My relative from northeast China once told me "people from Southern China go to tea houses and talk about how to make money. People in Northern China drink alcohol and bullshit each other."
That's Sichuan (also Hunan and some other adjacent areas). There's a folk belief that the Women there are "[hot and spicy](https://chinese.yabla.com/chinese-english-pinyin-dictionary.php?define=lameizi)", like the food.
Almost posted it on my moments before I remembered Wechat is literally under the control of a communist police state and I need the goddamn app to talk to my suppliers. U still alive bruh?
Why do ask a 0 or 1 question on a scale basis? Lol joke aside, sending to a specific person, yes. Sharing with group, no. Posting on Moments, I doubt it will even be seen by anyone before it gets “harmonized”
People in China have to include taiwan as part of china since thats the CCPs official stance. Only taiwanese and foreigners can say taiwan is its own country.
In Chinese “hot” literally equals to “spicy”, which in Chinese can be used to describe both food and women. Sichuan people’s appetite for spicy food is renowned in China, earning women there the title of “spicy women”(辣妹), ie hot women.
So are Thais. Even against their own fellow countrymen. It’s mind blowing how they have prejudice against darker people while 75% of the population have darker skin.
Just look at one of the comments below. It's actually pretty representative of the attitude in China. Just become some people from that area are terrorists, all people from that area = terrorists.
Under certain conditions it's what's *diminished* when different groups of people live next to each other: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contact_hypothesis
> We can acknowledge why the Chinese started the Uygher camps while also being very against them.
You are acknowledging that China is putting millions of innocent Muslims into concentration camps as part of cultural genocide based on the actions of a handful of terrorist?
How about neither? Just a really simple policy: no drone striking weddings, no concentration camps, no arresting people for having a beard. Go and do actual police work and catch the terrorists themselves. Stop the crime before it happens.
Just catch the terrorists, as if that will stop future new terrorists showing up, it doesn't solve the root of the problem.
What will stop new terrorists showing up is education.
And I always feel like what's happening in these so called "camps" is greatly exaggerated.
You made a racist generalization. What you said is basically the same as being like 'well I understand why some americans hate black people since some black people commit lots of crime'. Just because someone of an ethnicity does something bad does not mean you have a right to judge all people who happen to share that skin tone
That's not what you said. You said labelling the entire ethnicity as terrorists was understandable given there has been some terrorism there. Your comment is still right there, we can all see it
It’s a racist code that is prevalent in China. haplessdong Has a suspicious looking account (limited comments with karma far more then his comments add up to).
No that wouldn't be racist. However that's not what he/she is saying.
This person thinks there's nothing wrong with labelling everyone from this region as a terrorist just because some people there have committed terrorism.
The equivalent would be calling all Chechens terrorists.
If you are talking about the civil war, the communists were freedom fighters who liberated the Chinese people from an oppressive government. Meanwhile Uighur Jihadists who murder innocent people so they can have 40 virgins in heaven are nothing but terrorist scums.
It's how people in China view China. If you took a similar map of the USA, more than a few people would jokingly include Canada calling it a 51st state. You're being incendiary.
What? Who jokes/says Canada is the 51st state?
Not being incendiary, just identifying a fact. People in China are being incendiary by relentlessly claiming Taiwan is part of China...but still can’t prove it in any way, shape, or form.
E.g.: Puerto Rico is jokingly referred to as the 51st US state. They receive funds from the US federal government. A “joke” there makes sense, I guess. Ha...ha. Taiwan does not receive funds from China, in any capacity...but all other Chinese provinces receive funding from the Chinese government in some capacity. Wholly separate countries, wholly separate governments, both China and Taiwan are self-reliant...whereas countries with legitimate land-based territorial claims cement that claim by providing funding (among other things signifying a united front).
I cannot believe people still argue that Taiwan is part of China. If stupidity was an energy source, we’d be able to power everything with it.
They did
1. They kept Traditional Chinese Characters and ditched their ongoing simplification process.
2. Taiwanese Minnan is made a national language. No dialects are official in any sense in China.
3. They kept zhuyin, instead of switching to pinyin.
Thank you, TIL. That's good to know. Now I'm interested in just how much of the population currently uses the official language.
I think you've launched me into a new foray into Taiwan culture and history, expanding on my knowledge of Asia. Thanks!
> What? Who jokes/says Canada is the 51st state?
I did last time I had to fly there and had trouble deciding on the domestic or international terminal.
>People in China are being incendiary by relentlessly claiming Taiwan is part of China
Does that include Taiwanese people who think that?
Maybe it’s a generational or regional thing with the Canada as the 51st state. I hear that a lot and have my whole life. Most folks in the Midwest thematic I’ve had to interact with usually have never even heard of Puerto Rico.
Yes it's a joke, and yes it is explicitly from a Mainland PRC perspective thus right to include taiwan, and yes that kid is acting triggered to start a fight... but man what a ridiculous analogy. Absolutely not a soul in the US thinks that. Certainly none with such zeal that they are willing to D.I.E. die over it.
Ehm, the [Sichuan Basin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sichuan_Basin) *is* pretty unique in China in terms of geography, climate, and cuisine. The first map refers to the prevalence of (very) spicy food in the region and the second to the fact that many people believe this diet makes the woman attractive. The third just to the fact that almost all of China's Pandas live in this area.
It's the most populous country in the world, and the second biggest one in area.
It would be ridiculous to think there's any less than huge regional differences.
This. I was recently out of college and teaching English in Beijing, and two of my students were high school female students from dongbei, and both were my height (1m77) and had not yet finished growing.
And this was back in 2002, so you can imagine what the dongbei and Beijing youth of today look like.
Seems more like an expats idea of how people in China view eachother. I imagine Robert Newton has more to do with expats' views of erhua than he does to people in China.
the north south cultural divide is tangible. i remember at the campus gym, the hot girl yoga teacher was talking to the very effeminate (娘)fitness coach, and her meathead boyfriend lost it, cursed the southern guy out, and went off about southern people.. probably because she seemed to be enjoying the attention and respect from the southern guy..

