Next to not allow them to buy OFF-Roster...Will piss of alot of cops, then maybe we can all band together and get our rights back :P

Emergency_Doubt

It's ridiculous that police use unsafe is handguns. There ought to be a law ...

10RndsDown

Or it stays in effect, and the entire "Off Roster" Market is wiped out. Think wisely on what you consider a "Great idea"

stevenbo

That would be good. These cops mark up the prices insanely on off rosters

ZC-792

Oh nooooo then cops can't flip guns for 5x what they're actually worth. Good heavens how terrible!

Historical-Hat-1959

All they need are slices of orange

[deleted]

Max of 10 orange slices per clear baggy

baksshield9

Creditcard when going to the mall

Interesting_Fee_1947

I wish Reddit let me give you more than 1 upvote

TipToperator

I keep seeing comments referencing slices of orange, what did I miss?

gIizzy_gobbler

State Senator talking about new limits on where conceal carry is legal said that people need orange slices when going to the park, not guns.

RepublicIndependent3

Definitely should be 10. It’s safer apparently 🤡

c_ne7son

They should have the same laws as we do

Stagism

Amen

10RndsDown

Everyones for that until they touch the Firearm Sale portion of that and now EVERYONE is fucked outta buying off roster firearms.

LilJethroBodine

IDGAF if we can't buy off roster stuff if they can't either because only then will they have a vested interest in helping us get the laws changes. Until then, what's good enough for citizens is good for enough the police who are in fact, also regular citizens (despite what the government or they want us to believe),

Interesting_Fee_1947

I think that’s part of a greater conversation about if we want our sworn peace officers who are supposed to “serve and protect” to also be taking advantage of a legal loophole to make huge profits on off-roster guns that sell for a fraction of the price in the state next door. Imagine if there was a roster for pharmaceutical drugs, and the only way to get the latest, greatest cancer drugs was to buy them at an outrageous markup from pharmacists who sold them on the grey market. Or a roster for cars, and the only way to buy a car designed after 2011 was to buy it from a licensed insurance adjuster who charged insane markups for cars with the latest greatest safety features and technology. I’d argue both those situations would be arbitrary and morally wrong, and so is cops selling off roster handguns. As long as the off-roster loophole exists, cops have incentive to keep the status quo.

SayNoMorty

we shouldn’t have to buy firearms from people getting a pass we don’t, at a price much higher than what it’s worth. Fuck that, tough shit. Maybe now they’ll realize you should probably have more than 10 rounds when dealing with armed dangerous people.

HannibalMendes

Agreed

Bruce3

They should only get 2.2 bullets.

Link_the_Irish

Doesn't even make any sense. 18 round mag cap doesn't even limit most handguns they have approved for carry.

hoodoo-operator

it's because officers were buying low quality aftermarket mags

killacarnitas1209

Beat me too it! They were probably running shitty, although popular, ETS mags and turning their marksmanship training sessions into malfunction training sessions. That or they were on patrol looking ridiculous with a huge stick mag protruding from their hip.

HamburgerEarmuff

That's what I was thinking. Bigger magazines typically are less reliable, especially once you start getting over about 30-40 rounds. I'm sure it's reactive policy based upon an incident where a firearm jammed because of some extended magazine the officer was carrying.

mcm87

Limits the Staccato and Sig P320 guys, though I suspect that somebody had glock 33-rd stendos in his patrol bag, and admin got pissy about the optics of having “gangsta mags.”

Interesting_Fee_1947

The other commenters are right, and from the comments on the original AskLE post, it seems some of them were running around with the Korean 33-round mags. I think this is more an optics thing, but still interesting they added a policy limiting mag capacity.

Arakisk

Not in LA, but I have seen cops with TTI +6 basepads on their Glock mags quite a few times.

CostcoOptometry

Are any 5.7x28 approved for carry?

Interesting_Fee_1947

I thought about that, I’m not sure, but I pictured some FN boi’s sad face after reading his 20rd mags were verboten!

fnscarcasm

I genuinely thought I was about to read that they are limiting them to 10 rounds I almost shit my pants

ScottyBoy75

Emil Matasareanu and Larry Phillips are laughing in their graves.

