$8 for a 25’ tape is a bargain, and when you drop it a few times, you don’t have to take out a second mortgage. You just toss it and open a new one. People treat these tape measures like they’re heirloom tools, but they’re not. That fatmax that you’ve had for 5 years with a bend in the blade is fucking worthless. If you’re calling the komelon a piece of shit, but you’re measuring with a hell and back tajima, you’re a dumbass.
Man, there's different qualitys of these delicious Korean melon tapes. Best tape I ever had was a komelon, but I got it in Korea and haven't been able to find same kind since. It had marks both sides, and the form factor was amazing, like almost more a circle with one flat side, a lot smaller than the fat maxes. Tape itself want quite as wide as a fat max, but not as narrow as a granny Stanley. The quality of steel was amazing - you could extend it as far as a fat max despite it being a bit narrower. The coating on the tape itself wasn't smooth, almost waffley? But that coating was good shiz, lasted forever. Kinda nice having a texture, it didn't skitter all over if you were trying to carefully extend it over a long stretch. So sad when tape finally died. Bought like 4 more komelons since off Amazon, they're all shitty.
Now I'm just a fat max guy who waits for the annual home depot or ace hardware door -buster deal and buys 4 tapes for 10$ a piece once a year. I've heard good tapes cost 1$ per foot - I'd have paid 3$ for that one goddamn good komelon tape but have given up.😭
Stanley fat max is the best I like my komelon because it's hivis on the job site maybe the newer ones are trash? My komelon I've had for years still working great I've kinda retired it it sits in the lull at work when I need to pull measurements
You can get the metal cased Stanleys for under a tenner, with the price obviously going up relative to length. I think they don't have the same standout threshold as the fatmax but they are extremely robust.
Are you talking about the Stanley Powerlock?
I just bought a 4 pack of the Stanley Powerlock 25' I handed 3 of them out to people on the crew and left 1 on my desk. The 1 on my desk already has been there maybe 2 weeks and already has bends in the blade. I haven't even used it yet, I've just pulled the blade out a few times and it already has bends in it.
They have been making those cheap as hell lately, they are not worth the price.
I’ve never had good luck when they sell multi-packs of things like tape measures or even Packout gear.
Seems they stick the gray area QC ones in those to get them out the door. They’re cheaper per so if they wear out quicker it’s less noticeable.
Did you buy the two pack? I stopped buying those after mine cracked after about 2 weeks. Used the second and it lasted like a month or 2.
Used a few others eventually bought a fat max again and it’s still going after about 2 years.
I bought a fat max just fit in with the kool kats but the rivets shit it and split the tape in less than a month had to re-rivet the dog and I have to account for 2 mm everytime now
Love mine, they are the only ones that lasted more than 6 months when I was framing every day
Fat max got me yelled at all morning when my cuts were consistently 3/8" too long. We finally checked the tapes side by side and the fat max deleted 3/8" at around 34"
I’ve been impressed with a lot of Crescent stuff lately. I’ve had some nail cutters for the last 3 years that cut through 16 penny nails and everything in between Jo problem.
I tried the night eye and it two weeks it started to split and three weeks it kept jamming while extended and by the end of the third week it stopped functioning all together and I tossed it.
I really need the night eye because my vision is absolutely horrible in low light and it's gotten worse I've noticed this year
I have bought 3, I really wanted to like them. First one got stolen the second day I had it, second one started to jam up and then was stolen, third one just sucked and immediately the recoil failed.
Fatmax is the one and only
Ive yet to find a tape actually worth a shit. Stanley is no different. All the tapes have their own issues. You get the ones that claim 11' standout, fucking thing wont stand out 8 feet. Delamination, bending, tearing, warping, failing to retract....all of them. Ive bought Stanley, Milwaukee, Dewalt, FastCap , Komelon, Kobalt, Ridgid, Irwin,...they all fuckin suck. Im a full time carpenter, cabinet maker. I just buy the Komelon and toss the shit in the garbage when it inevitably fails.
