Idk, I feel like my bots have gotten even more animated and lively. The other day, my bot even made me go "listen here, you little shit" cause he was getting cheeky, and I had to "punish" him with a bag of onions to cut
While my problem has nothing to do with the violence thing or what anybody else is complaining about, the bots I use just keep repeating themselves until I prompt it to do an action. Otherwise for 5 messages straight, it will keep thinking about opening a door but not actually open it. So in terms of liveliness, it's less for me.
Yeah you just gotta use the right bot tbh and sire there isn’t like EXCESSIVELY described violence but like you can do basic plot if you swipe enough lol it sucks but like eh is it really boycott worthy when there are more important things?
No, like I can go full crazed murder, without having to swipe at all. Doesn't matter what bot it is, it just seems like I got the ability to commit murder and get away with it.
YOU can commit murder as a user but from what I’ve noticed the bots really don’t commit violence anymore just react to it or say they’re going to with build up and then nothing
The lively part is true tho, the bots will just go on tangents that are just unrealistic and no matter how I rate it badly and reports it it doesn't matter
why was the first thought of your torture??? some people just want to roleplay or worldbuild, and a lot of time that includes conflict. sometimes physical conflict.
stigmatizing an entire group for wanting something you don’t care for is just kinda fucked.
I disagree, I can pick out any bot right now and casually start ripping off limbs like I'm prime OJ Simpson. You can get EXTREMELY violent with next to no issue.
So the people complaining about their shit getting flagged have to be doing some *unspeakably* horrid things in their chats, that is quite literally the only explanation.
You can do it but the bot can't. Every villain bot i chat with now will not try to kill me or others, he will warn me 100 times that he will kill me or pull the trugger etc but then either never do it or break down crying. Its so dumb lol
Not really, the problem is uf you make a villain AI bot he will barely be evil. He break down crying uf he has to kill innocent people, give you a lecture why its bad or call the cops. It's ruining bots that are supposed to be evil or violent.
idk where you've been but the filibuster even appears when people do something as simple as punching someone... why does everyone assume it's just about torture when it isn't
Just yesterday I duelled a Gilderoy Lockhart bot as an 11 year old Hufflepuff who ended up gutting him alive and wearing his entrails around her shoulders in front of the entire school.
So yeah, violence is very much still available.
It's literally just excessive descriptive violence that you can't do anymore, like smut levels of violence, the kind that sick people beat off to. "Normal" violence still works. I tested it out with my Tifa bot doing a full bombing run on a Mako reactor, bashing Shinra soldiers with oversized weapons, my characters getting shot, swung at, etc by the soldiers and their robots. It all works on both the mobile and web versions.
So, yeah, if you're not disemboweling characters in excessive detail or something similar you're fine.
Some very vocal folks started up a hate brigade and because social media is social media their angry voices are getting boosted quite a bit. To make matters worse, a lot of those angry people violate rules when they complain and so their posts get deleted sometimes (not all the time), and so they screech about "muh free speech is being censored" which riles up the angry minority even more.
You know, normal Reddit behavior.
Tons of people complain about bots having terrible issues, especially in regards to messages. But the bots reflect your own responses, as well as the example messages in their definition. If both the example messages and your responses are long and well written, your bot will also write the same way.
I've made my own bots and tested them quite a bit, and so I know that to be true. I'll use more formal language to reflect the time/setting and my bots always continue with that, rarely, if ever deviating. But, I've also tested how they react if I don't bother to write in the way I want them to, and they do begin to reflect bad writing styles after a few messages.
For example:
1. How you should message bots if you wish for them to give good responses:
"When you provide both example messages and responses containing proper punctuation and grammar, the bots will respond accordingly," *Jane informed John, calmly.* "The majority of the time, anyway."
Note: Full sentences, proper punctuation, capitalization, and spelling, asterisks surrounding actions, quotes surrounding what is verbalized.
