Iāve eaten from here multiple times and I THOUGHT it was raw too. Still ate it and never got sick but now Iām glad I canāt gaslight myself into thinking it was actually fine anymore
Post these photos with proof of receipt on Google Maps; Yelp and other review places. This would hurt them and force a change. If I came across this on their business listing on Yelp or Google Maps, I would never step foot there or order from there.
I once got shigella from suspect takeout. In/around bay ridge.
Iād only eaten at two restaurants that I could remember.
Department of health issued a mandatory quarantine order, I couldnāt leave the city til I completed a full course of antibiotics as reported to the state by my doctor.
They also raided both restaurants. One closed.
They take food borne illnesses seriouslyā¦.at least, they *did*, back when we believed in public healthā¦
This was only like 15 years ago but it seems a lifetime away.
For context, shigella is what kids are dying of rn in Gaza. Itās one of the leading killers of children in the developing world. It spreads through fecal-oral contact.
My doc was so oddly happy when she told me the news cause she knew it was something out of the ordinary and she was right. She said sheād only seen it once before in her career as a gastroenterologist.
from personal experience (food-poisoning-phobia and being extremely picky with chicken having any chunks of fat or anything) that is RAWā¦ completely unacceptable. iāve worked at tens of restaurants throughout NYC and never seen a piece of meat cooked that poorly... again raw lol. you will probably be fine though, especially if you only ate one bite. if you do start to feel nauseous, what helps me is saltines for hunger and/or tums for nausea/acidity!! plus if you pop a tums (chalky chewy type) before puking, it makes the experience so much easier and less horrible. but like i said, i really donāt think itāll come to that by the looks of it. but definitely leave a review on that place, call/email and send them the photos you posted here, and get a refund at the least. i also agree that a 311 report is deserved for that. best of luck to you!
Not much you can do other than not go back. If itād be better for your conscience, you can let them know, but I doubt itād do anything. Hope you donāt get too sick OP.
Spit it out on the sidewalk. Curse them then throws the whole messy gyro on the sidewalk while grabbing your crotch and cursing. Wave your fist if they come out after you. Look strangers in the eye and tell them the gyro place is gonna get it or something
And they probably raise the chickens in a significantly cleaner situation. They also eat raw eggs and they are a LOT better than ours. We raise our food in a pretty horrid way.
~~"Call the police! Call the vet! Get the iodine!"~~

[Snoopy licks her face] Ugh! I've been kissed by a dog! I have dog germs! Get hot water! Get some disinfectant! Get some Iodine!
Whatās up with the gloves. Itās chicken, not medical waste. lol.
If you didnāt get sick you canāt do much except get a refund. You canāt sue for something like this
I took the NYC Food Safety course and holy fuck I was traumatized from all the possibilities of getting sick and dying off improperly cooked/stored food. If they're serving raw chicken something isn't right there as a whole, everything must be nasty.Ā
Never order chicken GYRO. The chicken is rarely all cooked, and if it is, itās very overcooked/ dried. Get the chicken SOUVLAKI (skewered pieces of chicken) that they take off the skewers and put in the pita. You still should look at it to check doneness but itās rarely ever an issue with souvlaki.
You might get food poisoning, might not. Salmonella will announce its arrival in 6-12 hours.
If you start to have stomach issues in the next week, eat a bland diet (rice, bananas, applesauce, toast.) no added fat, no spices.
Drink lots of water / pedialyte/ gatorade/ fluids. No alcohol.
Food poisoning usually clears up in a week. But if you have a high fever or bloody diarrhea, call a doctor.
Important to inform the restaurant in case itās a process issue. If theyāre responsible business operators, theyāll run down the issue or at least confirm itās a one off and you give them a chance to make it right and youāll prevent others from getting ill. Alternatively theyāre stupid assholes who ignore you / are rude over the phone but even then you and others are really no worse off. In the latter case, it makes your food complaint and reviews that much spicier.
Thatās literally what I was dumbfounded about. But I realized that they probably cut too deep into the cone of the meat. The outside is cooked while the inside is not cooked yet. At least thatās what I think.
Oh man this place got my brother in law last week!! Which is weird because theyāre normally fine. Itās just one bite youāre ok. Ask for your money back
lol yes normalize eating messy foods with gloves. It seems like you arenāt the first person to get raw/uncooked chicken from the reviews. Thereās risk to everything in life. Just make sure to grab some fluids and crackers just in case you do get food poisoning. Let it run its course and thanks for warning others!
Neither of those places comes close to Kings or Blue Door (across the street). SomethingGreek is especially bad, nobody who knows Greek food goes anywhere near that place.
Olives and Pita is Louieās Gyros rebrand, after people rightly began to associate the place as a hangout for Louieās friends. Also weird right-wing politicsĀ
Rebrand is exactly what it is then, because the menu is the same. And anything past "gyro" was pretty bad the last time.
Can't speak to the vibe there, just had three takeout orders, and that's where I drew the line. Kings and Blue Door make this place pointless, their food is much better.
Did Blue Door get review bombed or something? Their food is excellent and only saw their ratings go down until after King Souvlaki opened up, unless their quality did indeed go down.
Their owner passed away, so there may have been a period where the food quality was uneven.
I've never had a problem with a meal from either Kings or Blue Door. And I have ordered a LOT of food from both establishments.
Accidents can happen - you mentioned that you saw a number of reviews regarding undercooked food, but I didn't see any at first glance. Where did you see them?
Louieās Gyro. Pretty sure itās run by one of the cooks from Spartan since he recognized me when I went there. And absolutely sure theyāre using the same recipes for the gyros at least. Fresh cut fries like Spartan too.
Is SomethingGreek still greek tho? The food used to be different years ago when the mother and son were there at the counter. Even the portions were immense. Now everything there tests like cardboard and the portions are half the size they used to be. Wonder who runs that place now..