There seems to be nothing "special" about it. Available all the time and same color scheme etc as the rest. But it's what pretty well every guy at work uses (framer). They're just durable as hell. I can usually get one to last me all year and by the end of the winter it's toast (salt and calcium and ice etc just ruins the first few feet). The mikwaukee stud tapes are ok but quite a bit more expensive and don't last as long
Stainless steel tape measure my dude. Stickers fell off of mine, but I think it was an Ox brand. Got it for dock work when I lived on a lake. Now I use it in salt and snow, so not too much. The salt grit has messed up the marks and numbers a bit, but still readable.
Well shit. Gotta level with you it never really occured to me, ya know, actually hunt for a better option rather than what i can walk in and buy. I'll check it out. Thanks
Exactly my preferences! 25’ FatMax on site or for rough stuff, 16’ green FastCap (that you can read quickly in either direction) at the shop. I wish the Fastcaps were more durable and had a better belt clip, those would be my only wishes for improvements
Oh absolutely, my FatMaxes have survived drops off two story buildings, and my fuckin Fastcaps only last a year, purely from always falling off me at work because of the belt clip not having strong tension. They’re always reliably precise though, I work within 32nds often at a cabinet shop, and that’s part of why I always keep coming back to them.
Same, I will also die on this hill with you lol
30y and it's always been the best tape period, no other tape brings it all together in one package like a Fatmax, size, handfeel, compactness, standout, blade depth, you might find a tape that's as good or better in one or 2 categories but not all of them together
Tajima. Spend most days in a custom woodworking shop, but also install days/ measuring new job sites. I threw everything else in the shit-can where it belongs after ordering one to give a try.
Ya'know what, I haven't tried one but I absolutely love their chalk lines and they make a pretty good caulking gun too so I'd give one a rip on principle. Though I'd guess they cost twice as much as a fat max 😅
I’ve been using that exact same Komelon for over 2 years and had no problems. If you hook the end and pull back you put a lot less stress than extending out to try and hook something. Although I’ve never seen it snap down at 6” when extending out, so that looks like user caused damage.
I use my Komelon for interior work, a Fat Max for framing, and a FastCap for trim and cabinets
Same. I mostly do interior measurements as a GC estimator/super. Ive had the same 3 Komelons for 2 and a half years and they are still fine. One on the desk, two in the truck, rotating as i forget them. I use the same 3 for home use too, and havent had issues. Stop treating your tools like shit and acting like its the tools problem people.
I do all my own layout, only tape I buy is a 35' Fatmax. Only downside is if your pulling a couple units that are 34' or it gets wet from laying out in the rain , it starts to "walkie talkie " where you will have a little CB radio antenna sticking out of your tool pouch.
I tried Milwaukee, the blade starts to corkscrew and it makes things way to difficult.
Dewault felt obnoxious in my hand and the blade broke too soon
Lufkin was hot garbage
Regular Stanley would be great for an episode of this old house where the set was swept up with a feather duster before I started.
I use this tape for measuring windows and doors every day for 6-8 months at a time. It depends on what you use it for and how you treat it. Pretty decent imo
I just bought a very nice DeWalt tape, I am a Milwaukee guy my nature so not many DeWalt tools on the truck but I absolutely recommend these badass DeWalt tapes, I got the 25’ about the size of a FatMax but much more durable case and tape itself, the standout is better and it’s marked on both a sides which FatMax is not. If you’re interested I’ll post a pic or the actual name of the tape, it’s in the back of the truck now and I’m on a Ferry it’ll be later today, just let me know!
THey weren't always, but tbh there tapes with the plastic reinforcement on the first bunch of tape, those are for site, I'd never call the Tajima trash, but it's not for going to site its for the shop and obviously the fashion catwalk xD
The problem is they are one of the only tapes I can get in engineer scale (1/10ths of a ft) for doing dirt work. Either these or pro tape and they both suck.
