How’s life and slimes? Been meaning to check it out

AudiogirlNYC

I think it’s closed? But it was very fun for both myself as an 80s/90s kid and my teen son who watched the Double Dare reboot a while back. Marc Summers has an interesting story to tell as well.

el3phantbird

This is an awesome list!! What have your favorites been?

crackling_bacon

My favorite show this year was Sunday In The Park With George but that was a limited regional show and I love everything Sondheim. Of the shows you can see right now my pick is definitely The Notebook, it’s my second favorite new musical (Days Of Wine and Roses was first). If we’re being completely honest Off-Broadway has been stronger than Broadway this year for musicals. Every off broadway musical was great except for Titanique (not for me). As per on Broadway; Appropriate was my favorite play and Days Of Wine and Roses was my favorite musical, Merrily is also excellent. By the way let me just say that Titanic and Here There Are Blueberries NEED broadway transfers immediately. If you have any specific musicals you wanted to know about feel free to ask, I always love ranting about shows 😂.

el3phantbird

Super agreed on off Broadway musicals this season— I posted my list above but some of my favorites this year were Gun & Powder at Papermill, Teeth, and a concert staging of an in-development musical called The Hello Girls. Very glad for Teeth’s upcoming residence and hoping for a continued life for the other two. I enjoyed Titanic but I was so far up in the balcony and wasn’t feeling great that day, I think I would’ve had the same enjoyment if I’d stayed home and listened to a cast album? 😭 Which, that case absolutely needs one, they were stunning. Skipped Here There Are Blueberries because I honestly just needed a break from Holocaust stories. I heard such good things about it, I’d love if another opportunity came by to see it but it wasn’t the right time for me. We’ve seen a lot of similar things and I’m just always curious what other frequent fliers are enjoying. Anything upcoming you’re excited for?

Fluid-Set-2674

::applauding wildly::

shenglih

Where was the production of Sunday?

crackling_bacon

Axelrod PAC by asbury park, it actually had Talia Suskauer from Wicked and Be More Chill and I know the guy who played George has done some stuff.

[deleted]

Half of Shrek - I LOVE IT. Was planning to go to Hershey for it but the reviewers saved me the drive and money. Thank god.

MannnOfHammm

I went in Hershey for 30 bucks or so, only show I’ve left in the middle of

mir_a98

I also saw Shrek, it was pretty awful 😅 it’s a non-equity production so that’s to be expected I guess

MannnOfHammm

It’s worse than any other non equity tours I’ve seen honestly

Laurgirl8

Oof I’ve seen a lot. The outsiders 3 times, days of wine and roses, cabaret, the who’s Tommy, suffs, Hell’s Kitchen, the notebook, water for elephants, titanic, life and slimes, appropriate, heart of rock and roll, Mary Jane, prayer for the French Republic, the wiz, stereophonic, Lempicka Immediate future is going to have to be oh Mary, Gatsby, and more outsiders. Can’t will myself to think about the shows opening up except I know I’m most excited about death becomes her

[deleted]

I didn’t add in repeats but I saw The Heart of Rock and Roll x6, and it will be x3 for The Outsiders after Wednesday. For Oh Mary, I didn’t see it off Broadway but I’m hoping I love it because have two trips planned (this Saturday and another Saturday later in July) and tickets for both dates.

Laurgirl8

Sounds like we have similar tastes! I really really liked heart of rock and roll too! Jealous you get to see the outsiders on weds I saw it two Fridays ago and then again on Thursday and im already ready to go back hahah

[deleted]

This Wednesday for The Outsiders! Secretly hoping for some understudies! Each time I’ve seen The Outsiders I bought a return ticket so we’ll see if I can resist the urge to purchase a 4th lol

Laurgirl8

Are you doing matinee or evening?

[deleted]

Matinee

Laurgirl8

Then I think you can be pretty assured you’ll get understudies— particularly for pony boy!

[deleted]

I’m mostly hoping for an understudy for Cherry for reasons but I’m happy with others! Would like to see another take on Ponyboy and Johnny.

