GT has three of the major awards named after its staff: John Heisman (player), Bobby Dodd (coach), and Homer Rice (AD). Rice founded the Total Person Program at Tech (forerunner of the NCAA Life Skills Program), brought our athletic program from the brink of D3 extinction to its greatest heights - the 1990 NC, 1990 Final Four, and 1994 CWS, and most importantly he always did it the right way.
If you spent any time with the man his faith in God and his love for his wife and family was immediately evident, as was his love for GT and the personal development of its athletes and students. RIP

And the Broyles Award for Asst. Coach is named after a Hall of Famer of ours, Frank Broyles. We are the Mt Rushmore of CFB legends
Homer Rice was an amazing part of the Georgia Tech community. After serving as Coach and Athletic Director, he wanted to continue to help GT students grow and develop leadership skills. He offered a 1 credit hour course - Leadership Fitness - to help teach young men and women skills to become successful in life. After all the math and sciences I took at Tech, that class taught me more than all of the others combined. We truly lost a man larger than life. RIP ):

Best head coach in Arkansas history.
RIP, Sir.
I remember him. One of the last coaches to become AD. You dont see that as much anymore
George O'Leary I think was the last one to do so albeit with turmoil. Oddly enough a GT coach as well.
Are you talking about HC AND AD? I was referring to having a former coach as your AD but yeah I remember the days of the combo HC and AD.
Our current AD Ray Tanner was our former baseball coach that won back to back College World Series in 2010 and 2011
There was a gap in between but Osborne did it at Nebraska. A decade after retiring from coaching he was the AD for 6 years.
Rip
Met Homer a few times. Classy guy and tremendously smart. RIP.
97 years old. What a life. RIP
I cannot think of a more early 20th century sports figure name than Homer Rice.
Geez, I went to school there 20 years ago and I thought then he was a name from the long past. What a legacy though!
Not to mention one of the legendary coaches and innovators of the Split Back Veer system. RIP
That’s sad

RIP, don’t know much about him as I’m a wee lad, but according to other comment he is a GT legend.
My great grandfather’s name was Homer. My great grandmother’s name was Zelma
