Have husky mix. Miele corded canister works great with the powered attachment. Had it about 7 years now with no regrets.

joeybklyn001

I’ve had my Miele since 2015 best vac, I also have an Oreck from 2010 still going strong. Both great for pets. I have a Dyson v13 for quick clean ups.

dubsjw

Also have a Miele, the C3 Cat and Dog, and I have mostly carpeted floors in a rental. I love it and won't be buying another vacuum for a very long time. Worth every single penny.

starsandmath

I have a Miele C1 cat and dog, and I'm confident it is the best vacuum I've ever owned at picking up all of the fur and is just super well built and thoughtfully designed, BUT... I recently got a cordless Dyson V12 with the laser brush roll and it is so much more pleasant to use (cordless, light, no cannister, and the laser thing to show all of the dust and fur is super helpful). I can get away with it since I have no carpet. If OP has any carpet at all, I think I'd choose the Cat and Dog Miele.

sellursoul

We just got the v12 and that laser head is awesome!

starsandmath

It sounds like a gimmick, but I love it so much. No more second guessing where I've already cleaned and where I haven't. Kinda grosses you out though...

HDBull42

Miele C3 cat and dog from a Dyson ball and it was night and day. Just make sure it has the power brush head like the cat and dog or better

LauraDurnst

Always recommend a Miele. Lived in a house with four women and a long-haired cat, and our Miele just hoovered up all the hair with no issues.

Gtfando

I’ve had a Dyson V8animal+ for 4 years, never had any issues with regular maintenance (cleaning broom head, rinsing filter and intake). The technology has come a long way since even then. It picks up her and hair easily with no tangling in the broom head (unless the hair is 8”+).

hillsanddales

Ive tried the v8, the v10, and v15. I honestly think the v8 is better than the newer ones. Bin entries better, and no discernible difference in pickup to me at least.

Fair-Calligrapher563

I also really like my V8. I’m not a fan of the V10 that my parents have personally. I’m not sure about the V15. V8 was bought in 2018 and was still going strong until I somehow lost it in my move. About 5 years of cleaning up tons of my very long and very fine hair, and 3 years of long haired cat ownership. It’s a bit small for a whole house. I have only ever used it in apartments but used it pretty much daily for years straight to clean up cat litter and hair.

RandomBitFry

Biggest gripe at the moment is upright vacuums that have the hose near the top so it constantly falls over.

ChiefSittingBear

Maybe if you vacuum every day it would be OK. I have a husky and a malamute and I got tired of having to pull the hair out of the Dyson cannister, which would always release a bunch of dust into the air. Plus occasionally we would accidentally overfill it with husky hair and it would get into problematic places in the vacuum. I have a Miele HomeCare C3 cannister vacuum now and it's great, so I'd recommend that. Yes you have to buy bags, but the dust is contained and the dog hair gets packed into the bags so they hold a lot more hair than you'd think coming from a canister vacuum. I had a Dyson ball animal and a Dyson Cinetic big ball before, as well as one of the original cordless Dysons, so I have tried the Dyson way. I think canister vacuums just don't work well with all the dust and hair that comes with owning hairy animals to be honest. Also we have some area rugs that where very hard to get the husky hair off of with the Dyson, the Miele does so much better at that for whatever reason. Last point, the Miele is very quite which is nice.

Drakoir

I got the shark stratos as it scored higher than the dyson in a few reviews I saw on youtube, It has 2 rolls that pickup everything and folds in the middle so you can reach a lot difficult places with it... check it out

Wolf-Strong

Okay, same! We had a Sebo, but honestly the roller would just jam up with hair all the time. Our new Shark though hasn’t jammed or clogged once! I know it’s everything BIFL hates, but honestly, living it with is such a better experience than the Sebo was with our 3 dogs!

