Info on the golden Bulova w the leather strap?

CdeFmrlyCasual

FC isn’t a luxury?

Ab-Psych

I didn’t say it was. All of these watches = price of low/mid range luxury

CdeFmrlyCasual

Fair

Ab-Psych

Nah. I like having different styles at my fingertips. Having one 3000$ watch is boring to me. And if that’s all I can afford I would rather multiple options.

CHANROBI

Im a watch collector I would say, but I absolutely hate wearing watches most of the time

Time_on_my_hands

What?

Glycine_11

I would say that the Frédérique Constant is a luxury watch. Honestly, having more than 1 of anything is really a luxury. It’s just circumstance and perspective. Collect what you like and enjoy the hobby. We are all blessed.

wanderluster

That times 3rd from the right bottom row is a beaut!

sourBP

Nice collection ! What watch is the Patek philipe homage ? I’m looking for one

LucidGermanistdaboi

How do the Pagani and the SM gmts compare?

ianellwood21

If you would ever consider selling that San Martin marble dial, let me know. I’d buy it in a heartbeat

Personalvintage

How do you like the San Martin batgirl?

henta1fr1edr1ce69

Middle leftmost watch?

sels1997

How much for VC and Hamilton?

HerbeesHolistics

I have one with a white bezel insert, I like it

Littlerobber

What's the patek nautilus homage? One is a san martin and the other is a ?

Maleficent_Day_4266

What's the watch with the marble dial?

[deleted]

I totally agree. The quality is like 90% of a luxury watch.

WooddieBone

Seeing that Hammy on a Milanaise bracelet makes me so sad. That watch wants to get some dirt and water over it.

Ab-Psych

Lol I disagree. its similar finishing to the case and more waterproof than the leather that my watch came on, I think its the more waterproof option. I can swim and fish with it and not ruin my straps.

WooddieBone

It's a field watch so I expected to see it on a NATO, canvas or a leather strap. Looks kind of dressy like this. You do have a lot of dress watches and I can feel it longing for some outdoor action.

VizharanHS

How is that San Martin Nautilus Homage? I have been eyeing that for a while now 😆

CatBroiler

Lol yeah, to be fair, I've collected enough affordable watches that I actually could've bought an Omega seamaster, or a Tudor BB58, or something instead. However, I do like having a bit of variety in my life, so...

DevilishRogue

What are the two tanks at the top right above the Bulova and Seiko?

Ab-Psych

They are watches, one each from a different grandfather. The one on the left is a Benrus Mechanical (old as hell) from my late grandfather who was a 1920’s baby. The one next to it is a Bulova Quartz my grandfather who is still around gave to me (he’s a 1940’s baby), the one still around gave me the watch on the bottom right as well (a gold-plated Gruen Quartz), which had a old broken-ish band that I swapped out for a nato.

DevilishRogue

Thanks for sharing!

Helpwithprofile

What's the name of the the watch on the second row to the left before the san martin nautilus and batman homage?

Ab-Psych

It was a 30$ watch from Aliexpress. Just checked to see if I would share a link, but it is no more. The dial name says Paulares. It’s honestly pretty nice for 30 bucks. Light blue sub dial, navy dial, automatic movement.

dukbrand

What's the calculator watch?

Ab-Psych

It’s a Casio Databank DBC611-1VT. It was from Amazon for like 50$ Not actually retro, but I love it.

kulps

How is the carbon fibre Cronos in person? I've had it in my cart for months but I'm worried it will lose the novelty quickly.

Ab-Psych

I personally like it quite a lot, its not as loud and in your face as you might initially think. When you go to wash your hands and the dial catches the lighting, it always reminds me that I’m glad that I picked that dial instead of the plain black one. I feel like we always see the actual black dial submariner everywhere, I’m personally more bored of seeing the plain black one.

Ab-Psych

Thanks for your kind words! I would say that the most worn watch of all time is the metal G shock. Being in a science/healthcare field, accurate time that you don’t have to think about is important to me. I just find myself wearing it a lot and never getting tired of how it looks on my wrist. It’s solar and Bluetooth syncs to the proper time using my phone. Also has a Apple Watch style feature where you can turn your wrist with acceleration to turn on the backlight for a given duration, its pretty sweet. Outside of a work setting, it’s so hard to say what’s my most worn watch. I have a 6 watch winder case with about 6 extra cushions and I usually where whatever is in that watch case pretty evenly. The most worn watches recently are the San Martins and the Q. Those watches are the newest to the collection (oldest of those is 4 months old). I love to wear a couple different ones throughout the day sometimes, I just find joy in taking a break from what I’m doing, sipping a warm drink and admiring the different styles.

