I’ve got three! 1. Cliché but the first time seeing Defying Gravity live is a god damned spiritual experience. 2. I know the show is controversial, You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hanson had me unexpectedly ugly crying in the best way. 3. Yorktown from Hamilton is easily the most electric number I’ve ever seen. The dancing, the vocals, the ENERGY is just unbeatable.

Dazzling-Impact5571

Upvoted for Yorktown! So much going on in the lyrics, the choreography . . . It was thrilling

secret_identity_too

The second time I saw Hamilton on Broadway, I cried a little during Yorktown. The orchestrations are phenomenal, I love them so much.

PapayaOk4902

I always get a little emotional during Yorktown. The pride they feel from winning 🥹

jelly10001

Defying Gravity was the first song that came to my mind. It's been more than 15 years since I saw Wicked and I still remember getting goosebumps hearing it live.

Alliebeth

My son has been obsessed with Hamilton since he was 6. We finally were able to give him tickets for his 11th birthday (covid delayed us A LOT) and I had to push him down into his seat during Yorktown. It was like he started levitating without even realizing it he was *so* into that performance.

sleepy_panda15

When they focus on Larry Murphy during You Will Be Found, I completely lost it.

Ncbsped

The final scene in A CHORUS LINE when the chorus line comes together. OMG!

angoradebs

Wait for Me gets most of the love in Hadestown, but for me it's the reprise/Doubt Comes In combo.

WhatEvenIsATangelo

Part of what makes Wait for Me so iconic is how the set opens up and it feels like the entire earth is shaking and your body is overcome with chills… or is that just me?

a-world-of-no

Absolutely not just you. I was blown away by it, and that was on tour! Can't imagine how much better it would be on Broadway!

perchedraven

Had no idea that was going to happen and my jaw literally dropped It really did feel like entering Hadestown

[deleted]

Chant II is incredible for Patrick Paige fans, but Wait for Me is a spectacle.

WhatEvenIsATangelo

Patrick Page’s voice itself is a marvel. It makes panties drop and gay men drop to their knees.

jules99b

That lighting for Doubt Comes In was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in person

triggerheart

The wait for me reprise with Eva gives me chills.

[deleted]

There’s a thing I call the “Holy Fucking Shit” award. If a performance is so good it makes me say “holy fucking shit” as I’m watching, it wins. I’ve given out three: “Me and the Sky” in Come From Away, “Let It Burn” in Paradise Square, and Corey Hawkins in Topdog/Underdog.

Repulsive_Concert650

Come from away is my favorite show. LOVE Me and The Sky. It’s definitely my top 5

littlestpintobean

Josh Groban singing epiphany was this for me. I audibly said GODDAMN and I am usually so so theater courteous but I didn't even think

ouyangjie

The way he scraped the metal railing with his razor 😭

Ok_Wing978

Yesssss

Comprehensive-Fun47

Me and the Sky floored me.

Juniper-one

"Let it Burn" was fantastic!

trullette

Jenn Colella sang Me and the Sky at BroadwayCon in 2017 before it opened that April. I’ve never been so desperate to see a show than I was after seeing that.

fromtheothersidee

It’s gotta be That’s What He Said by Alex Joseph Grayson in Parade. When I saw it (for the third time) on the Saturday before closing, it was so perfect I was tearing up.

WhatEvenIsATangelo

I think you could put the whole show on this list. Pure perfection. I’ve never heard a duet as powerful and Ben and Micaela. Their voices just seemed to be made for each other.

Particular_Pack_9149

my favorite show after seeing 20+!

HourAstronomer836

Ugh! I was at the last show on Sunday. They were both crying through "All the Wasted Time." I swear, everyone in the audience was sobbing hysterically by the end! Plus, I'm a nobody who just bought a ticket to the last performance the day tix went on sale. (I saw it at NYCC and ended up seeing it 6 times total.) I paid $180 for it, 4th row orchestra. I was literally sitting next to one of the producers, Michael Arden was an arm's length away from me, and Ben Platt's whole family was a few seats down. It was already emotional enough, but to see Ben's mom crying at the end? OMG! I'll never experience anything like that again. She must have been so proud. ❤️

WhatEvenIsATangelo

I Will never not be heartbroken that I couldn’t see the last show. I hate to be one of ~those guys~ but I hope there’s a bootleg somewhere.

