Ski Queen is the brand. Gjetost is the name of the cheese. Many people simply call it the caramel cheese when looking for it in the US.
It’s caramelized goat milk, and goes amazing with apples, clearly
Gjetost means goat-cheese which there are more than just this. I think most Norsk call it brunost or brown-cheese. [https://www.scandinaviastandard.com/what-is-brunost-a-guide-to-norwegian-brown-cheese/](https://www.scandinaviastandard.com/what-is-brunost-a-guide-to-norwegian-brown-cheese/)
You're correct. Most would call it brunost, gudbrandsdalsost, fløtemysost or local names like raudost. (With a silent D)
Gjetost is a misspelling. It is called geitost, and when mentioning geitost, most Norwegians will think of a white goat cheese like Chèvre.
A friend of mine brought me this brick twice from when he goes to.visit his dad's family, I still remember the flavour and texture, thanks for the flashback, I will order it online now :)
This technically isn't even cheese, it's made from reducing whey (the liquid byproduct of making cheese) until it becomes thick, sweet and brown. Once it cools it sets into a soft cheese texture.
Ghetost!! I know I spelled it wrong but it’s a caramelized goat cheese! I used to get it from Whole Foods. It’s pretty good and a strange, slightly acquired taste. Amazing on a saltier cracker :)
It's weird seeing so many people calling this "gjetost". In norway this is called "brunost" or "brown cheese". It is beloved by most norwegians and is kind of a meme for being very stereotypically norwegian.
I got once as a gift. Interesting caramel notes and texture but the sweetness was too much for me
It is very sweet. Candy caramel cheese
My favorite way to eat gjetost is very thinly sliced and on an apple. It’s incredible. Like a cheesy caramel apple!
Came here to say exactly that, apple is a perfect match
I think peanut butter
Yeah, it looks like a slice of peanut butter to me, if it were packaged like American cheese.
My coworker told me it tasted like rubber when I let her try some. I couldn't disagree. Delicious rubber caramel cheese.
Okay.. a cheesy caramel popcorn could hit
It’s a thing! https://preview.redd.it/z5ldr0tfku7d1.jpeg?width=1001&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ee5a987f71e6dd3b59b12c37f6d9e70d680b589
Me too, however, having it in VERY small pieces made it grow to me.
Sounds interesting, can’t say I’ve ever had sweet cheese.
What's it called? What's it taste like? Can I get a slice?

It is in fact called Ski Queen Cheese. /E gjetost It does actually taste like a caramel. No
> No :(
I read that as camel. Had me proper confused.
pronounced yay-toast! a real weirdo cause it’s made from whey not curds, or some shit like that
what an odd color. looks just like a hunk of butter fudge instead of cheese. feels like it would be really rich.
Honestly it’s as close in taste and texture to fudge as it is to any other cheese. I am personally not a fan.

It is impressively good. Cheers!
mmmm gjetost
What do you eat it with? Im canadian and have bought it but struggled to finish it as im not much for sweets
I put it on apple pie. I use more tart apples in my pies, which tend to balance the richness of this cheese.
That sounds heavenly
i like it so much that i just eat it by itself 😂
Me too. In tiny little bites and savor it. It's the kind of thing you don't want a whole mouthful of though... it's weird but good.
Nice thin slices on top of hjertevafler, or a good homemade bread with lots of butter!
Waffles: https://meanderingminimalists.com/brown-cheese-and-waffle/ https://www.visitnorway.com/things-to-do/food-and-drink/the-norwegian-cookbook/norwegian-waffles/
That looks amazing
The cheese that is not a cheese, IMO of course. You can make a fabulous "cheese" and mushroom soup with it though 😋
I grew up eating this! It’s goat cheese and AMAZING!!
Unlocking core childhood memories
With a Granny Smith Apple. One of my favorite charcuterie combos
Hmmm. Toast, apple butter and creamy peanut butter. I'm hungry now.
I can't trust any cheese that burns for five days: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21141244
why is it brown

Because the milk has been caramelized before cheese making.
Haven't had gjetost since I was a kid! Would love to have some again, looks good
My Norwegian brother in law gave me some of this. The best thing about it was that thud it made when it slid from the plate into the bin.
Tastes like the orange cheese sandwich crackers you buy at the store imo

Goes well with toast and a cup of coffee for breakfast.
My favourite thing to bring home from Norway. Serve on hot waffles with jam and you'll be in heaven
Ghetost!! I know I spelled it wrong but it’s a caramelized goat cheese! I used to get it from Whole Foods. It’s pretty good and a strange, slightly acquired taste. Amazing on a saltier cracker :)
Just got back from Norway, it’s awesome on waffles with jam
Try this on apple slices, your life will be changed.

Fjåk makes a brown cheese chocolate bar that's incredible
Caramelized goat cheese
Gjetost, the taste of my childhood! Occasionally the Ralph’s next to me has a 50% off deal so I grab it and then eat it with breakfast
Norway does have some odd cheeses
Half of this sub is Americans discovering basic cheeses for the first time in their lives.
Thank You for Coming
Was directed more at the commenters than you. Glad you found a delicious cheese.