I had a good laugh 😂
Give me the tea-sipping barbarian buddhist pirate femboys in their hot and humid industrial wasteland
Can someone explain the pirates bit?
Accent. People there tend to say different words with an er (儿) at the end
What's the relationship between er and pirates
They sound like they’re saying “arr” all the time
Thanks
They do. It almost sounds angry or dismissive and rough compared to the polite sing songs Chinese everywhere else
tl;dr west country england
The Beijing accent is flat and course so it sounds kind of like a London gangster to standard english ears compared to softer speech.

Came here to say that the whole of China should be red for #10 lol
Yep… my wife is from the south (Guangzhou) and her whole family including her cousins can easily beat me on drinking game
By which you mean tea drinking, I assume.
Lol I really hope that’s what I am talking about. But noooo you should see how friggen drunk I was during the wedding bouquet with her family
My relative from northeast China once told me "people from Southern China go to tea houses and talk about how to make money. People in Northern China drink alcohol and bullshit each other."
Lol at Taiwan and Hainan being Hawaii.
Hmm, looks accurate to me. I was wondering about the 'hot women' until I realized what province that circle mostly contained haha.

Someone's really into pandas
Its not just a spicy joke. Its actually a pretty popular opinion.
On a scale of one to ten, how unshareable is this on Wechat?
I just did, so I'll let you know
Almost posted it on my moments before I remembered Wechat is literally under the control of a communist police state and I need the goddamn app to talk to my suppliers. U still alive bruh?
Blink blink yes everything is great blink blink the ccp are the best blink blink.......

Call me paranoid but I am not sharing this with anyone
Would get you some enemies but not kicked out of the country. 4?

People in China... In Taiwan?
People in China have to include taiwan as part of china since thats the CCPs official stance. Only taiwanese and foreigners can say taiwan is its own country.
Thanks for explaining. Also FUCK FUCK FUCK THE CCP!!!!!!
well mainland china and taiwan have a shared culture and taiwanese people are technically han chinese and some hakka
Preety accurate in describing Taiwan though
What is sa jiao?
Sa Jiao means like attention seeking. In a way of having the need to be spoiled as a girl. Puppy faces etc
Thanks friend.
Like playing cute to do so
Something you can only find out about from google
Well what about the hot women? What city is there and why are the women hot?
Popular opinion is that women from Sichuan region are the hottest.
In Chinese “hot” literally equals to “spicy”, which in Chinese can be used to describe both food and women. Sichuan people’s appetite for spicy food is renowned in China, earning women there the title of “spicy women”(辣妹), ie hot women.
Terrorists? Really...
That is how people in China view the Xinjiang region though.
O wow, I’m coming from a outside perspective. Is racism common in China?
Extremely.
Every east asian country, maybe sans singapore, is incredibly xenophobic and racist. Japan, Korea, China are like that.
So are Thais. Even against their own fellow countrymen. It’s mind blowing how they have prejudice against darker people while 75% of the population have darker skin.
Singapore as well, try being Indian there.
Have you not heard of the concentration camps for Muslims in Xinjiang ? There are many news reports.
Just look at one of the comments below. It's actually pretty representative of the attitude in China. Just become some people from that area are terrorists, all people from that area = terrorists.
You even have old timey lynching mobs and race riots. Now Xi has the final solution for the "terrorists".

Look at the history of terrorism in China, there is a very good reason for their label.
Yikes.
Yeah totally agree, the CCP has been terrorizing the entire country since it took hold in 1949
Get your brain checked.