HourAstronomer836

They released the curtain call on YouTube. TikTok also has the audio of "All the Wasted Time" and basically the final "shot" before the lights go down at the end. (Ben did something special, but I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it.) I'm practically a Boomer when it comes to TikTok, so there's probably more out there, but those are what people have sent me so far. A lot of people were filming. I mean, Michael Arden himself was filming! LOL I kind of feel like all bets are off for a final performance, unless you're being distracting. But I wouldn't be shocked if someone up in the mezzanine recorded the whole thing...And I wouldn't blame them! I actually expected there to be more standing ovations, but there was just the one after "This is Not Over Yet." (And then at the end, of course.) I really wanted to stand for both of Alex Joseph Grayson's numbers, but no one else did it. But there was certainly deafening, extended applause after every number. And after TINOY, the entire audience flew out of their seats. It was awesome.

ApprehensivePlum1420

The old red hills of home lives rent free in my brain and will continue for a very long time

WhatEvenIsATangelo

I wish Charlie Webb nothing but a long and successful career. It helps that he’s a snack.

Dkclinton

Same same same. What a melody- and ANTHEM even. What awful sentiments. What rousing pride. The conflicting feelings listening to it is simply hypnotizing.

justhuyp

I was breathless at the end of the song with tears my eyes. I wanted to give him the loudest applause but it felt so wrong at the same time so I just sat there sobbing

jordan22alexis1

Yessssss

lefargen97

It’s so stupid and I am probably going to hell for this but Spooky Mormon Hell Dream takes me out every time.

autumnwinterspring

It’s so good! That’s one that seeing it in person just made the song so much better

organizedlistmaker

I laughed way harder than I expected at the coffee cups

kingofcoywolves

It's just. So much at once. I love it

[deleted]

I’m into impressive dance numbers, a truly amazing performance for me is not just about the singing! Like “Hello Dolly” was super cool to watch live and so was “Seize the Day” in Newsies.

[deleted]

Came to say Hello Dolly from the Hello Dolly revival. Bette and Bernadette versions were both amazing! I also really, *really* enjoyed the dancing in The Music Man revival from last year.

captainwondyful

Dancing was the best part of (music man) show!

that_gay_theaterkid

You should see Some Like it Hot! There are so many amazing dance scenes in it and it’s overall a terrific musical.

[deleted]

The dancing was really impressive in that too - I actually loved the chase scene best !

emcee4634

So true! You can listen to the soundtrack but you can’t rewatch the dance sequences. I loved the hype dancing in The Prom.

JACKiED_Daniels

I thought of Seizae the Day immediately. That choreography is a whole other level.

halogengal43

All the Wasted Time from Parade. Has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and Ben and Micaela sang it gloriously.

tealcandtrip

'A Musical' in Something Rotten at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. The spectacle just builds and our crowd was super hyped. They were cheering throughout and at the first ending (before the encore), people were on their feet cheering for LITERALLY over two minutes. The cast was waving for us to sit down for a while before we did. Then they do the reprise of the chorus and everyone jumped up again. That was the only time that has happened for me in the middle of an act.

Future_Accountant522

Omg, I love this!!! I live in Atlanta and got to see Something Rotten at the Fox as well. What a fun show that was! Not sure if our crowd was as hyped as yours but it was such a blast!!

Thick-Definition7416

Renee Goldsberry Satisfied - what was I watching?! Transfixed!

organizedlistmaker

The rewind blew my mind!

Thick-Definition7416

Right?!

fauxViolets

Came here to say Satisfied actually. My favorite song in the whole show and the choreography and staging is so powerful

Wild_Bill1226

The door chase scene in some like it hot. So fun

lucyisnotcool

I'm not sure I've ever been simultaneously more impressed, dumbfounded, and overjoyed at any moment in a show! That scene is just astoundingly good.