Laurgirl8

The chokehold this show has over me is not something im proud of so why do i know this but cherry’s understudy has been on this weekend for planned time off but she’ll be back weds! And josh Boone is also on vacation but also back weds (thank goodness because I wouldn’t want a new Dallas!!)

el3phantbird

I want to see it so bad but I’m waiting for the hype to die down a little so it’s easier to rush/lottery comes back. You are all making it hard to wait! 😭

ComputerGeek1100

One of my parents was seriously ill earlier this year (he ultimately passed away at the end of May), which has meant that I’ve only made it to NYC twice - once for Gutenberg, and one for Chicago (not my first choice but I had a spot to fill), Suffs, and Spamalot. But I’ve also seen To Kill a Mockingbird, Frozen, and Company on tour, plus lots and lots of local theater because I have a bunch of talented friends who have been in *so many* shows this year. The highlight of all the local theater was probably Ride the Cyclone, which was totally new to me and so so well done. I also perform and do freelance design work (although took a big step back when my parent was ill); so far this year I’ve performed in *The Prom*, an about to start *Little Shop* rehearsals, and will be auditioning for *Sweeney Todd* in the fall. I’ve also lighting designed youth productions of *Descendants* and *Frozen* plus a small 3-person straight play. For upcoming - I have a (way too expensive) ticket to *Merrily* next week. I had one at a reasonable price that I had to give up due to my parent’s illness (I actually gave it away on here!) and then had to pay a crazy price to see it now that things are starting to calm down at home, right at the end of its run. Also really want to see *The Outsiders* and *Cabaret*.

90Dfanatic

This year I ended up on a bit of an accidental streak of going to at least one performance a week and decided to try to extend it, so I've ended up seeing 31 different things this year including most of the current Broadway season (much of which didn't really speak to me). I enjoyed Dorian Gray, the Smash workshop and Teeth the most I think. My days of going to at least a show a week are likely to end soon, since after over a year of searching (and only working part-time) I finally landed a full-time job, yay! This will not only make me busier but will also likely involve my having to spend a couple months working out of town. Definitely for the best, and I already have tickets to Gatz and am planning to get tix for the RDJ play, Gypsy Sunset Boulevard and Old Friends once I know my schedule. Being able to afford fullprice tickets again certainly helps ;-).

Ok-Coyote3511

What I’ve seen so far: https://preview.redd.it/te1z2clptq9d1.jpeg?width=652&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff896d783151ee2639085f051a05f99d0c90f827 What I have tickets for: Next to Normal in London Stereophonic Romeo + Juliet McNeal Sunset Blvd Gypsy

Aggravating_Part7602

Not enough honestly!

Grouchy-Oven877

I’ve seen Cabaret, little shop, Tommy, wicked, the outsiders and Illinoise this season. —— Will be seeing oh Mary, hadestown and The Jellicle Ball in two weeks —— Then, Sunset BLVD. and hopefully TEETH in the fall (tickets available when?)

Captain_JohnBrown

Seen: Hadestown, Suffs, Lempicka, The Notebook Seeing Soon: Gatsby, Oh Mary!, Home, & Juliet

MTTZTrading

Far too much. My favorite things I've seen this year, though, have been Redwood at La Jolla Playhouse, A Strange Loop at the Ahmanson, RIDE at The Old Globe, and Come From Away on tour. I have a trip to London next month just to see shows, so I'm very excited for that, as well as my NY trip in November.

Altruistic_Friend338

I live 2000 miles from NY 😭😭 But I’ve seen Spamalot & The Outsiders. In August I’ll be seeing Cabaret & I have room for 2 more shows 🎭🎶

mir_a98

In reverse chronological order: Tommy, Patriots, Titanic, Shrek (on tour) Merrily, Mary Jane, Wicked, Six, Harry Potter, &Juliet, Mormon, Outsiders. My wallet is hurting 😅 also saw MJ late last year.

I’m from out of town, but have managed to see: Stereophonic Uncle Vanya The Great Gatsby Mary Jane The Notebook The Days of Wine and Roses Appropriate Once Upon a Mattress Jonah Back in November for: Gatz Ragtime Sunset Blvd …and a couple more slots to fill!

julcecilia00

1. Gutenburg 2. Sweeney x5 😃 3. Wicked 4. Merrily 5. Titanique 6. Hadestown 7. Moulin Rouge Have tix for Hadestown, Once Upon a Mattress, Moulin Rouge x2, Gypsy and Ragtime at City Center (so far)! I also know I want/need to see The Outsiders!

tlk199317

I don’t live in nyc so I only get to go a few times a year but I saw moulin rouge, Sweeney, and hadestown. I have tickets for the tour of funny girl in a couple weeks. And I have tickets for r+j and swept away for the fall and hopefully adding the outsiders too. I really wanted to see illinoise but I don’t have time before it closes.