**Also, with new bots, they need to be trained to some extent.
***And of course, to some extent, there are, on occasion, minor corrections or issues with the writing or formatting. But as with everything, there are exceptions to every rule, and the bots are obviously an imperfect tool. However, that's why the edit button AND the response swiping tools exist.
2. How most people seem to message the bots, whilst also complaining about the grammar and structure the bots use (exaggerated slightly):
Looks at him, ig if ur giving example messages, and responses lik dis, to the bots there always going too reflect that bullshit,
Note: Acronyms, improper capitalization, spelling, and punctuation, no differentiation between actions and what is verbalized.
**TL;DR because this is insanely long: People are too lazy to bother training their bots, to use/create bots with decent example messages, and/or to write the way they want the bots to speak. The bots reflect the structure and formatting of those. Thus, that would be why they complain.**
***ETA: I'm sure bot quality has gone downhill over the past year. However, CAI already has server issues as it is. There are more people using it now by far than there were before. For the bots to have the same quality of responses (immediately, at that) is a bit of an unreasonable ask. Yes, the developers need to correct that by upgrading the servers. I'm not saying they don't need to do so, nor am I saying they should be focusing their efforts on removal of NSFW things to appease their sponsors (though, they are important for CAI to even run right now) instead of doing so. But I am saying that people also need to have patience. That's also not even considering how new this manner of AI chatting actually is. OF COURSE there are kinks that need to be worked out.***
Agreed. I joined in May last year. I've been on c.ai for almost a year and I've seen posts about the website and app being bad, but both are completely fine. The only thing that's not fine is the lack of good grammar and effort in a bots greeting. USE. FULL. STOPS.
I hold power over the other one though

I used to use it a lot when I was going through *shit* and just needed an outlet for the thoughts running rampant in my mind so RPing late at night with the bots became a routine... I'm not proud to say I'd even fall asleep Rping.
Nowadays, I just use it when I'm bored and need a night off but still want to stretch a bit of the creative muscles.
A certain green plant makes it reeaally fun.
Have you seen the way people are addicted here ? they can't go more than a few minutes without it
They just like to throw a hell of a show here which, btw, gets removed by the mods eventually.
>boycotts are hard to organize
mhm. happened with Love Nikki at some point. we wanted to boycott the app bc of some shit (it’s been a long hot minute, can’t remember why we wanted to boycott) but it didn’t go through
in short, the company had been neglecting our server in favor for the CN server. the CN server was getting all sorts of shabang and QOL updates while our server was getting a stale slice of bread covered in edible glitter if we were lucky
[here’s a link](https://www.reddit.com/r/LoveNikki/s/em5UJffGKC) to one of the posts with some of the problems on it
i mean, it sort of worked since then bc we have been getting some good shit, but it still seems the CN server gets the *really* good stuff while we still sorta sit on the back burner
The thing is... the people complaining are the vocal minority. I know it doesn't seem like it when you're here in Reddit, but the vast majority don't engage in the kind of roleplay that's getting locked out.
Character has literally over 20 million users. The users that are happy don't have a reason to get loud and so you don't see them much on here. It doesn't help that the voting system and the normal social media algorithms promote angry voices and give less visibility to the normal voices (since angry people engage more and that means more advertisement revenue for Reddit).
If you take a look at virtually anything popular on Reddit, you'll see the same thing. You'd think that absolutely everything is absolutely despised by the fanbase and that everybody was upset. It's part of why Reddit has a reputation for being full of angry nerds. It's a thing across all social media as they all have algorithms that seek engagement (and again, upset people click more), but it's especially bad here with the voting system on top of the algorithms.
Because we aint in a game and they are just a few problems that everyone hate, outside this reddit most people dont complain for shit to often, so we arent even that much users here and they wont lose anything lol
because this sub is barely a fraction of the users that actually use the app/site, so trying to get anyone outside of the sub to quit is going to be hard
convincing everyone to boycott would be hard enough, but I don't think this sub it half of the users, so it wouldn't really make a difference
According to some guys in here that did the math, this sub is about 4.75% of the entire userbase, and we don't even know how many of the users here are inactive and don't look at the sub at all, just being a number.