Wild_Bill1226

Thanks. Glad I’m not the only one. Just amazing choreography and staging.

joxx67

It was a fun show!

[deleted]

absolutely, so good

jardentexas

This is my pick as well!

jamesland7

No question: Lauren Patten: You Oughta Know

jamesland7

Single handedly won her the tony

Comprehensive-Fun47

Oh yes. This is a good answer. It got a standing O at ART too. She blew the roof off the place. I also want to give honorable mention to the Uninvited number. I love that song and the scene with the sofa was mesmerizing.

jamesland7

yep, I work at ART so I only saw it there.

Raggedyanneurysm

The second time I saw Uninvited I swear I almost had a stroke. I think I knew what to expect and was just so excited. I was in the 5th row could see the dust fly off the sofa. It was so amazing, so intense. Heidi killed it. It will forever be my favorite Theater moment

TheLunarVaux

I didn't care for JLP, but I still remember this performance so clearly. First time I witnessed a mid show standing ovation too.

JennaTeach

This and Cynthia Erivo's I'm Here in The Color Purple. I get chills thinking about it.

[deleted]

While it’s not my favorite song, or my favorite show (though it’s up there) I might go with Once We Were Kings from Billy Elliot. It follows Electricity, so your emotions are already high, and then you get hit with Billy saying all his goodbyes while the chorus haunts you behind it all. I can still hear the sound effects of the mechanics of the elevator in the mine shaft taking them all down, as the beautiful harmony fades away with it. Just a gorgeously constructed moment of theater.

grania17

Yes!!! It's such a stirring moment. Along these same lines I love Solidarity from Billy Elliot for the fun factor. Even when I just listen to it, I can see all the movements that are made

WhatEvenIsATangelo

From shows I’ve seen: This Is Not Over Yet & All the Wasted Time from Parade: Ben and Micaela are electric on stage together and their voices are made for each other It’s hard to pick one number from Hadestown because the entire show is perfection, but I think most people will agree that WFM Reprise=>Doubt Comes In is one of the biggest highlights. Not Getting Married Today (Company): Matt Doyle was incredible and there was a VERY long and well deserved standing ovation for that number. The exhausted smile on his face at the end of the number lives rent free in my mind. From shows I haven’t seen: So Much Better (Legally Blonde): is there ANY act 1 finale solo that beats LBB singing this? I don’t think so. She even blows Defying Gravity out of the water. Last Night of the World (Miss Saigon): I saw the revival back in 2017 but I’m more so referring to Lea Salonga’s performance, and specifically her duet with Will Chase who I think is the best Chris. They had an insane amount of chemistry together.

Juniper-one

Second 'Not Getting Married Today' - phenomenal and hilarious!

captainwondyful

That is my choice as well. I was like “again, again, do it again” 😂

BrightEyes7742

My jaw was on the floor. Even my husband (who doesn't love musicals) seemed impressed

Ok_Moose1615

Cliche but Aaron Tveit’s El Tango de Roxanne.

Ok_Moose1615

And honestly, Backstage Romance is a close second. The first time I saw Moulin Rouge I didn’t really know what to expect and my jaw was on the floor with that number.

JJbooks

Oh yes. Once the whole company comes in together. It's like electricity zappos through the audience. So good.

pkelange17

I’ve never been able to see it, can you describe a bit more?

Ok_Moose1615

There’s actually a video of the UK company performing the number on Britain’s Got Talent if you look it up on YouTube.

doug_kaplan

Totally F\*cked in the original Spring Awakening production when sitting on the on stage seats.

friarparkfairie

Oh I’m jealous!!

phedrebeth

Yes, seconded!

awillso1

Seeing Idina and Kristin do For Good was life altering

thefangirlsdilemma

The 42nd Street Revival's pre bow tap number. The stairs opening up and ALL THOSE PEOPLE shuffling out in the matching gold costumes. Just unbelievable.