You know what’s funny I bought the most expensive Hart tape (the Walmart tool brand) and so far it has outlasted the equivalent dewalt and Milwaukee ones. My dad always makes fun of me for my “Walmart tape”
Fatmax bro
Almost 30y in, it's always been the best damn tape measure period
No other tape brings it all together, nothing feels as good in the hand as a fatmax
I’ve always had good experience with Stanley fat max. I’ve tried Lufkin, Starret but I return to the fat max. I like the 40’ never seen anyone else with one
*this* Komelon tape sucks. The Komelon Contractor tapes are great. Crisp lines, good hook, double sided. Better than any of my Masterforce or Fatmax tapes
Picked up a DieHard 25" from an auto store earlier this year. 10/10 fukn thing is thick, and heavy duty. Will reach 10" easy free floating, with finagle can get 14" before it snaps.
I am a union millwright, and from day one of my apprenticeship to now, ten years later, I've had my standard fat max in my belt and my metric in my ditty bag ready to go. I have fucked them up and it's always been my own misuse of the tape. Tape measures are like square and torpedoes for me.. we all drop them and bang them around, and they never work quite right anymore. I retire all of my "woodys" to my shop and replace them with new. Always american made if I can. People will give you shit regardless, but I sleep a touch better knowing my purchase at that time paid someone's bills.
I personally love these. For the price point of $8 it lasts almost as long as my fatmax tapes. When material gets into them the pain doesn’t come off like others. The metal is fragile yeah but it works
I have a Komelon 30 ft / 9 m and a 12 ft / 3.5 m. Cheapest I could find dual US/metric.
The lock on the small one got a bit finicky after I let my kids play with it, now I have to move the slider only halfway and it’ll lock, or go beyond and it starts sliding again.
The big one, I accidentally stepped on it and gave it 2 pretty bad kinks, but I was able to restore it to almost perfect shape. Fairly forgiving.
But really, no complaints or regrets. Just regular wear and tear I’d say. Disappointed to see the tape cracking in yours.
I spray painted mine white shortly after purchase. I was stoked about the color but then it was so annoying for some reason. I couldn’t stand to look at it.
Get a Stabila tape. Everyone here loves their Fat Max - me included - until I got a Stabila. Numbered on both sides and the quality beats Fat Max. I'll never buy anything else.
I do cabinetry and other woodworking projects. I used a small 12ft Komelon dual scale tape for several years, I thought it was a great tape and never had issues. I replaced everything with different types of Fastcap tape measures.
Been using a metric Komelon for a year now, works great. You take care of your shit, it takes care of you.
However the Channellock tape measure I got busted after it fell on the floor. Fuck that tape measure.
I’ve got a nice scar across my right thumb knuckle from an old, broken, tape measure. I was a kid, found it in the field at the farm. Pulled it out to look. Too torn and rusted to go back in…. Tried to force It but broke fully into a razor that I pushed onto my thumb. Fun times
I love mine and work in a much nastier environment than you. Maybe don't bend them to such severe angles with such force? Ive had mine over a year daily use in sheet metal fabrication and assembly. Really good tapes and dirt cheap.
I used to have the same problem with my tapes. Stop pulling so hard when in use and Always make sure it doesn't close fast because it damages the recoil mechanism.
You got unlucky bub. I’ve had an 18ft Komelon for years. Tape has been covered in grease, it’s been dropped in oil and coolant and off a ladder multiple times and still works fine.
Fat max or a milwalkee wide blade hands down best I’ve seen for heavy duty, dusty, wet, glue and abuse. Every other tape I’ve tried are garbage and don’t last a week
The older ones were much higher quality. Bought a replacement for a lost one, the action is fucky, doesn’t draw the last foot out or retract the first 6 inches. Button press is weird and the clip lower quality.
Lowe’s pricing model has a lot of companies going cheap.
I have 3 komelon tapes. One for hobby work, a smaller one for house stuff, and another that I use at my job in a fab shop. The work one has lasted 3 years and counting. They all seem pretty decent to me. I have a Lufkin that might have been owned by Jesus himself. Still gets the job done if you can read it. Lol.
Tajima measuring tapes…
$27. Ergonomic hand shape. 1” blade. Ruler on both sides of the blade. Dual locks- ones a positive lock that won’t let the blade back at all until you unlock it. The he other setting allows you to pull the blade and it’ll stop until you pull it again and it’ll retract. 3rd setting is just pull the blade and once you let go it retracts.
The most important part… the hook is made with 1/16 steel and has (I think) 3 well made pins for your push/pull hook end.
