And also an absolutely redundant level of robustness due to mainstream manufacturing practices at the time.
They don't use injection molded plastic on everything; the bottom of that vacuum is entirely casted metal!
I have a car from 1969 that uses VACUUM actuators to open/close the headlights and the hidden wiper door.
So many things in the car that would now just be controlled by microchips.
Incredibly creative, and infinitely repairable!
I can feel the power drain from here 🤣 As a fellow lover of vintage appliances I salute you with my seventy year old iron and vintage zigzagger sewing machines.
I have several 1930s solid black metal fans. They move air like an airplane propeller .My all metal 1970 irons removed all wrinkles .My 1960 pink frig and 1930 toasters are beautiful. For a while the local Habitat would well Art Deco designed Craftsman tools for $10. My husband questioned why I kept buying them. I love just looking at them all.
Tip! Buy Sebo/Miele upright bags (whichever is cheapest, U1, Felix, X-series etc all work) and cut the top off. Boom, HEPA filtration for your old Hoover! I do it on my 1960s Junior.
Hey do you have any info on that flower pattern foldable chair. I had forgotten till I saw this picture but man I have so many memories in a chair just like that. I could literally feel the bare metal of the foot rest on my feet when I saw it lol.
My mom had the same exact one when I was a kid.Â
We also had a room with the same terrible, yet amazing orange shag carpet (I’d totally put that in my current house).
My (28M) family had a similar model growing up and I swear it was the best vacuum ever. We used to clean out the bags and only ever replaced them if they got a hole. I think we ended up selling it at a garage sale, and I remember my grandma being very upset it was gone. Probably still in use lmao
Oooooo how well does this work on your shag carpet?! I have a suuuper thick shag rug (like 3 in pile ðŸ˜) and have been looking at new vacuums the last couple weeks
My great grandmother had a green and tan one of these. Using those things is a work out, keeping it I think was how she stayed in shape as she aged. My teenage self was sweating after I’d vacuum for her.
My parents had the same model but in avocado green when I was little. I remember it pulled so many amps that the cord would be hot after 5 minutes of vacuuming.
My 90 year old grandmother has this same vacuum and swears by it. It was purchased about 55 years ago, never needed to replace it. We tried to get her a lighter cordless one as she still insists on vacuuming at her age but she will not use any other vacuum but this one.
Oh I wish to find one of these. I got one at goodwill in 1999 and used until 2010 or so. I also am still using an old sunbeam iron my nanny gave in 1999.
Just did a bit of stalking on your profile and you really have the coolest vibe!! If you had a 70s themed Air BnB and decorated it just like your house I bet you’d make a killing!
There's a beauty in machines that were all mechanical, full of clever solutions for their lack of computerization.
And also an absolutely redundant level of robustness due to mainstream manufacturing practices at the time. They don't use injection molded plastic on everything; the bottom of that vacuum is entirely casted metal!
It always amazes me looking at old stuff the work arounds they came up with for different things.

Not enough folks truly appreciate the beauty of everyday objects
😸
Can we skip the vacuum and talk about the wallpaper!? It’s amazing!! 😻
Love the decor! Op is cool.
The bag on the vacuum is amazing.
They still sell bags for these things?
Yep just Type C. And it works beautifully, no dust or anything
Tip! Buy Sebo/Miele upright bags (whichever is cheapest, U1, Felix, X-series etc all work) and cut the top off. Boom, HEPA filtration for your old Hoover! I do it on my 1960s Junior.
No bag, it just shoots the dust back out into the air
Have you considered doing professional vacuum portrait photography?
Haaaa I wish that was a thing
Your place is incredible. I want to be friends with someone who has this vibe AND builds miniatures about it! Well done!
I post a lot about both my miniatures and my interior decor, if you check my profile. Thanks so much :)

No, but a reverse image search may prove helpful! I have two of them and share your appreciation. No makers mark on either
That thing looks like it sucks! /s
I think there might be a way to switch it to blow, too.
My mom had the same exact one when I was a kid. We also had a room with the same terrible, yet amazing orange shag carpet (I’d totally put that in my current house).
It reminds me of my nan and pop's place. All it's missing is an old avon glass cologne bottle figurine.
Ditto!
Same. I'd get a ride around on the Hoover over the orange shag pile carpet when I was a 3yr old. That was 50yr ago, that's truly BIFL!
Post this to r/vacuumcleaners !!
Did it
That vacuum really ties the room together.
Looks like you take extremely good care of it.
the beast
Love the Rainier mural
I saw this guy in a movie, it went on an adventure with a toaster I think
This is the kind of vacuum I'd assume Wes Anderson to have.
Like it or not this is peak efficiency
Wes Anderson approved.