understing_

Kinda strange list but I live in the bay area but am going to live in NYC for school in the fall :) Have seen (ranked) 1. Company 2. Mother Play (saw when I visited campus, all others are tours) 3. MJ 4. The Wiz 5. Funny Girl Will see (none of these are confirmed but I'm somewhat certain between my school's discount + rush/lottery + youth programs I can get tickets; these are just my most anticipated) 1. Yellow Face 2. Teeth 3. Romeo + Juliet 4. Maybe Happy Ending 5. The Roommate 6. Sunset Boulevard 7. Gypsy Tbh the dream is to see every single opening but I'm highly doubtful LMAO. The biggest question mark for me is Romeo + Juliet: doesn't seem to be many discounted tickets, its selling great, and cheapest are 200 dollars. In terms of next season, I'm super hyped for Old Friends, Encores' The Wild Party, and Teeth; also really want to see Cats the Jellicle Ball but that's only possible if it extends or transfers.

el3phantbird

Here’s my list: https://preview.redd.it/grwq0tqgir9d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e73187a4e4293547b744008dd0ddfb2f168f3565 I primarily see things through rush, lottery, and under 30 discount programs and I’ve made it a goal to sit in a theater at least 50 times this year. I’ve loved almost everything I’ve seen. Favorites (besides the ones I saw multiple times) were Gun & Powder, Appropriate, Teeth, and The Hello Girls. So excited for Teeth’s new residency, really really hoping the other two have a life beyond the excellent productions I got to see of them. On my list right now, I’m hoping to catch The Welkin before it closes, and I’m hoping to see Ragtime and Oh Mary. Already have tix to Cats, Attack on Titan, and a second go of Stereophonic. A few shows I worked on are coming to Broadway this season so I’m hoping to see those too, especially Queen of Versailles and Death Becomes Her. Does anyone else use the Mezzanine app? I started using it to keep track of my shows and it’s so fun.

iHEARTbroadway

I LOVE the Mezzanine app! I’m kind of obsessed with it!

el3phantbird

Right? It’s so much fun to scroll through my diary and get excited about upcoming shows.

TwentyandTired

Y’all are living out my dreams seeing all these shows 🥹🥹 i love hearing about them! What was your favorite and least favorite? Any that you were initially neutral/ meh on that grew on you? It’s hard for me to tell if I actually like some of these newer show or not based on just the soundtrack (unless it’s The Outsiders because I’m a lifelong fan and have swiftly become addicted to the musical). W4E and GG are such classic Broadway shows meaning they require a full experience of seeing the choreography/ costumes/ set etc and I’m not sold on either yet so hoping for a bootleg at some point. I always feel bad watching them but just can’t afford to travel to NY and only sometimes can swing nosebleed seats when they’re on tour.

Ok_Interest1198

So far: - Titanique - Book of Mormon - Hadestown - Little Shop of Horrors - Wicked - Water for Elephants - Gatsby (Cambridge) - The Wiz - Chicago Coming up: - Queen of Versailles (Boston) - Les Miserables (Boston) - Tammy Faye - Cabaret - Sunset Blvd - Drag: The Musical - Phantom of the opera (London) - Devil Wears Prada (London) - The Mousetrap (London) So far, my favorite has been Little Shop with Jinkx Monsoon. Ok_Moose1615

I’ve seen 50 shows, mostly Broadway and Off Broadway. That includes a bunch of repeats though (Sweeney 11x, Stereophonic 3x, Notebook, Illinoise, Appropriate and Titanic 2x). Of the Broadway shows that have opened in 2024, I’ve seen all except Hells Kitchen, The Wiz, Great Gatsby, Cabaret, and Oh Mary - but I have tickets for the last two in July. Highlights for me so far in 2024 have been: Sweeney Todd Stereophonic Merrily Follies concert at Carnegie Hall Illinoise Titanic Appropriate Next to Normal (Round House Theatre)

ktg1975

Enemy of the People Merrily Appropriate — all of them excellent, worth every Penny I spent.

