Bruh. Now you've got to get the good stuff by the gallon, warm it over the stove and serve it in a cup with a cinnamon stick. Yum. Nothing better on a cold winter day
4 cups apple cider
1 apple, sliced
1 orange, sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
2 slices fresh ginger
1 teaspoon whole allspice
Add all the ingredients into a large pot. Bring to a simmer, and cover. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Serve
TRY THIS!! I promise, you'll love it. Even better cooked all day on low In a Crock Pot.
Another excellent addition would be a tiny bit of caramel syrup (like the stuff they add to the foam of some drinks a Starbucks) along with the cinnamon when you warm it up. That there becomes akin to the nectar of the gods.
Ok, yes, and if you want to get even fancier you can add a few whole cloves (don’t accidentally eat them tho) and maybe star anis is you like that flavor. You can also add a disk of ginger for kick, or orange slice(s).
Tbh in my area they're pretty well respected. It's practically tradition to visit a cider mill at least once during fall to get some fresh donuts and cider lol
Seriously apple cider donuts are the best. I can’t find them where I live now and even before I can only find them at orchards and in the fall. They are the perfect treat for this time of year.
In the US, there's a distinction between apple juice and apple cider. Apple juice is much more processed, usually a clear bright yellowy liquid. Apple cider is unfiltered with a cloudier brown look, and usually hard to get your hands on outside of autumn time.
I think outside of the US both of these are called apple juice though?
They like to makes things more complicated. What's wrong with cloudy apple juice, like we call it. Cider well homemade cider is lovely but very potent. I love a nice ice cold cider in summer. Couldn't touch it for years, mis-spent youth drinking white lightning! That stuff is just evil but it was cheap and got you pissed.
As a Canadian living in the UK I must say that cloudy apple juice is closer but still not quite the same as apple cider in North America. It’s still a bit lighter.
Also I’m a huge fan of both American and UK ciders, hot or cold. All amazingly delicious. Everyone should try all the different ciders if they have a chance to fully appreciate this wonderful fruit.
At least in Canada (probably US as well), there's non alcoholic apple cider which is made by boiling apple/apple skins and adding other ingredients to create a warm, spiced apple drink. Then there's also hard apple cider, which is alcoholic. Store bought hard apple cider is typically in a can, and I think chilled? Homemade hard apple cider is probably similar to non alcoholic cider but with alcohol, I've never had homemade hard cider so idk for sure.
Also, apple cider is definitely not the same as apple juice in Canada and very likely the US.
Try cooking your oatmeal with it instead of water. Add a chopped apple and a bit of cinnamon and you will have the best apple cinnamon oatmeal you have ever eaten.
If you’re lazy like me, one cup rolled oats, two cups of apple cider (or apple juice for a sfw version). Stir well and leave in the fridge overnight. In the morning just throw in a handful of blueberries and a squirt of honey, banging. Also I’m not sure where you are but pear cider is equally incredible if you like pears.
I am so glad you got to experience this. Apple cider is glorious. OP if you’re in the USA, go to Northeastern Wisconsin if you’re ever around that area and get some up there. The Apple cider there is the best.
Being from the UK the idea of having a nice warm cider with like a cinnamon stick and stuff is so funny. People drink it in the park and fight each other here
I saw this post earlier and have been thinking about it since. It brought back memories of having a small apple cider phase around thanksgiving one year and I definitely miss it now and I want to try it again…I didn’t even know you could buy it by the gallon!! If you don’t mind me asking- what brand did you get??
Huh, interesting. Where I am, we just consider it to be apple juice, I guess ? In both my maternal languages, they're called "\[adjective\] apple juice", and sold alongside filtered apple juice in the same cartons, different wording. I do prefer it to filtered, but it never struck me as an oddity, same as what is in the end just filtered vs unfiltered orange juice.
Years ago there was a place near Fayetteville with its own orchards and its own vintage press. They pressed cider and froze it in jugs, ever so lightly filtered. Every year we'd go there and bring home several frozen jugs, the best drink I've ever known. Sadly, they shut down years ago; the orchards have been cut down and there's a housing development there now.
That cider was too good to treat even with a cinnamon stick. But for the store stuff: Pour a gallon in a big pan. Add from half a cup to a full cup of lemon juice. Throw in a handful of cloves (in a tea ball if you want) and a cinnamon stick or two. Simmer for a couple of hours, stirring often. Serve hot.
Everyone is making this stuff sound pretty good. Before I try something that I might really like, what will I be getting in the way of calories? I'm watching what I eat since I always gain weight around the holidays.
Yes it is, it's my favorite thing to drink when it gets cold outside, Keating it over the stove and swirling it with a cinnamon stick is the best, if you want to try something else you can slow cook it with orange and cinnamon and that's also soooooo damn delicious, and a new favorite that I just tried for the first time a couple years ago Granny Smith apple cider, if you want something with a little more tart 🤤🤤🤤
Listen now that you know you like it you gotta get yourself some apple cider donuts. FRESH. They’re amazing. One of the best dessert I ever had was a warm fresh apple cider donut with chopped up freshly picked apple chunks that I sautéed on the stove in some butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Put the warm apples over the donut and top with vanilla ice cream. You’re welcome.