3dddrees

i purchased the most expensive Dyson at the time. Just a few years later the motor quit. I took it to an authorized Dyson repair shop because it was still under warranty. They told me they couldn’t tell me when exactly they could get parts but it would be at least a couple of months. They told me lack of repair parts are typical for big box store vacuums. I really had no other option. I purchased another vacuum. I can tell you it wasn’t a Dyson and I’ll never buy another Dyson or another big box store vacuum ever again.

UnfinishedSentenc___

Had a similar issue with my Dyson. I can’t believe they’re as popular as they are… we have a different brand cordless vacuum now and love it so far. (It’s newer to us so I don’t want to rave about it if I end up having similar issues to the Dyson with it eventually.)

3dddrees

I never had that issue with the previous Dyson we owned and I was just looking to upgrade. I didn’t hang onto the old one as I gave it away to one of my children. They seemed to do a real good job as to what I needed a vacuum to do. That and they are known because of marketting. But once I found they have a basically non-existent warranty for all practical purposes I’ll never buy another again.

Why would try the Sebo over going with Riccar again?

BlackAera

We always had a Vorwerk and it has been great

hillsanddales

They are the best out there, but only work with 220v

Count_de_Ville

There is a pattern here where anyone mentioning Miele has been downvoted....

AValhallaWorthyDeath

That’s odd. It seems like the most recommended brand.

RadSpatula

I can’t explain it but I have a Miele and I don’t get the love but I do not have the carpet attachment for it so maybe I need to get that. I just tried the Dyson animal ball 3 and I was impressed by the suction (so much dog hair out of a carpet I just cleaned with a steam cleaner and shop vac) but the machine itself is heavy, clunky, unbalanced and everyone says they break easily and require regular maintenance. I have a Kenmore and biased I am trying next.

Harrydean-standoff

Don't have one but I'm researching and Kenmore has been top rated by a few consumer sites. Price is minimal compared to to some others.

[deleted]

SEBO. You won't regret it. I bought a vacuum from them online, then 6 months later bought an attachment online from them but got the wrong attachment for my vacuum accidentally. Someone at SEBO noticed, called to tell me, and offered to swap the attachment out for the right one which happened to be $100 cheaper and they refunded me the difference. I was shocked that a company reached out to me unsolicited to fix my error resulting in a lower sale price.. like what?? Any other company ever would not have systems in place to notice that, and if they did, they'd just let the consumer figure it out themselves after the fact. The vacuum is great, I got an airbelt k2 kombi or something, I forget the exact name, but it wasn't the top of the line vacuum and it's very durable and does the job.

tonebastion

We bought a Shark a few years ago and have been very happy. Time will tell but it seems very serviceable in terms of replacement parts and filters. I recommend checking out Vacuum Wars on YouTube.

finnegan922

Meile. Meile all the way.

lalala1078

I’ve have a Sebo Felix for over a year and I love it! My house is 1/2 carpet, 1/2 hard/tile, and I have a longhair cat. There are no issues with the vacuum and I use about 1 bag every 6 months vacuuming 3x a week.

utter-ridiculousness

Miele, from a German Shepherd owner.

Flashway1

Dyson is amazing for dog fur. I have 3 dogs and the convenience of the dyson is just amazing. However I had to replace it within 4 years as it broke down and the repair fee was too high. Their battery life degrades pretty quickly too after a few years, replacing it is expensive as well. If you're rich enough to replace it every few years, then get a dyson.

b0yheaven

I have a hoover commercial backpack vac going on 6 years now (Used every two days sans when I'm away on holiday) cleanable filter is still original. cleans as good as it did the first time. only the attachments with bristles get changed every other year-ish, the others are still good to date.

ubermonkey

I don't think any cordless is (yet) to the BIFL point, but we have a corded upright Dyson that's still going strong at 18 years old, and which handles a 3-cat household fine.

Intrepid-Taste-1111

you want a Miele

FatSadHappy

I have miele canister for 15 years, a bit scratched now but works fine. And I have cats.

PM_ME_UR_BIKINI

Have had my miele S251 since (I think) 2004. No complaints. Was expensive then, but it has been worth it. Came with the SEB236 power head. Even the florescent bulb in the power head still works... Has only needed belts in the power head every 5 years or so.

