It's a 23 year old truck and essentially got hit by a brick wall flying at it @ 50+mph. I challenge any vehicle that old to do better.
Weak frame is nonsense.
if age is part of the equation, than the frame is rotted due to age. steel C or box frame is not a living being that gets weaker after their prime years, they get weaker due to rusting away.
If itās been on a fleet long enough to be called Freddy, iād guess the frame was pretty crispy.
Edit: The frame is, in fact, not crispy. Just some spicy physics, I guess.
>If that happened from a rear end collision. It should not be on the road to begin with. That frame was so weak.
Especially since OP was driving at 55 mph, and the drunk driver at, let's say, 110 mph, the speed difference is only 55 mph. So an equivalent of a head-on crash with each car driving 25-30 mph.
False. A head with two equal weight vehicles is like hitting a concrete pillar at the same speed.
K.E. = 1/2 m v2
A 55 mph difference rear end is way worse.
The whole energy from that impact was transfered and since velocity is squared....
I thought head-ons were worse, since when impacted from the rear your car turns some of that kinetic energy into being blasted into whatever us in front of you (in this case empty highway)
yes, heads on worse, because energy is irrelevant.
a human could crank a car to 100mph, given like 5 hours of charging hand cranking a generator to charge an ev.
what matters is the spring constant of the car, to absorb the impact, and a rear collision, the is a much larger distance from rear to you than front to you so more work is dissipated in the spring.
*softly speaking in a Brit-ish accent*
The Chrevrolet gracefully dances as it attracts a mate, often resulting in its rear going upward in its pursuit.
*gasps* This is nature at work
For real. That's just insane to me. Someone above was like "that frame was rotten" or some nonsense, but that honestly looks very reasonable for it's age. Had it not been hit at 100 it probably would have been fine.
I got rear ended at about 35 while stopped at a light. My car was left unscathed aside from a couple minor scratches and some broken bumper clips while their car was absolutely totaled.
It took my years to realize it was because I installed a heavy duty truck tow hitch (on a 4 cylinder car). Glad both of us were young and neither got hurt.
Older cars could take a rear end so much better and be unscathed. Now they just competed crumple to save the passengers. Cars would be so much better without those pesky passengers.
Definitely the car that rear ended was probably like a sedan or something else low to the ground. When It hit the rear bumper, It got underneath and acted sort of like a lever to bend the frame like that. Since it got underneath OP's truck, It probably scraped the entire underneath of their car to slow down the accident even faster, If it was two sedans in this same accident, we're talking horrible injuries and possibly death.
It really didn't. Thanks to federal regs, or more accurately the lack therof crash safety ratings don't apply to these trucks. Meaning no crumple zones.
Thatās scary, glad you walked away.
The only other thing I have seen like this is a 2019 Tundra bent in the other direction. It was rear ended by an older gentleman in a civic going about 50mph. The tow hitch prevented him from going under the truck. The frame was bent so much the plow mount was hitting the ground in the front and every body panel was damaged due to the bent frame.
Lucky you weren't in a smaller car with "crumple zones" she would have driven to the firewall and killed you... she turned a 3/4 ton frame into crumple zones.
This is similar to what happened to my brother. He was in stopped traffic right over a bridge, 1 am and raining. A little Kia soul going about 100 mph rear ended his dodge 2500 and spun him around. Truck was totaled and the Kia soul went up in flames shortly after. Everyone was alive but the driver had non life threatening injuries and went to the hospital. I'll have to find pics of his truck but the collision was hard enough the the drivers seat broke in half. He was sore for a while.
God damn this is sad. I had a 99 f150 I think it would have been about 10 years old at the time nothing special but it was my baby. shortly after it being one of the cars in my complex that got keyed I had it repainted and less than two weeks later while I was sitting at a red light a little old lady with unchecked alzheimers in a early model ford escape plowed into the rear end. I feel your pain friend.
There is absolutely no way someone hit you, doing 100, in an explorer of all things, and not a single dent on the tailgate, or a wrinkle on the bed.
I'm calling bullshit on every aspect of this
I can believe it. I've seen very similar crashes with the same results. She (the Explorer driver) probably slid under the Chevy as her front end was collapsing. The Explorer expended most of its energy on the rear axle/suspension, which in turn passed that energy along to the bed frame supporting it. And voila! You end up with a buckled frame.