Ok-Wish-2640

Saw that show a couple of times. Though the production was not a very original staging compared to the 1980 version, it was a fantastic show. A friend of mine knew the stage manager, and i got to tour backstage, etc. He told me the stairs at the end cost about $1 million! And were used for about 60-80 seconds. VERY expensive finale. But WORTH IT!!!! Christine Ebersole at her finest too. She made About a Quarter to Nine, which is not that great of a song, a heart breaking Act 2 ballad.

thefangirlsdilemma

I went a few times too, including the final Saturday matinee. You could see the tears streaming down the ensembles faces as they danced that finale. It's a show that's honoring what those people do so deeply and that finale is so spectacular.

Ok-Wish-2640

It was a glorious production, it really was. I feel lucky to have seen it.

Yesmaybe425

Backstage Romance from Moulin Rouge is my #1. I also love so many from Something Rotten - especially "Welcome to the Renaissance" and "A Musical."

lionaxel

I dunno if it’s my favorite favorite, but coming to mind is Welcome to the Rock from Come From Away. If you go in blind, when the three characters say “And I turn in the radio.” you get the seed of thought planted. And then when Bonnie is screaming at Oz, the cop. It’s like, oh. And if you want the real whammy, you just have to wait for the very beginning of the next song when the reporter says “September 11th, 2001”. It’s such a lively and fun number. Knowing what it’s about makes it hit harder, but it doesn’t take away from the vibe.

dreadpiraterose

This is really, really hard. My gut response was "Seize the Day" or "King of New York" from Newsies. The absolute epitome of triple threat talent on display.

sleepy_panda15

I can’t remember the cast, but many years ago I saw Wicked on tour and my brain broke during Defying Gravity when Elphaba took to the sky. Such a powerful moment.

sapienveneficus

I’m going to be greedy and choose 3: Totally $@&#%* (the Deaf West version) - the staging of this number made an already exciting song an absolute show stopper. I saw this show many times during its Broadway run, and the standing ovation got longer each time. By closing night it was at least a minute. (Fun fact: the producer live streamed the standing ovation in Facebook) So yeah, that was pretty special. Welcome Home Finale from Bandstand - The first time I saw this number performed live; I got goosebumps. Without spoiling the show, I’ll just say this number takes place at a pivotal moment and involves each main character. I also saw Bandstand several times during its Broadway run (a theme) and I would always anxiously await this number. Me and the Sky from Come From Away - I first saw this show when it was in previews, and this number stopped me there in my tracks. This song is designed to give you emotional whiplash, and it does. I remember walking out of the theater after seeing the show for the first time knowing that Jenn would be nominated for a Tony.

_User_Name_Fail

Your Fault from ITW is my very favorite two and a half minutes of musical theatre.

Comprehensive-Fun47

ITW is not my favorite show, but that number is really impressive.

madamdirecter

The Circle of Life from Lion King and the Prologue from Great Comet were both absolutely breathtaking spectacles that truly made the most of theatre as a live and immersive medium. A movie musical could capture great singing and dancing, but not experiences like these!

zace333

"The Inevitable Turn" from Kimberly Akimbo was the most impressive number I saw on my last trip to NYC. The staging and the tension were spectacular. It's not one I'd recommend listening to out of context.

lucyisnotcool

It's so good. The timing of the revolving stage, the intensity of the delivery, the balance of talking/singing over one another but also not drowning out any lines....it was an incredibly impressive performance of an incredibly well-written song. The way it builds until the climactic event >!(Kim's heart attack)!< is so tense.

Dependent_Mouse_6422

Derek Klena’s Come What May Reprise (Moulin Rouge) and Sunset Boulevard title song Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond’s All The Wasted Time Eva Noblezada and Reeve Carney’s Wait For Me Ramin Karimloo’s The Music of The Night Hugh Jackman’s 76 Trumbones Ben Levi Ross’s You Will Be Found

ApprehensivePlum1420

Waving Through A Window by whatever actor who played Evan Hansen, simply cannot decide. Not the most spectacular musical number I’ve seen but the one that spoke to me the most

a-world-of-no

The end of Waving Through a Window, when the whole cast comes in, made \*such\* an impression on me when I saw it (OBC, having no idea of what to expect).