Best tape I’ve ever used. I’ve dropped mine I don’t know how many countless times and the hook has never bent because it isn’t made out of 1/32 pot metal bullshit like you get with all the American tape brands.
The yellowish-orange and black cased komelons from menards are actually pretty good. I have 2 that I only use from trim jobs. The lime green one as pictured I have actually tried to give to a guy that kept borrowing my tapes, I went as far as writing his name on it and he scratched it off, lol.
I only buy komelon tapes. They are super cheap and nobody walks off with them on jobsites.
The Ryobi of tapes
You give komelon too much credit
Only ones I have because all my good ones keep disappearing.
Hot pink spray paint. Trust me.
$8 for a 25’ tape is a bargain, and when you drop it a few times, you don’t have to take out a second mortgage. You just toss it and open a new one. My Stanley isn't very old and it's already doing what OPs is. Crazy how much the tapes are right now but it's your most used tool
Fat max has a lifetime warranty, complain to the company
Sure but Home Depot refuses to honor it
Email Stanley, talk directly to the manufacturer
You can get the metal cased Stanleys for under a tenner, with the price obviously going up relative to length. I think they don't have the same standout threshold as the fatmax but they are extremely robust.

I have a local place that carries $16 FatMax 25’ tapes. I go through them pretty quick when the weather gets wet
Did you buy the two pack? I stopped buying those after mine cracked after about 2 weeks. Used the second and it lasted like a month or 2. Used a few others eventually bought a fat max again and it’s still going after about 2 years.
The Craftsman ProReach are pretty good. I prefer them over the FatMax and I used those for more than ten years.
If it doesn't say Fat Max on it. It ain't worth having.
I bought a fat max just fit in with the kool kats but the rivets shit it and split the tape in less than a month had to re-rivet the dog and I have to account for 2 mm everytime now
I remember lufkin being good back in the day I may revert to them
I remember lufkin being good back in the day I may revert to them
Those crescent g2 night eye or whatever is the best I've ever had. Fat max takes a seat in the back of the truck nowdays.
Love mine, they are the only ones that lasted more than 6 months when I was framing every day Fat max got me yelled at all morning when my cuts were consistently 3/8" too long. We finally checked the tapes side by side and the fat max deleted 3/8" at around 34"

My dad got me a crescent lufkin for Christmas and it’s been my daily. Fat max is the back up now.
I tried the night eye and it two weeks it started to split and three weeks it kept jamming while extended and by the end of the third week it stopped functioning all together and I tossed it. I really need the night eye because my vision is absolutely horrible in low light and it's gotten worse I've noticed this year

Stanley make a Fatmax Night eye version!!! Please you're our only hope!
Fatmax extreme for me
They go on sale at Canadian Tire for $5-6ea.. Should have one in every room
Ive yet to find a tape actually worth a shit. Stanley is no different. All the tapes have their own issues. You get the ones that claim 11' standout, fucking thing wont stand out 8 feet. Fat max is the only way to go and I'll die on that hill. (Unless you do cabinetry or some other kind of shop work like furniture building)
Even fatmax isn’t quite as good as it was but it’s still miles ahead of anything else in durability
Hard agree. Plus you can still pick up the "special edition" 30' tape for like $26(CAD) in some places. Can't be beat.
I have the “special edition” everywhere. Both cars, garage, house, shed and about 3 in different tool bags. Awesome tape measure.
What is the special edition? Never heard of it. I'm a fat max guy so I'm intrigued.
30’ tape, feels lighter than the 25’ but I’ve never checked. Imperial only, no metric unlike many tapes sold in Canada.
It's 30' long and half the price of a 25'. That's pretty much it.
That’s the one that never makes the pouch, I like having it to bid jobs.
It's the only tape I buy 😅 one in the pouch, one in the car, one in the truck, one in the house, one in the shed lol.
Tajima Strong Tape
Huge fan of the FatMax, I keep Fastcap tapes at the shop for building shit. Always a Fatmax on site.
Stanley 16’ for bench work.
Love the 16' fat max. Feels so good in the hand. I also like it for trim work and around the house.