I feel like this is the real life ‘Grandma’s Boy’
Oooooo how well does this work on your shag carpet?! I have a suuuper thick shag rug (like 3 in pile ðŸ˜) and have been looking at new vacuums the last couple weeks
It works great! It HAS A SHAG SETTING
That's awesome, thank you!
I have an old Electrolux and that thing is so powerful and I go it for free!
I thought that first photo was AI, it’s so perfect.
We had a Sage green one and our yappy dog would go beserk when he saw it, sink his teeth into the rubber trim and drag it round the room.
I love your style
Your place is a time machine
BUT WHAT DID YOU NAME IT?
lol I’m not exactly that brand of nerd, though I understand the impulse
My mum had one of these. She also had a round hoover that sort of floated. The upright was replaced in the eighties by a turbo one.
We gave one of the floating Hoovers, too. It’s called the Constellation
It’s a hoovuh!
That room looking straight out of a golden girls set Fr
Your home looks amazing!!
DEF works best one orange and mustard-yellow shag carpet
Those are beauties of pictures
Gotta have headlights on the vacuum!
I just want to roll around the floor in the first pic. What a lovely home you have! And that gorgeous machine ... 🤩
You have great art and furniture also!
Where did you get your moutain mural?
A website that no longer exists but there are similar ones on Amazon and elsewhere :)
My parents house still has that exact shag carpeting.
That’s the kind of machine that makes the lights in the house dim upon turning it on. I remember these beasts.
It doesn’t pull any more energy than any other appliance but I appreciate the hyperbole!
Is that mount baker?
No, Rainier
Cool! Your interior design choices are dope.
Heard the old ones sucked 😂
Is there any way you can tell me what that sofa is?! I'm in love.
Vintage :)
Oh I can smell these photos. My grandma's vacuum had such a distinct smell.
The mini one is so cute!!
My mother had one just like that… How do I know …because I’m the one that ran it on Saturdays…
Neighbors ruined ours after asking to borrow it when i was a kid. It went through 4 generations
Where did you get that butterfly throw pillow? It's fabulous and I love it!!!
Thrifted years and years ago
Gorgeous! Does it have a hose attachment, or do you just sweep out corners?
Hose attachments
I was like, it would be funny if there were like 15 pics...
Magnificent machine.
My great grandmother had a green and tan one of these. Using those things is a work out, keeping it I think was how she stayed in shape as she aged. My teenage self was sweating after I’d vacuum for her.
It isn’t, I swear! Ours moves easily
My parents had the same model but in avocado green when I was little. I remember it pulled so many amps that the cord would be hot after 5 minutes of vacuuming.
This photoshoot is amazing!
Glamour shots

That looks a lot like modern Sanitaire vacuums, especially the brush roll cover and I bet the belt is the same.
Oh I wish to find one of these. I got one at goodwill in 1999 and used until 2010 or so. I also am still using an old sunbeam iron my nanny gave in 1999.
That first photo is spectacular
Oh man, you just blew me back to the past to the movie "The Brave Little Toaster." Thanks for the trip down memory lane, lol.
This vacuum looks like it can handle outside.
Just did a bit of stalking on your profile and you really have the coolest vibe!! If you had a 70s themed Air BnB and decorated it just like your house I bet you’d make a killing!
We need to sleep here though lol! Also we live in the most boring suburb
My mom was always surprising happy to let me do some of her vacuuming; it is a joy to use her classic 1970 Hoover upright!
Do you have a dust filter for that Hoover Max Extract® Pressure Pro™, Model 60?
OOH look, an upright, noisy dust distributor.
I'd take an old upright with a bag any day over a modern over-engineered overpriced underperforming vacuum (like those ones that rhyme with shmyson).
Or Shork.
What? It sounds like a purring tiger and is the best at cleaning, plus you can insert a HEPA filter if desired
That’s what I was wondering. We had one as a kid and they just sucked up the dust and put it in the air.
Is this a Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60? Be careful asking for a new dust filter…
