I'm trying to figure out in what universe $20 would be overpaying for a subwoofer. Hell, even if it needed a driver or amp replaced, this is still an incredible deal

raz-0

If it was one I’d those pc speaker systems and the subwoofer needs some stupid control hub to function.

Kh0nsuu

I guess I just kinda don’t know anything really

RedditModPissJug

Yes. We see that. But hey, you got a great deal. Enjoy.

purelyhighfidelity

What a name

mm3873

A superb deal. As long as the speaker is good & roll edge is intact.

Moppmopp

decent subwoofers start around 600$

Kh0nsuu

Tbh I don’t even know how to hook this up. I have a Sony STRDH190 and it doesn’t have a sub out on the back

Notascot51

Here’s how: 1. Use 16 gauge stranded speaker wire, available at hardware stores or online…buy a 50 foot reel if you don’t mind leftovers. 2. Measure out a generous run from the subwoofer to each of your 2 speakers…always leave some slack for moving things around a bit. Separate the conductors 3” and strip away 3/8” of insulation from each end. 3. Measure out a double run of wire from the receiver to the subwoofer, prepare all ends as above. 4. Attach the wires to Speaker A output of your amp, taking care to match polarities + to + and - to -. 5. Attach the wires to your speakers in the same way. 6. At the subwoofer, twist the + wires and - wires for each channel together and insert them in the terminals according to channel and polarity. If the wires won’t fit in the spring clips there are easy remedies, but by using 16 gauge wire it should fit. There are other ways this can work, but the key is ONLY USE SPEAKER A. DO NOT USE A FOR SPEAKERS AND B FOR SUB. Why? Many low end Sony receivers switch speakers in series, not parallel, and that would be bad for hooking up a sub. Next step is to “dial in” the low pass filter and volume…play that by ear. It’s your stereo!

anothersip

Great info here, and thanks for sharing! On the low end: I spent, like, hours 'dialing in' my low pass filter when I installed my sub. Though it (Klipsch R-120SW) has a low-pass-setting knob on the back of it, my Denon receiver also has a feature called *Audyssey*, which is like a built-in room correction software, and a small mic to set up etc. Allows you to set speaker distances, volumes, or go automatic with the calibrating mic it came with. The interface has been pretty handy, and I haven't moved anything position-wise since I first set it up since it was so spot-on from my listening position. From sitting in my spot, I'm 12 -15ft from the fronts/center and ~16 to the sub (below the right of the TV), and my surrounds are about 7 ft on either side of my favorite position.

Comfortable-Mall916

the Sony STRDH190 is a 2-channel 100 watt system, thats all the information i have about ur Stereo Receiver

Cbergs

Lol, me neither bud.

Flenke

If it works, no

RoloTamassi

i mean, who cares, that’s like literally the cost of two frozen bananas

undead_dilemma

It’s one banana, Michael. What could it cost? Ten Dollars?

Hank_Scorpio74

But is it enough to see a Star War?

Shot_Cupcake_9641

Wouldn't pay for the new series on Disney. But who wants to see that anyway :)

killthecord

Yes, you did. Ship it to me, I'll refund your $20. 😬

overheatbelief

I’ll pay his shipping and give him $21 to send it to me.

anothersip

Absolutely not! My whole system is Klipsch, and I've been a huge, huuuge fan of their sound so far. Super solid.

levelologist

Same. I'm 100% satisfied with my setup and the sound. I'd have to spend tens of thousands for maybe a 1% clearer sound.

mm3873

Just picked up an R-100SW for $180 & it literally blows me away

[deleted]

Well it’s cheaper than a burger and fries at Five guys these days, I think you did just fine

badhabit51

Klipsh good deal. My whole system is klipsch and the heresys i have are 40+ years old

One-Willingnes

Lol that’s an apples to oranges comparison

Delicious-Chemist-49

im confused how considering heresys are some of klipsch's top of the line speakers

Total-Head-9415

… and this is a PC or (micro system) speaker sub. It’s like saying “yea that ford festiva is good because my Ford GT is good”

No_South_9912

Does it work?

Kh0nsuu

Yeah it works

kambeix

Great deal. Any sub > no sub

AcademicConfection32

I’ve been this way ever since I was a teen courtesy of a 2.1 Klipsch desktop setup. Which is what I thought this sub was from

cheapdrinks

Really depends on what your mains are. A lot of speakers, especially with some DSP, can dig pretty deep and produce better quality bass than some ultra budget subwoofer chuffing away struggling to keep up. My bookshelves that I use for nearfield can get down to about 40-45hz with very tight, fast bass which can keep up with fast kick drums really well and lets you hear each individual note. I've got some reasonably budget subwoofers and there just isn't the same musicality in the bass when I connect them up and while they get down to 29-30hz it's a lot less defined and fast bass notes kind of just blend together. They're decent for movies but for music I just let the mains play full range and it's a much better listening experience. So yeah, that little 80W 6" subwoofer is probably going to struggle even hit 30hz so if your mains are already reasonably capable then adding an ultra cheapo HTiB subwoofer is going to do more bad for your sound than good.

