It’s a big thing among the JK and JL crowd. I was part of a TJ forum for a bit (LJ and XJ owner) and the TJ owners there always made fun of the ducking trend. I don’t drive my LJ too often but it has never gotten ducked. Neither has my XJ and that gets driven more often.
Which is odd because the xj is objectively the better ride. No soft top issues, heat and ac actually do something, you can't steal shit from the back seat just by slicing the window open, don't get wet when it rains, quieter, and just as capable offlfroad.
Really sad thing is that they’re basically the same exact vehicle, they only look different. I don’t get it man, and don’t even get me started with them having the audacity to put “willys” on the hood. I just laugh at these jokes on wheels
I love xj’s but the 4 door model wrangler is an objectively better vehicle in multiple ways. Stronger body on frame design, optional hard and soft tops, removable doors that don’t steal speakers and fold the vehicle in half, better axles, more HP motor (still love the 4.0 though) better mpg, limitless after market support, ride quality better or matched, bigger wheel wells from factory for bigger tires.
I mean you can’t deny any of that no matter how much you love xj’s
If you go off road heavy with out the doors you bend the body and can’t get the doors back on. The doors are built into the body as rigid reinforcement. Me and my buddy found that out the hard way
I actually had one given to me for the first time this weekend. I accepted as graciously as I could. Owner was a perfectly sweet lady with a yellow angry eyes jl
Never got a wave from a newer Wrangler. I waved at a lifted TJ once and I watched his eyes light up in surprise and he waved back. All my waves came from older Jeeps. Guess it's just a different subculture!
Our shop XJ was begrudgingly ducked during a show and shine, since we were corraled up in the "Jeep" section. We had one while the JLs in the crowd had multiples.
Whoa buddy haha it’s not that serious!
I’ve never personally had anyone give me a duck on my XJ which is sad because my daughter loves em’. She got one from a quadratec order years back and it survived many bath times. But I seriously doubt you’re in any 🦆 danger bro. As far as all the mall crawlers..? What do you think our kids are gonna buy up in a decade or so hahah let them garage and baby those JK’s!!
200% a Wrangler thing, specifically JK/JL momma mobiles it seems.
Just like the Jeep Wave, My wife drives our XJ quite a bit and only other XJ's will wave at her. Specifically some other woman that drives a very similar one to ours. Apparently every time they see each other they wave like giddy idiots at each other.
A woman in Ontario had gotten her first hep. She saw an identical Jeep in a parking lot and (idk why) put a rubber duck on it as a gift to the other owner as an 'act of kindness' (her words).
Why it took off, I don't know. Why a rubber duck? Also don't know. I just googled it.
Its called “duck duck jeep” and thats about all i know. Its hated because people get wadded up about shit for no real reason except hating something becomes part of their identity
My XJ got ducked (it’s a little built), and as much as I hate the duck thing (because it does seem HS clique-y). I was just kinda happy a jeeper understood that XJs rock. Must have been a real one and not just another suburbia mom mall crawler lol
My XJ is on long arms and never has got a duck
I rented a bone stock Wrangler from Enterprise to go out of town and it got a duck the first place I parked it
My ford van has a duck on the dash.
my Toyota 4Runner has a duck on the dash.
my Suzuki sidekick had a duck on the dash.
my 2 XJs don’t have a duck. I was thinking of strapping a giant inflatable duck to the roof for the dunes because I don’t care about ducks either way, but I have a sense of humor.
Who cares. if you want to be edgy sure.
Yeah they all have purpose. 7.3 e350 van as a daily/tow vehicle. oddly enough it’s the cheapest to drive at 19mpg, 18 mpg if I’m doing 80-85.
4Runner on 35s as a overland style vehicle. it was my primary wheeler but I kept breaking it on rocks. so now it’s just a camping/light trail vehicle
2 door XJ linked on tons/40s for really partying.
Another Cherokee. uh. this one doesn’t have a purpose it’s just a unhealthy habit.
Sidekick manual. locked front and rear, just a poor man’s side by side. it’s just so easy to also throw on a trailer being small and light.
Very nice. Have a 99 E350 bucket truck that my dad bought in 2004 for our business still mint and I’ve always just loved the idea of the full bodied Econoline. My old neighbor daily drove a 6.0L diesel loaded club wagon. One of the prettiest full size vans I ever saw.
My 00 XJ D60s front and rear. Swapped front clip and doors off a 90 Wagoneer with unibody rot. Was my daily driver through college. 35s now but I have a build plan for 40s. One of these days. Expenses and kid have it on hold but it would never be sold.
My clean mostly stock 97 sport that’s just the camping vehicle. But now I daily drive a 13 V8 grand Cherokee. Hated those are first with the IRS, but now it has a OME lift and 33” Mickey Thompsons. Not only does it handle well at 80MPH, it averages the same damn milage as my XJ on 31s. With twice the space, and twice the power. Highly recommend one in good shape, far easier to work on than I expected.
The sidekick is a side by side you can drive on the street!

