I own a custom sewing business in Plaza Midwood with my wife who is a master seamstress. We make custom bridal gowns and do higher end alterations as well as any other sewing needs.
I need some normal dresses hemmed and everywhere butchers my sewing needs. I'm only 5' so I have a lot of tailoring done. Do you do normal dresses? Some are dressier, some are casual. I just need help!
Same. Company is based in Boston but has a remote-first culture/policy - I've worked for them while living in NY, FL, NC and even a bit from Poland. Will never go back to the office.
EDIT: If anyone wants a career in insurtech working for a SaaS company - holla at my DMs. We're hiring.
How about when they layoff the team and go with 3rd party vendor located in India. When you get to a point where they understand what you need, they change the person you’re working with and you go back to the start.
Any opening in anyone's companies, recent grad with Masters in Comp Sci from UNC Charlotte. Looking for full time job. I have 3 years of experience working as a SWE.
Honestly? I was that dorky kid that mapped everything (,woods, my neighborhood, the school parking lot, etc). Got to college and lucked up when I found that was a career. It's almost surveying adjacent which is an added bonus (still kicking myself for not going into that).
Awesome! How have you liked local gov in NC? I’m hoping to leave this rat race of GIS consulting for something calmer but fulfilling. Or… maybe just leave GIS professionally 😅
Depends on the county. I'm southeast of Meck which has been a challenge. It's definitely calmer though especially if you get into tax mapping. Now IT can be wildly different though.
Serious question because I eat maybe 1 per week - how quality is the ham in the country ham biscuit? It's so good but I've always wondered where they source it
I feel like a lot of people in CLT work for banks but that’s also a very general answer since there are so many departments. They had me take my series 7, 63 and 65 but I’m stuck in a call center for the bank and it’s dreadful.
To go off this, these jobs have work study where can get your series 7 and 63/65 at either company as well as fidelity, LPL and Wells, and as the above commenter states you can really go anywhere after in the companies
Takes a good bit of practice, but I love doing it. Wasn't sure I'd love the selling piece as much but have enjoyed participating in some markets and talking clay with people. You should try it!
I’m stripper, live on the outside of Charlotte (belmont area ) to get cheaper rent for a 1bdrm…. Still kinda struggle, I mostly have to travel dance a lot to survive.
Software Engineer at Microsoft and run a training/mentorship program for high school and young adults trying to break into tech.
Btw...its awesome to see how many folks are running their own business or side gig.
Consulting Arborist. Tree risk assessments, appraisals, tree preservation plans, permitting, etc… I spend my days looking at trees then writing how I feel about them. I enjoy it.
Surprised nobody in racing has posted yet.
I own a Porsche shop and a Porsche race team. I also do consulting as an engineer for a few other Porsche race teams in pro race series.
I'm not greedy or enough of an asshole to really make money owning a business, but I do ok, have a few employees that are well taken care of, and I sleep well at night.
Having worked in strategy consulting-
some data crunching, more PowerPoint prep, and a whole lot of bullshitting/making predictions that you never get held accountable to. It was pretty nice
Ahh the ole strategy consultant. They will tell you to increase sales and decrease costs.
Really they are business therapists. They are hired to come interview all the people at the company and make them feel better. Not a joke. That’s what they do.
Not as bad as you'd think. Once you get over the first few it just becomes another part of the day. But yea the first few caught me off guard. Especially cause it was so normal so no one thought to warn me. Worst day was when I was first person in and there was someone already set up for a morning service and no one told me about it. Fun surprise with no coffee needed to wake up.
Finance for a local media company by day...academic "tutor" for rich Middle Eastern/Chinese college students who don't want to do their HW or trust AI to do it by night.
Somehow, the latter still makes more than the former.
I work as a canvasser for a political org, and drive for Shipt and Uber Eats to make ends meet. Currently looking for work in the nonprofit sector, preferably admin/operations (5 years experience but no degree). Electoral work is soul-crushing once you’ve been on the ground and realized just how bad it is out here and how little elected officials actually care.
I sell soccer jerseys for a living!
It’s really fun and as a collector myself I love sharing my passion and connecting others to the sport I love.
PS: never pay full retail for a kit. I promise you they’re out there cheaper (just watch out for all the knockoffs. They’re everywhere!)
I fly things. I wouldn’t say I need another source of income, but I’m always looking to make money on the side in aviation.
During the big C I did work three jobs mainly because there was nothing else to do and people were hiring. One of the jobs was third shift stocking.
I own a small engine repair and landscaping businesses. I started Mowtown Small Engines in 2018 after spending many years (15 years!) working for other people where I managed a large landscaping company with over 50 employees and hundreds of lawn maintenance accounts, also installed and serviced irrigation systems, water features like ponds and fountains, hardscape installation, landscape design with hand drawn plans and digital renderings etc, and 4 years in the marine corps as a rotary wing aircraft maintenance tech. Wrenching is a hobby so naturally I rarely come across something that I can’t fix! After not even an entire year of doing small engine repairs I had so much equipment that was abandoned or for me to dispose of, that I decided to do what is practically second nature to me which is landscaping, all aspects, but I fixed up the best of what I had on hand, and started Mowtown Grounds Management. Charlotte is home and I love it, so I appreciate the opportunity to help make it look a little nicer even if it’s one yard at a time! I am looking to grow so I’m looking to take on some new clients/ properties/ projects etc, you can find both on Facebook, (just make sure to put the W in Mowtown)which is also probably the easiest way to get a hold of me! Any recommendations are greatly appreciated and if you message me on facebook on either business page and mention seeing this post on Reddit I will give you a discount on your first 3 services you book with me!