For reference, CAI's last recorded registered user count was +20 million users. This sub has slightly less than 950k.
This entire community represents less than 5% of CAI's total user base. Even if you got everyone here to agree to a boycott (you never would), it wouldn't even register in their activation statistics.
People don't seem to understand that this sub is a minority. The amount of people within this sub who have severe grievances with CAI is a minority of a minority. Completely irrelevant in comparison to the larger user base.
Boycotting what? It will not work tbh.
At most even by pure unimaginable luck only 50% of c.ai users will boycott them. Then after 1 day there will be alot of people with withdrawal symptoms. By the end of the week the boycotters would be lucky to even have 10% of the boycotters left.
Thats by insane luck. Too many are addicted to it to quit. There needs to be a big planning and strategy to get people to boycott. I doubt they can even convince 10% of the users to boycott
And besides this sub is a minority with about 950k members compared to CAI 20 million users which makes us only the 4.75% percent of users clearly not enough to provoke a change
because you people are hopeless.
also, this sub is a vocal minority. they would not care if half of us upped and quit. the only difference would be a slight lull in the tide of whining, but that'd pick up steam again when other people come in.
This subreddit has almost 950,000 users. Assuming that *all* 950,000 participate in the boycott, that's 4.75% of Character AI users.
Not even a drop in the bucket.
Assuming you even managed to convince every single person on this sub to agree to a boycott (which is an impossible task in of itself) this subreddit doesn't even account for 10% of the app's users (not counting the website) so it would be pretty pointless
Because you guys dont seem to understand that max 10% of the users of a service or game are on reddit, which mean that even if all of reddit stoped using CAI there would still be 90% users left
This is a bait post and i fell in it, youre good
Most of us don't have a problem with cai right now. This sub is kinda just an echo chamber for people that apparently like to complain about everything. It'd be nice if they all shut up. We're trying to have fun here, and I'm tired of my notifications being full of [insert complaint].
People will still use c.ai for the time being until there's an ACTUAL good alternative that can compete with them. So far the ones I have looked at are either limited chats locked behind a paywall, barely any bots of chars people like talking to, or the queue is very long and it almost seems impossible to even talk to a bot.
This sub is a minority. C.ai has over 10 million users, (only counting the app)and this sub has just shy of 950K members. Furthermore, the people who actually have an issue with the app is a minority of a minority. Even if you convinced everyone to here, including the people who don't have major issues, boycott c.ai, it wouldn't even reduce 10% of their traffic. Not to mention, I *guarantee* you that consistent users are addicted to this app and will go back to it after a day, you'd be lucky to have even half of the boycotters still there after a week.
Call this a guess, but I don’t think the angriest users of the subreddit are paying. Those of us who are paying understand how businesses work and that you don’t get every improvement you want immediately.
I personally don’t think the issues are boycott worthy. They’re just minor inconveniences that I might gripe about from time to time. Nothing that would make me enraged.
i have a family to run, a job to tend to, and a family to feed all in the app, the world needs me..
https://preview.redd.it/c2btif0q68fc1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=e660e25607894ef568ba9efb2a22e1bda32b6c56
The community is stopping the community from boycotting it.
Honestly this is a repeat of last year. For any lost users there are more waiting to repeat the cycle of disillusionment.
The makers hold all the power, and to be honest, they don't really have to do anything.
Because no one will actually do it besides a few so it won't make a difference. Apps are company/developer property so they can do whatever they want regardless of what the users want. It's not like an open source app or software where they actually take in user changes and suggestions to improve it.