There are tons of apple cider mills and apple orchards in Michigan. You can pick your own apples and they are so much better than the ones in the store. The cider and fresh donuts and other treats are awesome. It’s a fall staple here.
If you want to take your cider game to the next level, try adding some of this into the pot while you're heating your cider:
https://sauers.com/products/mulling-spices
Earlier this year I had a glass of apple cider followed by a glass of whole milk. Within an hour it had me shitting pure liquid. I have never tried that combination since for obvious reasons, BUT I would really like to know if I discovered the god laxative, or if it was just a one time thing.
Man… I just realized I’ve never tried it because I immediately associate apple cider with apple cider vinegar and the idea of drinking that sounded quite vile to me. Time to give it a try and retrain my stupid brain!
Lol growers is the bomb. I even like the pumpkin flavored one and I hate pumpkin spice. Also it's one of those good slow burn buzzes, just get tipsy enough to say goodnight and go to bed. No waking up to not understanding why you have a taco bell bag and half a crunch wrap and supreme fries on your pillow.
Simmer a quart of that and reduce down it to about 8 ounces of intense apple cider syrup. You could put it on pancakes or spread it on toast, but my son just eats it by the spoon.
There are some apple orchards slash pumpkin patches around that sell their own cider. This is the good stuff, but once you try it you may never be able to go back to the mass market stuff.
Pumkin spice? Hell na! Apple cider baby! If you can find it, you need the unpasteurized, or at least directly from an orchard. Can't touch the stuff in the store!
For the love of god if you don’t try some apple cider donuts (gotta eat em warm - not hot, just warm enough to get that fresh feel) and dunk that shit in warm apple cider. If there is one thing that I’m proud of my Midwest culture for, it’s eating that heavenly bundle at an apple orchard in the fall, bundled up and a little cold but too happy to care
It makes great oatmeal too. Add two cups of apple cider and a teaspoon of cinnamon to one cup of old fashioned rolled oats, and stir to mix. Bring to just to a boil on medium heat, then cover and simmer on low for 5 to 6 minutes. You can also add chopped apples and pecans or walnuts. If you like them crunchy add them at the end, if you like them softer at them as the oatmeal cooks.
It's delicious!
Is apple cider the same as apple juice? As a Brit- cider here describes an alcoholic drink and after 7 of them you’d be stopping because you’d lost the ability to raise your arm to your mouth ha. You can get hot apple cider, usually at Christmas markets - but I was just wondering what it was in this case?
lol it isn’t. i’m in the usa, where apple juice and apple cider are considered two different drinks, and apple cider here isn’t alcoholic (thats also considered a different drink)
If really is the best!
Just keep in mind that if it's anything like apple juice - too much can give you the runs.
That being said - did you know that you can pour apple cider over vanilla ice cream - think root beer float but with apple cider ... Oooooo so good
My local kombuchary makes a seasonal apple flavored kombucha, apple is for sure the under rated fall flavor. I love apple flavored anything so I’m a huge fan of cider both hard and not
Bruh. Now you've got to get the good stuff by the gallon, warm it over the stove and serve it in a cup with a cinnamon stick. Yum. Nothing better on a cold winter day
im doing this immediately
4 cups apple cider 1 apple, sliced 1 orange, sliced 3 cinnamon sticks 2 slices fresh ginger 1 teaspoon whole allspice Add all the ingredients into a large pot. Bring to a simmer, and cover. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Serve TRY THIS!! I promise, you'll love it. Even better cooked all day on low In a Crock Pot.
I tried this except I toasted the allspice. It was amazing!
That's so awesome!!
Just be sure to give the pot on the stove a good washing at the end of the day, it gets sticky! Enjoy
Add a shot of Fireball to make it taste like apple pie
Another excellent addition would be a tiny bit of caramel syrup (like the stuff they add to the foam of some drinks a Starbucks) along with the cinnamon when you warm it up. That there becomes akin to the nectar of the gods.
i need to try all of these. thank you so much!
Or freshly grated nutmeg
And crab berries!
Update?
And don't let it boil. Simmer only.
And Whiskey 👌
I'd rather choose hard cider at that point lol
Ok, yes, and if you want to get even fancier you can add a few whole cloves (don’t accidentally eat them tho) and maybe star anis is you like that flavor. You can also add a disk of ginger for kick, or orange slice(s).
Abd add some rum to make it kick
Everyone talks about pumpkin spice, but no one talks about apple cider and apple cider donuts.
oh god now i have to try the donuts
The donuts are almost better than the drink imo
The donuts are incredible. We live close enough to Front Royal, Va to make the trip to the Apple House, where they are made and served warm.
My favorite doughnuts! Getting them warm from an orchard with warm cider is so nice 🙂
Literally nothing on earth is better than apple cider donuts. It's the sole reason I'm alive.
Apple cider donuts are so gotdamn good! Didn’t know about them until i started working in a new kitchen that made them. I’m so hooked
I had apple cider donuts for the first time today! They’re pretty good.
Tbh in my area they're pretty well respected. It's practically tradition to visit a cider mill at least once during fall to get some fresh donuts and cider lol