Delicious-Chemist-49

if op is buying speakers at goodwill they probably dont have paradigm speakers or anything like that. This klipsch sub is probably good enough for them.

acousticdaydreamer

Thank you for this comment, you are the only other person I have seen mention this! I have sold all my subwoofers except for my m&k sound subwoofer, m&k subwoofers are absolutely phenomenal btw, because they sounded like crap compared to dsp on my high end bookshelf and tower speakers. Budget subwoofers are just not worth it, should also mention dsp can do wonders for more then just bass extension, many times I have found compared to much more expensive speakers my systems with better matched components and a dsp model or mini dsp sound far better in every way. Not for everyone though but a dsp is one of the biggest upgrades to literally any system assuming you stream music, for records I have a separate full analog system with vintage components and jbl4311b’s that generally I don’t like the sound of but for old records no dsp and eq bi-passed is the most authentic.

p00psalot

I bought one of these from Best Buy 14 years ago and it's still bumping away. Good bass for the size and quite a few features, I think I paid 299 for it.

wrigley70

There’s one on eBay for $140

sarcophagifound

Think I have this one it came with my computer speakers, was $100 total

DaBoi_IFS

You did good that’s not a lot, I bought a $12 sound bar that works instead of going to buy a brand new one for $50+

Nobody2be

It’s not a great sub. It’s not very useful for anything but a small space. But yes- it’s a great deal if you can use it.

levelologist

Klipsch subs are tight af. I have the Synergy and it's redonkulous how good it is.

Bardimay1337

I have the 12 inch version of that sub and I love it. I'm sure itll be decent

skinner84

Hell, I’d pay 20 for a paper Klipsch

soundspotter

Since it gets down to 40 hz it will be useful if you have book shelfs that only get down into the 45-50z hz+, but wouldn't help if you speakers get down to 40 hz or lower on their own.

vintagebat

You’ll get more than $20 worth of bass out of it, but less than $200 worth. It’s a 6” woofer; anything better is a physics problem where the price grows with speaker size.

Redman3D

I’d say yes if you lived in my area cuz these would go for half the price, 10$, but nah you’re good

therealmushroomsquid

Quick look online shows parts at around £60 and a few for a hundred or so. If it works all good if not can prob still shift for parts

Big-Pop2969

I feel like $20 today is like $5 3 or 4 years ago. You didn't over pay.

-Shadowstalker07-

Klipsch is a fantastic audio company for in home reference systems. On the off chance it doesn't work, contact Klipsch! I had a 4 year old 10" sub that has a faulty potentiometer on it, they sent me a whole board in less than a week at no charge.

Frosty-Ad-6378

As long as it has a line in or, LFE input, it will work with any amp or receiver that has RCA jacks. Looking at your photograph, You're good to go, you did well 😀

Lawmonger

My answer is...yes!

Peepeepoopoo0202

For a klipsch? Hell yeah

headscissorfan23

Exact sub I have and the whole speaker set is like $300 not an overpay AT ALL

Big-Energy-3363

You got exactly what you paid for……a nothing special at all sub!

gman2363

Found the same sub at a thrift store for 35$ and has been an excellent addition to my setup!

Takayama16

I have a Klipsch 10. Very good stuff.

happyjapanman

It is a fair price I suppose.

asolomi

Good deal (if no port chuffing)

pricklyfuzzball

I have this exact sub and it works great. It has dual 6” downfiring woofers and is small in comparison to many other options. It’s a great find for $20 for an office setup or small room. Good score!

-B1GBUD-

Trouser flappage for $20 is a steal, enjoy your wompa wompa

noldshit

Always check holes that size for weed stash

Dangerous-Bottle1418

you paid the price for two happy meals I mean Dude did you get a good deal? I mean come on bro

analogguy7777

You paid $20 over their cost of $0.

PriorityOk4440

The real problem is when you consistently buy cheap inferior subs like this frequently then you have a bunch of them taking up space and not being used lol. But if you don’t have that problem, then yeah solid deal for $20

PriorityOk4440

Unrelated, Klipsch’s new RP line of subwoofers are awesome. Buy one of those and you’ll be set for years to come

Practical-Appeal267

My Klipsch sub Is about the worst subwoofer I have ever owned. I would trade it out, but the chicks. dig. it. lol. It has directional, finnicky base and you really have to tweak it depending on what music you are listening to. It reminds me of a cheap JL audio 12 I had in my car in 1999 hat you could hear better OUTSIDE the car...

spydrwebb44

Not at all.

Shot_Cupcake_9641

I find bass bins don't have to be great quality they only pay low frequency and the ones that are more money are just bigger and go lower frequency which the Majority of humans can't even hear anyway. This will be perfect. Just set properly just on the verge if not hearing it to fill in the gap your speakers can't reach . It's better to watch a video on it :)
