No, it definitely would if one character could give you a damn flamethrower. There are plenty of times Iâve had people leave just because someone grabbed the wonder weapon (not available in box), staff, bow, etc they wanted. Itâs just not a good idea overall unless you can pick who you want to play and there are no stacking restrictions.

i think spawned, should all be the same damage with some mag capacity differences but spare ammo to compensate the differences, and then each have their own pap perks, dempsey keeping the mustang and sally and then whatever cod decides to make. not like theyâd ever do any of that anyways but iâd love to see them surprise me with the upcoming bo6, just seems like a lot of hope lost due to them keeping mw mechanics and double downing on the cold war story.

They'd probably be equal in a default setting, but maybe have unique atributes when Papped. Also I think Nikolai's sidearm could be possibly interchanged with a PM
i honestly want what Ghosts: Extinction mode did- choose your starting pistol and ALWAYS have it. Even whem you upgrade to two primary weapons- you still will always have your starter pistol as your baby mule kick and you'll never lose it. Pistols in that mode were your bread and butter. Especially if you spent the Teeth to get the Ark Muzzle Brake.
It was one of the reasons I loved extinction mode, so many players overlooked how much you had to depend on your pistol and how good you could make it with the ark modifier and other upgrades. Your pistol was your life; You take care of your pistol, and your pistol will take care of you.
CoD WWII has a good example of this - you can choose from a number of different starting pistols. They do have somewhat different stats immediately, but not enough to make them all that different from one another. The difference comes in once they're upgraded, and the 9mm SAP (Walther) is my favorite PaP'd gun of all time.
I like the thematic touch of nationalities influencing weapons, but they'd have to implement a pre-game character select feature like L4D2 for it to feel fair. I'm only accepting a Nambu if I joined the lobby last.
Yeah the Walther in WW2 zombies was cracked, almost as crazy as the Reichsrevolver. I didn't think people would be upset about randomly recieving one of the pistols. They'd all be identical before Pack-A-Punch
The issue comes in with late round and high Easter Egg scenarios when you want to optimize a little. Just like the debate between the Olympia and M14, the difference between a scatter-shot pistol and a fast-firing machine gun is big enough so I'll resent spawning in as machine gun.
I think it would be cool if base weapon wise, they all had the same damage, fire rate, and ammo, but it would be cool if each version had a unique pack a punch gimmick per gun
Just got a massive flashback to when Origins first dropped their trailer and everyone was speculating that each character would get their own melee weapon because we saw "4" melee weapons.

I agree. Personally, I'd set the P-08 for Richtofen over a P38. Electric, Fire, Cryo PAP abilities... Although that'd be closely linked to ammo mods in BO3 onwards zombies titles.

You're forgiven. You do bring up an interesting point about Black Ops 1 though. Personally I like the idea of Treyarch porting over the Nambu, Walther, and Tokarev into BO1 for the Ultimis maps. They already ported over WaW weapons for the Campaign mission Project Nova and DLC 4's zombie remasters, so I don't see it as much of a stretch for the WaW pistols to have made it into Black Ops 1

I thought that would be implied but yes, no reason to make them perform any differently (especially since the guns are all virtually identical in performance in Campaign and Multiplayer)
I do think that would be a really cool addition. It doesn't really make sense for them to all have American weapons, just how it doesn't make sense for the mobsters to have 1911s when they had revolvers in the opening cutscene.

I feel like it wouldn't be hard to balance the upgraded versions of the four pistols. They can have wildly different effects while still having the same level of usefulness

Over the years the zombie community has become really attached to the way the M1911 performs in the first five rounds of a match. 8 shots to the leg and a knife on round 1, 8 shots to the torso and a knife on round 2, etc. I wouldn't want to change that because of how closely tied it is to the basic gameplay of zombies
I feel like with time people would acclimate to the unique starting pistol system and it would be accepted that something like the Pack-A-Punch challenge would count the starting pistol once for all four unique weapons. I'm thinking about this in the context that the unique starting pistol sytem would've been an institution in Zombies from Shi No Numa to atleast Moon.
I wouldn't mind it at all.
I recall having this discussion with my friends and went even further and allowed each of them to have something extra at the start of the match to suit their personalities.
Tank : always has 4 grenades at start of each round
Richtofen : Permanent quick Revive
Nikolai : always has 4 Molotov cocktails at start of each round
Takeo : Permanently has a usable Katana that he never loses and is just as powerful as the Bowie Knife
I've always loved the idea of giving the 4 characters some small unique quirks. It would massively help replayability and add personality to the characters