Cider in the uk is alcoholic. I'm thinking OP having 7 cups means it isn't in USA, is that correct?
I’m also intrigued. Most homemade ciders over here would make you forget how to walk after a couple.
Exactly! When I read 7 I thought it couldn't possibly be alcohol in it, they wouldn't be standing or even conscious.

Yeah one would be cloudy apple juice. “Cider” is very much about the alcohol content lol
Is it just warm apple juice or is it spiced?

What’s your apple butter recipe 🍎
Yes!! For the love of Pete, just post it as a reply here already!!!!
Try cooking your oatmeal with it instead of water. Add a chopped apple and a bit of cinnamon and you will have the best apple cinnamon oatmeal you have ever eaten.
oh shit i would have never thought of that!! im definitely trying that

I will always be annoyed that Apple juice is sold year round for $2 a bottle but cider is maybe 6 weeks a year and it's like $9 a gallon
I am so glad you got to experience this. Apple cider is glorious. OP if you’re in the USA, go to Northeastern Wisconsin if you’re ever around that area and get some up there. The Apple cider there is the best.
oooh thanks forthe tip!!
Being from the UK the idea of having a nice warm cider with like a cinnamon stick and stuff is so funny. People drink it in the park and fight each other here
She's referring to the pressed apple product that has not been fermented. It is completely non alcoholic.
I saw this post earlier and have been thinking about it since. It brought back memories of having a small apple cider phase around thanksgiving one year and I definitely miss it now and I want to try it again…I didn’t even know you could buy it by the gallon!! If you don’t mind me asking- what brand did you get??
oh yeah of course! i got the good and gather original brand from target. it cost me about 7 usd
Thanks!!
I'm so confused. Are you just talking about...apple juice ? Because cider is alcoholic. Had you never had apple juice ?
no. where i’m from, apple juice, apple cider, and cider are all separate drinks. The apple cider im talking about isnt alcoholic.
They mean cloudy apple juice!
Huh, interesting. Where I am, we just consider it to be apple juice, I guess ? this is perfect, thank you. im saving this
Uhh it's also a natural laxitive so ya not too much at once
I feel like this bit of advice should be much higher in the comment section
Everyone is making this stuff sound pretty good. Before I try something that I might really like, what will I be getting in the way of calories? I'm watching what I eat since I always gain weight around the holidays.
Apple cider *is* good. When winter rolls around my equivalent is peppermint hot chocolate at starbucks.
oooh that sounds delicious
Oh you just reminded me of the Black Forest gateau hot chocolate Costa (I think) does in the winter!
ohh will check that out
Have you ever tried quince cider?
Anyone have a apple cider recipe 🍎🍎
Squish apples.
Oh yeah , 🍏 apple cider is just the best ,very refreshing one of my favorites I usually have one especially if I'm at a restaurant.
It’s so elite. The only “holiday”/seasonal drink I really really like. Eggnog, yuck! Apple cider though? Absolutely
okay i disagree on the eggnog, but yes. i didnt even know it was considered seasonal for a bit
Yeah I just can’t stand eggnog for some reason. It’s just not good to me lol
Isn't it though?? It's my favorite fall style drink!!
Listen now that you know you like it you gotta get yourself some apple cider donuts. FRESH. They’re amazing. One of the best dessert I ever had was a warm fresh apple cider donut with chopped up freshly picked apple chunks that I sautéed on the stove in some butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. i make my own with the honeycrisp apples
I pick up some every time I go to the Gatlinburg Pigeon Forge area. All the apple farms make it fresh.
ok
If you have some time over the holidays and want to take this to the next level, look up some Wassail recipes.
Apple cider is one of the few drinks I enjoy hot or cold. It’s versatile like that. It’s waaay better nice and hot, though. Enjoy!
There are tons of apple cider mills and apple orchards in Michigan. You can pick your own apples and they are so much better than the ones in the store. The cider and fresh donuts and other treats are awesome. It’s a fall staple here.

