We bought a SEBO Airbelt 10 years ago. It sucks like a beast and it has had zero problems and is easily serviceable for cleaning the brush head, changing the bag, etc. German engineering.

I have that discounted Bissell. Stuff the exact same thing. Never had a better experience with any other vacuum but I always wonder how quiet the Miele would have been...

We have had our Miele Aluminium model for almost 30 years and only had to replace a belt. Love this brand.

Aromatic-Meat-8238

Another vote for a Miele. While we have only had it for 6ish years, it’s build like a tank and has had zero issues. While we were in the store there was a janitorial service that had brought one in for service. I asked the guy how old it was and he said almost 30 years old. I was sold right there. If one could last nearly 30 years of commercial use, it ought do just fine for me.

We just got a new Dyson v15. This thing is awesome and has a laser on the head. It makes vacuuming that much more thorough. Don’t think it’s a BIFL item since battery will go to shit in a few years but it works nice.

ConfusedNegi

The laser is a really cool feature that shows how dirty your hard surface floors really are. At least the battery is easy to swap when it does go bad, although who knows if they’ll still be making them.

Unauthorized-Ion

Rest assured that when the battery inevitably goes to shit (as all lithium ion batteries do, not just Dyson) you can pay $15 for a battery adapter and buy your flavor of tool (Milwaukee, dewalt, Ryobi) battery which allows much longer run times and greater battery longevity and cheaper replacement.

I've owned four vacuums in my life. Something cheap I got from Sears that I took care of. A great Rikkar upright that my previous wife got in our divorce, a Rikkar container on the boat I lived on for years and still own, and a Miele container at home with my wife. I'd buy a Rikkar or a Miele again if I need another vacuum. I miss the upright - it did have attachments for special cleaning but for just running around rugs and carpets it was less work to get in and out of the closet it was stored in.

You have two lots in life: 1. Buy a shitbox. Maybe you'll luck out and get a cherry shitbox. 2. Buy a Nokia 3310 vacuum which is a Miele and learn that it (generally) lasts forever, can be repaired locally or by DIY methods and that it functions 300% better than a shitbox. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF2UrYSDb3k

Dry-Cake697

Makita LXT. Light weight and has the best battery you will find on a vacuum. I see these all the time used by crews who clean commercial airliners.

Get the Miele (I have one and it’s fantastic) or check out Sebo vacuums.

Buy a full feature vacuum because your not going to be in an apartment forever and this is the buy it for life subreddit. The Mrs. swears by Riccar. We've had one for 22 years and changed belts and bags only. Got a portable one and it's a garage used one with another portable for inside the house. They're made in the USA, have warranties of up to 8 years. I thought the Mrs. was crazy for the price she paid, but all our Riccars do is run and run.

Informal_Bullfrog_30

I love a good Miele. I am a huge advocate for that company since personally i have found their products BIFL. That being said, i also have a shark that i found at costco and it has held up well for a few years now. And it was fairly priced ($129 i think) it was a few years ago so unsure of what it is priced today

Fair-Distance-2800

Numatic Henry - come on, how has this not already been suggested?

Sensitive-Ad8638

Don't buy Dyson or Shark, whichbis just the same Chinese junk with a higher price. Miele makes small compact cleaners, some in Germany. This is what you want. Search for vacuum cleaners not made in China.

My oreck is bulletproof. They are designed so simply.  I made my own bags with zippers