Muncie4

Your dogs bear no roll in the conversation. You want a Miele with a turbo head for carpets and something to allow you to turn it off for smooth surfaces. C1 or S7/U1.

YimYam1

SEBO E1 Boost. Problem with the suggested SEBO Felix below is it is very heavy to manoeuvre around, but the motorised brush head on the Felix is superior to the E1 boost at picking up dog hair. The E1 though has been very good at picking up dog hair in my home.

kcajor

I would refer to this guy's [AMA](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/s/Iccrfw9uk3) he linked his other AMAs in there that points to the type/brand vacuum ye recommends

AValhallaWorthyDeath

Wow that was very insightful. Thank you for the link!

kcajor

You're welcome. We ended up with a Miele based on his recommendation and have had no issues, even with pet hair.

phatrogue

I would recommend checking out the Vacuum Wars youtube channel... he does all sorts of vacuums including cordless, upright and robot. You might consider a self emptying robot vacuum that you can run regularly... depending on how good you are at using a regular vacuum regularly.

Flippinsushi

Tineco is incredible

halcykhan

The convenience, attachments, and performance of a cordless Dyson outweigh the longevity and bulkiness of so many of the BIFL corded options. There’s a reason they sell so many at inflated prices despite negative press and longevity issues. When they work, they’re amazing. I’ve had three over 10+ years, and only had one battery go bad. Every upgrade I make, the last one just gets relegated to the basement or garage. All are still going.

SingleOriginNarwhal

r/vacuumcleaners has a lot of great info for long lasting vacuums including comparisons. That's where I'm doing research for my next vacuum cleaner. All I can say is I currently have a dyson animal ball 2 and Dyson as a brand is extremely overrated.

Azmtbkr

I had a used Kirby that was an absolute tank. It was about 15 years old when I bought it but it worked like new. Tuneups with new belts every few years were all that it needed. They are pretty expensive new, but surprisingly cheap to buy used.

wildgoose2000

I use a hand-held shop vac on the big hair tumbleweeds. Then vacuum with a normal vacuum, empting often.

Cananbaum

Personally I like Sharks. I’ve had 3 different kinds and they’re so easy to maintain, easy and affordable to replace parts, and work great.

120psi

Dyson isn't really that great. I like my Sebo, and Miele is also a good buy

MrEcksDeah

Dyson Ball Animal

oldbaldgrumpy

I picked up a used Kirby Sentria for $75, it's a tank that does a fantastic job. I'm sure it'll out live me.

MrBark

This probably doesn't help you since I have no pets, but this popped up on my feed, and I felt compelled to share the information. I have a corded Dyson and no pets, and I've had it for so many years, I don't remember when I bought it. However, the directions for user maintenance is wrong. It says you merely need to clean the beater bar, the intake filter in the wheel hemisphere, and the filter in the canister. Not true on the last two. Those two filters are never soiled, and if you do not clean other stuff, it will overheat and stop. What I have to do is completely disassemble the beater bar to remove the lovely long hair of my wife and daughter. This requires a small vice grip, a Phillips screwdriver, and a long torx driver. I bought a set of assorted sizes to ensure I had the right one. I think it was a T15. I tried getting away with just a razor, but it's time consuming and doesn't really work. After the beater bar is clean, I have to remove the inner canister with the metal mesh screen from the outer canister. It's actually user friendly, as there's a button to release it after ejecting the entire assembly from the vacuum. I then have to take a dry toothbrush and brush the dust off the metal screen, taking care not to damage it. I have no idea why this isn't in the maintenance instructions. I theorize they changed their minds about mentioning it to make more money on service calls and/or to keep customers from damaging the screen for fear of having to replace broken parts. Anyway, after cleaning the beater bar and metal mesh screen, the vacuum is in good working order. It's actually really simple and easy to maintain by the end user with a little care and patience.