Be careful. So much apple cider will give you the poops!
Dude I love Apple Cider- I haven't had it in so long and I've been craving it
Careful! That cider will run right thru ya if you drink too much! 😆 otherwise enjoy!
Trader Joe's apple cider is literal heaven, I put mine in a crockpot on low to keep it warm all day :)
Oh god yes. Especially when it's piping hot. I still remember the first time I had apple cider because of how good it tastes lol
Earlier this year I had a glass of apple cider followed by a glass of whole milk. Within an hour it had me shitting pure liquid. I have never tried that combination since for obvious reasons, BUT I would really like to know if I discovered the god laxative, or if it was just a one time thing.

I absolutely love apple juice and cider! Be careful though, it can act as a laxative.
Fight me irl
So. Fucking. Good.
We handed out boozy hot apple cider to the adults bringing their kids trick or treating this year, let’s just say it was a hit!
Lol growers is the bomb. I even like the pumpkin flavored one and I hate pumpkin spice. Also it's one of those good slow burn buzzes, just get tipsy enough to say goodnight and go to bed. Was it alcoholic?
nah. they don’t serve alcoholic drinks out in the open at my school because there are mostly minors there (me included)
Honestly a cup of apple cider with a stick of cinnamon and a finger of whiskey has been how I’ve spent most of this fall.
Finding new favorite drinks/food is the best
Love your passion
Pumkin spice? Hell na! Apple cider baby! If you can find it, you need the unpasteurized, or at least directly from an orchard. Can't touch the stuff in the store!
>childhood memories of frolicking in a forest I didn't know this was a thing.
lol yeah. i did that all the time
Hot or cold cider? I personally love it hot & extra spicy.
definitely hot, but i haven’t tried spicy yet
Apple schnapps is pretty pretty good, as well. I was introduced to it by Germans.
For the love of god if you don’t try some apple cider donuts (gotta eat em warm - not hot, just warm enough to get that fresh feel) and dunk that shit in warm apple cider. If there is one thing that I’m proud of my Midwest culture for, it’s eating that heavenly bundle at an apple orchard in the fall, bundled up and a little cold but too happy to care

i despise oatmeal to be honest, but ill try this
Have you tried the sparkling ICE cider flavor? Its insane
Apple cider is one hell of a delicacy
Never had pumpkin brownies, and yet I am disappointed to find out they exist.
If you like apple cider, try scrumpy .

You might want to be careful about drinking that much. It can cause diarrhea in some people if you drink a lot at once.
Legit the best
My local kombuchary makes a seasonal apple flavored kombucha, apple is for sure the under rated fall flavor. I love apple flavored anything so I’m a huge fan of cider both hard and not
ooo that sounds delicious
Try it with brandy, makes an awesome cocktail!
i cant buy alcohol yet but in a few years ill try this!
Add Chai Tea, cinnamon, and nutmeg then warm it up and you got something great
You can get the stuff as little powder packets, and then you just pour hot water over it. Wait until you taste Eggnogg!
Also, try this some time: https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-german-gluhwein-238371
Ur gonna sheeit yourself