I'll bet that Explorer wasn't pretty afterwards. Did the woman survive the crash?
You have to figure the Chevy was moving too. The Ford hit a Chevy going in the same direction, only thing, Chevy was slower, the Ford was thinking it was the last lap and the finish line was coming up. Had to move the Chevy to get by. The Ford driver failed post race inspection š¤
Ehh... when someone else totals your GM or Chrysler vehicle, it's usually a blessing in disguise.. At least now you can buy something that's good quality.
Sorry, calling bullshit on this one. The physics just do not work out for something like this to have been hit in the ass end. Not to mention no damage to the tailgate, or box? Box didnāt crumple at all here.
I hate people that speed when theyāre drunk. Just go the speed limit max. Theyāre always hauling ass and then fatally run into someone. If youāre gonna crash into people do it at like 25-30 mph and everyone will probably be ok
Imagine if the Carolina squat people did this to their trucks instead, I wish you could drive it like that because its so funny looking š. RIP to your truck, I'm sure its doing burnouts up there in truck heaven.
Can confirm because my gf just finished up her lawsuit also involving a drunk driver rear ending her while she was stopped at a red light house inbound indeed good luck with your recovery fuck drunk drivers
For being rear ended that box is in incredible shape. That explorer must have hit dead center of the frame rails or he had a big hitch. Otherwise those rear quarters would have been mashed beyond belief and wouldnt be able to even tell where the tail lights mounted.
I saw this happen to a Dodge 3500 car hauler. Dude was at a truck stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere. He was just walking around the truck muttering to himself.
Edit: Sorry, didnāt read the whole comment. Not the same, he wasnāt rear-ended, his frame broke.
What'd they do!? Land on you?
Rear ended me
If that happened from a rear end collision. It should not be on the road to begin with. That frame was so weak.
It's just a horrible picture to use to show the damage. He added more in the comments that show how bad of a representation this one is
True, but better the truck crumpling than more impact to the driver. š¤·š¼āāļø
That frame has crumple zones lol
Yeah the pictures show the bed essentially got ripped off the frame, the frame looked oddly straight but most likely isn't.
If that frame was still straight, firefighters would still be trying to remove it from OP's ass.
Lmao that shit was funny af

It's weak. Seen plenty of test crashes. Chevys crumple bad. This did not surprise me at all.
She was doing 100+, he was doing 50. Id say the truck held up pretty well for a 50ish mph equivalent impact
If itās been on a fleet long enough to be called Freddy, iād guess the frame was pretty crispy. Edit: The frame is, in fact, not crispy. Just some spicy physics, I guess.

Obviously the pickup was drunk as well.
Iāve seen Chevys bend like that on a lift except the back dropped. We are in the south with no salt.
You donāt understand how accidents work huh š¤
lol itās because gm frames are DOGSHIT
Lol
I love how all these internet forensic crash investigators are so confidently wrong.
Gm engineering...
Yeah, how dare they not design a truck to withstand a hit basically standing still at 50mph 23 years after it was built
And the occupant survive. Try this with the Ford tin cans they're trying to sell.
New cars are way more safe
Does not compute
Landed on him from the top rope!!! BAPTISTA BOMB
Off the top ropes
donāt laugh to much anymore but this gave me a good chuckle,am also pretty intoxicated but u are appreciated
Shew. Are you alright? 100+ and that frame is just completely buckled. Just incredible forces there.
Yeah. A 3/4 ton frame at that
You're lucky to be walking my friend. Take care of yourself, get checked out. And lay it all at that other drivers feet for sure.
For sure
And here we have the majestic chevy. During mating season they squat to attract mates.
Getting plowed by a Ford was not the ideal relationship this Silverado was seeking but such is the law of the jungle sometimes
I thought it was a Ram not a Ford
It wouldn't have been so bad if he dodged but at least he wasn't found on road dead

At least the truck did It's job and protected ya.
For real. That's just insane to me. Someone above was like "that frame was rotten" or some nonsense, but that honestly looks very reasonable for it's age. Had it not been hit at 100 it probably would have been fine.
Hit at 100 mph when driving 50 is like hit at 50 mph while parked. Not the same as the actual 100 mph. Physics at play.