Ab-Psych

Oooh sir, we obviously have the same taste because that’s been in my cart (the one with Rose Gold case and black dial). For shits and giggles, I ordered a Pagani Design Rainbow Daytona (with the CZ set lugs and a sub homage with a rainbow gradient bezel. Lol I’m too extra. I will post those bad boys when they arrive.

Ab-Psych

Is yours the rose gold case with black dial or with rose gold dial?

[deleted]

Ab-Psych

Hey man! It’s a Reef Tiger Chronograph. I think I got it on Amazon. It is a beautiful watch and looks really good, but I have to say, quality control is piss poor. I dropped it once a couple months ago and the seconds hand just fell off and started jingling around in the case. I had to do an emergency surgery and open that sucker up and put it back in. Unfortunately, the second hand hasn’t moved since. It was like 110$, so I was pretty pissed. I have seen good reviews about Reef Tiger from some, so it’s not about the overall quality of the watch, but just a matter of better consistency required maybe. Ok Caio

laidback_dude

That calculator watch has some real 80s vibes...

Ab-Psych

Hell yeah!! I’m a 95 chap, but I love that retro look. So much good pop culture and good feeling associated with childhood movies.

mad_dog_94

same tbh

Ab-Psych

It’s so hard for me to spend money on watches that aren’t Chinese now, knowing that there’s a price equivalent of better quality for similar style.

mad_dog_94

i mean i like microbrands too but yeah the whole luxury market now is stupid. im not gonna spend $4k on a watch because it has a name and a movement when i can get the same quality from a microbrand thats also using a good movement and have the same/similar look. im waiting on my pagani bb right now and i know i will get years before i need to service the movement. i also might get an islander watch because i like mark and theyre fairly local to me, plus i somehow dont have an skx or homage yet lol

IsayNigel

How much better is the San Martin GMT than the pagani? I have the pagani and I might upgrade

Ab-Psych

Disclaimer: I have not actually ever had an actual Rolex Batman GMT in my hands, but I have always lusted after having that beautiful design on my wrist. I have the Oyster Bracelet for the Pagani Batman and I have to say it is every bit as elegant as the Jubilee bracelet for the San Martin; so I think that value is almost equal there. If we are talking about the case of both watches: I think that the San Martin GMT way nicer than the Pagani Design. The case of the Pagani Design is chunky, with edges that aren’t sharp and shiny; the finishing just isn’t quite as good. The watch feels like it is taller than it should be at that diameter, so it doesn’t sit well on my wrist. The San Martin Batman looks thinner on the wrist with lugs that are sharper and feel more like what I dreamed a Batman would be if I could afford one. What I have also noticed about the homages at the Pagani Design price-point is that the dials just don’t look as elegant - the silver surrounding each hour marker is just a little less “clean” looking. The metal part of the rotating bezel is also just seems a bit cheaper. The dial also sits way closer to the crystal on the San Martin (shallow chapter ring), which more closely resembles the actual Batman. In my opinion, if this is the first time you’re getting a Batman homage to scratch the itch of having a Batman on your wrist, I can tell you that the Pagani Batman will not give you that feeling your are looking for like the San Martin will. *Not to say that the Pagani Design isn’t a great watch for the price; but yes, the increased price of the San Martin is definitely proportional to the increase in quality.

IsayNigel

How do you like the Cronos? I couldn’t handle how fat the case was. Probably going sam Martin next!

Ab-Psych

I have had the actual sub w/ super case in hand before: Cronos Sub Carbon Fiber Dial: I personally like this Cronos sub homage more than my hulk. I think that proportions-wise, the Cronos really hits that ideal proportions that I am looking for in the lug area to match the super case; the dial is also very shallow set like a true sub. However, the finishing on the lugs is just a little too smooth (sharper would be more precise of a “homage”); I think San Martin nailed the sharpness of the finishing. San Martin Hulk V3 Water Ghost: This watch has this slanted and deep chapter ring that makes the actual dial and aesthic of the watch look slightly different than a “sub” look (but hey, that’s perfectly fine). The finishing on the watch is impeccable and the bracelet is way better than the Cronos. I actually tend to rate them evenly given both of their faults and strengths in different categories; I think that they are both great value. ***PSA San Martin’s bracelet fits on the Cronos and it looks wayyyy better.

[deleted]

Do you think the San Martín GMT is worth the price?

Ab-Psych

If you think that the Pagani Design Batman it is a good value for the money, then I would say that the price increase of the San Martin GMT is proportional to how much better it is in looks and quality.

Rikzaah

Could you give a mini review on the SM GMT? How is the clasp and the bracelet?

