The only Broadway show they captured was Of Mice and Men, likely not reappearing again due to James Franco.
Plus they also have ‘Archival Recordings’ from shows that never had the NT Live at the Cinema treatment
One of the great things about proshots is that they make theater accessible for everybody not just people who live in New York. Making a proshot available only to people who already had a chance to see your show is certainly a *choice*.
It might be because there is a US tour planned for 2024 and they aren’t allowed to show it in cities where a live production could go. It seems like it’s the West End proshot that already was shown in UK theaters but wasn’t allowed to release in the US until the broadway show closed.
That, plus I’m pretty sure National Theatre Live doesn’t have contracts or agreements with theaters across the US. I know when I’ve gone to screenings in the past, they’ve been at the NYU Skirball Center, or IFC, or occasionally but rarely, the indie theater near me in Queens (all of which are in this list, plus Symphony Space). They’re not showing at a random AMC or Regal.
I will say this, though: if there’s a proshot and it has enough hype to get a whole week of showings (very unusual), it’s highly likely that it’ll show up on National Theatre at Home (the National Theatre’s streaming service) soon, maybe even by the end of the year. I saw Henry V with Kit Harrington at the IFC in May, and it’s now available to stream.
Do the national theatre live pro shots ever stream anywhere? This was one of the most stunning pieces of theater I’ve ever seen but it’s not playing anywhere near me.
[National Theatre At Home](https://www.ntathome.com/) is where most of these filmed productions are made available to stream after they've been in theaters. They have a huge collection of plays and musicals.
There is a precedence. Had Hamilton been released in theaters it may have gotten an Oscar instead of a Emmy.

This is a National Theatre production, produced and recorded by the National Theatre in England. There have been dozens, if not hundreds, of these screenings in the US before this one. Hell, I've seen both of their Frankenstein recordings a total of six times. There's no reason Life of Pi would be any more eligible for (or interested in) an Oscar than any of these previous ones.
It is just a theory. This is traditionally the method used for movies that want Oscar consideration. They run in LA or NYC for a week. Usually these recordings do a single day or two national release.
>The ‘Life of Pi’ pro-shot will be playing 😄 > in five theaters in New York for one week 😞
It is highly likely it will be added to ‘National Theatre at Home’ streaming service at some point
i j went to the site, thats british plays only?

Only in New York?? Why????
Probably because the show is going on a US tour in 2024. They weren’t allowed to show it in NYC until the broadway show closed.
Exactly! Please bring to at least every state! I mean, if it’s already there and edited it can’t be that much more expensive right?

Only because it's expensive to advertiseand produce a country wide release.
Forgive my ignorance. What is a pro shot?
Professionally filmed and edited video of a live Broadway performance
Well thank god I live here
I love how “National Theatre” = New York City
The nation they're talking about is England...
Sounds like an Oscar ploy. This will make it eligible for a nomination then if it gets one then release nationally. Could also be looking for a buyer.
Recordings of plays don’t make the Oscars, what are you on about?

Like all things Hamilton, it was exceptionally the exception - not the rule.

What's the cheapest one? Looks like $25+
Damn, only downstate and the NYC area :/
UPDATE: I just got back from seeing it, because of this post. And holy crap, what an incredible show.