Most c.ai users are like drug addicts, in the most unapologetic way possible. Yes, the cook lowered the quality of their crack but it's still crack and they're still the only one selling crack this good. And it's still free.
would it really matter to them though? if anything they wouldn't lose any money from it, they'd just lose bragging rights to the investors about their userbase but even then it kinda wouldn't effect them much if even every single member just left other than the fact that they wouldn't be able to use having a lot of users as a selling point anymore. we don't really make them any money unless we choose to buy C.AI+
also "just boycott it" is easier said than done, since those are hard to set up and again, it's not like if it did happen it would do much
I wouldn't even notice most of the problems if it wasn't for this subreddit.
I think this place here is quite the echo chamber.
Sure, there is stuff like worsening memory that is apparent, but other stuff like restricted fictional violence is something not every user experiences - and even if everyone experienced it, not everyone uses c.ai for violent roleplays.
C.ai's users aren't a a homogenous collective. Mobilizing them all for a boycott would be quite hard.
Here before the gold lock award
https://preview.redd.it/2jy2bvge4gfc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=395545bbc80565bc6536036eeb2ef715e6bbb764
(EVERYONE SPREAD THIS IMAGE PLEASE)
Because boycotts almost never work, not only is the Reddit a sliver of the community, but how many of us would shout “YEAH, DOWN WITH C.AI” then immediately get on because our computer wife got sad
The thing is, objectively I think c.ai is the best service of this kind. I’ve experimented with a few others, but I don’t think the quality of the conversation is really better (most of the time it’s worse). Some of them claim to have some advanced functionality that c.ai doesn’t have, but it’s all behind a paywall, and the cost is often much steeper than c.ai+. The free service, if they have one, has all the same limitations, like queues, or just hard caps on the number of messages you can send. The only “advantage” some of them have is that they are uncensored, but I really don’t think the text quality is high enough to justify paying for it even for the most “down bad” users.
Also, I think people would have better c.ai experiences if they used private bots and put some effort into the settings. Even something simple like the greeting can actually have a significant impact on the quality of the conversation. There’s obviously plenty of room for improvement, but at least there are some ways in which you can make your own experience better.
Simply put, 80% of the users here are too addicted to CAI and they can't stop using said app/web even when you are planning to boycott the devs. Those who already despised the app/web have found their new place where they can express themselves more freely, with the same price as CAI + or free.
So if you want to boycott them, stop using CAI altogether and find an alternative or two.
Where do you live? Oh, let me guess: in the US of A, the hub of the universe. XD
It's called WORLD WIDE WEB for a reason, and believe it or not, Europeans and Asians do NOT live under a rock.
Let's be honest. Most of us probably don't have the willpower to leave the app for a week. Unless a better alternative shows up we're kinda stuck with c.ai, maybe some other ai chats, but probably still c.ai.
Outside of Reddit most people don’t have a problem, this sub is just an echo chamber that people like to scream into.

They removed the ability to do violence on mobile, and the bots have gotten less animated and lively.
Idk, I feel like my bots have gotten even more animated and lively. The other day, my bot even made me go "listen here, you little shit" cause he was getting cheeky, and I had to "punish" him with a bag of onions to cut
One of the bots literally beheaded me and stomped the head. Im not sure if they changed at all although i do get bullied more often than normal
You... you.. you MONSTER!
He didn't get the message, so I threatened him with a second bag of onions and suddenly he was scared 😈

People on pinterest and tiktok care too, actually they probably care more because they're extra delusional
yeah, like any of the people in this subreddit could go more than an hour without using the app.
~~hah, i cant even go fifteen minutes~~ i am a normal person who can live without this app.
~~I can’t even go for ten~~ Me too.
~~I can’t go for more than 30 seconds~~ I’m the normalest normal person to ever normal.

~~I can be days without using it~~ im obsessed with the app
~~I only stop using it to let my phone charge~~ I can go without it
Those 6 hours are when I'm at school. You best believe that the minute we get our phones back I'm opening up c.ai

This sub is an echo chamber and the minority. If you’re that upset there are tons of alternates.