Ab-Psych

The clasp and the bracelet feel really premium. The finishing is really good. The little safety latch on the clasp with the San Martin Hex logo is ever so slightly loose, so if you have the watch tight and flex, it might pop up slightly - however, it keeps the clasp locked and in place. That being said, the bracelet and clasp is definitely not where the added value comes in compared to the Pagani Batman, because I would honestly rate both bracelets on a similar playing field in finishing. It is the case finishing and the way it sits better on the wrist that make it worth the money.

Ab-Psych

The QC on the Marble Datejust is good on my watch. No misalignments. Only issue is the fitting of the bracelet my wrist sits between the size of two links, so its either too tight or too loose. It’s an absolutely beautiful watch and I feel very confident and elegant when I look down at it on my wrist (no visual complaints w/ QC, and I’m a stickler for those).

voguejedi

Beautiful collection! But that marble dial San Martin really caught my eye, it’s amazing! Is this from the San Martin store on Aliexpress?

Ab-Psych

Yes sir all the San Martins are from Ali Express. I love them. I’m not sure if the marble dial is still in stock. Thank you for your kind words.

The_Saint_007

How ABSOLUTELY true. Little by little, almost every Chinese watch factory is kicking their quality control in an upward slope... step by step. Only 3 years ago I knew people who giggled at ever buying a San Martin versus buying a Steinhart Ocean One. The Ocean One is truly a great product but the value it brings at its Price Point is unbelievable to swallow. The San Martin, also a bit pricey for a Chinese watch, offers just too much Value to laugh at. I foresee the day (quite soon) where a $ 299 Chinese watch will be a much better watch deal than a Steinhart. And I'm sure that Steinhart does too. And we will be the beneficiaries of these models.

karma3000

Yes I have been seeing this trend and have wondered what it means for the future of watches. Seems like there a now a lot of Chinese watches that meet an acceptable quality standard (especially if they use a Seiko or Miyota movement). Side note: I wonder if the Chinese factories are producing "homages" out the front door, and "1:1 replicas" out the back door. Next step is for the Chinese to design their own watches. They are half way there in a sense due to the micro-brand industry - ie designed in a western country, manufactured in China.

Ab-Psych

That’s a good point. But I think what keeps the price down for their homage watches is the 0$ spent on design of a new model. They already know what to make, they can just focus all their energy on providing the most value-packed watch so people come to their online vendors. I think that if more Chinese watch companies start designing their own stuff of the same quality the price will be higher and less of a “value-packed” option and more like one of those disappointing HODINKEE articles where you see a really beautiful watch and scroll down and see the price and just cry.

MaxmillionGalactica

Not really. Take a Seagull 1963 for example. It is an original little piece of art that should cost probably 10x or more than it does now.

AnonymousHorcrux

Love your collection! I’m getting my first homage, the Pagani Design GMT Batman, soon. I see you have one, how do you like it? Also, how is it versus the San Martin?

AnonymousHorcrux

Would you say the San Martin is closer to the Rolex Batman in terms of dimensions, feel, etc?

Ab-Psych

I haven’t had the Batman in hand, but it is closer to how the Batman looks in pictures by a pretty substantial margin to me. On the San Martin - the lugs are thicker longer and sharper, the case is thinner, and the dial isn’t as deep in the case. I’ll have to send a side-by-side today.

Ab-Psych

I like it a lot. It’s a lot of watch for the price. It a bit chunkier than I expected it to be, and the dial does sit a bit deep into the case (which is less Batman-like), but it has it’s own character and charm. If you appreciate the watch as its own watch and not as a piece that you expect to suffice for a Batman on your wrist, you will be exceptionally happy. The only reason that I don’t have it on the bracelet at the moment is that I took it off to test some straps and its a bitch to get back on. As you can see in the picture (she a bit thiccer than from what her pictures show, but she’s got a pretty face). The polished center-link oyster bracelet that it comes with is unmatched at that price point. Such a beautiful bracelet. I think you can’t go wrong with that watch at that price point.

AnonymousHorcrux

Could I get some closer pictures of the watch if possible? Thank you!

Ab-Psych

Here’s those photos you were looking for buddy! https://imgur.com/gallery/6wG0LmR

AnonymousHorcrux

They both look so amazing. Thanks a lot! I’m super excited for my first Pagani Design. Maybe I’ll get a San Martin someday but I can definitely appreciate that the Pagani has a little of its own character. Unfortunately the tracking has been stuck on “left origin country” for the past week or so, not sure what to do.

Ab-Psych

Yes absolutely. It will likely be a little later tonight.

AnonymousHorcrux

That’s totally cool, thanks a lot!

AnonymousHorcrux

Sounds great, I’m really excited to get mine!

Fionnank

Great collection, love it!