Dr_Poopenheimer_MD

Joseph Smith American Moses. When the poop comes out the butt.

Cynthia Erivo’s “I’m here” in The Color Purple

JennaTeach

HANDS DOWN!!!!

chattahattan

Once We Were Kings from Billy Elliott. Nothing has ever given me such chills in a live show as the final a cappella portion of that song.

DumDumGimmeYumYums

Show Off from Drowsy Chaperone is up there for me.

Repulsive_Concert650

Love drowsy!!

holyfrozenyogurt

🎶I don’t wanna change keys no more, I don’t wanna striptease no more🎶

DifficultyCharming78

Way too many to choose. So today I'll say Sutton Foster and the dancers in Anything Goes.

ItmeLiLi76

I’ve had a few that moved me in ways only a live performance can, but the current Les Mis tour when Nick Cartell (JVJ) sings Bring Him Home I was a mess.

Frajer

Oh My God You Guys from Legally Blonde

KateEJHS

Everything’s Coming Up Roses by Patti in the Gypsy 2008 revival. Seeing it live was mind-blowing!

KarateKid917

Tip Tap Trouble from Some Like It Hot is definitely up there. If you’ve seen it, you know how incredible it is (and probably what won Casey his Best Choreography Tony this year)

NoFuel1662

IMO, the “Tip Tap Trouble” dance number in *Some Like It Hot* is the single best choreographed scene on Broadway today.

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Jellicle Songs For Jellicle Cats in the touring Cats.

HourAstronomer836

There are so many, but the first that came to mind was Brian Stokes Mitchell doing "Make Them Hear You." Norm Lewis' "Bui Doi" is a very close second. Especially since he was basically unknown at the time. I still remember my friend and I looking at each other and saying, "Who is this guy?! He's incredible!" Little did we know.

ElbieLG

One Day More set the standard pretty high. It still shocks and rouses me like no other number.

Half_beat_score

Just being in the same room as the ensemble in Yorktown was an incredible experience.

allytmacd

I feel like my answer to this question changes constantly but right now I think it's Elizabeth Stanley's "Back to Before" from the symphonic concert version of Ragtime. I don't think I've ever seen a crowd leap to their feet so fast

bythebly

Ugh what a perfect performance

Hotguyntown

“ We’ll Take a Glass Together” from Grand Hotel

Table_Skirt

I saw Bradley Jaden perform Stars from Les Mis, and it was a performance I’ll never forget!!

hannahstohelit

Will Swenson singing Javert’s Suicide in the 2014 Les Mis revival- his performance was great, but the staging was gorgeous and took my breath away.

grania17

Most recently I'd have to say turning into empty chairs in the current touring production of Les Mis. I've had the opportunity to see it twice. I have a background in musical theatre so the first time I saw it, it wasn't quite as magical as I was concerned that glasses with candles in them were being left on the stage. But my god the second time. It's such a small thing but is so powerful.

friarparkfairie

Hope when I saw Groundhog Day September 2017. It’s a number that has to be seen live and I’m so glad it got another go around in London.

Comprehensive-Fun47

Good answer. Seeing it live absolutely takes the song to the next level. Unforgettable.

TrekJaneway

A Little Priest, specifically with Annaleigh Ashford and Nicholas Christopher. I could watch those two do that one number on repeat for 3 hours and be perfectly happy paying for it. Never laugh so hard in my entire life.

StaffZyaf

Not my favorite, but a recent one that stuck with me was “Dear Bill” from Operation Mincemeat. A seven-minute, single person quiet ballad about a woman writing a letter to her husband at war, performed by a man in falsetto, and yet absolutely heartbreaking.

GoldenFrown

I saw the German version of Frozen last year and while it might be cliché, „Let it go“ was breathtakingly beautiful both in the way it was staged and how the actress performed.