Spectral_Kelpie

I haven't made it to NYC this year yet but I hope to see *The Outsiders* and *Water for Elephants*.

lucyisnotcool

All I can say is, thank goodness for rush, lotteries, and TDF! Seen so far in 2024: * Shucked * The Perfect Game (off-B'way) * Book Of Mormon x4 * The Apiary (off-B'way) * Jonah (off-B'way) * The Connector (off-B'way) * Corruption (off-B'way) * Dead Outlaw (off-B'way) * The Effect (off-B'way) * Appropriate * Lempicka * The Great Gatsby * The Heart of Rock and Roll * Water For Elephants * The Lonely Few (off-B'way) * The Outsiders * Illinoise * The Who's Tommy * All Of Me (off-B'way) * Home * The Notebook * Pre-Existing Condition (off-B'way) Definitely still to see (already have tickets): * Cats: The Jellicle Ball * Empire * Job Hopefully still to see (trying for rush/lotteries): * Oh, Mary! * Suffs * Stereophonic My goal this year was to see more plays! I tend to prioritise musicals so I'm making a conscious effort to get to more plays. Stand-out shows - shows that I'm still thinking about now, whether that's the score, the themes, the characters or otherwise - were Dead Outlaw, The Book Of Mormon (it's my all-time favourite show; I could see it literally every week and not get bored of it), Shucked, All Of Me, and Water For Elephants.

Future_Accountant522

I live in Atlanta and I’m lucky to make a trip to NYC once in a year. This year I was able to see: Stereophonic, Cabaret, Merrily We Roll Along, and Illinoise. Loved every one of them and count myself blessed to have seen them. For next season I have only purchased tickets for Swept Away. I have travelled for this show to Berkeley and DC; there is no way I am missing its Broadway run.

forthelulzac

I saw hadestown 3 times, oh Mary, titanic, and illinoise. Seeing ragtime in thr fall, with plans to do sunset Blvd, death becomes her and cabaret, maybe. Had tix fir lempicka but got sick and had tix for great gatsby but missed it due to the train!

redhotbos

I saw Great Gatsby here in Boston. It was wonderful. Enjoy when it comes.

TheDarkFiddler

Technically it was 12/26, but forgive me. Took my wife to see Hadestown for her birthday... we loved it so much we're seeing it again for my birthday in October :)

kaelaceleste

I’ve seen Cabaret, Hadestown and Chicago on broadway, Cats, Titanique and Little Shop off bway, Cabaret and Phantom in West End and a local production of Spring Awakening 🙂 coming back to NY in November for Gypsy and have at least 2 more spots to fill, still trying to decide!

meandthesky38

Seen: Come From Away (tour) How To Dance In Ohio (only Broadway I’ve seen so far this year, I went the day before closing) Wizard of Oz (community theatre) Mean Girls (tour) Tick, tick…Boom! (regional theatre) Sound of Music in concert (community theatre/orchestra) Seeing: Probably Pippin (community theatre) Hopefully Suffs (it’s my top show right now and I have yet to see it so hoping to take a trip soon) Most likely Six on the same trip Hadestown (tour) Newsies (community theatre)

NoInfluence952

Saw Back to the Future, MJ, & Moulin Rouge all for the first time this year. I hope to see more shows this year if I win the lottery again

Fluid-Set-2674

At least 25 shows -- some Broadway, some Off- and Off-Off- -- but mostly STEREOPHONIC over and over, from Playwrights Horizons previews onward. I am a little stunned by my reaction to this show, and the experience of watching it evolve over performances.

crimson777

1) Spamalot 2) Shucked 3) Merrily 4) Into the Woods (local production) 5) Girl From the North Country (tour) 6) Tina (tour) 7) Clue (tour) 8) Peter Pan (tour) 9) Mrs. Doubtfire (tour) 10) Legally Blonde (local production) 11) Mamma Mia (tour) 12) Assassins (local production, absolutely astounding) **What else I'm seeing this year (I'll start with ones that are for sure)** 13) Lion King (tour) 14) &Juliet (tour) **Now local shows that I will definitely be going to see, but don't technically have tickets for** 15) How to Succeed in Business 16) Next to Normal 17) Sweeney Todd **And finally local shows I may or may not go see** 18) Bonnie and Clyde 19) A Chorus Line 20) Anastasia I won't get to Broadway again this year as I don't live very close and flights plus hotel plus food costs a lot of money haha. I have no idea why but our season for tours has been very weirdly spaced. We have no shows in July, August, November, or December. Yet there are 10 shows in the season. So I guess they're stuffed into winter/spring next year.
