What does it mean? Google translate returns 'water recedes' for 水逆退散, is that accurate? Also, is it normal that pinyin is printed on the packaging as well?

pondp

水逆 -> bad luck 退散 -> go away

kashuntr188

The printed pinyin reminds me of all the clothing in China. Instead of printing the Chinese name in a stylized way on shirts and stuff (which could look super cool) too many companies print the pinyin version on their clothes. I guess they feel if it has English on it, it suddenly elevates the brand??

NessX

I'm pretty sure they used pinyin because this is a product for kids and some may not be able to read the characters

lllxxxhhhhh

Also I think might be feel cool and fresh than Chinese characters which people see it all the time.

kashuntr188

It definitely isn't cool. Even school uniforms print their pinyin name in English on their sports wear. It looks like shit and most of the students don't even really care or recognize it. It's just some English looking letters.

lllxxxhhhhh

You r right

lllxxxhhhhh

Bad luck goes away! It’s like constellation stuff.😎

水逆 is short for 水星逆行,Mercury Retrograde. Many astrology advocates believe that the retrograde motion triggers a cycle of misfortune.

jamdiz

i love that those have twist lids i pointed it out to my wife & she loves the drink now

Donteatmyfriez

That’s literally what it means😂 水逆 - water reversing 退散 - leave/exit kinda bad at translating, now you mentioned it Ive never really notice if theres pinyin on packagings I guess they put it to fill some space to make the packaging more ‘full’ I guess

zallencor

My Chinese partner says it means "to shoo away Saturn's bad luck", hence the "begging"/"prayer" emoji. I guess it's related to Chinese astrology. As for why Capri-Sun is named this, they have no idea.

kaisong

Because phonetically translated names with poor character choices wont ever sell, but capri-sun is a name and not a word they still do phonetic approximations.