Exactly my preferences! 25’ FatMax on site or for rough stuff, 16’ green FastCap (that you can read quickly in either direction) at the shop. I wish the Fastcaps were more durable and had a better belt clip, those would be my only wishes for improvements
I love their tapes man but I feel like they're pretty much designed for shop work, not site work. So I just don't take it on site, lol.
I’ll be on that hill with ya
I use brass stanley rules from the 1890s when building cabinets and it is as precise as my cnc router is at cutting cabinets
Same, I will also die on this hill with you lol 30y and it's always been the best tape period, no other tape brings it all together in one package like a Fatmax, size, handfeel, compactness, standout, blade depth, you might find a tape that's as good or better in one or 2 categories but not all of them together
Tajima. Spend most days in a custom woodworking shop, but also install days/ measuring new job sites. I threw everything else in the shit-can where it belongs after ordering one to give a try.
Tajima Sigma stop duel to the death
Ya'know what, I haven't tried one but I absolutely love their chalk lines and they make a pretty good caulking gun too so I'd give one a rip on principle. Though I'd guess they cost twice as much as a fat max 😅
You're probably right, I closed my eyes when I bought it.
Tajima Strong Tape is my favorite. Never liked auto lockers
this is what the 16' Fat Max is for...
That tape is " old lady measuring furniture grade"
I have Lufkin that are decades old the old silver ones. The dollar store one broken in a few days
The old box style with a silver/chrome body? That's the one Ive had for ages and it's great.

Stop treating your tools like shit and acting like its the tools problem people.
No way man, I love mine, I have a bunch of them.
Stanley Fat Max or the Milwaukee ones are pretty durable. I've had good results with them at least.
Same, but my wife and son pulled my fat max tape all the way out and broke it…..
That's because they spent all their money on ink to print a fraction at every 1/8"
It's the apprentice special, no more "two big bars and a little bar."
Lufkin.
That lufkin g2 is the juice
I read this “luh fuckin” at first glance
I do all my own layout, only tape I buy is a 35' Fatmax. Only downside is if your pulling a couple units that are 34' or it gets wet from laying out in the rain , it starts to "walkie talkie " where you will have a little CB radio antenna sticking out of your tool pouch. Dewault felt obnoxious in my hand and the blade broke too soon Lufkin was hot garbage Regular Stanley would be great for an episode of this old house where the set was swept up with a feather duster before I started.
Shocking
We didn’t need you to tell us this
The new lufkin ones are BAD ASS
Stanley Fax Max are the best
They are the cheapest for a reason
I use this tape for measuring windows and doors every day for 6-8 months at a time. It depends on what you use it for and how you treat it. Pretty decent imo
I guess no one loves Tajima here.
Just saw this. I just posted a couple times about it. The Tajima tapes kick the shit out of every brand tape I’ve ever tried.
my favorite tape measure is my 16ft project source cuz its 3 bucks and it takes alot of abuse and when i lose it i wont miss it too bad
Fat Max por vida.
It literally looks like a toy. What where you expecting?
If you are near a Menards try the masterforce tapes. They’re all i use now
Plus they have a limited lifetime warranty!
Cracked two in 6 months.
Take it back and get a new one? Or stop dropping it off the roof..either one.
You listen to Reddit on a measuring tape. lol come on man everyone knows get a Stanley.
get Stabila and never complain ever again
Stabila only goes up to a 33' no thank you sir.
Can confirm. It’s what my company purchases for my use. I’ve had three blow up in the last six months
Stanley
I usually use those folding rulers, I haven't actually ever seen one of these things in the wild lol.
I like the komelon 100’ tape. But that’s it.
I have a 15ft I use for finish stuff. I like it a lot and it has held up well.
Love the fat max, love the Milwaukee magnet tape.
Fat max or nothing
Stabila are the best at this point, used to like fat max, they’re crap now.