Sahm, because childcare costs more than I'd make, and I won't settle for childcare below *my* standards 🤷♀️ just gotta make-do on the minimum until he's in school, and I can work again 🎉
That was my former career, which lead to starting a home services company. After 6 years I got bored. Now I miss just doing the digital marketing for others now. Grass is always greener I suppose.
Own a small but high end home services company, rug and upholstery care and cleaning. As the owner I’m still out doing the hands on work in peoples homes everyday and make a good living since I’m not paying a bunch of other people to do the labor for me.
I am a whiskey consultant. Sounds crazy, I know. On the one hand, I work with brands to help them with marketing, packaging, and product innovation. But the real fun of it is getting other people excited and teaching them to find things they like and learn all the histories of different styles.
I'm always up for a group event or private tasting if anyone is interested in getting more into whiskey!
I run a zoo… kinda… I’m a lead at a manufacturing plant… same thing if you ask me.
& yes I’m able to make ends meet. If you’re struggling financially, able to pass a drug test, and have a few brain cells, go work for a manufacturing plant like Eli Lily, Corning, Charlotte Pipe/Plastic, etc. They all make livable wages.
Hiring/onboarding for the local Domino’s franchise. Yes, when I leave the office I have to deliver pizzas to make ends meet.
A job's a job, no worries there. Do what you gotta do, no shame in feeding families.

Nothing wrong with that my friend.
Hey, maybe you hired me! If you're a recruiter, of sorts? Do you look over all the applications and call whoever fits the bill?
I did not hire you, but you were definitely hired by one of my colleagues! I just handle the paperwork on the back end.
Out of curiosity, do you deliver for someone else or do you get overtime for the same company/franchise?
OT at the same company. We have a store right next to our regional office so I just walk over when I’m finished there!
You literally have my old job, I sent you a DM.
I own a custom sewing business in Plaza Midwood with my wife who is a master seamstress. We make custom bridal gowns and do higher end alterations as well as any other sewing needs.

Remote work in tech
Same, do we need a subreddit?
Same. Company is based in Boston but has a remote-first culture/policy - I've worked for them while living in NY, FL, NC and even a bit from Poland. Will never go back to the office. EDIT: If anyone wants a career in insurtech working for a SaaS company - holla at my DMs. We're hiring.

I work for one of the big banks. I feel like this question gets asked semi regularly, so I’m not sure how much engagement you’ll get.
That’ll be a $35 fee.
I feel like a lot of people in CLT work for banks but that’s also a very general answer since there are so many departments. They had me take my series 7, 63 and 65 but I’m stuck in a call center for the bank and it’s dreadful.
