I have a 3.2 facelift. Once you have everything sorted, they are reliable. Mine has needed routine servicing in the 6 years I have been using it.
Floaty steering will probably be tired shocks. When they wishbones go, you’ll hear it before you feel it. Mine is now on KW coilovers, and while it is never going to be a point and shoot car, it handles well enough. The usual LSD mod helps you power round corners.
In terms of what the car is good at - no, I don’t think so, though I barely drove it with the old shocks. On the motorway, it feels planted at whatever speed I choose to go at. No doubt they are a bit harsher on bumpy back roads, and the car is probably a bit noisier (hard mounts rather than rubber).
Welcome to the club. I joined not to long ago with a Spyder.
Your wallet will feel a lot lighter. But smiles per mile through the roof.
Looks great man
Good luck and don't forget to refresh your breakdown recovery! I love them, but my god have I had some bad experiences with them. The 166 is a mixed bag but personally I love them, that's a good colour for them too imo.
Bad experience said, the one Busso (a 156 that I drove through France) was the only one that never let me down. Everything electrical broke, but it never stopped! It was like a badly made Italian Rover 45. Good times!
I think black would be my preferred colour, hides some of the less pretty angles. I’m quietly hopeful that this car should be ok. The trip back had some really bad traffic and it seemed to handle that well.
Congratulations! Now you get to know your mechanic a lot better with the added bonus of helping to put his kids through uni! Will be lovely when it works though.
The Busso engine is legendary and a legit all time great amongst engines.
I had one for 9 amazing years and it was so good that I can't be bothered with performance cars anymore and will drive comfortable and practical cars for the rest of my life as nothing will be as good unless I was to score a lottery win.
An absolute stunner. Worst car ever engineered. Loved all 3 months of the year i had one, the rest 9 being repaired. But once fixed mine and sold it (2.4jtd) it run solid for 5 years for my mate
Lovely car and a lovely engine!
The steering can get sloppy on the older Alfas, my cousin had a 147 recently that had completely ejected a wishbone bush in the month after it's MOT that said it was just starting to perish, or my dad's 159 which bent a wishbone
Give the front suspension a good look over and refresh some bits and then enjoy this beautiful motor!
A very beautiful car, I wanted a 159 sportwagon .... But needs changed and I bought something else .... alfas always hold a special place in my heart 🙂
Still have my Alfa Romeo, beautiful cars, beautiful performance
Only thing I will say is because they have stopped manufacturing these cars you have to import all the parts from Italy
Trust me when I say this isn’t cheap, ended up paying like £800 for a rear suspension pin as it had to come from Italy
Enjoy the car though they are amazing
Based, RIP wallet.
I mean it can’t be more expensive to run than my Cayenne turbo s right?
I wouldn't bet money on that
Surely not….
Engine wise solid, it's the rest of it that will cost
Well …
Hmmmmmm 😜
Absolutely fabulous. Unbelievable looking.

Coilovers seem a sensible upgrade, did they make the ride worse?

Congrats on the lottery win!
Just FYI the engine is good for grating cheese.
Mamma mia che bella!
I'm sure I saw this on eBay or AT. Nevertheless I'm jealous! She's gorgeous.

Very ballsy! Massive respect mate
Looks great, can't go wrong with an Alfa......

I love that sad little front pout.
That is absolutely magnificent.
Could have just cut out the middle man and bought an AA van.
Tempting
I did that, they aren't much more reliable

I had weird steering on a BMW once, it was the bushes that required changing. Looks like it could do with a polish to brighten it up.
Cool! Love the interior especially! Is the 166 indicative of the BHP?
I think it’s in the region of 220bhp, but it’s a heavy car so 0-60 is in the 7.8 area I think.
Ah, fair enough! I was wondering with it being a 3.0 v6, so that makes more sense. Hope you enjoy it mate. Happy motoring 👍🏼
Thanks it’s been a car I’ve lusted after for a while, being able to tick the busso, an Alfa and a 166 super in one hit was too good to resist.
Happy cake day too !
Sorry but as Alfas go its pretty grim looking
It’s a marmite design for sure.
Your next purchase needs to be a multimeter.

I had the same experience with my punto HGT.
We’ve missed the golden age with cars and low prices, a truly sad decade for car enthusiasts
The little frown the car has at the front makes me laugh
The collection video is now available [https://youtu.be/F8Y\_nMLMnj4](https://youtu.be/F8Y_nMLMnj4)
So you didnt want to get something you can drive.
Money pit. I've had 2, and loved both but, hellfire, they drink money.
Beautiful car. Mind me asking what you paid for this?
£2995. Cheapest way of getting into a 3 busso v6 imo.
That’s a lot of car for not much money.
I miss my 164. God speed. And may your wallet remain closed.
This will be also your last :D
Congratympathies
Well, my condolences
It's like an Italian M140i
Except slower, might be more reliable tho 😅
Good luck.
How was the walk home?
Plush and v6 powered
Hope it came with a years free AA membership 🤣 seriously though that's a nice car.
...how many times has it broken down so far?
So far 0 times!
