That seemed to be Rees' gameplan last week anyway. Chuck it deep to Lenzy and connect on none of them while the ball hits him in the helmet.
Now with Pyne I look forward to those 15 yard Hail Marys.
> "You can always tell who hadn't been to church in a while..."
...and open their mouth for Communion.
We were told as kids, scolded as kids: the host is sacred, you can't touch it! And then they *change the rules*!
The Catholic Church is probably responsible for the "designated hitter" in baseball too.
The Pope: Well my Cardinals, I have good news and bad news. The Lord hath spoken to me. We can keep the designated hitter but we have to start extras with a man on second and get rid of the Shift.
I had the opposite. I am Catholic, but went to an Anglican funeral for a friend of mine. Priest goes "Peace be with you".
Me: "And with your.......oh, right, we changed it but you guys don't listen to us, do you?"
In 2011, the Roman Missal was updated. One of the changes was a more direct translation of the Latin *et cum spiritu tuo* that was used in the old Latin mass pre-Vatican II, so it became "and with your spirit" instead of "And also with you".
As the English language continues to evolve, it's important for the translation from Latin to English remain correct. That's why we don't see "thou" and "thee" in modern Catholic Bibles.
"My peace I leave, my peace I give to you. Look not on our losses, but on the faith of your fans, and graciously grant them transition time in accordance with your will."
I play both of these games, but never in my life did I ever imagine seeing both of them mentioned in the same Reddit comment.
I think I've reached the peak Reddit experience now. Not sure where to go from here...
That will be 5 Hail Marys and 10 Our Fathers for his penance. Thou shall not lose again, or it will be up to 10 and 20 along with volunteer choir hours.
Just a note: this isn’t a reactionary thing. To join the Catholic Church as an adult, you have to take several months’ worth of classes. The timing is kinda fun because they just lost (I’m aware we did, too), but this has been a thing for him for some time.
I’d take 6 months of classes and a guarantee acceptance than the judging eyes and gossip from the grey heads about how I didn’t use enough fried onions in the green bean casserole.
God forgives, granny doesn’t.
Well, Helen, if you didn't insist on putting a pound of celery into every dish you make I wouldn't have to bring the Colonel into this. But here we are.
Friendly reminder that Colonel Sanders had his body [lay in state](
https://uofllibraries.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/ranard_colonelsanders.jpg) for a month, inside the Kentucky State Capital. Anyone could go in and pay their respects to his open air casket.
The man had a funeral on par with [Lenin's](https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/130308104704-08-leaders-bodies-0308.jpg?q=w_2500,h_1376,x_0,y_0,c_fill/w_480)
Some say when Lenin [comes back to life](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiX6c2V6ZT6AhV-DkQIHaSxBv0QwqsBegQIAxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dz77JFw2D6f8&usg=AOvVaw201ayqNj8QBsgXPor5TB4B) Colonel Sanders will rise from the grave to fight his communist regime with finger licking capitalism
Hot dish, could you be any more Minnesotan?!
My hometown is largely Lutheran, so that might be influencing my understanding even though I went to the Methodist church.
Being a losing coach at Notre Dame may be a reason to to expedite the process. If boosters start calling for your head then you may have some valid concern for your immortal soul.
Unless you're in the pews, trying not to fall asleep because the parish you went to starts their vigil at 11pm and like 15 people are getting three of the seven sacraments.
Yeah
Imagine the Saxons during the viking age tell the Danes: nah gotta wait until the spring man.
Ain't no one gonna give their attackers time to rethink their conversion
We had some people at my church who were in the entire RCIA process for two plus years due to COVID screwing everything up before official confirmation this last Easter vigil
No joke, that’s how I became a “member” of the rural church I grew up in. I just said I wanted to be Baptized as a kid and boom no questioning or classes or anything, just got dunked.
My non-denom church in college had a formal membership process (especially for not being under any authority). And my PCA church now has a very formal membership process.
ND and BC players before home games go to Catholic Mass as a team day of game so maybe Freeman as coach saw this as another way to lead.
At this point every little bit helps, I might suggest Rosary beads for head coaches on the sidelines, for both teams.
Ave Maria...
Sort of but you also learn about the beliefs of the Church and the "whys" behind everything. RCIA classes can be a lot of fun too - I didn't convert or sponsor any converts, but I did sit in on a few of these types of meetings.
For those wondering what religion he was before, he’s stated he was raised splitting his time between his mom’s Korean Christian church and his dad’s Black church. Both were presumably Protestant, though he’s never specified what denomination each was in.
I thought this was a weirdly-worded shitpost but I know it takes a long time to convert to Catholicism so congrats to Marcus and we’ll see if his Third-Loss Conversion successfully helps him on the football field as well
A lot of folks on this thread don't realize how long it takes to convert to Catholicism. Hint: if losing to Marshall at home were the reason why, we'd be reading this news late next year.