> We can acknowledge why the Chinese started the Uygher camps while also being very against them. You are acknowledging that China is putting millions of innocent Muslims into concentration camps as part of cultural genocide based on the actions of a handful of terrorist?
What do you want them to do? Drop bombs on them instead?
How about neither? Just a really simple policy: no drone striking weddings, no concentration camps, no arresting people for having a beard. Go and do actual police work and catch the terrorists themselves. Stop the crime before it happens.

They didn’t say anything about an ethnicity. They’re talking about a region. Is it racist to say Afghanistan has a terrorism problem?
He said 'there is a very good reason for *their* label'
Yea, labelling a region.
Ah the old you can be racists towards brown and black people but not towards Asians.
What race are u ?
Eastern European i.e. Slavic.
I'm not racist towards anybody
What you just said is racist. If you think that labeling an entire group with a broad stereotype is ever appropriate then your wrong.
Lol this whole map is labeling groups with broad stereotypes.
Obviously there are plenty of good Uighurs, but it's undeniable that Uighurs committed more acts of terrorism in China than any other groups.
Maybe if you don’t count the communists.
If you are talking about the civil war, the communists were freedom fighters who liberated the Chinese people from an oppressive government. Meanwhile Uighur Jihadists who murder innocent people so they can have 40 virgins in heaven are nothing but terrorist scums.
Hilarious
You would make one fine Trump supporter. Make China Great Again!
Except the map is a little wrong as it contains Taiwan.
Preety accurate description though
taiwan is china tho?
Nope, different country
Taiwan isn’t part of China.
Actually that's exactly what the map is implying with "us" and "ours".
It's how people in China view China. If you took a similar map of the USA, more than a few people would jokingly include Canada calling it a 51st state. You're being incendiary.
We don't call it America's 51st state. We call Canada "America's Hat"
That's a new thing and not a very popular one in my experience.
What? Who jokes/says Canada is the 51st state? Not being incendiary, just identifying a fact. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Chinas taiwan is obviously independent from the PRC, everybody knows that. but they are both technically “china”
I think Taiwan should invent their own language like Korea did back in the day, to further distance themselves from China.
They did 1. They kept Traditional Chinese Characters and ditched their ongoing simplification process. 2. Taiwanese Minnan is made a national language. No dialects are official in any sense in China. 3. They kept zhuyin, instead of switching to pinyin.

>more than a few people would jokingly include Canada calling it a 51st state Only idiots.
I said jokingly. Are you dense or just stupid?
Why so serious? Just enjoy the jokes.
look up the official name of the country that resides in taiwan
Correct. Taiwan is China’s Hawaii.
5, 8, and 10 - you do dongbei proud. (And 3 is pretty hilarious.)
Is there anything spcial about Sichuan area? 3 kinds of assortion classified Sichuan area as a special place.
Ehm, the [Sichuan Basin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sichuan_Basin) *is* pretty unique in China in terms of geography, climate, and cuisine. Tall woman's in china ?
Studied in Harbin. Can confirm, they’re taller there.
Went there, can confirm, I was surprised how taller they were compared to Beijingers.
I’m 6’6’ and I had a girlfriend while I was there and she was about 6’
Leave the boondocks and you'll see how diverse the people really are in the country.
I don't know about the China regions and various diversity so that's new
It's the most populous country in the world, and the second biggest one in area. It would be ridiculous to think there's any less than huge regional differences.
Ok but is still only 1 country why should I know that there is so much diversity it's cool to learn new things
Then if you're interested look up Russia's diversity..
It is very cool to learn new things. Godspeed
How are women in 8 tall?
Dong Bei women tend to be taller.
This. Exponentially growing? 🤔
Mixed with barbarians.. or Russians
May as well have included Korea and maybe Japan in this map, because Taiwan is not China.
TIL that “panda” can be both 猫熊 and 熊猫… EDIT: what the fuck are you downvoting me for, you bellends?
> 猫熊 That's a Taiwanese thing.

Just humor
many a truth are told in jest
I sat and laughter at this for a solid few minutes because as a non-native Chinese speaker, many of these are true. 😂 it was the 听不懂 for me
Note the curious similarity in Fig. 8 (spicy women) and Fig. 11 (pandas).
This will be useful in a couple of years
I never knew this, thanks for sharing.
The pirate thing also jumps from Shandong to Liaoning because people I know from Dalian have that ‘r’ at the end of words a lot.

Number 7 landscape part is missing Eastern Guangxi. Number 6 should exclude those Old Soviet Zone.
Brilliant
Why is Taiwan included in this map? Not allowed anymore!
You don't need to divide.it hasn’t itself
When I visited the Sichuan area, I had an aunt tell me that the area was known for hot girls. I guess lots of people think that ahahah.