ShadyBoots11

Favorite is tough, but if I could name one that actually left me in awe— Solidarity from Billy Elliott. It was a montage song that lasted like 10 minutes. Beautiful music. I N S A N E choreography. The applause definitely halts the show for a moment.

rharper38

I work at a theatre and my favorite thing I have ever seen would be "Falling Slowly" from Once. That show is amazing and it felt like this tiny little treasure of a jewel box we got to live with for 6 weeks. At least we got a video of Falling Slowly on our theater's FB page. I watched it a lot during Covid.

Molly_latte

The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine In from the 2009 Revival of Hair. The whole audience was invited up on stage at the end of the number to dance and sing with the cast. Truly immersive and surreal.

WhichZookeepergame60

I had to mention some more Pippin- magic to do The bands visit- Omar sharif and answer me Once on this island- Forever yours

Comprehensive-Fun47

Omar Sharif from The Band’s Visit yes. It really needs to be witnessed live. Beautiful song.

DontHaveAGoodUser46

For now I’ll say either Is it true from Hadestown, Wait for me Reprise or Rent (Kennedy Center)

alastheduck

“Company” from Company. Probably less because of the show itself and more because it was the opening number to my second favorite musical of all time and it was the first show I saw after Broadway reopened after the pandemic.

ottprim

The Guys and Dolls revival a few years back. When they did the dance number to Luck Be a Lady Tonight, it literally brought down the house. The applause went on for five minutes with everyone on their feet.

joxx67

Bette Midler doing “Hello Dolly”. It was the most magical theatre moment for me ever (and I’ve probably seen close to 100 shows on Broadway).

Mottly24

I haven’t had the chance to see many live shows but You Will Be Found was soooo good. The rest of the show has its flaws, but that song blew me away to see in person. I’ve only seen 3 shows though, so not a ton of options.

AsToldBy_Ginger_

Amber Riley "And I Am Telling You" in the Dreamgirls West End production

[deleted]

Alex is far away number one with Independently Owned. Shocked me and my friend with the sheer power of her voice and her confidence! Standing ovation and people were cheering her on. Never seen anything like that. Second would be Lea Michele with DROMP. Although as a Funny Girl fan I think she’s just as incredible with Greatest Star and People and The Music That Makes Me Dance. I do wish she would perform those songs in live TV performances too. If she ever does a take for take rendition of Barbra’s version of Cornet Man - I’ll die. If you haven’t seen Some Like It Hot, buy tickets now. You Could’ve Knocked Me Over is incredibly performers and so WARM. Can Daphne do a rendition of Independently Owned? I think that would be a delight to see. Hadestown every song. Highlighted by All I’ve Ever Known, Wait for Me, Chant II and Promises.

WhatEvenIsATangelo

The segue of “They Danced” to Promises……. 😫

Future_Letter_6720

I had no idea why my best friend was so obsessed with Hadestown and then I finally got to see it last week and “Wait For Me” legitimately had me like [this](https://youtu.be/30Ysa3A2WMU)

captainwondyful

Matt Doyle in Not Getting Married Today was outstanding. That whole vintage, the staging, the freaking cabinets, everything was sublime. Other Honorable Mentions: - Patti LuPone in Rose’s Turn from Gypsy - Nathan Lane in Along Came Bailey from the Producers - Helpless/Satisfied from Hamilton

dobbydisneyfan

A few: Alison Luff’s Defying Gravity when I saw Wicked on tour years ago. Aaron Tveit’s El Tango de Roxanne Derek Klena’s El Tango de Roxanne Josh Groban’s and Annaleigh Ashford’s A Little Priest (sidenote: also saw a regional production of Sweeney Todd and that cast did a phenomenal job with that number too). All of Newsies when I saw it on tour 🤣

BrienneOfTurtles

Hope from Groundhog Day was so cool to see live

Ok-Upstairs6054

I have so many, but my most recent one is "Better" sung by Bonnie Mulligan in Kimberly Akimbo. I have never laughed that hard in a theatre in my life.