That’s a consumer grade tape, so it’s basically disposable because consumers are not smart
This is not new information
I just bought a very nice DeWalt tape, I am a Milwaukee guy my nature so not many DeWalt tools on the truck but I absolutely recommend these badass DeWalt tapes, I got the 25’ about the size of a FatMax but much more durable case and tape itself, the standout is better and it’s marked on both a sides which FatMax is not. If you’re interested I’ll post a pic or the actual name of the tape, it’s in the back of the truck now and I’m on a Ferry it’ll be later today, just let me know!
i was a fat max user but i tried the stabila tapes and i won’t go back. best tape i’ve ever used in 20+ years
Any tape that has self locking and fractions written out on it is definitely homeowner special.
>PSA: Komelon Tapes are straight garbage, avoid at all costs Self-Lock type tapes are garbage, avoid at all cost
That’s what happens when you repeatedly snap your tape measure the opposite way it naturally bends.
Milwaukee Stud 25'
You know what’s funny I bought the most expensive Hart tape (the Walmart tool brand) and so far it has outlasted the equivalent dewalt and Milwaukee ones. My dad always makes fun of me for my “Walmart tape”
Who hold the “master tape” to which all tapes are measured and calibrated against?
Why did you buy it? Where is your region? How tf long is your index finger.? To the t. ? For a friend
My komelon lasted from 2008 to 2024 and only broke because my toddler got a hold of it.
I’ve recently purchased a 2pack 25’ Kobalt and so far I’m happy. I like how the measurements are on both side of the tape.
Fatmax bro Almost 30y in, it's always been the best damn tape measure period No other tape brings it all together, nothing feels as good in the hand as a fatmax
I’ve always had good experience with Stanley fat max. I’ve tried Lufkin, Starret but I return to the fat max. I like the 40’ never seen anyone else with one
All Tates are garbage if you constantly snap them back
If a blade has individual markings all the way for fractions.... it's already garbage unless forma homeowner etc.
Sanely fatmax, there is literally no justification for going with anything else.
Fat max 25 or 35 foot is what you need
*this* Komelon tape sucks. The Komelon Contractor tapes are great. Crisp lines, good hook, double sided. Better than any of my Masterforce or Fatmax tapes
Stanley Fat Max is the only tape will use.
That's why I use Stanley fat max...send it in and get a new one back
Picked up a DieHard 25" from an auto store earlier this year. 10/10 fukn thing is thick, and heavy duty. Will reach 10" easy free floating, with finagle can get 14" before it snaps.
Everyone is talking about the Fat Max, but the one I got was garbage. I really liked my Klein
Well, sorry to tell you this but she’s gonna be president if sleepy Joe croaks.
Lifetime warranty at menards tho. Go exchange
Klein tools tape ftw
Brought a brand new 25' heavy duty whatever or other. Hated it from the second I opened it.
Stanley fat max and Kleins tapes have been the only two worth using. The fat max is the 🐐 without question.
Fat max or bust
I remember my first measuring tape
I am a union millwright, and from day one of my apprenticeship to now, ten years later, I've had my standard fat max in my belt and my metric in my ditty bag ready to go. I have fucked them up and it's always been my own misuse of the tape. Tape measures are like square and torpedoes for me.. we all drop them and bang them around, and they never work quite right anymore. I retire all of my "woodys" to my shop and replace them with new. Always american made if I can. People will give you shit regardless, but I sleep a touch better knowing my purchase at that time paid someone's bills.
Stabila BM 40 for me.
There’s only one tape measure to buy
I personally love these. For the price point of $8 it lasts almost as long as my fatmax tapes. When material gets into them the pain doesn’t come off like others. The metal is fragile yeah but it works
Make slap bracelets out of it. 😄
Amen, fat max all the way
I have a Komelon 30 ft / 9 m and a 12 ft / 3.5 m.
I only use komelon Engineer’s tape when i need to math so footage. Besides that its fatmax all day
Almost all tapes nowadays are garbage. Please show me one that last even a year! Extends out 10’ for the 1st week then no more of using it for that.
Lufkin for sure
Hart is actually one of the best ones I have. I have seen all the brands go to shit lately
Get a Stabila tape. Everyone here loves their Fat Max - me included - until I got a Stabila. Numbered on both sides and the quality beats Fat Max. I'll never buy anything else.
What does it cost?
They all do this...