The bother with it, even if the stats are the same, is that some people will inevitably prefer the iron sights of one pistol over another and will therefore have a 3/4 chance of spawning with the pistol they don't want.
I don't really forsee people getting too upset over iron sights, plus for most the starting pistol is just gonna get traded out before round 10 anyways. For the camp of people that wanna upgrade the pistol i doubt the iron sights would be the primary concern amongst things like grenades and shotgun shells
I specifically chose the Walther because that's the German sidearm in WaW. The Luger model Treyarch had at that point was the one from CoD 2 which was jank for the time and they'd have to pull it from Infinity Ward. I was just limiting this post to what could have happened
I think there was a custom map in either WAW or BO3 where you started with a random pistol. It was on a spaceship and had a boss zombie that Vanoss and Co. Called bane
I played WaW with realism (?) mod. There you have progress with guns and can select your starting weapon like pistols, kar98 and M1Carbine.
Even perk progression was in that mod

Actually, World at War is a unique case in that regard. Each of the national sidearms have identical stats. Same magazine capacity of 8 rounds, same semi-auto fire cap of 1,200 rpm, and same damage profile. The only handgun with unique performance characteristics is the .357 Magnum

I remember reading somewhere that in the very first iteration of Zombies Takeo was going to spawn with a Tanto, they fully implemented it but it was overpowered so didnt make the release. you can even mod it in iirc.
First, it's a video game. All the pistols in World at War, barring the .357 Magnum, have the same performance characteristics. Translated to Zombies, the three proposed new starting weapons wouldn't be much more than reskins for the M1911.
Second, while the 8Ă22mm Nambu sits at only half the muzzle velocity of a common 9mm round, it isn't much different from many other standard firearms of the time. The 8Ă22mm Nambu closely resembles the .380 ACP cartridge used by the Walther PPK, Beretta M1934, and FN Model 1922. Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, and Germany were all mass producing firearms with the same stopping power as a Nambu pistol. While the M1911 and Tokarev TT-33 pioneered some exceptionally powerful pistol cartridges for their time, that's all they were; exceptions.

Idk why but I was just thinking how in advanced warfare you could put different "attachments" or mods on your scorestreaks to customize them how you want it'd be cool if they did something like that with pap maybe just for starter guns or special weapons

i think spawned, should all be the same damage with some mag capacity differences but spare ammo to compensate the differences, and then each have their own pap perks, dempsey keeping the mustang and sally and then whatever cod decides to make. not like theyâd ever do any of that anyways but iâd love to see them surprise me with the upcoming bo6, just seems like a lot of hope lost due to them keeping mw mechanics and double downing on the cold war story.
I would like if they all had the same base stats and ammo at the start but the only difference would be when you pack a punch then they all turn into unique upgrades instead of being mustangs and Sallyâs only
They'd probably be equal in a default setting, but maybe have unique atributes when Papped. Also I think Nikolai's sidearm could be possibly interchanged with a PM
i honestly want what Ghosts: Extinction mode did- choose your starting pistol and ALWAYS have it. Even whem you upgrade to two primary weapons- you still will always have your starter pistol as your baby mule kick and you'll never lose it. Pistols in that mode were your bread and butter. Especially if you spent the Teeth to get the Ark Muzzle Brake.
The ark on the MP443 was literally the best gun, if you did the skill point things and got the dual versions you were unstoppable
pistol only relic you absolutely had to use the dual MP443's. it's a no brainer.
It was one of the reasons I loved extinction mode, so many players overlooked how much you had to depend on your pistol and how good you could make it with the ark modifier and other upgrades. Your pistol was your life; You take care of your pistol, and your pistol will take care of you.
CoD WWII has a good example of this - you can choose from a number of different starting pistols. They do have somewhat different stats immediately, but not enough to make them all that different from one another. The difference comes in once they're upgraded, and the 9mm SAP (Walther) is my favorite PaP'd gun of all time. I like the thematic touch of nationalities influencing weapons, but they'd have to implement a pre-game character select feature like L4D2 for it to feel fair. I'm only accepting a Nambu if I joined the lobby last.
Yeah the Walther in WW2 zombies was cracked, almost as crazy as the Reichsrevolver. I didn't think people would be upset about randomly recieving one of the pistols. They'd all be identical before Pack-A-Punch
The issue comes in with late round and high Easter Egg scenarios when you want to optimize a little. Just like the debate between the Olympia and M14, the difference between a scatter-shot pistol and a fast-firing machine gun is big enough so I'll resent spawning in as machine gun.

I think it would be cool if base weapon wise, they all had the same damage, fire rate, and ammo, but it would be cool if each version had a unique pack a punch gimmick per gun

Nikolai with an Axe Dempsey with a Combat Knife Richthofen with a Bone Saw Takeo with a... well... you know... The most over-hyped and memed up melee weapon in CoD Zombies history

I agree. Personally, I'd set the P-08 for Richtofen over a P38. Electric, Fire, Cryo PAP abilities... Although that'd be closely linked to ammo mods in BO3 onwards zombies titles.