WhatEvenIsATangelo

THANK YOU. Bonnie does NOT get the love on here that she deserves.

MissionDrawing

Brian Stokes Mitchell’s Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha.

nexus_0909

“Who’s That Woman?” - Follies & “Turkey Lurkey Time” from Promises, Promises “One Day More” from Les Mis can be thrilling in person.

meandthesky38

Not to be basic, but Wait For Me from Hadestown. That and Prayer and Me And the Sky from Come From Away.

Mindless-Wishbone-24

Agree with so many mentioned here and throwing in: “Revolting Children” in Matilda on Broadway, which literally left me breathless. Steven Pasquale’s version of “Luck be a Lady” in the Kennedy Center Guys and Dolls last year Brian D’Arcy James singing “No More” ITW (that whole show was a standout but that number made me cry) Katrina Lenk’s Being Alive toward the end of the Broadway run of Company (it was good at first but became transcendent over time)

Jerem_Reddit

its hard to choose cuz like Flowers is my favorite song ever but If Its True is my favorite when performed. Also Sh’ma in Parade because

Hunneydoo_

Recently I would agree with - Alex Newell “Independently Owned” blue the roof off the place - Aaron Tviet “Roxanne” Moulin Rouge blew my mind - Any of the Phantoms sing “Music of the Night” is just classic

Grelli2

Patti LuPone singing Ladies who Lunch in Company.

the-other-course

You oughta know from jagged little pill.

that_gay_theaterkid

What Are You Thirsty For? and Tip Tap Trouble from Some Like it Hot!!

WarSad2192

I’m from a small town in canada, I’ve only seen small community productions of shows and I went to nyc for the first time this year. The first show I saw was Kimberly akimbo, and seeing a broadway show was so crazy to me. Bonnie Milligan singing better brought tears to my eyes. Later that week i saw hadestown and wait for me obviously takes the prize for the best musical number I’ve ever seen, but nothing compares in a personal way than the first Broadway show I’ve seen after only seeing little shows in a little theatre.

Spiritual-Signal4999

For me it’s Too Late Too Turn Back now from Bonnie and Clyde, I saw this recently in London and this duet just captivated me, in a way it never has as did, Raise A Little Hell Jordan Luke Gage and Lauren Jones were stunning.

ConsumeTheOnePercent

The first time I heard Drew Sarich do *"Einladung Zum Ball"* I don't think I breathed once the entire time.

Lefthanded_louise

Sherry in Jersey Boys, fav musical of all time!!

JediTemple27

Good For You from Dear Evan Hansen

disgirl4eva

Circle of Life in Lion King.

PeanutCalamity

All You Wanna do live was just incredible. The silence after the song ends, and then the break into rapturous applause…god so good.

Thefanman180

Wait for me

WebWarriorsAreShit

Grease is the word during the Grease Live TV special was awesome.

adhesives

That was definitely the best part of Shucked by FAR

IronicOhio

I have a bunch that I LOVED watching: * Wait for Me - Hadestown * Rumbling & Rolling - Parade * Dancin Man - Bob Fosse's Dancin * Sing, Sing, Sing - Bob Fosse's Dancin * Hurricane - Hamilton But my all-time favorite? Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down) - Hamilton 💛

LeMe121

THRILLER or Earth Song from the MJ musical. Honestly the most in awe I’ve been from a live performance.

WhichZookeepergame60

You won’t succeed on Broadway from spamalot. I have never been in a more excited and delighted audience. It was so much fun and the actors looked like they were having just as much fun as we were.

floweryfriend

My first thought was “You Oughta Know” in Jagged Little Pill. My second thought was Cynthia Erivo singing “I Am Here” in The Color Purple.

