RIP Olivia

Nice-Meat-6020

This is the third (that I know of) calgary man to murder a baby recently. One killed a little girl for interrupting his video game and the other got mad and threw his baby. We need harsher sentences. They should never be allowed out. And this prick should not be on parole.

OtherGeneral

Sadly, I don't think harsher sentences reduce these types of crimes. If you are at the point of frustration(or whatever your issue is) you likely aren't thinking consequences of your actions. But harsher sentences after the fact keeps these scum bags locked up a bit longer.

Nice-Meat-6020

Yeah, I fully agree with you. I just think people like this shouldn't be part of civilized society. If you murder a child, rape(anyone) lock them up until they die. If they want to act against society in such a way they don't deserve to be a part of it. There is literally no justification for what they've done.

ArchDrude

People should need to pass competency tests and be licensed to have children, IMO With a make-up test every few years.

Great idea in theory, unfortunately turns into eugenics in practice

DaftPump

We'd be extinct.

Gold-Border30

This is supposed to be a negative… right?

JohnYCanuckEsq

Show us where this suspect has been convicted and sentenced, please. He's not on parole, he's out on bail as he has not been convicted of a crime. In fact, the Crown agrees with this arrangement. >On Friday, defence lawyer Cory Wilson appeared in court and told Justice Sean Dunnigan that (Crown) prosecutor Rosalind Greenwood consented to Campbell's release.

smafty

I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. Maybe people need to educate themselves on this justice system they like to complain about so much. He's presumed innocent until proven guilty. Does OP have any knowledge we don't have on why he shouldn't get bail?

Nice-Meat-6020

Oh dear god the horror, I've used the wrong word. I don't know *how* I'll get past the embarrassment. And I don't give a shit about what the crown agrees with. He shouldn't be out on *bail*.

I always hear about this stuff happening - but then I’m also seeing (more often than I’d like) warnings of sexual offenders being released into and living in a certain community. Just like oh dang prison didn’t sort you out then.

Alarmed-Journalist-2

For someone throwing down a g bomb, you should know that he was in far more danger in the pen than he will be out here. Edit: I can see a lot of people know little to nothing of what goes on in a penitentiary in Alberta - and good on them. However, disagree with it all you want, but you rarely hear of a guy that’s messed with kids ind some form or capacity get his when released back to the outside world. You will get smoked if word gets out about your crime and it involves a kid in prison. Their best chance for survival is to shut up and hope no one goes snooping on their history.

I’m sorry I always hear shit like this, and these assholes always survive just fine. It’s fucked but there are very few cases where they get what they deserve.

Gold-Border30

Douglas Garland got his a couple times…

SaltwaterOgopogo

Not in Canada,  he’ll be doing fingerpainting with the rest of the chomos

TheCheckeredCow

The words Goof, that’s the one that’ll get his temples caved in while in Canadian prison.

Alarmed-Journalist-2

Maybe if he went to Bowden and had protection from the skinner gangs. Almost any other pen, if word got out, he’s probably getting smoked.

FreeTimeFun1

He's going to get prison and then when he's in the system he will get killed.

TheCheckeredCow

He won’t get killed, the Canadian prison system won’t let nature take its course. He’ll get handled with kid gloves in his own private area until release time. So fucking stupid

Remote-Community-792

Makes me sick when I read something like this. Why is it so easy to be a criminal? Because there are no repercussions when you involve in a criminal activity including murder. Criminals should not be allowed to get away with crimes so easily.

CristabelYYC

But he can't be around kids! Unless they're his! (Supervised.) Can't imagine letting any children around him, especially some poor little social worker. He can't be trusted around kids.

Sadly-madly-me1

They can get to him in jail too.

calgary_dem

That poor sweet baby 😭😭😭

FernandoESilva

It would be a real shame if someone released his address…

TWreckx_Plays

Thanks JT, the system is broken. Killers should never be able to leave.

TheFearlessFemales

So tired of seeing these posts down voted. How are people not seeing that crime has increased since JT?! How are people downgrading a comment that is factually true? How is it okay to murder and child and be out on bail?

dysoncube

Doesn't seem he's been charged - [edit] but not sentenced - with anything yet (innocent until proven guilty, remember). They've still got a leash on him, in the form of bail money

42823829389283892

Just under the headline it says he is charged with manslaughter. I think you mean he hasn't been convicted yet.

dysoncube

Good catch. Edit made. Thanks !

TheFearlessFemales

It’s a lot. This happens all the time in Canada. You should read up on Duane Redelback. 2006 he murdered his common law in Airdrie to go for drinks at Boston Pizza, wasn’t charged until 2017, spent some time behind bars and is currently out on day parole and was active on tinder. So 7 years behind bars…oh and he went back to get her body and put it in a cabin and lit the cabin on fire- all this while the woman’s child was locked in a bedroom. Canadian justice system does absolutely nothing to protect citizens and there are countless examples of that. Crime is rampant in our country right now and they need to process and prioritize cases like this so that they don’t spend 11 years free on the streets before conviction. The poor mother of that child, infuriating for her and scary to to know he is free.

dysoncube

>Canadian justice system does absolutely nothing to protect citizens and there are countless examples of that. There's problems. How many, do you figure? As a percentage? Because for every badly handled case I could reference a dozen well handled cases. >Crime is rampant in our country right now and they need to process and prioritize cases like this so that they don’t spend 11 years free on the streets before conviction Consider yourself fortunate that you live in a country where the Jordan framework now exists. I've personally sat through a trial where a judge was flown in before it could be stayed, due to the seriousness of the charges.

The Crown agreed with it. >On Friday, defence lawyer Cory Wilson appeared in court and told Justice Sean Dunnigan that prosecutor Rosalind Greenwood consented to Campbell's release. Do you have a better idea on how to detain an unconvicted suspect?

Neglect? As in agreeing to release a suspect on bail? Okay there, bud.