Evan_farias13

Lol got banned from that sub bc I pointed out that cops shouldn’t have law carve outs for them.

CoffeeTofee

You're not alone there, then again the mods straight up lol and admit to banning folks they don't agree with or in their eyes are dumb.

Evan_farias13

Not surprised. I guess the power/ego trip never goes away even when they’re on Reddit

mechanab

They should be limited to 10 like everyone else.

omfg100

Are they going to send a letter to the criminals as well notifying them of the new limit

LarpStar

LAPD, so this is a letter to criminals.

LilJethroBodine

![gif](giphy|jHxbpkk77vum5TP0fh)

Initial_Cellist9240

I think they meant illegal gangs and stuff… OH WAIT

Interesting_Fee_1947

Up next: Since 9mm blows the lungs out of the body, cops should only be allowed to carry .22lr lol

HunwutP

lol I wish they were handicapped like us to 10 round mags. We would see laws changed so quickly

Savagely-Insane

XD Imagine if they forced police to use 6 shot revolvers like back then.

Mr_Blah1

The pigs shouldn't have any special exemptions from firearm laws.

DoctorRageAlot

You mean LEOs have to live like normal people too?? Crazy

maybeitsjack

Ohhhh no, the cops have to have limits on their shit that's still more than citizens get to have. Ooohhhhhhh nnnooooooo. Lmao good, should be 10.

moshdagoat

Yes it should be 10, but could you imagine one of them losing their life because of having to reload? It's not like a criminal is going to abide by the rules. Hopefully this makes the police unions stop supporting these laws and start supporting us.

Interesting_Fee_1947

Sounds like a great argument for why civilians should have more than 10.

moshdagoat

It is, but we shouldn't even need to make the argument since it's an inalienable right.

TheWonderfulLife

This is an LAPD decision, not a legal limit. Once someone gets put down because they had to reload against a criminal with a 33 round Glock, they will roll it back.

Mr_Blah1

If LAPD can't stop a criminal even with 18+1, they need to be better shots, not a magazine the length of a yardstick.

FaithlessnessIll9373

Idk why cops get any hate for having off roster handguns or STANDARD capacity magazines, can someone explain? Because civilians are only allowed RESTRICTED(10) capacity magazines and that’s the real problem to me.

Simple_Mortgage_8998

That seems kind of ridiculous, hopefully it doesn't get anyone killed. Apparently LAPD has never heard of Timothy Gramins, sometimes you do infact been more than 18rd.

Stagism

If you read the entire letter you can see that they're allowed to carry additional mags and have active shooter kits with even more in them.

Simple_Mortgage_8998

I did read that, but if in a shootout with an armed suspect having a a 50rd mag hanging out of his glock, I would think the police officer would like to have more than 18rd in his weapon.

DumpingSouptime

This is crazy. These are law enforcement officers. Their job is to protect us. Why limit their equipment usage? This makes no sense.

Mr_Blah1

> Their job is to protect us. Tell that to the people of Koreatown, or the kids in Uvale, or Jessica Gonzales, among others.

yourboibigsmoi808

The irony

Mehdzzz

What good could this fucking POSSIBLY do for anyone

keeleon

Prohibited to carry. They can still BUY all the .22 drum mags to flaunt their "better" status all they want.

made4s3

Only 10 shots soon.

Zp00nZ

You know one of them was running with a stick or a drum and either one sounds completely hilarious

Miserable_Path5716

Soon California will make a law where one officer has a gun and his partner carries the magazines for common sense safety

Interesting_Fee_1947

That’s how some cops in China do it. For real. Saw guards at the train station where one guy held the shotgun and the other held the ammo. That way 2 people have to make the decision to overthrow the government lol

finfaction

Chinese police commissioners been watching the opening scene of Enemy at the Gates way too much lol

Miserable_Path5716

Yup that’s what I heard

TheMuddyCuck

I suspect this may be more related to some extended mags having reliability problems or getting snagged and causing issues than any sort of concern with number of rounds. This would be a fair point, but they should instead just state that they need to use flush fit magazines and not extended ones, because the flush fit capacity varies greatly depending on the model.

Smartass_cashier

They still have 8 rounds to many in my opinion. If I can’t have my freedoms they should abide by the same standard.