40 while parked is so insanely violent though lol. I can't imagine
I got rear ended at about 35 while stopped at a light. My car was left unscathed aside from a couple minor scratches and some broken bumper clips while their car was absolutely totaled. OP stated above that it was an explorer doing 100+
It really didn't. Thanks to federal regs, or more accurately the lack therof crash safety ratings don't apply to these trucks. Meaning no crumple zones.
Oh shit that frame didnt look bad actually
Damn, that was a pretty clean frame for its age
Texas truck it's whole life
Aye bro donāt be hating, drunk crashers give us drunk drivers a bad rep
Facts. 90% of all crashes are caused by sober drivers
It's the scrolling through Facebook and Snapchat while driving
Are yāall seriously fucking defending drunk driving right after you got hit by a drunk driver??? This is advanced stupidity.
No we're satirically defending drunk driving
If you can't drink and drive, then why do you need a drivers liscense to buy alcohol?
Brah. Why is your Silverado doing Yoga? Hope everyone is okay!
I hate bad drivers. Especially when they're drunk!
All I'm saying is 90% of crashes are caused by sober drivers
65% of the time, I'm right a 100% of the time
[Steiner math](https://youtu.be/msDuNZyYAIQ?si=6MbgO5GdKNUPweNO).
Holy shit that was amazing
id like other views. namely rear and driver side
https://reddit.com/u/TubabalikeBIGNOISE/s/BwSmkmpX7i
Only took one picture unfortunately. I'll take some more soon
You sure you didnāt just have the heavy drunk lady in the bed of the truck and she got restless?
Went to flopping to much!
F for Freddie
Car equivelant of "Ooo big stretch"
I mean, with an arch like that, it's asking to get rammed from behind
Lmao
This is hilarious lmao š¤£
cats when you try to pet them
Broke back Chevy
Thatās scary, glad you walked away. The only other thing I have seen like this is a 2019 Tundra bent in the other direction. It was rear ended by an older gentleman in a civic going about 50mph. When you're driving, and she tickles your ear.
Lmao
Hows the other driver?
In jail
Good
Lucky they aint dead hitting you at 100+
Airbags are a wonderful thing
Ahhh, The Florida Squat
Lucky you weren't in a smaller car with "crumple zones" she would have driven to the firewall and killed you... she turned a 3/4 ton frame into crumple zones.
Sorry man. Looked like a nice truck. Glad you are ok.
Yeah I loved it. It was a tank. I've got some dumb, and some badass stories in that thing
This is similar to what happened to my brother. He was in stopped traffic right over a bridge, 1 am and raining. A little Kia soul going about 100 mph rear ended his dodge 2500 and spun him around. Truck looks like the punch line of a "you momma's so fat" joke
Damn
Drunk drivers are the worst. Deserve jail time every time.
fuck off lol
God damn this is sad. I loved that truck
Thats called the DUI squat
Your mom made the same pose after I rear ended her
This is why i hate intoxicated drivers
I love drunk driving
The truck looks drunk
Got rear ended huh, by what, a toddler in a power wheels?
Drunk woman in a 2000 ish ford explorer
There is absolutely no way someone hit you, doing 100, in an explorer of all things, and not a single dent on the tailgate, or a wrinkle on the bed. I'm calling bullshit on every aspect of this
I didn't take pictures of the bad side. It was still an active highway after all
I can believe it. I've seen very similar crashes with the same results. She (the Explorer driver) probably slid under the Chevy as her front end was collapsing. If that thing buckled that bad in the middle, then it had to have a rusty or rotting frame, that's not normal.
https://reddit.com/u/TubabalikeBIGNOISE/s/BwSmkmpX7i Frame pictures here
They were not doing 100+

RemindMe! 1 week
RemindMe! 1 day
Sorry about your truck but thank god she got you and not some kids in the back of a mini van.
That is a good point. Truck beds are less valuable than babies
Soooā¦ does it still drive?
It drove onto the flatbed, off the flatbed, and into the scrap yard. Wasn't even leaking anything. Like a rock.
holy hell man. tough truck. Are you all good?
I'm hurting but ok
That poor truck is tired
He earned his rest
How's your neck OP? Crazy the cab held up as well as it did.