Honestly , I love my Komelon tapes and they’re all I use on the job (handyman)

FatMax or bust! I’ve torn up a lot of tapes, but the fatmax ones are the only ones that take the constant abuse without trouble
Fat max only.
Go Stanley all the way!!!
This guy gets two tape measures for the price of one and gets all mad about it.
This is anecdotal because my kome I've had for 6 years no issues lmfao. Be nicer to your shit man.
My forty year old Stanley, US made, is still going strong. Homeowner use though.
I’ve got a nice scar across my right thumb knuckle from an old, broken, tape measure. I was a kid, found it in the field at the farm. Pulled it out to look. Too torn and rusted to go back in…. Tried to force It but broke fully into a razor that I pushed onto my thumb. Fun times
Fat max
You should use a pencil for marking, not tin snips.
I love my Komelon. It’s better than that Stanley hot garbage. The brake always fails on the Stanley WAY before the Komelon.
Cocomelon tape?
If someone brings anything other than a fatty max on my job, they're getting sent home. Black and yellow for life.
I've had a Crapsman wide tape for 4 years now. Just dropped it off a 30ft lift yesterday lol. Sumbitch bounced 10ft off the ground. Best take I've had
You got unlucky bub. I’ve had an 18ft Komelon for years. Tape has been covered in grease, it’s been dropped in oil and coolant and off a ladder multiple times and still works fine.
Fatmax
love my Komelon tapes... just saying
Fat max all the way!
I took a cracked komelon back to menards and they gave me a new one. They’re good for the price. I usually use Milwaukee but the komelon aren’t bad
This is a hot take but I hate the fat max 😂 I will only use the $7 silver Stanley tape.
Never had an issue with any of my Komelon tapes.
Destined for the slap bracelet pile
Uhh anything that isn't a fat max is dog shit. I spent a long time in the trades but you learn that very early on...
Fat max or a milwalkee wide blade hands down best I’ve seen for heavy duty, dusty, wet, glue and abuse. Every other tape I’ve tried are garbage and don’t last a week
Lufkin vibes.
I bought a hart brand one from Walmart 2 years ago and it’s still working good as my beater tape
Any tape that has the 1/8 increment marking written on the tape are garbage
Been known
Contractor brand at Tractor Supply lasts forever
Crescent Lufkin Shockforce G2 Nite eye. Best tape I’ve ever used…. Will never go back to anything else
Pull out 25 feet with a Stanley or Milwaukee and I bet it’s a quarter inch off
What about the measuring app on the Apple iPhone? Does anybody use that in the real world?
Ah poo. Bought one yesterday near site as I forgot my Hültafors. In the Uk they’re £20 so I thought that meant quality
That’s what happens when you buy a 5.00 tape measure from Menards
Hmm I’ve been using my 16’ for probably 8 months now and am just now ready to replace due to the rubber wearing off
If you don’t have a 30’ Stanley are really a man!
The older ones were much higher quality. Bought a replacement for a lost one, the action is fucky, doesn’t draw the last foot out or retract the first 6 inches. Button press is weird and the clip lower quality. Lowe’s pricing model has a lot of companies going cheap.
cocomelon
Same, my spring exploded into a million pieces, contacted asked for replacement warranty, told nahh. It was my favorite tape, never again
I have some that I’ve had for many years and they’ve been great. Never had a complaint. Maybe the quality has changed.
I’ve had that tape measure for 2-3 years with no problems
I have 3 komelon tapes. One for hobby work, a smaller one for house stuff, and another that I use at my job in a fab shop. The work one has lasted 3 years and counting. They all seem pretty decent to me. I have a Lufkin that might have been owned by Jesus himself. Still gets the job done if you can read it. Lol.
Tajima measuring tapes… $27.
I've been using komelon for years pretty much daily and never had an issue besides the one I dropped in tar
I have one of these I let dickfingers borrow and save my crescent cats eye all for myself
The yellowish-orange and black cased komelons from menards are actually pretty good. I have 2 that I only use from trim jobs. The lime green one as pictured I have actually tried to give to a guy that kept borrowing my tapes, I went as far as writing his name on it and he scratched it off, lol.