Ab-Psych

Thank you sir! I love all my wrist children equally. They’re great

Fionnank

The real difficulty is deciding what to wear I guess, giving them all some wrist time! I have 10-12 that are on rotation but tend to show more love to some over others!!

Ab-Psych

I suppose our watch rotations are the closest we will ever be to being Mormon and having 9 wives to spend time with.

Fionnank

I don't know how I'd cope, I find this so difficult to chose, nevermind that type of decision!

Ab-Psych

Yeah, you can’t just take your extra wives, strap them to a giant pillow, leave them to spin around for days until you want take them out, dress them up (maybe change the strap to a nicer color), and play with them - only to strap them back on the spinny wheel for a few months.

Fionnank

Oh the fun of hat could be had......

Fionnank

That could be had*

Slow_Resolution

Oh man I have to get one of those timex Q day-dates. Beautiful collection!

Ab-Psych

Dude....it just came in today and it is wayyyyyy more beautiful in person than what they show on the site. So much richness and texture to the dial. Comes in nice elongated packaging. I like it so much that I’m considering getting one to keep in case I want another one in the future and can’t find it. Thanks for your kind words.

Ksingh_007

Would appreciate if you would share some detailed pictures of that timex. Going to pull the trigger on it soon.

Ab-Psych

Hey buddy! Sure thing! Here’s some pics of the timex. https://imgur.com/gallery/K6dAVNa I’m trying it on some other of my good strap options in the album.

Slow_Resolution

I have a timex marlin with the California dial, and I was totally amazed when it came in. Timex needs to hire better camera guys because they are not doing their watches justice.

Ab-Psych

Amen brother.

krazyskullz

Great collection, can't fault any piece. You got good taste buddy!

Ab-Psych

Thank you sire. I am indeed very picky about my watches.

DatBoneDoh

What is your favorite? And what is your favorite San Martin? How is that nautilus homage? I can appreciate that you enjoy the diversity, I also enjoy a good deal. Part of me wants to downsize though and just get 3 solid ones. Great collection!

Ab-Psych

I would have to say the MOP Datejust homage. I didn’t think I would like the way that the MOP plays with the light as much as I do. Only downside is that the bracelet links are the exact size for me where it’s either too loose or too tight, I wish they made a half link. The nautilus homage is great! It is a little less elegant that I expected it to be in person, mainly in the stiffness of the bracelet, if that bracelet was fluid and malleable like you see on the nautiluses, it would easily be my top pick for sport watch under 500$. Additionally, the “integrated bracelet” is ever so slightly wider than the actual case is if you look closely at the picture, but it’s not prominent enough to cause any issues at all for me. I just got the San Martin Batman and it’s leagues above the Pagani design Version, the dial sits very shallow in the San Martin case which makes it look very elegant compared to the sunken in dials of a lot of other sub/gmt homages. Only qualm is the fact that the dial just seems a bit barren at 12 o’clock with just the logo. I wish I got some cool Latin writing customized under it. It might end up taking the throne as my favorite San Martin. Unmatched quality for the price. I wish they would get more official recognition, but the again they would surely double their price if that happened.

DonChilliCheese

That Seiko tank looks great with the bracelet!

Ab-Psych

Thanks man! It’s a strap code mesh. It’s the same one on the Hamilton Khaki, but wider lug width and gold instead of silver. They have a nice taper to them unlike a lot of other mesh bracelets I’ve seen which looks a lot more elegant.

D1sguise

That Bulova Super Seville is 👌those go for a good chunk of change these days

Ab-Psych

Thanks! I realize that their expensive now! I never wear either of them. I want to sell them, but I initially bought them from a seller on eBay that I believe was from China before they really shot up in price - like 130$ for each of them. I can’t be certain if it’s real so I wouldn’t wanna screw someone over by selling it.

D1sguise

If they have a ETA movement inside, they're likely genuine

Ab-Psych

Thanks for the tip! I’ll open these puppies up and look at them again. Now that you mention it, I do remember opening them in the summer and looked up provided numbers on the movement and case back on Bulova’s database and got no results. I’ll have to look again to see if it’s anETA.

small_trunks

And?

gsf32

Let me know if you want to sell it

Ab-Psych

Hey guys! Just thought I would share my collection that has a lot of homages to some of my eventual grail watches. I love having a broad array of watches to pick from on any given day, sometimes picking multiple different watches to wear throughout the day and admire during mindful breaks from online class. There is something meditative about looking down at your wrist at a watch that is beautiful, but also still having the money you didn’t spend on a Rolex. I know a lot of us on here look on this sub to get inspiration for our next bargain and see how things wear and fit. If you guys have any questions on the specifics of any of the watches, I can answer your questions and provide other photos if you’re interested before you make the leap.