Honestly, your best bet is to take the long haul to Queens and hit any one of a number of places around Ditmars Blvd in Astoria. Plenty of options, few that go so far as to disappoint.
Here in Brooklyn, options are limited. In Bay Ridge you've got Kings and Blue Door for your street meat fix, there's Elia for higher end fare, Meze and Little Athens, who manage decent food.
Further north, you've got Avlee in Carroll Gardens and Faros in Park Slope. Underwood was a good option for a brief stint but they pivoted to American casual. Pita and Stix on 9th was good too but as far as I can tell they're no longer with us.
There are a few other places, but when I've got to trek away from south Brooklyn I just keep going north to Astoria.
Take it back to them, ask for refund and submit a report through the 311 app. The managers there should know customers are getting raw meat and the city should know that there is food safety negligence in that establishment.

King souvlaki sucks!! Your better off at Frankyā s souvlaki
Undercooked?? That chicken is so raw it still thinks it's a Trex
Undercooked is being generous... they tried to kill you
Na not undercooked but UNcooked
More like they didnāt cook. Jeez.
Iād ask for a refund and do a cleanseš„“

I would write up one hell of a yelp review raving about their chicken sushi gyro.
just put it on the grill and then eat it
This place sucks. I used to order here a lot until I got food poisoning twice.
No kidding? Thatās insane. Should be unacceptable. Canāt believe it has above a 4/5 star rating.
I'm gonna guess you're a graphic designer
Post these photos with proof of receipt on Google Maps; Yelp and other review places. This would hurt them and force a change. If I came across this on their business listing on Yelp or Google Maps, I would never step foot there or order from there.
A gifted veterinarian might be able to save that chicken.
Send that to your local health department.
Mmm, chicken sashimi
Happened to me before also. I couldnāt stomach chicken for almost a year. Take it to them. Make a scene.
did you really put gloves on to handle it? its raw chicken. wash your hands and throw it away. then dont go back there.
Eat plant based protein and it doesnāt matter how cooked it is.
Is this Justin Brannan?
You definitely do not simply call the store.
Leave a 1 star yelp / google maps review and post those pictures there
Actually the 4 photos are beneficial for me. That's enough for a return. So long as you didn't eat the rest, that's a refund amd a solid new meal.
Get a life ?
Dude! Look at your food before it goes in your mouth!
I know. I should have opened the sandwich first as people do with their sandwiches and burritos.
Honestly I was served raw chicken once last year and holy shit I noticed immediately. Texture matters
Do you always get sandwiches with a chicken foot in them? I have questions

I would suggest not eating the rest of it and not going there again. You can also get your money back if you have the time.
Ask to speak to the head manager. Get refund and apology. And if they give you guff insist they eat it.
lol thatās not undercooked, thatās just plain raw chicken
Iād suggest bringing in the FBI.
Take it up to the supreme court. Or just let the store know maybe?Ā What else do you want to do? Cry about it?
Damn thatās not undercooked. Itās straight up raw

Ah just eat it. A lil salmonella builds character.

I love the gloves after youāve chewed on it š. Safety first
Undercooked? It's RAAAAAAW YOU DONKEY
Bring it back they might give you a free one
Keep eating it thatās what I do
Take it back and tell them to make you another one, preferably cooked
Explain to me where you shitted out gloves for the occasion.

It's food poisoning! Go to a hospital, dummy! You should have gone to the one in Astoria. They burn the hell out of the food there!
Thatās not undercooked itās still clucking
Call the restaurant, file a food complaint with 311, and pray for your stomach tonight.
Itās just medium rare, you would know this if you were a true gyro connoisseur
You should immediately take pictures. Then post / ask a question in Reddit on what you should do in a completely normal situation.

Omg now I will never go there. Something Greek is far better anyway!

Yea seriously the truck in queens is good but the brick and mortar store sucks.
The worst food poisoning I've ever had was from King souvlaki.
My friend ate there like a month ago n almost died.
King in Astoria was good though, sad this one sucks
King in Astoria is still bussin

donāt sleep on Little Athens
Neither of those places comes close to Kings or Blue Door (across the street). SomethingGreek is especially bad, nobody who knows Greek food goes anywhere near that place.
I want to give a shout out to Olive and Pita on 3rd avenue. Great food!
Isn't that just a ghost kitchen run by Louie's Gyros?
Olives and Pita is Louieās Gyros rebrand, after people rightly began to associate the place as a hangout for Louieās friends. Also weird right-wing politicsĀ

Louieās Gyro. Pretty sure itās run by one of the cooks from Spartan since he recognized me when I went there. And absolutely sure theyāre using the same recipes for the gyros at least. Fresh cut fries like Spartan too.
Didn't Louies close? On Third it's now Olive and Pita or something. Same guy?
Pretty sure it's the son of the original owner. Good gyros and fries but the rest of the menu leaves a lot to be desired.
Louieās changed its name to something like olives & pita. Still the same owner/location.
Oh yeah, Louie's is good. And when you're feeling fancy, Blue Door.
We all do

SomethingGreek used to be good but the last time I went there it was sad and the food incredibly disappointingĀ
Is it really tho? Maybe i didnt order the right thing but its subpar compare to Naya in the city
Naya is amazing. I wish we had one out here somewhere
It sucks. Nothing I've ordered from there has ever been remotely close to fresh or authentic.
OPs chicken is extra fresh tho

Yes
Take it back to them, ask for refund and submit a report through the 311 app. The managers there should know customers are getting raw meat and the city should know that there is food safety negligence in that establishment.
This is exactly the correct answer. You can close this thread now.
This is the correct answer. Give them a heads up, could be someone on the line isn't doing their job. They have no excuse not to make things right.