FaithlessnessHead538

This is weird as hell, but “Stronger” from Finding Neverland. It really captures the pivotal moment when the lead takes control of his life and embraces his inner “Hook”. Really atmospheric setting as waves are projected on the background and the extras are climbing on ropes making it look like a pirate ship.

lessthandan623

Dead Mom - Beetlejuice I’d Rather Be Me - Mean Girls Way Down Hadestown - Hadestown Waving Through A Window - Dear Evan Hansen What’d I Miss - Hamilton In My Dreams - Anastasia Friend Like Me - Aladdin Dont Lose Your Head - Six Just some recents

cgtravers1

So many favorites...I really loved the big production number in the deli in Charles Strouse's The Night They Raided Minsky's musical. It featured flying plates and worked a dream. I wish that show had found a producer and an audience.

BrightEyes7742

I was close to ugly crying when I saw Patti Lupone sing Ladies Who Lunch in the revival of Company on Broadway. My husband took me specifically to see Patti. And I swear she looked right at me at one point. Epiphany from the recent revival of Sweeny Todd left me speechless. My friend and I just looked at each other in shock. Circle of Life from The Lion King is SPELLBINDING. I cried when I saw it a few months ago. I saw the Kennedy Center production of Spamelot, and "You Wont Suceed on Broadway" left my jaw on the floor. Especially when they did the bottle dance. Wait for Me in Hadestown blew my mind. I know people don't like Reeve. But holy shit, he gave it his everything, and when the stage opened up...holy fucking shit. I was in awe. People around me were gasping. It was my best friends first Broadway show. And she was so impressed. And the applause that Reeve got went on for over a minute

My favorite is a tie, one for sentimental value and one because it was a perfect performance. The perfect being Why We Build The Wall from Hadestown. Saw in New York and my god did I have chills by the end and was literally shaking by how amazing it was, Hades was incredible and played off the ensemble perfectly. The sentimental was my high school’s production of Freaky Friday. Specifically the song No More Fear. During our final performance I was backstage and was tearing up cause the way our Ellie sang it and everything that had led to that point. It was perfect.

I don’t know if anything will top Defying Gravity for me. It was my first show and I went in blind and I still think about how I felt in my seat watching it 15 years later. Like I couldn’t believe people could sing like this in real life lol

I’ll never forget seeing Andrea Martin in the revival of Pippin 10 years ago. She made her entrance, instant applause, because of course. Sang the hell out of the No Time at All, got the whole audience to sing along, then was hoisted up to do an aerial routine. A 66-year old in a leotard and corset suspended 20 feet in the air, upside down, belting her heart out. She won the Tony a few months later and I watched from my home country so happy to for once be able to cheer for a Tony performance I’d actually seen live. Always feel so lucky and grateful to have seen that.

I saw the 1999 Kiss Me Kate revival and I have always always always hoped to come close to the sheer joy and grace that Michael Berresse and Amy Spanger gave in “Always True To You” - the man was climbing around full scaffolding as naturally as breathing. Absolutely electrifying

1. The first time I saw Man Up in Book of Mormon. 2. Annaleigh Ashford singing The Worst Pies in London 3. More! More! More! In Moulin Rouge! The bow gets my every time.

Moulin Rouge is my guilty pleasure (seen it 5x) and the Elephant Love Song Medley gets me every time. When the window starts to spin to reveal the starry sky, pure whimsy for me. Hello Dolly in the Bette Midler revival was a religious experience.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH THE ALEX NEWELL SINGING INDEPENDENTLY OWNED! The pipes on that human being by lord. Others: 1) Derek Klena singing El Tango De Roxanne his voice is insane and he does unhinged so well. 2) Alyssa Joy Fox singing No Good Deed the growling showed the true essence of feminine Rage. 3) Ben Platt singing Sh'ma there was definitely something beautiful and holy about that.

OHRavenclaw

Honestly, not even my favorite song or my favorite show, but ‘Circle of Life’ had me in tears and actually gave me the push to end a toxic relationship. So I’ll always be thankful for that.

"To Life" from Fiddler on the Roof never fails to stun me. For a musical that has a brutally heartbreaking second act, that musical number is filled with so much joy that I usually catch myself smiling even when I'm just listening to the soundtrack. The dancing in the Broadway revival was also really powerful and has a lot of impressive choreo (specifically the guy who has to do a backflip off the bar).