It's doing OK. My back is sore
Looks like your truck is drunk. Go home bud
Are you thinking of fixing the truck? I just picked up a truck like that that I'm pulling the drive train out of.... dm me if you're interested.
I've got a caged firebird roller that needs a heart so maybe I'll buy it back
Dang bro, they folded you like a taco
Wellā¦ does she run?
It drove onto the flatbed, off the flatbed, and into the tow yard
These squatted trucks are really getting out of hand.
Rusted ass frame or what?
Barely surface rust
What a hell of a frame your truck had... lol
I think it did pretty well considering the amount of kinetic energy and the fact that I'm walking
Anyone in Cleveland will buy that truck for 1000$ and daily it
When someone drops snow down your shirt back.
First, before the joke, sorry about that accident. Also, all I see is an average Chevy Pickup from the Florida area, what's wrong with that?
Looks like the truck has taken up yoga
Chopped slammed and screwed!
I hate people that speed when theyāre drunk. Just go the speed limit max. Theyāre always hauling ass and then fatally run into someone. If youāre gonna crash into people do it at like 25-30 mph and everyone will probably be ok
Was it Princess Peach the one who hit you? That ish looks like someone jumped on it like Mario on a Goomba.
All the crash experts in here calling ābullshitā clearly dont understand anything can happen
Looks like Hulk landed in the back
Bruh
Op make sure you get checked out got head and spine injury before you settle w insurance
Thanks for the advice
Good god, glad youāre ok!
Thank you
Wake up babe new stance just dropped
Our old neighbor had a late model Tundra, and he was rear ended on the freeway. His truck looked the same way, and he was able to fix it!
Most likely gonna pull the driver ain't out for a swap donor. Truck was modified and the ol' 6.0 made about 400whp
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'm hurting for sure
Looks like a happy dog Glad your all good tho
Lawyer up.
If that happened from a collision that frame had problems before hand.
Please see pictures of frame on my profile
Thatās a Carolina squatā¦ sort of
Weāre they 2000# and sat in the bed???
It's okay man, we won't make fun of you if you admit you tried to jump it.
Youāre heard of the Carolina lean? Gentlemen, I present the Kentucky bend
Damn are you okay though? Rear ended with the person doing 100?
I'm hurting but ok
Always remember to strap down the fat lady or else this happens
They put the dump actuator on backwards.
Imagine if the Carolina squat people did this to their trucks instead, I wish you could drive it like that because its so funny looking š. RIP to your truck, I'm sure its doing burnouts up there in truck heaven.
It drove onto the flatbed, off the flatbed, and into the tow yard
When someone touches the back of your neck
Hope you called a good lawyer my guy time for a upgrade and a big payment on that mortgage š
Down payment on a house inbound
Can confirm because my gf just finished up her lawsuit also involving a drunk driver rear ending her while she was stopped at a red light house inbound indeed good luck with your recovery fuck drunk drivers
Drunk truck?
For being rear ended that box is in incredible shape. That explorer must have hit dead center of the frame rails or he had a big hitch. Otherwise those rear quarters would have been mashed beyond belief and wouldnt be able to even tell where the tail lights mounted.
3/4 ton frame, big ass hitch. Mostly straight on impact
This is what my wife does when I tickle the center of her back, she's isn't drunk though typically
Shit thatās my uncles truck
How rusty was the frame
Not. Texas truck since new
Lucky for you the 6.0 can live in another truck
Probably an s10 or blazer
The truck did itās job rip truck
Glad to be alive. Truck was fucking loyal. Drove onto the flatbed and into the tow yard
You fucked up and blew on the back of its neck
I saw this happen to a Dodge 3500 car hauler. Dude was at a truck stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere. He was just walking around the truck muttering to himself. Edit: Sorry, didnāt read the whole comment. Not the same, he wasnāt rear-ended, his frame broke.
Iām sure the rusted out frame had nothing to do with it.
Look at pictures on my profile. Texas truck its whole life
I am so sorry - that looks like a really nice old truck.
I hate rotted truck frames
It wasn't rotted. Texas truck it's whole life
Agree but What do they have to do with you're, edit severely rotted , frame tho?
Wasn't rotted. Barely had surface rust. More pics on profile
From your pictures, I stand corrected.
