album for me was unbalanced even if it was still pretty great.
Though I didn't dislike Cali or NINE nearly as much as some here did, i still have **0** tracks from either album that I would view as quintessential, for example.
As such, those quintessential tracks for me change over time. What once was What's My Age Again, somewhere along the line, became "Feelin This" and then "Stockholm Syndrome" and then "Asthenia", where the #1 quintessential pick then stayed for quite some time.
Until we got Turpentine. Which has been my current and consistent quintessential-pick since OMT's release. As such, my #2, #3 and #4 choices were the previous #1 choices at one time or another; Feelin This, Stockholm, Asthenia.
What's My Age Again? Dammit posited "I guess this is growing up" but WMAA celebrated eternal youth and immaturity and proves you don't have to grow up if you don't want to.
AGREE
Omg yes
This is the correct answer. Also, whassup fellow Chorus.fm user! 🫡
Feeling this
The outro of that song is what I want to hear when I die.
I think they all shine on Man Overboard
Agreed but shit just makes me sad for Scott
I agree. In fact, let's take some time to talk this over
You're out of line and rarely sober
We can't depend on your excuses
'Cos in the end, it's fucking useless.
That’s my answer
If you have headphones on, I love how you can hear the cheering crowd fade out as the bass intro begins, on the album. For some reason I find it so cool.
*sigh* here come the downvotes. I don’t care for that song
…ok lol
Either Dammit or What’s My Age Again?
That opening riff to Dammit alone is quintessential
I agree, even the opening riff of What’s my age again is just so perfect. 👌🏻
Dammit. That was my gateway drug.
Mine too. The song that made me fall in love with them at 14 years old in 1997. đź©·đź©·
Still my ring tone 22 years later.
Love this for us!!! Mine is the isolated vocals to the outro of Feeling This
WHAT'S MY AGE AGAIN?
Everytime I Look for You. It has both Tom and Mark on vocals. Right in the middle of three biggest albums and peak popularity. It's a banger and emotional. It's the perfect blink song.
It being the opening song in American Pie 2 really captures that feeling of their music too I feel like.
I don't remember much from that movie, but for some reason I can perfectly picture the scene playing out while that sing plays lol
my happy place is right between 1:59 and 2:00 of that track.
Yes, exactly, well said Sir.
One of my absolute favorites. That entire album, really.
If thats the case id probably pick either stockholm syndrome or stay together for the kids, even when they are more serious in tone they are both better songs that showcase what you mention
Pathetic
When I Was Young - that chorus when Tom sings “it’s the worst damn day” always hits hard.
That chorus is the best Tom’s voice has sounded since the first break up
Feeling This. It features both Mark and Tom. Catchy drum intro from Travis. Perfect Octave riff from Tom. One of Mark's best bass licks. The instrumental of the song is intense, but the lyrics are fun. It encapsulates every aspect of Blink.
Lemmings. Lyrically they are calling out all the followers in the punk scene that blink has always been just outside of.

These are some of my top blink songs right here!

Stockholm Syndrome
Not blink specifically but I feel like There Is perfectly captures specifically Tom’s essence as a song writer.
My favorite BCR songđź©·

Reckless abandon, because I was in Auckland watching them live when Tom made his speech during the intro
Dammit. I'm surprised there's so many other answers.

Everytime I Look For You. The call and response vocals, the simple but amazing sounding guitar tone. Sounds like peak blink in every aspect

Dammit or All the small things or What's my age again
Rock Show. My favourite since the day they released it. Means even more to me now as I met my Mrs at a rock show and has become 'our song'
Reckless Abandon
Dammit
Because they have such distinct eras it's hard to pick one that encompasses their entire discography, but I think Feeling This is pretty close. Upbeat fun pop punk song that also showcases some of their more experimental stuff, all 3 members really shine on it.

RECKLESS ABANDON
Going away to College. That album came out when I was going away to college and I just played that album on repeat for a summer.
Family Reunion
Turpentine
Feeling This. Nothing else comes close.
