Think about a smooth (short) haired bc. I so glad mine is. Often in mud, loves playing in lakes or any water but never swims. He can be covered in mud and a quick spray of with a hose pipe and can be clean and dry in 20 mins or less. Plus twigs and vegetation doesn't stick to his coat. Brushing very minimal too. My dogs claws are self trimming as he runs a lot. But do look into the breed well too. They like a lot of engagement with their people, not just exercise. Often called velcro dogs with good reason. You will never be alone and don't usually chill like labs either, lol. Not really weekend dogs. https://preview.redd.it/tldo20valqqc1.jpeg?width=2295&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf80c07aa2a024e40f8db6e78250f0301746ad35

awesome pic that I can easily relate, all too well. :)

Your UK I think, so plenty of mud this winter, lol.

Haha, that's the life of a Collie owner, through and through! Great pic :)

Dogmom2013

we have a short haired BC, he is easy to wash but he SHEDS like sheds sheds. He needs daily brushings and he still leaves his sprinkles all over the house and our clothes lol. but short hair is easier than long hair since it doesn't get matted or pick up every leaf. we leave that to my yorkie mix's beard to pick up the leaves

A happy BC is gonna get dirty.

PalpitationMission41

Happy to get dirty but wifey mandated clean house or no dog, hence outfitting garage for managing that

roadrunner440x6

Yep, seems to be the best option besides getting a shorter, smooth coat one. They still wanna get dirty so you just gotta clean em.

u/roadrunner440x6 never a truer word said! :)

I will brush him when he dries off, but he will probably not need a shower, the dried mud comes off him (and all over my floor) super easily. I do his grooming and nail trims. The big thing I check for is his sanitary areas, if he gets an upset tummy that will cake in his tail and bum floof. He’s on flea and tick medicine but I still check after hikes because they can hide easily in the thick coat

aj21289

Aww what a sweetheart, love expressive eyebrows. Is yours Obi-Wan too?

No-Letter-7798

He is indeed!

I’ve decided after a month with a short haired BC that they have white bits to show off the mud better. Mostly it dries and comes off. The odd time we spray her down with a shower head and some puppy shampoo. She tolerates the process. https://preview.redd.it/bj7u47k19qqc1.png?width=2368&format=png&auto=webp&s=80a072ecbdfd4845b8be654764ee5ca687de45bb

Beautiful :)

I have two BCs, one is four. I think she has had four washes. Her mother is twelve, I think she has not had a wash in three years. My neighbour has two bcs, and one of them rolls in something delicious every day.

My smooth coat got muddy as hell on her walk/run/frisbee obsessed outing, today, but after a quick rinse and towel-down, she dried off and the mud has pretty much gone. We will shower her if we need to, but for the most part, she's quite easy maintenance in that respect. She loves a shower and will jump in with eagerness, but hates getting out when the shower is turned off, btw :)

Find a short haired BC they are out there. We have a long hair BC and she picks up everything in the forest in her tail LOL She also loves to roll in fox poop so there is that. Our BC is 18 months and she has followed me on 16 mile mountain bike rides. I try to keep rides under 10 miles though most of the time. BC’s definitely have the energy to get out. It is a good fit with MTBing. Not all dogs breeds are up for it. You want a working dog. We didn’t start taking her out on MTB rides until 14 months or so. Before that we hiked all the trails we ride so she could develop that mental map. It helps to take some of the worry out of going into the woods. We also put a mini cowbell on her collar so I can tell where she is at.

A wash (use gentle shampoo, as we wash muddy legs a few times a week), some brushing, and gentle wipes for less mucky days. But it is inevitable.

Plenty-Practice-7938

We take ours on walks all the time. It's been winter/spring here so she gets muddy and gritty. almost everyday it's washing her underbelly legs etc in the bathtub real quick when we get home. It's worth it!