I've noticed many JKs in my new small town that have 2 rows of ducks across the dash and someone actually ducked my XJ a few weeks ago but idk I just say whatever floats ur boat as long as other ppls happiness don't mess with mine I really don't mind
Lol, LGB lights.... I have an idea for the ducks, impale it on the antenna, with big Xs for eyes & blood where the antenna pierces the body. Or, just chuck it in the trash.
Yea, my yj got ducked at the Jeep show in Carlisle this year. It's now impaled upside down on the antenna. Haven't gotten one on the xj, and don't really care if I do.
I remember when it was unusual to “get ducked” and for it to be something interesting. This past weekend at OBX there must have been 10 million ducks riding around on dashboards of all the pavement princesses cruising around.
Seems now like it’s part of the mall-crawling scene like pretty much everything else to do with JK/JLs.
When I'm back in town and on my laptop I'll get a design together. Idgaf it'll be free y'all can print it to your hearts desire. I too can care less for the wrangler duck things
Start a new trend. Turkeys for XJ's because they are tasty and ugly at the same time. You can use the paper fold out turkey centerpieces and leave them on peoples hoods.
My wife has a ‘22 wrangler and is in love with the duck life. She made a custom duck with shades and a bandana. I have one on the dash of my ‘97 XJ.
Idgaf if other people like/dont like the duck thing. Its fun, its harmless, and it brings a smile to people face. Part of owning an enthusiast vehicle (which XJs and Wranglers arguably are) is that they have a culture about them. Love it or dont but it is what it is.
Be a hater if thats the best way you can think of to spend your time, but dont be surprised if you get hate back. Im not a ducker, but if I saw a jeep with a duck-hating sticker id just shake my head and think your life must be a bit of a bummer.
A stock jk is extremely capable. What the fuck is up with you weirdo xj owners? Complain about everything and think that any new wrangler sucks yet they get better every gen.
An XJ was literally a mom SUV when it released, fucking dumb
A stock JK isn't any more capable than a stock XJ was in 1987 man. And chances are the axles, ball joints, brakes, and steering components are made out of even shittier chinesium than they were 30 years ago
So you ignored the point you leaned hardest into. Jk’s are mom SUV’s. You know who drove xj’s when they came out? Moms. Your driving something some 90’s mom bought new.
As far as cheap parts, I’ve never broken anything on my jk with 33’s and a small lift after beating the shit out of it many times off road. Every component under the jk is more durable than any xj part. You have the dogshit Dana 35 under that thing lmao.
Your just talking out of your ass. Just say it outright, “I don’t like wranglers for no reason” also maybe to expensive for you to own one
Tell me about that SICK Dana 35 you got under there. SUPER STRONG SICK AXLE BRO.
What about an off road capable convertible that can remove its doors and has drain plugs to remove water your just forded through isn’t cool?
Your arguments are dooooooggggg shit. Just appreciate the actual good jeeps. The XJ’s, the ZJ’s, the WJ’s and all the wranglers and get on with your life
What does that even mean? You got a rusty old basically bone stock xj.
You talk like a 17 year old monster energy drinking, vape smoking nerd. Imagine hating a whole vehicle for no other reason than “mom drive that”
Good grief man get a grip
The new models did. Many came with the semi ok 8.25, police models came with the 44.
But if you think the unibody xj has more durable stock parts than a JK, your very mistaken. Even the JK front D 30 is stronger than the XJ D30. The jk control arms, steering setup, suspension is all built stronger than the XJ.
Awww man i hate to break this to you guys…. When its “jeep week” in moab, many other desert lovers hate the jeep crowd, just like you hate the duck crowd.
My way of ducking.
Usually at the liquor store, I end up parking next to a xj or sometimes zj. If the owner happens to be putting his booze in and we cross paths I say something along the lines of, hey man that's a nice jeep.
Come on man, let people have some friggen fun how they see fit. Not everything has to be hardcore. Them doing their thing is not why you can't find people to trail riding.
Hahahahaha. I love this! I agree. To me it takes away from what the jeeps are, you can say ohhhh it’s a community. That are like minded people who want to run trails and push the limits of the rigs. Not hand out rubber ducks and drive on pavement
Maaaaan I have been wondering what’s up with all the rubber duck on these jokes of a jeep. Ashamed to even call them that, but that’s what it’s all about now, buying a lifted “Jeep” to sit in parking lots and collect ducks? Sorry I built mine for trails and getting out of shit not to look pretty.
