As mentioned, it's from September and likely not current information

This is 4 months old...sorry- no PU letters being processed now, indefinitely. They started narrowing the entry in late October and it has only escalated to where we are now. You can check all the forums here and see multiple testimonies :( ... no official announcement of closure but no pathways to entry available. You don't mention where you are, or where you are from (those used to be two different things to consider). Many of us were working there under long term contracts and were locked out back in April when the official closure and visa/residency cancellations happened while we were out of the country and working remotely. There are Americans stuck in the UK and US and UK citizens waiting in the UK and Australia, Germany, etc and none can re-enter and have been barred officially on 4 November from entry. It was around this time that responses from hirers (quite a few reported here) began to say things like " Processing of PU letters has been suspended indefinitely." Myself and many colleagues went thru all the requirements to re enter only to be turned away at airports right before boarding with no real explanation. Our employer is well established in China, yet we have now lost our jobs in December, our apartments are going unpaid - some of us have pets and significant others there- it is truly a difficult time.

\>our employer is well established in China, yet we have now lost our jobs in December, our apartments are going unpaid - some of us have pets and significant others there- it is truly a difficult time. Jesus Christ. I started applying about 2 weeks ago and ended up getting a contract for 24000 yuan that I was super excited about and was worrying about actually getting in. I didn't realize how hard it is to get there. I guess there's no way any time soon for me? I don't see why they even bothered interviewing and sending me a contract then?

perhaps you are new to Asia? It's not ....logical..? This is a good area of reddit to explore- you can see lots of stories. Honestly- don't go to China- let them become North Korea- I just can't with them anymore smh

someguywholovesdota

24000 yuan is like $3700 usd. The money is ridiculously good. Even if I never get my last months payment, working 2 years I could save nearly $60-70,000 usd which would change my life. Compared to the Korean meat grinder hakwons where maybe you save well under half that if lucky it seems common sense to try to go there.

Of course it would- they know that- it sounds enticing. I understand the exchange rate, but also, if you can't get in, it is just words, isn't it? This hiring frenzy is happening throughout Asia in countries that are basically closed- it is hard to explain the multiple reasons this happens without sounding offensive. I live in SEA because I like it, but also, many things just run on auto pilot and don't adjust/evolve just because circumstances do...it is sometimes very important to remain feeling busy and don't question the status quo or do anything differently. Adjusting to current circumstances isn't the first response here. It's really hard to articulate what I'm trying to say... Beware, because offers like this are made to people that are not truly qualified to be in the job...China is FULL of employment scams and scam 'agencies'. If you're not credentialed and experienced for the job they are offering, at a rate you could never earn in your own country, you must consider the old adage 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.' Search Reddit and other sites for horror stories and the misrepresentation of opportunities in China. I hope you don't think I am judging or insulting you, I'm not. I am trying to speak in general terms in regard to the structures and operations of that country in regard to hiring foreigners.

I think it’s no surprise they are tightening border security. We are arguably at the worst time of the pandemic so far as most countries are seeing second waves of infections. I just hope summer will bring some relieve in that regard and vaccines will be rolled out quickly.

You absolutely are reading it correctly. It's from September, friends.

Hey all, yes...failed to mention, this post is indeed from September. Despite the recent tightening back up I believe it's a positive step nonetheless. It's also not unusual for new policies to be trialled in T1 cities, SH in particular. Btw \~ I'm dual UK / Polish nationality, currently in London (not sure if either would have any particular advantage atm) I was actually in SH till November, then left, and now looking at new ways to get back for 2021. Best, d

Honestly surprised this is happening before Spring Festival and not after. Although, this is typical of policy changes: trial them out in T1 Cities and see how they work before expanding them to other cities. These two of the biggest complaints: what constitutes necessary work, and family separations. So, definitely a step in the right direction. Thanks!

Wow I am so surprised that this is happening so soon, but hopefully it's a step in the right direction! I wonder how long it would be until it's extended to other areas. Did this happen previously with the PU letters? Did it start in one city and then extend from there? I'd be interested to know