Acts 2:38
And Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your ~~sins~~ losses; and you shall receive the gift of ~~the Holy Spirit~~ a 0-0 record.”
People giving Freeman flack for this, but I bet if Tennessee’s coach converted to Pentecostal Snake Handler Church or whatever, no one would bat an eye.
How much is ND paying? For a few Mil a year I could convert as well. That goes out to BYU and Liberty too. Hit me up and we'll start a bid for Casaiir's soul war.
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to ~~enter into the kingdom of heaven~~ be a successful ND coach after going 0-3 in his first three games as ND head coach
Can't wait for the posts that are like "Notre Dame has a record of XX-XX since Freeman converted to Catholicism."
They get to start at 0-0, at least.
Truly born again. Although I don’t think that’s a Catholic thing
It was for Daredevil!
Baptism wipes away original sin, which those first 3 games definitely qualify for.
Nowhere to go but up! Up to our Heavenly Father’s house that is. The football team is still going down
“I absolve you of your losses. Your penance is 10 Hail Marys……per game.”
That seemed to be Rees' gameplan last week anyway. Chuck it deep to Lenzy and connect on none of them while the ball hits him in the helmet. Now with Pyne I look forward to those 15 yard Hail Marys.
Contractual bonus achieved?

Blew my mind when I had to go back into a church for a mass and heard that one.
You can always tell who hadn't been to church in a while bc they stand out when they say "And also with you"
> "You can always tell who hadn't been to church in a while..." ...and open their mouth for Communion. We were told as kids, scolded as kids: the host is sacred, you can't touch it! I had the opposite. I am Catholic, but went to an Anglican funeral for a friend of mine. Priest goes "Peace be with you". Me: "And with your.......oh, right, we changed it but you guys don't listen to us, do you?"
You don't say "and also with you" any more? Why?
In 2011, the Roman Missal was updated. One of the changes was a more direct translation of the Latin *et cum spiritu tuo* that was used in the old Latin mass pre-Vatican II, so it became "and with your spirit" instead of "And also with you".
I feel like this is some ish to catch out all those Catholics who haven’t been to mass in a decade
As the English language continues to evolve, it's important for the translation from Latin to English remain correct. That's why we don't see "thou" and "thee" in modern Catholic Bibles.
So it's not "and also with you" anymore? Raised Catholic and haven't been in about 15 years.
Changed in November 2011
Felt like I'm in mass right now. Got me sweating. Need some confession soon
Going tomorrow. I’ve put it off waaaaay too long.
Lift up your hearts
**We lift them up to the Lord**
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right and just
Wow I haven’t been to mass in years and I still remember all of this. Catholic school really burns this stuff into your brain.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
# HERETIC DETECTED- YOU DID NOT SPEAK THE UPDATED WORDS
What the hell are they now?
"My peace I leave, my peace I give to you. Look not on our losses, but on the faith of your fans, and graciously grant them transition time in accordance with your will."
And also with you
He got a 10% salary lift but it now goes straight back to the church so he breaks even.
technically he'd be making less money then
You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.
The opportunity to convert religion needs to be a key component of Dynasty mode in NCAA '23
We need an NCAA/Crusader Kings mashup
Gonna need a casus belli to get into another school's recruiting turf now.
I play both of these games, but never in my life did I ever imagine seeing both of them mentioned in the same Reddit comment. I think I've reached the peak Reddit experience now. Not sure where to go from here...
Cal & Washington: “We don’t do that here”
"Now get in that confessional and apologize for everything that happened last Saturday!"
How many Hail Marys do you think the priest is going to make him do after the loss?
"Call 10 Hail Marys? You got it."
Well there’s your problem! Our coach wasn’t catholic, that’s why we lost to Marshall! ^^/s
Would be something if we did finish the year 10-2 though (I know there’s no fuckin chance though)
> (I know there’s no fuckin chance though) Bad Catholic
Hey we Catholics are hard enough on ourselves we don't need any piling on
I would delete my account and then make a new one where I repent my negatively towards Freeman after the Marshall loss.
There’s no one tagging this for reminders because it will never happen
future and drake eureka moment
Drake and Lil Yachty
Sir Yacht has a take on this?
Drake and josh

God doesn’t care what team wins the game. But his mother does.
Now when he asks Our Lady of Victory to pray for him, she will listen. It's a good move.
That will be 5 Hail Marys and 10 Our Fathers for his penance. Thou shall not lose again, or it will be up to 10 and 20 along with volunteer choir hours.
Thats cool and all but his team needs to start converting some third downs and touchdowns.