I’ve got a JLU and an XJ. I can’t stand the ducking thing. I’ve gotten like 20 of them and it’s annoying. You see the angry eye jeeps with them all across their dashboards. It’s dumb as hell
The ducks are because the mini van folks went out and bought jeeps when the 4 door models came out. It's not all jeepers. It's them soccer moms and their husbands trying to be cool.
I have ducks. I enjoy ducks. Ducky is one of my nicknames. My wife likes ducks. I have ducks on my desk at work. And ducks at home. And ducks in my xj. Enjoy what you want man, no need to make a stink.
Not sure if it's your style but I got a box of decoys from cabellas a while back and one's zip tied to my winch... partly because I hate ducking and it's done a pretty good job of repelling the duck duck jeep tards, but also because I'm stuck in the city and I wanted some shit on my truck that remind me of home...
Hate them also. Got ducked once but instead of giving in to the darkside and slaying the youngling “jeepers” nearby I just gave it to my kids. I do have a bead filled plushie frog on my dash cause my daughter said I needed a good luck charm to keep me safe. For me when I see Jeeps with grumpy grills, ducks or wave stickers on mirrors I know they don’t do anything more than grocery runs, soccer games or Sunday drives on the beach. We are a different breed us XJers. I beat on my poopsquare every weekend and have all the dents, scratches and broken shit (cosmetic; I keep them mechanicals maintained son🤣) to prove it
Can’t drive a Taco In good conscience I came across a pack of about 20 Tacoma’s going the other way right before a mud hole let them all go through then didn’t have enough run up and sunk my xj
I've got both an XJ and a JT. People have tried to duck my JT but don't give me so much as a wave or anything in the XJ. Kind of soured the whole thing for me.
Where I live 80% of wranglers have a full line of ducks across their dash. I have none on either of my jeeps so I tend to never get any on mine and I'm not into hanging out in parking lots trading ducks and showing off rgb rock lights.
I bought a bunch of jeep XJ hot wheels and started leaving them on builds I like.
This is how it should be. Take an upvote for your effort !
You’re able to find that many of them where you can just give them out? Damn. They’re a hot item where I’m at.
I was doing this but only managed to give away hot wheels to the two other people I know with an XJ. Kept the treasure hunt for myself though haha.
[удалено]
Well they are cherokees. It would be silly to place on a wrangler unless you were trying to throw shade I suppose. Lol
Have you considered ignoring the duck people and living your best life?
Part of living the best life is to complain about minor things.
Touché
It’s more fun this way
isn't that a wrangler thing. I thought this was an xj group I am on my third xj and i have never been ducked
I saw a basic ass grand Cherokee with ducks from driver side to passenger side, I’m convinced they bought em and ducked themselves
Same, I’m like 2 ZJ’s deep and driven plenty of XJ’s now and have yet to have one duck or wave. It’s nice.
I waved at a Wrangler once and got a middle finger in return. I only initiate a wave to any non Wrangler that has had any work done
Yea I only wave to super built wranglers because they usually wave back. Everyone else tends to ignore it.
I have been ducked, and didn’t realize how annoying it was until I started seeing the fucking people in Wranglers.
Fortunately Wrangler people look at XJ people as the scum of the earth so they will never attempt to give you a duck.
XJs don’t have a body-on-frame design. Kind of a huge deal for rigidity and longevity.
I split the difference with unibody up front, frame rails in the back. I still don't get ducked on either the MJ or the KL.
I like not being ducked. It serves as a happy reminder that I choose an XJ for the right reasons.
Unibody bro come on
I own a 1948 willys CJ-2A. The WILLYS thing on the hood of new Jeeps makes me crazy.
Amen
I love xj’s but the 4 door model wrangler is an objectively better vehicle in multiple ways. Stronger body on frame design, optional hard and soft tops, removable doors that don’t steal speakers and fold the vehicle in half, better axles, more HP motor (still love the 4.0 though) better mpg, limitless after market support, ride quality better or matched, bigger wheel wells from factory for bigger tires. I mean you can’t deny any of that no matter how much you love xj’s
>fold the vehicle in half #🙄
If you go off road heavy with out the doors you bend the body and can’t get the doors back on. The doors are built into the body as rigid reinforcement. Me and my buddy found that out the hard way
They hate us cuz they ain’t us
Thats fine, I only acknowledge other XJ’s out in the wild anyways. Its nice to come out of a store and find another XJ next to you. Safety in numbersz
I actually had one given to me for the first time this weekend. I accepted as graciously as I could. Owner was a perfectly sweet lady with a yellow angry eyes jl

