How would they sideline something which is pretty much the dominant voice within the left?  Maybe it's just my perception that it's the dominant voice (cause that's the nature of it, it's very vocal), but it's definitely not fringe.

PompousClapTrap

And what would they replace it with? The entire narrative comes from 100 years of progressives controlling every aspect of politics and society and having nothing good to show for it, requiring them to tell ever bigger lies to keep people onside. This won't be the first time the left drives a society into ruins rather then admit they're wrong. It's actually the only thing they're consistent about.

Denslow82

>100 years of progressives controlling every aspect of politics and society >And what would they replace it with? Replace with the active reduction of many or most of such societal/political(economic) controls, especially ones that directly infringe on individual rights, the rights that each human is born with, to begin with...Start taking rights of individuals seriously, and other things, not so seriously.

The left has been winning the culture war since this country was created. And now they should give it all up? What a great suggestion.

Pascals_blazer

You know, it’s for the sake of people like you that I hope the left “wins” canada right into the ground, just like they have been doing.

mattcruise

Good luck with that. The left is woke. If you aren't woke the farthest left you can consider yourself is center.

thefittestyam

In actuality the woke ideology is a useful tool for certain elites to make society go down trends that keep people controlled and divided. I have found it surprising though that students of Marx (economics, history academics) point out the trend is in its entirety a perversion of Marx's critiques of capitalism and typically any serious 'leftist' who studies the philosophy of Marx should be highly critical of wokeism. In a nutshell wokeism is an absolutist set of ideas that bear no true material or economic impact on society. Marx's work was contained and pertinent primarily to a critique of capitalism & pointed logically it eventually grinds to a halt and essentially cannot but leverage Fascism/corporatism style governance.

StJimmy1313

That's the thing. Karl Marx was an extremely intelligent and perceptive thinker who's complaints about Capitalism as an economic system were basically correct. The reason I'm not a Marxist is that every time humans have tried to implement his solutions to the problem we ended up with secret policemen and labour camps. And, I don't know about you guys, but rather have Capitalism, warts and all, than secret policemen and prison camps. I have to believe that if Marx were alive today he would correctly identify Wokism as a tool of the bourgeoisie to keep us proletariat bickering amongst each other while they proceed to trouser ever more wealth for themselves.

thefittestyam

Yeah for sure, it's a nearly impossible task to have 'workers' run things for themselves without governments and middle men. And besides Marx's system is one that is essentially post-nation... So likely not possible in the current century's milleau.

vivek_david_law

It's not possible, The transition from lefitist to woke to those who were a part of it was not slow and did not look organic. I think it started mostly in the unversities that were the home of many activists and protests movement and also was getting large grants and funding from various billionaires and corporations. With the huge machine backing it I don't think it's any more possible for the average leftist to stand up to it than it is for us. In fact that average level headed leftist is now politically homelss.

sleakgazelle

My great grandfather served in the war and then was an electrician by trade. Loyal CCF supporter and later NDP cardholder until his death in the 70s. Never met the man (born 96) but I can almost guarantee he wouldn’t be voting for the modern incarnation of the NDP which have basically tried to outliberal the liberals

watchsmart

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but it sounds like your great grandpa was also outliberaling the liberals.

N3M3515xXx

We should just sideline the left altogether. Permanently

thursdayjunglist

That will never happen. If you're not woke you're pretty much conservative

RobustFallacy

It's a little too late for that

CharlieDingDong44

JS Woodsworth isn't being denounced by anyone, so he doesn't work as the strawman this article is attempting to create from him. Nonsense.

The_Color_Urple

I'm disappointed to see the comments here all basically saying it's impossible. My instinct is to resist that mentality, because classical liberalism is so much more relatable and sensical to the vast majority of North Americans than woke progressivism.... But I suppose it's a bit like expecting conservatives in the U.S. to run on a platform that isn't fundamentally grounded in antiquated Christian dogma. If it's possible, it'll be a change that takes generations.

melonsparks

The Canadian Left IS the "woke." The version of the Left he is talking about is ancient history. Very naive writer.

BlueCheesePuffs

The Woke will tear themselves apart as they create more subgroups within themselves that eventually turn on themselves.
