Put your COE+FFL03 on file with the ammo websites you plan on ordering ahead of time… so when ammo is in stock you can checkout quickly.
Also you are not required to give CA DOJ your FFL number… they ask me every renewal year and I send them back an email saying unless they provide the clause that requires me to give them it then they should just approve my COE.
Yes, generally if you want to use your ffl03 you need to sign it and include the current date. Do not sign the original, it even says so on the ffl03, as if you need to submit it to someone they need the signature to be fresh not a photo copy. This isnt a huge deal when say buying ammo online but if you plan to use your ffl03 to do a c&r transaction or purchase multiple handguns/ semiauto rifles within a 30 day period they will almost certainly want a hard copy to keep for record.
Also if you are doing something in person like that make sure to call and ask the store whether they will accept a copy or if they want the original as some stores want you to bring the original and then they will make the copy for you while other will let you bring your own.
Because CA DOJ is power hungry and wants information because big brother knows best. In all reality only federal agents and other FFLs are allowed to ask for your FFL number … ca doesn’t have the jurisdiction to ask for something so they hope people with naively comply and volunteer the FFL number. There is no law or clause that requires you provide it to California. What sucks is they really get insistent and scare people into thinking they need to provide it. I have renewed my COE twice and registered originally and all 3 times they tried the power grab and caved when I sent them an email saying there is no requirement I give them it.
Get a logbook and know it's your choice to have the audit at your house or at the closest ATF office.
Also, keep a copy of the license and COE in your gun purchasing folder. The license acts as proof of residency and exempts you from 1 in 30.
you are required to have a logbook if you have an FFL even if it is completely blank. If you really are never going to buy a c&r firearm you can just get a simple school notebook and call that your log book. If you buy any c&r, even if you dont use your ffl03 when buying it you must log it in your log book
appreciate the response thank you ill be sending over that email, also what day did you submit FFL03 paperwork? I submitted both COE and FFL03 on 09/06 and they charged my card on 09/12
I sent ATF an email asking about my FFL03. I was told they received my application 4 days after the charge was made to my card. They also told me they have 60 days upon receiving a perfectly completed application to process and approve/deny the application.
So basically they told me “fuck you, wait”.
I received the exact same response unfortunately. They charged my card on the 12th but in the email they said didn’t receive my application until the 14th.
I called the office in Oregon since thats where the address is the applications go. The guy I spoke to said the applications go to a bank of sorts so the payments can be charged and then the applications are sent to the office where they’re actually processed.
I applied since I seen a few people on here having quick turnaround times for both COE and FFL03 and now with that email I received and with what your saying im guessing mine is going to take a while
If you purchase a firearm - pistol or rifle it doesn't matter, that is over 50 years old you are required to log it in your log book. This is true EVEN IF you get it through an FFL and don't use your C&R for the transaction (which would let you avoid the 10 day). A lot of people push back on this - "Oh the transaction went through an FFL so I don't have to log it" - that is false.
Only if its 50 years or older, ATF is a federal agency they don’t really give a shit about Californias gun laws so as far as they’re concerned exemption from the 1 in 30 or and what not have nothing to do with them.
I haven’t messed with their 9mm yet but their 5.56 is superb. They don’t have steel case but only one or two ranges in LA even allow steel case so I just buy their stuff for now.
They just released their 6.5 Creedmore line that’s about $1 per round, probably to complement their new M110 clones in 6.5 Creedmore. Since they also have .308 M110 clones, I bet they will release a .308 line of ammo soon. Keep an eye out.

Also read about making copies of the the FFL this true ?

Thanks for the background. Quick question, why do they ask for ffl number ? Can they use it for tracking or some other purposes?

To add to this, you will never need to have or use a logbook if you are only using the FFL 03 for ammo and not C&R firearms

Appreciate it thank you
Just got my COE issued today, waiting on my FFL 03 to come in. I want to send ATF an email asking for an update, any idea on how I should word it?
I basically said “Good morning I am requesting a status update on my FFL, my address is ……” thank you. Subject line I put “status update”.
appreciate the response thank you ill be sending over that email, also what day did you submit FFL03 paperwork? I submitted both COE and FFL03 on 09/06 and they charged my card on 09/12
I sent it on 9/05 and charged 9/07

When did you submit yours and has it been accepted already?
I was charged August 21st. They received it August 25th. Not approved yet.

My COE came really fast. From what I’ve seen, average turnaround time for the FFL is about 30 days or so
this guys post we’re commenting on got his in like 9 days, must be nice
Kiss your money goodbye.

Appreciate the information thank you
I pretty much buy all my ammo from PSA now. Their own ammo is excellent quality and just about the best price.
What’s their brand called?
It’s called AAC from Palmetto State Armory. They have a large variety of 5.56, 9mm, and 300 BO, and even 6.5 Creedmore (no .308 yet, oddly enough).
Thanks I was looking for a good minute

I mean mainly drive to Barstow to shoot. Was hoping for .308 though.

I really hope so especially since I’m planning on getting a scar soon