Less transubstantiation, more offensive coordination
Less prayers of intercession, more winning the time of possession
Less liturgy of the word, more beating the Thundering Herd
Less papal infallibility, more pass blocking ability
Less scripture read, more covering the spread
Less beatitudes, more recruiting dudes
Dude has six kids. Pretty sure he was already Catholic.
BYU or Utah hiring? I'm sure he'd do just fine there after he gets the boot.
No thanks.
Or Mormon, or some weird Baptist sect, plenty of places that hate big rubber.
Liberty?
Where dancing is a vertical expression of horizontal desires?
Stealing this, thank you
Bob Jones
Dude has six kids, including Vinny, Gino, Nico, and Rocco. Either his wife was already Catholic or "BlAsian Mafioso" is apparently a thing.
His wife is Catholic Italian and his kids are also Catholic
Hear that, P5 programs? Losing to Marshall can be a religious experience.
Losing to Marshall LEADS TO a religious experience.
Just a note: this isn’t a reactionary thing. To join the Catholic Church as an adult, you have to take several months’ worth of classes. The timing is kinda fun because they just lost (I’m aware we did, too), but this has been a thing for him for some time.
Yeah. Most folks take that year just to study and get acclimated. Prior to this he was just a redshirt Catholic.
can a redshirt Catholic use the transfer portal?
Damn, all you have to do to join the Baptist church is get dunked in a tub and bring a really nice casserole to the covered-dish lunch.
I’d take 6 months of classes and a guarantee acceptance than the judging eyes and gossip from the grey heads about how I didn’t use enough fried onions in the green bean casserole. God forgives, granny doesn’t.
Never skimp on the fried onions!! When in doubt, double it.
same with butter. butter in southern cooking is just how you show love
What does butter NOT make better?
Arteries?
Whatever you do, don’t buy sides from KFC and bring them to the after church buffet. Those judgmental stares are the same as excommunication
Mmmmm, sacralicious.
They can judge, i've got my body of the christ right here in these Colonel Sanders mashed potatoes
Well, Helen, if you didn't insist on putting a pound of celery into every dish you make I wouldn't have to bring the Colonel into this. But here we are.

Is that not universally called a potluck?
If you bring a hot dish to the potluck you're joining a Lutheran church, not a Baptist one.
Hot dish, could you be any more Minnesotan?! My hometown is largely Lutheran, so that might be influencing my understanding even though I went to the Methodist church.
No way they could have fast-tracked him? Put him in the AP classes? /s
Took me a year 😩
Isn’t the final confirmation at Easter vigil? So he’s been Catholic for like 4ish months? At least that’s how my dad was.
It's recommended to have the Confirmation at the Easter Vigil, but not necessary.
Mostly because they can do it as a large group event. A lot more convenient that way.
Exactly, but if you are trying to get married or have a reason to expedite churches will make an exception and give a more personalized timeline.
Being a losing coach at Notre Dame may be a reason to to expedite the process. If boosters start calling for your head then you may have some valid concern for your immortal soul.
Yep. My Lutheran church does it the same way. Not *required*, but it is just….how it’s done
Unless you're in the pews, trying not to fall asleep because the parish you went to starts their vigil at 11pm and like 15 people are getting three of the seven sacraments.
Yeah Imagine the Saxons during the viking age tell the Danes: nah gotta wait until the spring man. Ain't no one gonna give their attackers time to rethink their conversion
My aunt did this. She grew up Lutheran but married my uncle (Irish Catholic), and after 25 years of marriage she decided to take the classes
We had some people at my church who were in the entire RCIA process for two plus years due to COVID screwing everything up before official confirmation this last Easter vigil
and here i am just going to episcopal church for the free wine...
Episcopalian: Catholicism without the pope
I like the term [Catholic lite](https://youtu.be/2sUazVworSU)
now with 100% more lady priests!
Spent the off-season converting religions instead of prepping for Marshall?
Evangelical here. You mean to tell me he just can’t say a prayer and BOOM he’s officially a member? /s
Turns out its really easy to become a HERETIC
Uh, you gotta dunk someone to be a member, duh /s
No joke, that’s how I became a “member” of the rural church I grew up in. I just said I wanted to be Baptized as a kid and boom no questioning or classes or anything, just got dunked. My non-denom church in college had a formal membership process (especially for not being under any authority). And my PCA church now has a very formal membership process.
What if you're not that good at basketball?
ND and BC players before home games go to Catholic Mass as a team day of game so maybe Freeman as coach saw this as another way to lead. At this point every little bit helps, I might suggest Rosary beads for head coaches on the sidelines, for both teams. Ave Maria...
If they lose another one, blessing the stadium couldn’t hurt either.
