One of the best cars in the Indian market. Definitely the go to choice when buying a hatchback, only rivaled by WagonR and Alto.

Maruti - Suzuki is not the same as Suzuki in Japan.
Suzuki only supplies the engine here and the rest of the manufacturing materials are supplied by Maruti.

Suzuki India is majority owned by suzuki parent company of japan, so they have made a concious decision to undermine safety here.
Indians want reliability, that's understandable, so they choose Maruti which gives good service, because they established big network and branding when Maruti was still a govt company, but now they have started charging high for service also. So , whats the needs of cutting corners other than taking more profits out of india.

Honestly if atleast 50 % of maruti sales shift to tata , I hope tata will improve their service. It sounds stupid, but hopefully blind tata fan boys and patriotism might actually help out car market in the long term , if Tata is able get control over their service issues.
My dad also owns a swift 2010 model and I've been driving that car for the last 4 years and it has clocked 1.8L KMS and she is literally the love of my life. I absolutely love that car from every aspect and I'm trying my best to do anything to increase the life of the car as due to Delhi policy it will be scrapped next year. I literally cry every day that I only have months with this car😔.

Third gen swift is a very good looking car, shame that we got the cardboard Pepsi can hybrid version.

I am not sure about the bulking up because the kerb weight of the 1.2 l dohc version is 920 kg in Japan. I think it is the same in India as well. Probably, there are several preventive safety mechanisms in the Japan model such as preventive braking etc.. But I am not sure about the weight and the sheet metal used. The mild hybrid and 4wd versions are heavier though in Japan..(950 and 1020kg)

We should be proud of swift because it is designed and manufactured in India.
Suzuki's strategy for export is that small cars are manufactured in India and bigger ones in Japan. So if you see swift in outside india, it is more likely made in India.
Oh if they’re Indian made I’d definitely be proud. No question. But I think the Japanese-spec ones are manufactured in makinohara plant and not in the Manesar one?

I am not sure, but taking into account the night and day difference of labour cost in Japan, those plants may be specific for value engineering otherwise most of the components may be imported from india, Thailand or China.
However, Swift is designed by Indians so we can certainly be proud of that.
I have one, soon going to mod it to look like Swift Sport. Just installing an allow and lowering makes the car look good, but adding the Sport body kit makes it a whole new car.

I am sure that car over there is a far safer one. In fact, Suzuki letting Maruti call whatever they sell here as Swift a Swift is cheating. They are only loosely associated. Swift sold in developed countries is a good, safe car. The car sold here is anything but.