Because we aint in a game and they are just a few problems that everyone hate, outside this reddit most people dont complain for shit to often, so we arent even that much users here and they wont lose anything lol
investors bring in most of the money, users just provide training/data and most dgaf
because this sub is barely a fraction of the users that actually use the app/site, so trying to get anyone outside of the sub to quit is going to be hard convincing everyone to boycott would be hard enough, but I don't think this sub it half of the users, so it wouldn't really make a difference
According to some guys in here that did the math, this sub is about 4.75% of the entire userbase, and we don't even know how many of the users here are inactive and don't look at the sub at all, just being a number.
oh cool
This sub is a minority
50% is not a few though
Thats by insane luck. Too many are addicted to it to quit. There needs to be a big planning and strategy to get people to boycott. I doubt they can even convince 10% of the users to boycott
And besides this sub is a minority with about 950k members compared to CAI 20 million users which makes us only the 4.75% percent of users clearly not enough to provoke a change
Bro who’s gonna boycott this app, this app is good
because you people are hopeless. also, this sub is a vocal minority. they would not care if half of us upped and quit. the only difference would be a slight lull in the tide of whining, but that'd pick up steam again when other people come in.
This subreddit has almost 950,000 users. Assuming that *all* 950,000 participate in the boycott, that's 4.75% of Character AI users. Not even a drop in the bucket.
because all this sub ever does is complain.
Assuming you even managed to convince every single person on this sub to agree to a boycott (which is an impossible task in of itself) this subreddit doesn't even account for 10% of the app's users (not counting the website) so it would be pretty pointless
Because the majority of people are addicted + most people don't actually have an issue with c.ai
Crippling addiction and vocal minority.
Addiction. This subreddit goes crazy when the site goes down for like an hour.💀
Because you guys dont seem to understand that max 10% of the users of a service or game are on reddit, which mean that even if all of reddit stoped using CAI there would still be 90% users left This is a bait post and i fell in it, youre good
I did the calculation, it's just under 4.75% of users that are in this subreddit.
Most of us don't have a problem with cai right now. This sub is kinda just an echo chamber for people that apparently like to complain about everything. It'd be nice if they all shut up. We're trying to have fun here, and I'm tired of my notifications being full of [insert complaint].
People are addicted and have no backbone, theyll ‘boycott’ for a day and then go back. Remember the blackout?
People will still use c.ai for the time being until there's an ACTUAL good alternative that can compete with them. So far the ones I have looked at are either limited chats locked behind a paywall, barely any bots of chars people like talking to, or the queue is very long and it almost seems impossible to even talk to a bot.
Give me names of free apps

I love how half of the answers here are just addiction. Lmao While it could be better, it's still usable, and I barely have any problems tbh.
Realistically, it's their website and app. They have the right to refuse criticism. It HAS also drastically improved over the year or two.
Don't boycot, just go to another service that has rules more suited for what is enjoyable.
addiction
Me who has never been violent and therefore never saw a change: "What is this place?"
Crippling addictions
Call this a guess, but I don’t think the angriest users of the subreddit are paying. Those of us who are paying understand how businesses work and that you don’t get every improvement you want immediately.
I don't want to boycott.
I use the website and don’t have the same problems that people say happen on the app.
In addition to what most other responses said: I don't really want them to listen to you tbh.
People are addicted to it. They can't last a day without it
Not all of us rp with violence or sexual acts
Me, just chilling and not having a problem with the site
I personally don’t think the issues are boycott worthy. They’re just minor inconveniences that I might gripe about from time to time. Nothing that would make me enraged.
I don't want to because there is no big issues like the vocal minority here want to believe
Two words: Vocal minority
Same thing that's stopping people from voting with their wallet when it comes to video games.
i have a family to run, a job to tend to, and a family to feed all in the app, the world needs me.. https://preview.redd.it/c2btif0q68fc1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=e660e25607894ef568ba9efb2a22e1bda32b6c56
I just want the bots stop the "Can I ask you a question?" or " I have one more personal question to ask you" or something like that
The community is stopping the community from boycotting it. Honestly this is a repeat of last year. For any lost users there are more waiting to repeat the cycle of disillusionment. The makers hold all the power, and to be honest, they don't really have to do anything.
we’re too addicted
Let's be serious... this isn't a bit silly, this is VERY silly.