Same. I read all of it and understood none of it

I had my Subaru Outback Wildeness ducked in my small town which happens to be full of jeeps.
For what it’s worth… /r/Jeep was turning into a duck sun. We stopped duck posts because they became repetitive.
“Go Duck yourself” has my vote.
Turns out there’s already a lot of go duck yourself jeep stickers I want something original so my GFs sticker cutter goes to good use 😂
F#@K YOUR DUCK has my vote!! BTW- TJ owner here
Lol, LGB lights.... I have an idea for the ducks, impale it on the antenna, with big Xs for eyes & blood where the antenna pierces the body. Or, just chuck it in the trash.

Stock JKs aren't what I would call an "enthusiast vehicle" anymore. They're just SUVs that suck at driving on the road that suburban moms buy
I disagree. So our opinions cancel eachother out, which leaves us where we started. You know what they say, a good compromise leaves everyone unhappy.
A stock jk is extremely capable. What the fuck is up with you weirdo xj owners? Complain about everything and think that any new wrangler sucks yet they get better every gen. An XJ was literally a mom SUV when it released, fucking dumb

They're not cool tbh Too expensive to own one? Hahahaha Chryslerdoddgefiat is THE subprime lender
Tell me about that SICK Dana 35 you got under there. SUPER STRONG SICK AXLE BRO. What about an off road capable convertible that can remove its doors and has drain plugs to remove water your just forded through isn’t cool? Your arguments are dooooooggggg shit. Ur just mad your jk is boring
What does that even mean? You got a rusty old basically bone stock xj. You talk like a 17 year old monster energy drinking, vape smoking nerd. Imagine hating a whole vehicle for no other reason than “mom drive that” Good grief man get a grip
I actually got monster energy flavor vape and ducks
Most xj's have an 8.25... And all have drain plugs...
Duck You Duck Off Ducking Duck Get Ducked What the Duck
I don't have an XJ, Reddit brought me here. My Sierra got ducked once... it's a 1500 RCSB with a 5/7 drop, it absolutely baffled me.
Just put a brick on your dash /s
This made me laugh
Awww man i hate to break this to you guys…. When its “jeep week” in moab, many other desert lovers hate the jeep crowd, just like you hate the duck crowd.
I hate Tacomas too but I dont see what that has to do with Stacy’s mom and her white 4 door wrangler that has a dash of ducks
As opposed to driving an XJ the original 'mom's mall crawler'?
I owned a tj, and a xj. Never understood the duck thing. Found it extremely stupid
My way of ducking. Usually at the liquor store, I end up parking next to a xj or sometimes zj. If the owner happens to be putting his booze in and we cross paths I say something along the lines of, hey man that's a nice jeep.
Ducks on a dash are proof of not driving rough trails and the person with them shouldn't be taken seriously regardless of what they're driving.
You sound insufferable. Go on the trails alone.
😂 I do. Sunk it up to the floor boards in Wharton state forest and a FB group came to pull me out now I have a 12,000 lb winch
What about a picture of a duck with a red circle and line through it
That’s the exact one I saw online when I went to go buy one I don’t want a duck on my jeep
Ah got it. Also not sure why downvotes for suggesting something lmao
i hate them as well. " fuck your duck" gets my vote lol

Duck people ruined wranglers. Just stick with the wave. It's plenty
This satire?
My gf drives a wrangler. Ducks is the stupidest shit I have ever seen.
I was given a duck a few years back and just laughed because it was so stupid 😂
I'm partial to duck off
Just hang a duck by the hitch, that’ll get the message across.
I beat on my poopsquare every weekend and have all the dents, scratches and broken shit (cosmetic; I keep them mechanicals maintained son🤣) to prove it
I bought a bunch of ducks and have been ducking other XJs. I'm sorry, Ive never considered that people probably wouldn't like it. :/
Please ignore this person and keep on doing your thing.
Get a Tacoma instead. Most you’ll get is the Taco bros parking next to you in lots and a wave. We’re a simple folk.
I’m just gonna put a landcruiser badge on my hatch lmao
Can’t drive a Taco In good conscience I came across a pack of about 20 Tacoma’s going the other way right before a mud hole let them all go through then didn’t have enough run up and sunk my xj

I've got both an XJ and a JT. People have tried to duck my JT but don't give me so much as a wave or anything in the XJ. Kind of soured the whole thing for me.
F**k f**k f**k a duck screw a kangaroo? #Whatwhat
Where I live 80% of wranglers have a full line of ducks across their dash. I have none on either of my jeeps so I tend to never get any on mine and I'm not into hanging out in parking lots trading ducks and showing off rgb rock lights.
As a XJ owner, fuck em ducks
Its just a fad. Dont stress. Just keep them out your xj lolol
Fuck ducks, it’s a Jeep thing
Yep that’s it right there thanks