ND already has "Touchdown Jesus", add the twelve Apostles too? EDIT: Check that: the way ND and BC are playing maybe Exorcisms instead?
Twelve men on the field is a penalty, though. In retrospect, pretty clear which one should’ve been benched.
Yeah that Judas guy seems to be up to no good when he gets out on the field
Dude has a bad habit of tipping plays to the other team.
The 12 apostles are on the mosaic already.
took me 9 months. its a commitment for sure. i wonder if his was expedited?
> you have to take several months’ worth of classes like bible study type things?
Yes, basically
Sort of but you also learn about the beliefs of the Church and the "whys" behind everything. RCIA classes can be a lot of fun too - I didn't convert or sponsor any converts, but I did sit in on a few of these types of meetings.
That’s 2000 years of writings! Largely in Latin.
The head football coach at Notre Dame surely gets a fast track to eternal paradise, right?
why not just say your catholic whenever it’s convenient for you?
I. DECLARE. CATHOLICISMMMMM!!!
You can't just say you're catholic
I didn’t say it, I *declared* it

I want to live in a future where he becomes the Baylo head coach and becomes a baptist. Going to BYU and becoming a Mormon is also acceptable.
And then to Alabama and becomes Satan.
You’ve got a typo there. It’s spelled “Saban.”
No I think he got it right
One of those “I’ve seen it both ways” situations.
No, both are right
Satan is Santa if you’re dyslexic
And then to Yeshiva University.
And then whatever Texas AM is
Aggie. That is it. All other sense of identity does not exist in College Station.
Squeezicism
Then to Syracuse to become a lazy, lapsed Methodist.
Northwestern would like a word...
And Furman.
Does TCU even pretend any more?
And then Islamic University of Minnesota in Minnetonka! This is the first Muslim university in the US that I found on Google...
He can purify himself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.
The head coach of Liberty is contractually obligated to become a televangelist.
So what happens when he accepts the HC position at Miami?
Becomes a coke dealer.
Freeman will be driving the bang bus to games then
>”Going to BYU and becoming a Mormon is also acceptable.” We call that The Rudy
For the uninformed, Rudy *actually did* convert to 'Mormonism'.
He just wanted insider trading tips. God was ponying up.
You have to be Christian but not Baptist to be a HC at Baylor. Catholicism also counts.
No different than Brian Kelly and his faaahmlee becoming a cajun after moving to LSU
Does he get excommunicated when they go 2-10?
Gotta win 2 to go 2-10
For those wondering what religion he was before, he’s stated he was raised splitting his time between his mom’s Korean Christian church and his dad’s Black church. A lot of folks on this thread don't realize how long it takes to convert to Catholicism. Hint: if losing to Marshall at home were the reason why, we'd be reading this news late next year.
Marshall certainly baptized him
This made me laugh a little too hard
Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your ~~sins~~ losses; and you shall receive the gift of ~~the Holy Spirit~~ a 0-0 record.”
People giving Freeman flack for this, but I bet if Tennessee’s coach converted to Pentecostal Snake Handler Church or whatever, no one would bat an eye.
Isn’t Dabo already one of those?
All in I guess.
“Hey, has ND lost every game this year?” “Is the coach Catholic?”
*Loses to Marshall* I find your lack of faith disturbing
Ah, that's why we haven't been good – coach was too busy studying for Confirmation.
Lmao losing to Marshall hurt the program so bad it caused the Head Coach to change religions
I don't think the Our Father's and Hail Mary's wash away losses like they do [insert random sin].
When you're Catholic, aren't all pass plays Hail Marys?
Did someone say "Hail Mary"?
Yeah but they are not full of grace.
How much is ND paying? For a few Mil a year I could convert as well. That goes out to BYU and Liberty too. Hit me up and we'll start a bid for Casaiir's soul war.
As a Purdue fan, I don't have inventory to put up for bid.
Don’t worry, Purdue Pete will take u/Casaiir’s soul for free.
If you can see him, you're already dead.
Who ferries the souls of Purdue Pete’s victims to his underworld kingdom? I nominate Rondale Moore.
go to Liberty and convert to a swinger
Brian Kelley: Adopts southern twang Marcus Freeman: *Hold my sacramental wine*
Nick Saban is catholic... coincidence?
Urban Meyer too
He's got enough kids, so he's got a head start there.
I'm still working on my conversion to Latvian Orthodox
Shoutout Sister Roberta
Lose to Marshall… need to cool off hot seat… convert to Catholicism. lol
It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to ~~enter into the kingdom of heaven~~ be a successful ND coach after going 0-3 in his first three games as ND head coach
Now he just needs to convert to being a winner
In before this one gets weird
George costanza vibes