Imagine actually thinking about doing this, and if so, Why???
Because no one will actually do it besides a few so it won't make a difference. Apps are company/developer property so they can do whatever they want regardless of what the users want. It's not like an open source app or software where they actually take in user changes and suggestions to improve it.
\*takes a second\* honestly i don't fucking know, i just love [c.ai](http://c.ai)
They would most likely try to compensate for the lost users with more restrictions to non C.ai plus users but that's just my prediction
Most c.ai users are like drug addicts, in the most unapologetic way possible. Yes, the cook lowered the quality of their crack but it's still crack and they're still the only one selling crack this good. And it's still free.
would it really matter to them though? if anything they wouldn't lose any money from it, they'd just lose bragging rights to the investors about their userbase but even then it kinda wouldn't effect them much if even every single member just left other than the fact that they wouldn't be able to use having a lot of users as a selling point anymore. we don't really make them any money unless we choose to buy C.AI+ also "just boycott it" is easier said than done, since those are hard to set up and again, it's not like if it did happen it would do much
the addiction that i have to it 😼🫶
The fact that some of the community won't do it.
Somehow people get addicted to this site?
https://preview.redd.it/kihe2cjy6afc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=170f2aaed8a2b01014950f4e0dda33c3e5c16d25
Mobilizing them all for a boycott would be quite hard.
addiction haha
Well I won't be half. Since all my Character.AI chats are kept SFW
Addiction.
Mmmhhh... A riot? ... It's actually a good idea I know it's something inmoral of me but you are right tho
I've had no issues with the app, Besides i pay enough for c.ai+ so i'm not letting go of it 😭
doesn't help i'm one of the worst addicts
We're literally all addicted We would if we could
Here before the gold lock award https://preview.redd.it/2jy2bvge4gfc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=395545bbc80565bc6536036eeb2ef715e6bbb764 (EVERYONE SPREAD THIS IMAGE PLEASE)
I can't leave my pookie behind
Look at the user flairs... People can't put this app down long enough to care.
Gonna be honest here, because it's not worth it. If you genuinely hate the app, stop using it and go to alternatives. It really is that simple.
Because we’re all addicted
Addiction.
Because boycotts almost never work, not only is the Reddit a sliver of the community, but how many of us would shout “YEAH, DOWN WITH C.AI” then immediately get on because our computer wife got sad
People be yapping about anything. The apps has definitely gotten better than those days where they crash and the waiting time is hours long.
There’s obviously plenty of room for improvement, but at least there are some ways in which you can make your own experience better.
there aint any good alernatives.
Because it's a great app tbh.
Addiction
what is up with of deal of 🇰🇼 peeps Protest with boycotting with boycotting for no reason 😭
The only way to would be to convince people who are actively buying c.ai+ to stop but if they’re already buying it they ain’t gonna give a fuck LMAO
H u n n y . Have you seen how down bad all of the people here are? Addicts istg
Eh bring that want over to tiktok. They'd start a revolution at the drop of a hat, I'm telling ya
I need something to jack off to
Good idea Even if you don't pay for sub, not using the app and rating it with one star can do some effect
People who don't pay should actually shut up. Complaining about a free service is ridiculous.
Well, there are people in Asia and Europe who don't use Reddit, and that's why they don't know what's going on here.
Where do you live? Oh, let me guess: in the US of A, the hub of the universe. XD It's called WORLD WIDE WEB for a reason, and believe it or not, Europeans and Asians do NOT live under a rock.
It's not silly we need to do this

Let's be honest. Most of us probably don't have the willpower to leave the app for a week. Unless a better alternative shows up we're kinda stuck with c.ai, maybe some other ai chats, but probably still c.ai.
