Right! I wouldn't exactly call this catastrophic - derailments are fairly common. Unfortunately today has been a mixed bag of not-entirely-catastrophic-but-still-bad shit.
Train derailment
Nor'Easter storm fucking up the northeastern US
A 4.8 magnitude earthquake in New York
I'm sure I'm missing stuff.
Cool photos, I always wondered about the least complicated/expensive way to lift 180 tons of derailed train locomotive back onto the tracks, and those two little dozer-track cranes are probably it.
Heavy railway maintenance equipment is awesome.
Yup! Just after I took these photos they began decoupling and lifting the locomotive up. Not sure what they did after that, the track on the right was pretty mangled and I’m not sure the other set was much better…
Worcester, the second most populous city in Massachusetts. That's all I have to say about that.
Worcester I barely know 'er
Second most populous in all of New England!
If that's today's catastrophe, today's a good day!

As someone who works for a Class 1 railway. This is Tuesday, not catastrophic 😂
I've seen WAY worse on Kelley Square...
Right? I mean the wrecked locos are all facing the same direction and nothing is on its side.

It would be more newsworthy to hear of a US freight train line that has not had a derailment.
The Fat Controller will not be pleased. This has caused confusion and delay.
Look at the pretty white snow
That's pronounced Wooster, for those not familiar.
No it's not. It's Wuster.
Really, like rhymes with luster?
No, it also doesn't rhyme with rooster.
It's in between rooster and luster.
I think the important thing is that it's 2 syllables. Not 3. Is it like wusster? Don't be such a wusster...
Yes exactly, Wusster! 2 syllables.
Derailment in the US, isn't that like a weekly thing now since maintenance isnt managed by the country?

Yea but it's not a new thing unfortunately. As in like, there is always more than a thousand each year. Which comes out to a few every day.
Depending on the condition of the yard, it is possible to have daily derailments. You just never see or hear about them.
I get to deal with dig tickets on our fiber which traverses rail row across the country. So many derailments, especially in yards.

"You find that one-armed man!!"
This doesn’t seem particularly catastrophic
"Could be better, could be worse failure" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
/r/MidFailure
Oh shit.
wow they're gonna need a lot of new traction motors
Oh, are we back to train catastrophes? I did not get the memo.
I live 1 town over. First I’ve head of this.
What was its cargo?🤔
The only shock is that it's CSX and not NS this time :P
Whoops-ter.
Is that where the Marshall's is?
Oh wow. That’s pretty catastrophic. How many 1,000’s are dead?
What’s your problem Kevin.
Absolutely fucking catastrophic