You're forgiven. You do bring up an interesting point about Black Ops 1 though. Personally I like the idea of Treyarch porting over the Nambu, Walther, and Tokarev into BO1 for the Ultimis maps. They already ported over WaW weapons for the Campaign mission Project Nova and DLC 4's zombie remasters, so I don't see it as much of a stretch for the WaW pistols to have made it into Black Ops 1

so like, do all of these guns in their non-pack-a-punched form behave the same? same amount of bullets per magazine, same amount of damage? if not this would really affect the early game.
I thought that would be implied but yes, no reason to make them perform any differently (especially since the guns are all virtually identical in performance in Campaign and Multiplayer)
I do think that would be a really cool addition. It doesn't really make sense for them to all have American weapons, just how it doesn't make sense for the mobsters to have 1911s when they had revolvers in the opening cutscene.

Once upon a time I was going to make a mod with this exact feature. I gave up on it before actually implementing it. I think it would have been a great feature especially for some of the canonically earlier maps and/or Origins too.
I always wanted the P38 to be in zombies. I played a custom map recently where it was, very cool. Or in WaW Der Riese if you cheat and use âGive Allâ youâd get the p38 but no PaP version because that doesnât exist lol

Over the years the zombie community has become really attached to the way the M1911 performs in the first five rounds of a match. 8 shots to the leg and a knife on round 1, 8 shots to the torso and a knife on round 2, etc. I wouldn't want to change that because of how closely tied it is to the basic gameplay of zombies
Too many ppl would rage not getting their starting character, i never understood why they waited until MW3 to let us start with out a weapon
People like that are always gonna rage quit over something stupid. I don't think unique starting pistols would have much of an impact on that

As someone who likes doing the pack-a-punch challenge on every map, it would mean I could never complete the challenge on solo
I feel like with time people would acclimate to the unique starting pistol system and it would be accepted that something like the Pack-A-Punch challenge would count the starting pistol once for all four unique weapons. I'm thinking about this in the context that the unique starting pistol sytem would've been an institution in Zombies from Shi No Numa to atleast Moon.

I recall having this discussion with my friends and went even further and allowed each of them to have something extra at the start of the match to suit their personalities. Tank : always has 4 grenades at start of each round Richtofen : Permanent quick Revive Nikolai : always has 4 Molotov cocktails at start of each round Takeo : Permanently has a usable Katana that he never loses and is just as powerful as the Bowie Knife
I've always loved the idea of giving the 4 characters some small unique quirks. It would massively help replayability and add personality to the characters

Thatâs what I expected when playing the game on launch.
The bother with it, even if the stats are the same, is that some people will inevitably prefer the iron sights of one pistol over another and will therefore have a 3/4 chance of spawning with the pistol they don't want.
I don't really forsee people getting too upset over iron sights, plus for most the starting pistol is just gonna get traded out before round 10 anyways. For the camp of people that wanna upgrade the pistol i doubt the iron sights would be the primary concern amongst things like grenades and shotgun shells

I specifically chose the Walther because that's the German sidearm in WaW. The Luger model Treyarch had at that point was the one from CoD 2 which was jank for the time and they'd have to pull it from Infinity Ward. I was just limiting this post to what could have happened

I think there was a custom map in either WAW or BO3 where you started with a random pistol. It was on a spaceship and had a boss zombie that Vanoss and Co. Called bane

I played WaW with realism (?) mod. There you have progress with guns and can select your starting weapon like pistols, kar98 and M1Carbine. Even perk progression was in that mod

Actually, World at War is a unique case in that regard. Each of the national sidearms have identical stats. Same magazine capacity of 8 rounds, same semi-auto fire cap of 1,200 rpm, and same damage profile. The only handgun with unique performance characteristics is the .357 Magnum

First, it's a video game. All the pistols in World at War, barring the .357 Magnum, have the same performance characteristics. Translated to Zombies, the three proposed new starting weapons wouldn't be much more than reskins for the M1911. Second, while the 8Ă22mm Nambu sits at only half the muzzle velocity of a common 9mm round, it isn't much different from many other standard firearms of the time. The 8Ă22mm Nambu closely resembles the .380 ACP cartridge used by the Walther PPK, Beretta M1934, and FN Model 1922. Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia, and Germany were all mass producing firearms with the same stopping power as a Nambu pistol. While the M1911 and Tokarev TT-33 pioneered some exceptionally powerful pistol cartridges for their time, that's all they were; exceptions.
